Johnny has the ability to mentally control ambient heat energy, and to transform his body, either in its entirety or parts of it, into a plasma-like state. This plasma state means that his body is not solid matter, and most solid objects will simply pass right through him. When exposed to oxygen, such as the atmosphere of Earth, this plasma ignites into a continuous flame until Johnny mentally puts it out or it is forcibly extinguished. He can use this flame as a concussive blast of heat, and it grants him immunity to other forms of fire and high temperatures in that form. Johnny can maintain this form for just under 24 hours.
Fire Manipulation and Generation
Johnny can shape flames from his body in a variety of ways. They require concentration to maintain, and only last for around three minutes unless he adds more flames to the creation. Usually these take the forms of words or symbols, images that he can create in the sky or as traps and enclosures to hamper enemies.
Flight
His form allows him to fly through the air at up to 140kph, and he can maneuver himself deftly with a jet-like flame from his feet.
Heat Manipulation
Johnny can both raise and lower the temperature of objects that he touches, and even the air surrounding him, when he is in his normal form. He can also absorb heat into his body, including naked flames. This ability also gives him an innate resistance to cold temperatures, as he can warm up his clothes and the air around him.
Superhuman Durability
In his plasma form, Johnny is difficult to touch with solid objects, but even in his human form he can take more of a beating than an average man could. Exposure to the cosmic storm has pushed his body beyond the average human limits, and he has the durability of a bodybuilder and stamina of a top athlete.
Nova Form
The hottest plasma that Johnny can achieve is what he calls his "Nova Form". In this form, he can reach temperatures of thousands of degrees, but can only maintain it for a few minutes until he is completely depleted of energy and can't even go into his plasma form without recouperation. He can also release all of his "Nova" energy in one concentrated blast, enough to melt most objects in a radius of a mile miles around him, but with serious consequences to his own form if not used with care.
Expert Mechanic
Johnny is a wizard when it comes to fixing cars and vehicles, having tinkered with them since his teenage years. There isn't much that he can't do with a wrench and a screwdriver when it comes to cars. He is known for his skills, especially since showing his worth with the craft he helped build that took him and the Fantastic Four into space and survived falling back to Earth.

Weapons/Items
The Torch Suit
Gifted to him by Reed Richards after the Fantastic Four parted ways, it is a specially made suit which can withstand the incredible temperatures that Johnny can reach. It is flexible, lightweight and, above all, incredibly stylish, showing off Johnny's sense of individuality that he now follows after joining the Justice League.
Appearance
Physical Appearance
Johnny wasn't voted "The Most Attractive Superhero of All Time" three years in a row for nothing. He is an incredibly handsome man who has only refined with age, with a muscular form, chiselled features and immaculate blonde hair. Johnny has vivid steel-blue eyes, cool and intriguing, and a face that can convey a plethora of expressions while always seeming to display a few. Of course, Johnny purposefully keeps his appearance in check, maintaining strict routines to keep his handsome face and toned physique looking staggeringly good.
Clothing and Armor
Johnny is a fashion maestro, and wears the best if what is currently out there. A few deals with brands and designers means that he is always supplied with high-end designer clothing for free, as long as he is seen in public wearing it. Johnny hasn't bought his own clothes in a long time, and definitely prefers other people deciding what he will wear next.

General Personality
Johnny is a charismatic and enigmatic man of good humour and taste. He talks his mind, especially if the subject is about him, and can easily slide into any conversation with little effort. Johnny has an ego, but also knows how to let people talk, as good a listener as he is a talker. Most people find him extremely easy to talk to, and even if they've been talking about Johnny himself they can walk away feeling like they've blhad a truly fulfilling conversation.
Johnny still has a youthful, boyish streak to him. His childish nature was never really left behind, instead put on a leash to be controlled when needed. He still loves all of the things he did as a kid; space, superheroes, fast cars and bikes. Now he enjoys them with adult refinement instead. There are parts that are locked firmly away from his younger days. He no longer parties, though he enjoys the occasional drink, and he no longer chases girls... much. Okay, Johnny is a massive flirt, and loves to chat up women, but rarely now does he follow through, not since helping to raise Sue's kids and gaining some perspective on life.
Speaking of, Johnny loves children. Adores them. He could spend hours talking to the younger generation, laughing and messing around. A lot of his work that he does with kids is off his own back, and he won't hesitate to assist in any make-a-wish campaigns or to help a children's charity raise money. He even started an apprentiship school for aspiring engineers, and finds it truly invigorating to help the next generation flourish. Aside from that, Johnny's other true love is his family. He has a lot of time for his dad, for Sue and for her kids, as well as for his old ally, Ben Grimm. For them, Johnny would do anything, even laying down his life.
Johnny is a strong-willed and fearless man, which gives him a well-known tenacity as a Superhero. Human Torch is not known to back down from a fight or shy away when help is needed. He approaches every situation with such a calm, cool and collected attitude that he is well-liked in the cape community, apart from those who think he should take the job more seriously. Yet those who say so don't know him all that well, as he takes on every task with his full capabilities, witty comeback or not. Johnny does have a hot-headed and rash streak to him at times, especially if there is someone close to him involved. Sometimes, his calm demeanour goes out the window, and he can act on impulse if the time calls for it.

Ryan Gosling
Anything Else
Johnny's vintage Harley Davidson is his pride and joy. He maintains it like it was brand new, and when he isn't flying into a situation as Human Torch, you can bet he is rocking up on his wheels.
Character's History
Siblings
Susan Victoria Storm
Johnny has the upmost love and respect for his big sister, Sue. She is, in his eyes, most of the reason he didn't become a deadbeat loser in his younger years, and her support and belief in him made Johnny the man he is today.
Mother
Mary Storm
Mary Storm
Johnny remembers his mother with a vivid fondness. She was kind and loving, and they shared a bond over their love of space and the unknown. Her death was a blow to the young Johnny, but it made him realise how much he cared for his family, and helped him mature when he and Sue looked after their father after the fact.
Father
Franklin Storm
Franklin Storm
Johnny is extremely close to his father. They share a love of sports, fast cars and motorbikes, and the two of them can talk for hours about Formula One racing or about Johnny's motorbike. Johnny and Franklin often share stories about the adventures over a few beers, and while there is not much emotional conversation, they both know they can rely on the other in times of dire need.
Other Family
Franklin Storm-Richards (Nephew)
Franklin Storm-Richards (Nephew)
Valeria Storm-Richards (Niece)
Uncle Johnny became a second father to Sue's kids. He raised them with all the love and attention that they desvered, helped them come to terms with their powers and continued to be a point of trust for them for anything they wanted or needed to talk about in confidence. The cool Uncle title doesn't even give justice to the time and effort that Johnny has put into those kids.
Ben Grimm
While they began as enemies of sorts, butting heads and at each other's throats a lot, Ben and Johnny became more than firm friends in their time in the Fantastic Four. Even now, years after the break-up, Ben is still Johnny's second port of call if he needs someone to talk to, after Sue. Ben became a second father to Johnny, someone he always knew he could rely on and look up to.
Reed Richards
The chaotic and tumultuous relationship of Reed and Sue caused a rift for Johnny as well. He stuck with the man for loyalty after Sue left, but realised that Reed had more on his mind beyond friendship and family. Johnny kept it to himself, but lost a lot of respect for his old companion when Doom leaked his true nature, and since then has always sided with Sue. He rarely talks to Reed anymore, and Reed barely talks to him.
History
Early life
The birth of Johnny Storm, as told by Johnny Storm, has been told in a hundred different ways, each one grander than the last. World changing, fate defying events that surrounded it have been used, on the kind of night where lightning crackles across the sky, and the gods themselves welcome in a new babe to the world.
The birth of Johnny Storm as told by other people, namely his older sister Sue, are far less exciting.
Whichever you believe, or whichever you are told, Jonathan Lowell Spencer Storm was born to Franklin and Mary Storm, prolific space engineers who had a hundred and one exciting stories to tell their kids as they grew up. Perhaps it is where he got his own flare for grandiose tales of his exploits, but Johnny certainly followed in the charismatic footsteps of his father.
While Sue excelled in school, Johnny was more interested in causing trouble and chasing skirts. His father did help steer him in the right direction, however, as he bought Johnny his first ever motorbike, a toolkit and a handbook on what to do. Johnny took to the bike with more gusto than he had taken to anything before that. Franklin would walk in on him at 3am, taking the thing apart and putting it back together just to prove he could. Academia might not have held his attention, but engineering lodged itself in a vacant spot in Johnny's brain and firmly made a home there.
While he was growing up, as many boys and girls of his age, Johnny has a brief obsession with superheroes. They were always on the news, so how couldn't a pre-pubescent boy look at people with incredible powers clashing against dangerous monsters and evil villains? Johnny would watch heroes like Red Tornado, Wildcat and (his personal, secret favourite) Wonder Woman fight criminals and baddies. No matter what their odds were, they always came out on top with a smile on their face for either safe civilians, or directly to the camera, as if saying "nobody has to fear, we're on the case!" He even owned a Wonder Woman costume for a while, not that he ever showed anyone or wore it in public. For a long time, Johnny was obsessed with the world of superheroes, and wanted to be the kind of person who could save a hundred civilians, stop a bad guy and still be able to smile for the camera.
When he was barely a teenager, Johnny and Sue's mother died. It was sudden and violent, a car crash involving both Franklin and Mary. His father couldn't get their mother to the hospital in time, and she died with him then and there. It would have torn Franklin apart, but Johnny and Sue weren't about to sit by and lose both of their parents. They looked after their dad as best the two of them could. Johnny dragged him to the garage to help work on his bike, or snuck beers when Sue wasn't looking to watch the racing with him. It helped Franklin to see there was more to life than grief, that his children still had their futures ahead of them. Sue and Johnny grieved their mother in their own way, on their own time, not letting Franklin see how much it affected both of them. At the time, what was important was that he kept on living, and didn't give into despair.
With the memory of his mother's loss fresh in his mind, Johnny decided to focus on his love of engineering. He effectively took a u-turn in school, ditched the bad crowd and did everything he could to get the grades he needed to get into a decent college for engineers. With the help of Sue, he managed to just scrape enough good grades to graduate, and Franklin helped him with contacts at Luthor University to get him a place on the engineering school there. The two of them wanted to give Johnny the push he needed to follow his dreams and live his life.
College Boy
Johnny, hardly surprisingly, took to the college life like a pig takes to mud, except with far more charisma and plenty more wild actions. He was a party boy through and through, coasting on a natural aptitude for his skills and not much else. However, Johnny's grades constantly scraped through, and his lecturers all but gave up on him not showing up to lectures hungover or wearing someone else's clothes. Still, he was top of his class for practical lessons, and this was his saving grace.
Johnny finished Luthor University with an average grade, but even the name of Storm wasn't able to propell him into the big leagues. So he was reduced to working for smaller technology companies, an engineer bored out of his brains. He spent years bouncing around different businesses, never fulfilled, partying and chasing girls and generally not growing up in the slightest.
It wasn't until he read that Sue and her partner Reed Richards were setting their sights on a manned flight into space that Johnny knew his luck had changed. His big sister would give him a top spot on her project, and Johnny would be thrust into the upper crust of his profession. Wealth, fame, progression, women; it was all laid out for him. Working on a project dedicated to their mom as well was the icing on the cake. It would mean a lot to them both.
So it surprised him when, arms crossed and frowning, Sue turned him down.
"You've been coasting your entire life. Drinking and wasting your time on girls and parties when you could have been something great. Johnny, your grades disappointed not just me, but your dad too. He put his name on the line for you, got you into that college, and you threw it back in his face. So, no. You don't get to just walk into this one. You have to earn it."
It shook Johnny's world to hear it. Sue was right, and in that moment he felt an entire lifetime of guilt. He had been riding off of coat-tails until now, first his parents, then his dad, and now Sue. Johnny felt ashamed, but begged Sue to give him a chance. He promised to turn his life around, to leave the party-boy lifestyle behind him if she would let him do it. Johnny realised he didn't even want the prestige that came with it, or the potential career, the fame, the money, women, none of it. He wanted to do something that meant something, for his mom, his dad, and for Sue.
The Final Frontier
Johnny was true to his word. Since Sue put him on the team, alongside Ben Grimm and Reed Richards, he didn't party once. Sure, he flirted and had the occasional beer or two during dates, but Sue's words had changed Johnny from a brainless party boy jock into a man who wanted to prove himself. His engineering skills helped Sue and Reed progress quickly as he put his expertise to the test, pushing himself far beyond what he had tried to do before.
It was Reed that suggested they launch sooner than planned, and Johnny had some doubts about if their craft was ready, especially after learning that there was a cosmic storm that could turn the controls and systems haywire. Eventually he relented with the others, his sense of adventure overtaking his sense of safety. The launch went perfectly, and Johnny was able to see his work in action. He felt pride, a wave of gratefulness to his sister for believing in him, love for his father who taught him these skills and for his mother, who instilled in him this sense of adventure.
However the celebrations were short lived. The cosmic storm was something far worse than they had predicted, and the craft was flung back to Earth.
Somehow, the four of them survived the crash, but they were never the same. They had been transformed into something new, humans with superhuman abilities and powers. Johnny couldn't help but feel excitement at his own new body. While the others came to grips with theirs, especially the unfortunate Ben Grimm, Johnny's only brought him excitement.
The Fantastic Four
The survival and status of the unfortunate astronauts made them sensations overnight, which Johnny couldn't help but revel in. Dubbed "The Fantastic Four" by the media, they all reacted differently to their new life. Johnny was enamoured by the fame and popularity, but also found himself reliving his childhood dreams of being a true Superhero.
The government tried to cover them up, and the Fantastic Four were at first utilised as spies, agents that could handle tasks beyond the scope of other government bodies. However Johnny found it hard to stay out of the limelight. Even as he was fighting the Mole people that lived beneath the surface of the Earth, he was secretly leaking stories to the press to get his, and the others, faces out there. It was impossible not to want the limelight that came with it. He could only think of the superheroes of his youth, and how much he wanted to be like them.
Sure enough, there was no stopping the surge of popularity that they found. Sue and Reed used their wealth and connections to set them up with a proper hideout, with Johnny and Ben joining them. The Fantastic Four was already well-known, and their identities public. Now they accepted it, embraced it, nobody more than Johnny. He lived for the fame and the stardom, and while the others struggled to balance the two lifestyles, he combined them into one, taking on the Human Torch like an actor plays a part.
Family
Sue and Reed married. The wedding was a small one, but the coverage was global. Johnny found his mark, appearing on a few talk shows to spread the juicy details. The others had long since stopped trying to quell his hunger for the press, as it was nigh impossible. He still worked hard, and kept his promises to Sue, even though he received a dozen invitations a night to party hard. Johnny wouldn't let his sister, mom or dad down anymore.
Of course, good times can't last forever. Sue and Reed's relationship deteriorated after the birth of their first kid (Uncle Johnny was his new nickname, and he loved it) as Reed began to become obsessed with his work. Sue was becoming agitated with the direction he was taking the Fantastic Four, and she spoke to Johnny at length about it. With the help of Ben, he tried to speak to Reed and guide him back into a more grounded place, but even the two of them had little effect on Mr. Fantastic and his new colleagues in science that he had started working with. While Ben and Johnny took on more and more of the Fantastic Four's missions, Reed locked himself away to focus on ground-breaking scientific experimentation, and Sue struggled on with her family alone.
So when Johnny and Ben returned one mission to find Sue had left the Fantastic Four, there was little surprise.
The End of the Beginning
The Fantastic Four limped on as a threesome. Johnny still loved the limelight, but it was clear they weren't the same. Reed was too withdrawn, Ben was too much like Ben, and there wasn't the balancing figure of his sister to keep them in check. Johnny found himself getting more and more erratic, overwhelmed and prone to giving into temptation. He found himself shouldering most of the fame, the spotlight, and was essentially the only active face of the group. He had stayed for Reed and Ben's sake, but the lifestyle was beginning to overwhelm him.
It was the moment he realised he was having a midlife crisis. Johnny had found himself at a government gathering on behalf of Reed, had drank too much, said some boyish insults to a senator and gone drinking with the president's niece. He woke up a day later, several states away from the party's location, remembering little but wearing an enourmous sense of shame and someone else's underwear. What had happened to him? He had made a promise to his sister, but now Johnny wasn't even there for her. The Fantastic Four had broken him.
So he handed in his notice. A silly thing to do, for a Superhero, but Johnny told Reed and Ben he had a duty to his sister. Reed understood, and gifted him his Torch Suit, and gave him enough money to get started with a new life. Johnny bought an old motorbike, just like the one Franklin had bought him all those years ago, and left the Baxter Building behind him in the dust.
Family, Reunited
Sue's face when she opened the door to Johnny is one he would never forget. They embraced, cried and laughed in each other's arms. Johnny told Sue that he had made the choice he thought he had to make, to help Ben try and look after Reed, but realised that it had dragged him away from what truly mattered. Family. His sister, who had been there for him all these years.
Uncle Johnny joined the family, staying with Sue and the kids for a while until he found his own place not far from them. The kids were coming into their own with their powers, and Johnny was there with his sister to help them develop and grow into them. Johnny helped Sue in raising them as decent kids, and he became something of a father figure to them both.

Johnny set up his own garage for the local area, and lay low out of the spotlight for a few years, getting to the bottom of who Johnny Storm really was. He set up an apprenticeship scheme for local kids, growing the business from something small into a grander, more selfless project.
Human Torch, Rebirth
Eventually, Johnny found his feet. It was when Victor Von Doom revealed, live on television, what Reed Richards really was focusing his scientific research on, that Johnny knew he had to find his own path to follow. So he suited up, and went to work. Human Torch came back onto the scene after nearly half a decade of silence, as strong and intense as before. Johnny went in hard, becoming a sensation once again overnight. He was approached by the Justice League soon after, who knew of his previous actions with the Fantastic Four and saw the potential he could have with the group. Obviously, he accepted.
Johnny continues to be a Superhero who takes the publicity in his stride, though he is rather more tempered than in his youth, and focuses more on giving rousing talks to the next generation than he does talking about himself. He is forging ahead in his own way, leaving the remnants of the Fantastic Four behind him. With his family stronger than ever, Uncle Johnny is moving towards making the world a better place for his sister's kids, and everyone else that needs him.

Role Play Sample
Late Night! With Jimmy Olsen. S013E144, "Johnny Storm".
Johnny grinned as Jimmy cracked an opening one-liner, hearing the audience laughter and adoration wash over him. It felt like a healing spring, cleansing him of the negative feelings that had been clinging to him since the Fantastic Four split.
"Well, Johnny, let me be the first to say how pleased I am to see you back on the scene. It's been, what, eight years since your old team broke up? I think the last thing I imagined to hear on the news was a good old fashioned... oh, why don't you do us the pleasure?"
Johnny waved a hand in faux embarrassment as the audience chanted his famous catchphrase.
"Ah, Jimmy, for you? Only the safety officer told me 'no open flames', so none of the fireworks I'm afraid! Okay, let's see if I've forgotten... Flame on!"
Johnny lifted a fist, engulfing it in flame for a few seconds. Gasps, cheers, applause. He sat back in his chair, laughing.
"So you're a member of the Justice League now. I guess that means we can say goodbye to any Fantastic Four reunion?"
At this, Johnny paused. He frowned, momentarily removed from the stage, ears deaf to the audience. A genuine reaction to raw feelings. Guilt, pain and loss. A team he had loved as a family, shattered and broken. Of course, he was still close to Sue, and he made sure to call old Ben once a month, but... Reed had vanished into his work. Johnny snapped out of it after a moment, looking up at Jimmy and shrugging.
"You know what they say, Jimmy. For Superheroes... anything is possible. My lips are sealed... but watch this space. For now, I'm quite happy fighting alongside Wonder Woman and Superman in the Justice League. It's like a dream come true! Let me tell you about our first mission..."
The limelight. The laughter, the adoration of the people he saved and the people who watched him. Civilians who cried in his arms, fans who screamed his name in the streets. Johnny was where he belonged.
