"Yes, that works too," Aladdin said with a pearly laugh, "I suppose my family are just very demanding, or at least whenever they need to talk to each other. It would be fine if you used the pearl and spoke my name in some form. Magic like this likes the old traditions, but I'm not sure why it works better, but here we are."
"I'm rarely at home and rarely have guests, but it's a safe place, and few can get in without my invitation. One of the few perks I have with this existence of being a wish master." Aladdin explained with a slight smile. "I guess you'll have to find out for yourself at some point."
The djinn nodded.
"Gumbo sounds lovely," she said. "It's been a while since I've had a good gumbo, and I won't say no to a hot meal. Lead the way, Felicia."

" Well, then, Aladdin. Let us indulge in the old tradition of sharing a meal." Felicia winks back at them before letting go of their hands and getting a starting run. As she has a thousand times before, she grapples out to the next building and sails out into the night. Curious grey eyes turn back in excitement to see how her new friend plans to keep up. Moonlight catches the silver of her hair even as she moves through the shadows. While not quite a game of chase, Felicia does not give the djinn pause as she goes, both eager to show her new friend to a good meal and to go home. Felicia pauses on the upper roof of her home, looks to ensure her friend is near, and then slides down the ladder to her patio. The fact that she has such a luxury in New York City says so very much about her wealth, but she does not know nor care if it translates to her friend. " Welcome to my little home, Aladdin," she says while pulling open her sliding door. It is silent on its tracks and reveals a very open floor plan on the other side. " Kitchen is this way and the bathroom is off the hall to the right if you need it." As she moves, Cat disconnects the armor plating over her chest and drops it on the couch before unzipping the upper half. She folds the material down and ties it at her waist like an unwanted sweater. This action reveals a simple, gray tank top and an array of freckles and scars along her arms. " It'll take a few minutes while I heat up the food. I hope that is alright," she calls over her shoulder while promptly digging into her fridge.

Aladdin watched Felicia as she started to run, raising an eyebrow with a slight smile. The djinn calmly walked after her to the edge of the building, looking down as she sailed away, catching her looking back, only, when she looked back, the djinn would be gone... only the faint glitter of stars behind, and they too faded quickly.
Just a moment after Felicia landed on her patio, the djinn materialised; one moment, it was empty, and the next, she was there. "What a cosy little place you have here, Felicia," Aladdin said, walking inside after her hostess. Similarly, how she said this could tell she might be used to... something a little more grand. "I love the floorplan; very modern."
Aladdin made herself comfortable in one of the armchairs.
"Don't worry, take your time." the djinn said.

The djinn disappearing in a faint glitter of stars is something she knows she won't forget any time soon. Despite living in New York, Felicia has kept most magical people out of her little life. After all, she is just a thief.
"Thank you, Aladdin," she calls out to her friend with three stacks of brightly colored Tupperware in her arms. The fridge shuts a little hard as she kicks it shut, moving to place her goodies on the counter. "Most things around here are very modern or very, very expensive. It is a give-and-take. That patio out there is my main reason for living here."
Felicia lifts her head to wink at her friend before she reaches above her head for plates. She moves about the kitchen as if she has spent years behind the counter, a movement and flow to her motions.
"When was the last time a mortal cooked for you and what was it," she asks as she places a pot on the stovetop. Felicia fills the pot with the leftover Gumbo and leaves it to warm up. "Following that, what was the best thing you've ever had? Do you get to eat mortal food often?"
She stops before she asks another foot question and laughs at herself. "I guess you can tell I'm a bit hungry."

Aladdin made herself comfortable, taking a moment to examine the interior more closely. Times had changed, and the world had a different view of what was expensive. "Yes, it is very nice." She agreed.
"That is a good question; I've been out eating several times, and I like to try new things. But for a mortal to cook for me like you are now? Her name was Lisa Schwemmer, and she was the maid working for Wolfgang and Constanze Mozart. It was during a party, and she had made a nice spread to celebrate one of Mozart's operas, The Marriage of Figaro."
She leaned back in the armchair, folding her hands.
"We were having braised pigeons with chestnuts and almond casserole, but a lot of other food too; Mozart loved food almost as much as practical jokes and music. Soups, games, cheese, wine, chocolate. It was a different time, but not at all different; excess was the name of the game if you had the money." She smiled slightly. "Today, people seem to think Mozart was poor; he had a very comfortable middle-class income."
The djinn furrowed her brow slightly, taking a minute to think about the follow-up question. Best food?
"A difficult question; it all depends on my mood. But, I think I enjoyed a particularly delicious set of small dishes during a visit to Ethiopia. And, yes, food is one of the few things I enjoy, and I like trying new things."

Cat listens as she busies herself about the kitchen, setting the rice to warm.
"I never knew Mozart loved food like that. You only ever really hear about his music and those accomplishments," she says with a little hum of thought, multitasking like a pro. "Kinda makes you wonder what type of stories they'll tell about you after you're gone- If they'll tell stories about you. Some people say you only ever truly die when you are forgotten."
A silicone ladle is inserted into the pot of gumbo, and she stirs it to prevent it from burning. She tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear and grins.
"When I'm not working, I like trying new foods or making something different. While it is in the USA, you can find quite a bit of food from around the world here. You gotta know where to look for it." She glances up over the counter and into the living room. "If you could do anything right now, what would it be?"

"He was so much more," Aladdin chuckled, "I think you would have liked Wolfgang; he was free-spirited, rebellious, cocky, and uncaring of what others thought of him. He had a sharp sense of humour and was known for his playful teasing." She paused before shaking her head. "Well, stories of me, those you can find, I'm mentioned in a few holy texts, not to mention the story of Aladdin."
Aladdin watched Felicia stir the pot; it was starting to smell nice, that was for sure.
"Yes, people today seem to forget that they live here because their ancestors ventured from all corners of the world." She commented with a slight smile. She tilted her head to the side, contemplöating Felicia's question. "Nothing; I feel rather content now. Besides, I can already do most things if I want, which is one of the bonuses of being a cosmic entity. Mortals always need to do things; sometimes, nothing is the best thing you can do. Besides, I've seen the danger of acting on impulses; that was how roughly 50% of the people in Europe died by 1353."

"I'll give you that one. Wolfgang does sound like my kinda guy. There's something about someone who's just a little cocky that's fun, does that makes sense?" She shakes her head, thinking of Peter and remembering fragments of some event or another. Slowly, her memories of him are fading into only the brightest and most important ones. Felicia isn't as sad about that as she may have thought she would be.
"The Black Death," she asks despite being very certain that it is the event Aladdin is referring to. "Were people much the same back then? I'd imagine there are parts of humanity that never change no matter the circumstances around them. Things that tear us apart like pride and hate and things that bring us close like camaraderie and kindness."
Felicia shrugs one shoulder as she checks the temperature of the gumbo. These are all thoughts that she would usually keep to herself. There is something freeing about talking to someone who has no exposure to her, no previously built ideas of who she is.
"How warm do you like your food? Do you handle spice well?" Felicia layers the bottoms of both bowls with the re-heated rice, proud that it is still soft rather than getting hard. "Oh, did you want to eat in here or out on the balcony? It has a great view of the city."

"Oh, I think it makes perfect sense; there is nothing quite so attractive in a person as confidence." She replied with a wink. She could not tell who Felicia was thinking about it, but the Djinn could say it must be someone important, at least from the look she was... drifting off into her thoughts for a few seconds. "I did use to date Hermes for a while; he was always confident and slightly cocky, something of a playful trickster. He never could take anything seriously; life was a big game, and his family were always his most loved victims. He used to hide at my place whenever he was in trouble, such as stealing from his siblings or pulling practical jokes on them. But he always could make me laugh"
Aladdin sighed wistfully, looking to one of the windows before shaking her head. It was no use thinking of Hermes now, that was--
"Ancient history..."
"Yes, that would be the one," Aladdin replied. "Yes, humans are largely the same now, with some small differences. Human nature is as it always has been. Greed is as strong now as it was in the past, and the wishes I grant are mostly shallow and small on the grand scale. Money, mostly. People can be so lacking in imagination."
"Why don't we sit outside? You've been talking about your amazing balcony, so I'm curious about it."

"Hermes?" There is a little grin on her lips as Felicia ladles gumbo into the bowls, remembering the way Tante LeBlanc would hum to herself as she cooked. "Someone who knows how to make you laugh is worth almost any trouble they can put you through in the process. Some of my best stories involve a dork with too many quips."
The gas stove shuts off with a click and Felicia places the bowls, silverware, two cups, and a jug of water on a little wooden serving tray with curling metal handles. It is one of the few things she still has that came from her father's home.
"My amazing balcony has a truly beautiful view. Some days, I can almost convince myself I can see the stars past all the city lights." She grins at Aladdin, leading the way through the living room and back out through the glass sliding doors. Upon stepping out, the sounds of the city become clear again and there is a comfort to be found in the hustle and bustle. A strange, beautiful familiarity. Like the pulse of a nation.
"I think I will have to invite you over whenever I think of a new recipe. I will spoil you rotten with good food, Aladdin."
And she laughs because it is fun and silly to think she could spoil a djinn.
She laughs because she knows she will try.

"The best kind of people usually are," Aladdin replied with a grin. "Trust someone who has been around for a few millennia; people taking themselves too seriously are usually not worth it."
The djinn walked after her hostess onto the balcony, taking a seat and watching as Felicia prepared everything. At her mention of convincing herself that she could see the stars despite the city, Aladdin got a slightly mischievous grin. Now that was something she might be able to do something about, and she did not need the wishes to be a powerful magic user.
"You mean something like this?" She raised a hand, and one of her fingers began to shimmer; the next minute, Felicia looked up at a sky filled with stars; simultaneously, the sounds of the city below vanished, along with the lights. It was not that Aladdin had removed anything; she could most likely cause the power to go out in most of New York, but that would be rude... this was just a local little trick she did, an illusion more than reality.
Aladdin laughed before nodding.
"I look forward to it. Not often have I been spoiled on anything, and I can easily find myself being spoiled with food."

Felicia clocks the mischievousness in her companion's smile almost immediately, eyes drawn to the single, shimmering finger she holds up. Pale strands shift, no longer catching the city's light around them as surprise fills those grey eyes. Above them is a sea of stars, each glowing brightly as if they have been waiting for Felicia to notice them. Genuine awe and cheer trace the lines of her smile, echoed in her little giggle.
"I don't say it often, but I think tonight was my lucky night," she whispers into the newly created silence between them. Again, Aladdin seems to have brought out another piece of Felicia that she often keeps tucked away. Her gaze turns to the djinn as different thoughts pass through her mind and she just smiles a little wider.
"Good, I'll strive to make sure you have something new each time you come around. I treat those close to me well."
