Vee grins playfully, laughing at the idea of pawning him off. "Of course, of course. I'll be helping set up first, but I'll be as attentive as I can. Deal?" She leaves little time to answer before another thought occurs. "Although, if you show up too early they might put you to work..."
He steps into her space, and she doesn't move away. If anything, her shoulders move up for a moment, then relax even more than before when he stays. She looks very comfortable with him there. His words have her nodding, though it's clear the idea is still sinking in as he continues. Part of her, for a moment so small even a speedster could have missed it, looks grief-stricken. Maybe that is why she reacts so carefully - it's too easy to slip.
But it's gone as quickly as it came, and she's smiling at his description of his job as 'The Guy.' "The Guy. Like, from Spy Kids," she teases. "My dad's the same way. Does odd jobs, anything that needs doing. Always worked with his hands, got one of those brains that can figure things out just by looking at them."
Her nose wrinkles. Kee wasn't as good, but there were a million names that ended with ee sounds, so she knew they'd be here a while. And that was a damn question. "Well, Warby..." she starts, using the bit to stall a moment. "Pretty similar to what I'm doing now, honestly. I always wanted to make a difference, and make the world better for the people around me. Not just the big stuff. The small changes that make someone's day to day better." She looks hopeful about this concept, but a bit of darker frustration crosses her features. "I want what I do to be enough. So it sticks." Her expression clears again.
Vee stops and coughs, looking up at him. "We're here."

Wally shakes his head with a grin, "Alright, alright. I've never been afraid to get my hands dirty for a pretty lady. I'm pretty handy with my hands, so I'm sure I'll fit right in."
He tries to ignore the little dash of hope in his chest when she doesn't move away from him, ducking his head to glance at the ground for a moment. It has been so long since he's flirted with someone, but he's confident he's doing it right. If anything else, he could tell this to Des later and she can tell him all the places he fucked up.
"Spy Kids," he echoes back to her, turning to glance at her from the corner of his eye. It doesn't sound like a question and he drops it as she talks about her dad. Briefly, he thinks about the old saying that girls married their dads and then he immediately throws the whole idea away. He's not going down that road again.
He can't.
Wally's mouth is open to reply to what oddly feels like a mission statement when she stops and coughs. His eyes lift to the sign of the burger place as she announces that they've arrived. Perfectly humanly quick, Wally walks around Vee and pulls the door open for her.
"Yeah, I never would have found this place without you. It smells absolutely divine. Remember, I'm paying for lunch, Ms. Savior." He winks at her, waiting for her to walk in ahead of him.

Vee wrinkles her nose a little. "This pretty lady isn't gonna make a cute, hopelessly lost gentleman work. But if my boss spots you I don't know if you'd be able to escape," she explains, smiling in spite of the words, her respect for them clear in her tone. "She's a force of nature."
They get to their destination before he can reply to her spouted answer, and she finds herself a little disappointed when his mouth closes and she doesn't get to hear his thoughts on it. Still... felt like there was time for that. Something about this guy felt like he wanted to take his time, and it made her want to take hers. He pulls the door open, and she grins.
"It's a date," she agrees, that little crinkle at the top of her nose and around her eyes forming with a smile. She waits to see if he agrees before stepping inside. "I'll just have to get you next time."

"I like the sound of that," Wally says easily, replying to the date comment. He kicks his heel against the door, propping it open and tucking his hands into his jeans. It seems almost second nature, like a learned habit to limit how much he touches door handles and the like. "Already planning out a second date? I must be better at this than I thought."
Wally chuckles a bit to himself, knowing very well that he's actually quite good at flirting and charming people. It is one of his finer qualities.
The inside of the shop has an almost New Yorker vibe to it with Yankee's posters and photography of that city on the walls. Wally steps around Vee and leads the way to a little booth about halfway into the building. He sits so that he's facing the entrance and smiles at her.
"So, what's the life story, See? You said you moved here. Where ya from," he asks even as he lifts the menu to glance at it. "I'm open to any of your questions as well."

Vee notes with interest how he interacts with the door - then laughs amicably at the second date comment, nearly a giggle. "Yeah, well. Keep playing your cards right, smooth operator," she teased, knowing by now he was fully aware of what he was doing. She rolled back through some of his earlier comments and couldn't help but grin to herself. She'd played it somewhat safe until he got obvious enough, but he'd given off a feeling. While they're up front, she nods to a worker and quickly pins a flyer to what barely qualifies as an empty space on a corkboard on the front entrance wall housing a lot of local events.
She's quick, and easily follows Wally, scanning the restaurant for anyone she knew besides a few employees. Absentmindedly, she adjusts a thin silver chain bracelet then tugs at the black nike band on her left wrist. She follows him to sit and flicks at a bit of chipped polish that won't come off, then looks up at Wally with a surprised smile and a questioning eyebrows. She reaches for the menu even as she decides in her mind what she's most likely getting, and holds it at a low angle in front of her but looks at him instead of it.
"Straight to life story, huh? It's a long one," she says, that same crinkling smile an easy tell that she still feels comfortable. She doesn't get any inkling of ill will from Wally - he's one of those refreshingly genuine people that make up the population she may enjoy talking with the most. It's how she tries to be. "I'm from Portland originally - big switch-up coming to Seattle, I know," she answers, sarcastically poking fun at herself. She sets down the menu and folds her hands on top of it, elbows comfortable up on the table top. "I moved a lot when I was little, actually, so I like having roots, y'know?. Always dreamed of being a regular someplace," she grins happily, indicating she made that happen for herself. "And I've got a great support network here. When I moved out here I really didn't expect to be able to make a life for myself - I wasn't exactly coming from much of one."
She shrugs, downplaying. It's an out, for either of them if he wants it. Something about her demeanor suggests she doesn't mind if he pursues that line of the story or leaves it. "The city's been kind to me. Lotta good people here."
She toys with her wristband again, a curious light to her eyes now. "What about you? Where are you from, Wally?"

Wally keeps his eyes on Vee as she speaks, expression open and calm. He doesn't need to read the menu, having come to Seatle knowing exactly what he wanted to order. He dips his head once in a show that he either understood or that he heard her.
"Sometimes, all a person needs is a change like that to get on track. Getting away from everything you know can help you reset to square one without a crisis." He shifts, resting on his elbow on the tabletop and glancing around the restaurant again.
"I'm from around," he answers with a secretive little grin, more mischievous than malicious. "I wander around too much to say my roots are in any one place. There's too much of the world to see for me to want to stay in one place for long. I like the freedom of just knowing I can get up and go when I want to."
"I know that's the opposite of what you want with your roots and I think it's really good that you want someplace to call your own. People come in two flavors when it comes to that and neither is wrong." Those green eyes flicker over to her. "There is also something good in taking the time to see the world around you. To really embrace it. People live their lives, but when was the last time you sat down and listened to the world around you?"
"When was the last time you just sat and watched the sunset or the water lap at the coast?" Wally says this and shakes his head a little, sitting back up. "I make it a point to enjoy as much as I can."
