"Dames can be very abrasive," Barbara warns him. She feels like she is selling it short, but Master Splinter is sure to understand just because of the complicated picture she has been painting about her little brother. "I have nothing but faith in you, as well as him," she says, perhaps mostly for her benefit.
"It was... a transition. For the both of them," Barbara says, trying to be as diplomatic as she can about it, but her sad eyes betray a lot of the story. "He is living with me, for the time being," she says meaningfully. It is enough to understand that things aren't going well. Bruce is so busy, and Damian so... isolating. It is a vicious cycle, the two feeding into each other. It is why she demands meals with Dames, for some kind of structure in his life.
"I'll do everything I can to help, Master Splinter. I've got a lot of ways of getting intel," Barbara says, smirking for the briefest of moments. It fades, her eyebrows knitting together. "If I can let go of some of my worry... then you can, too. I'll help carry it," she says. "That's the point of all of this, isn't it? Being a safety net? Helping each other out?"

"Oh yes, I can well imagine," said Master Splinter with a faint smile; he had experience with abrasiveness from Raphael, and the boys had gotten into more than a few spats over the years. It might not be entirely the same, but it was close enough that he could imagine. "It will work out, you'll see."
He nodded again, attentively listening to Barbara.
"Sometimes, the first step in going forward is to take one step back," he said softly, "But, as much as it is a transition for both, put the blamed how things are at the feet of Mr Wayne. It sounds like he did not know about the boy, but his actions after finding out are more damning. If the relationship is to improve, it will have to be the responsibility of Bruce, not Damian." His brow furrowed slightly; it was not a child's task to be responsible; such was the duty of the adults and elders. "It sounds like Mr Wayne should have a wake-up call."
She did have the right idea. The purpose of this group was to assist each other in keeping the world safe.
"You are right," he agreed, "And I appreciate it greatly."

Though they had not conversed this candidly and intimately before, Babs really feels like she has fostered something lasting with Master Splinter. She had been closer with his boys, they remind her of her family after all.
Barbara had been careful to say nothing about Batman or Waynes, but she exhales a bit of relief. He knows enough to see how complicated this is. "That is what I fear... It is on a man who never really could be a father. I was very lucky to have my dad, if I didn't... I think I would be a lot more like the others," she says, thinking on how spiteful Dick and Jay could be. If Bruce got his act together for Damian... it would help him as much as it would hurt them. "I have tried... trust me," Barbara murmurs. How many times had she advocated for the rest of the Bats over the years? Bruce had gotten better, sure, but in the end he was still just a C+ parent.
Looking back, she knows she was given a role she should not have been given as a child: a parent. Only Alfred was there for it all, and damn she would have drowned without him.
"One team, one fight, right?" Barbara says brightly. She always seems to bounce back. "I gotta get back to it. Thanks for... well, thanks for everything. Chat later?" she asks, standing.
Barbara smiles a little more earnestly, finding the weight a little lighter.
