"Sure! No webs, no weapons, keep wounds to a minimum. Gotcha."
Ghost-Spider didn't shift stance, except balancing on her toes like a ballerina. Renegade took on a proper brawl stance as the fight began, waiting for her move. She knew better than to overestimate her strength against opponents. That was how you got stabbed. Not everyone was a lunatic dressed like a vulture or with the power of a rhino. Sometimes, the most dangerous were the most unlikely. Ghost-Spider thought of her friendly race against Batgirl. She had given her a run for her money, and the girl didn't even have powers.
Then she moved. Ghost-Spider seemed to crouch and then slide forward, swinging a leg from one side to the other, aiming to sweep Renegade's legs from under him. She was moving as if it was a dance, all precision and timing, no sense of violence but as if it was choreographed. Ghost-Spider was a born dancer, even if her life had taken her elsewhere. Renegade was about to find out what fighting a Spider was all about.

Damian does not let the odd stance- lack of stance?- distract him. He has heard tales of what Spiders are capable of. It is impossible to move through New York without hearing them. However, he also knows that this is not Spider-Man. This is Ghost-Spider, and he knows far less about her.
There is a tiny, sick little part of him that begs to underestimate Ghost. A voice that sounds too much like Shiva shuts that down instantly. The boy jumps up and back, feet landing on the seat of the chair he had used. He slides back, tipping the chair and kicking it out and across the floor at Ghost in the hopes of tipping her over. Damian is still testing, waiting to see just how dangerous this fight could potentially be for him. Was she very fast? Made of metal? Did her hands ooze acid? There are too many variables.
His success lies in letting her over-extend or trip up.

Ghost-Spider leapt over the chair, spinning in midair and ending crouched, upside down on the ceiling. Perhaps Renedage didn't expect that, but she was used to utilising every plane and direction that she had available.
"Hey! That's an improvised weapon!"
Ghost-Spider sounded more amused than annoyed. She swung herself backwards on her feet, then launched her body into a forward spin, stretching outas she came at Renegade, feet first. A swift kick to the stomach would be on the menu tonightif he didn't react in time.

He tips his head up as she sticks to the ceiling and a little feral smirk slides into place.
"More like a hazard," he is quick to retort with something dangerously close to the border of entertained laughter.
Damian watches her launch towards him and he knows he cannot let this hit land. Neither his stomach nor his shoulders could bear the weight of such a strike. His only options are to dodge or try to redirect her momentum. Is he fast enough?
The only warning she gets is that he hunkers down a little more into his stance. He plans to catch hold of her legs and swing with her movement, turning on his heels to toss her sideways into the legs of the table next to him.

Ghost-Spider had fought many enemies and opponents in her few years as a Spider. Most of them were either street level thugs or supervillains, but there had been a few, like Renegade, who sat somewhere in the middle. Still, it was a shock when he managed to not only avoid the kick, but use her whole momentum against her.
She hit the table with a crash, scattering the first aid kit to the far corners of the room. Ghost-Spider rolled and sprung upright, bouncing on her toes as she did so.
"Oh, I get it, you're a dirty little scrapper. I've fought guys like you before. If that's how you want to play it, fine by me!"
Ghost-Spider danced forward, fluid movements as she closed the distance, fists raised just as Roy had taught her. Sometimes, you had to not act like a Spider. She thrust a few jabs and punches towards Renegade, her speed and strength evident even if she was holding back juuuuuust a teensy bit.

He releases as soon as she hits the table, both a bit surprised and a tinged concerned. That ends as she rolls and springs up like a pale jack-in-the-box. A quick assessment tells him that that had not been a hard enough hit.
This may get rough.
"I doubt you've fought many guys like me, شبح."
Damian doesn't get the chance to keep retorting as she starts in with quick jabs. It takes all his focus to dodge the first one, realizing just how quick she is and he brings his arm up to block the second. Pain spikes up his forearm and Renegade hisses.
"Your style is weird. One minute, you're a dancer. Next, you fight like you were in the military." The words come out in a soft huff as Damiain slides further back, leading Gwen towards the living room area of the flat. He does his best not to let her hit him again while also not over-exerting his new stitches. This is quickly becoming less about who wins and more about figuring out what her weaknesses are. Does she have a temper when pushed? "Who taught you?"

"I doubt you've fought any girls like me, Renegade!"
Ghost-Spider was impressed by the reflexes. She was holding back, but not a huge amount, not like her standard don't-break-their-skull kind of holding back she had to do on your normal criminals. No, Renegade was trained, and had been doing this for a while, despite the fact he looked like he had just finished junior high.
"It's a bit of instinct - a bit of self-taught - a lot of natural rhythm - and a lot of training from my mentor!"
Ghost-Spider followed Damian, peppering him with thrusts and jabs. She was grinning under her mask.
"I'm a lot of things. I've been bitten by a spider, I play the drums in a rock band, I learnt ballet from a professional dancer and I was trained in hand-to-hand combat by a hardcore soldier! I've got rhythm, grace, force, and, uh, spider power all rolled into one!"
Ghost-Spider suddenly crouched, aiming to sweep Renegade's legs from out underneath him.
"The whole package is all Gwen, nobody else!"

Renegade's mind reels, taking in all this new information and his mouth opens to reply in kind. It would be so easy to be completely honest with her, to just let someone- anyone- on the inside. Barbara has Johnny and who knows how many others. Isn't Damian allowed to have someone?
But...is Ghost his someone?
His eyes narrow as she goes in for another kick and he takes a second to breathe. Both his arms ache from blocking punches and he knows he can't afford another one. Why is he trying so hard to avoid and win? This isn't about winning.
Why can't he just have fun?
"Interesting story, but I have you beat, Gwen."
Damian shifts, times it, and leaps forward. He tries to flip over Gwen's crouched form in a completely unneeded and showy move. If he succeeds, his feet hardly make a sound as they land and he turns, spinning on the ball of his foot to swing a kick at her back.
"I was raised by assassins."

Gwen chastised herself when she realised the verbal slip-up. She had become too comfortable in this young Renegade's company, blurting out her actual gosh darn name in the middle of a fight. Some might scold her for being too trustworthy, but the feeling in the pit of her stomach wasn't worry or trepidation. In a way, she felt... relief. Renegade seemed like he could be trusted. Her spider senses hadn't rang at all, and if he meant her true, tangible harm...
There wasn't much time to overthink the point. Renegade leapt over her, in a manner that solidified her thinking that he wasn't an ordinary kid vigilante. She had time to turn slightly, but the kick hit her squarely in the side, sending her sprawling forward and into a wall.
"Gosh-darn-ow-idiot-"
Gwen sprung to her feet, rubbing the part of her head that had left a sizeable dent in the decrepit plaster.
"Well, that has my secret beat, for sure. I knew you were something special, Renegade. Assassins? Pardon my friends, but like, heck yeah, that's so freaking cool!"
Gwen couldn't help but grinning as she raised herself to the balls of her feet, then leapt into the air, springing forward towards him, then striaghtneing out her foot to aim a kick at his head.
"No wonder you're all dark and mysterious!"

Damian is surprised that the kick lands and more surprised when Gwen pulls her head away from the dent she left in the plaster. Any doubt that he had of her durability slips away like water down a drain. In its absence is the thought that she just may be playing with him, testing him in the way he had thought to test her.
Gwen seems to bounce back quickly and her words send a spike of pride through his chest. She thinks he's cool. People had told him all his life he was special, but when he joined the bats, they were quick to correct that. Ghost telling him that he's something places one of the bricks back onto the walls of his pride.
There is a lopsided smile tugging on the corners of his mouth. It is enough that he almost misses the kick she aims for his head and Renegade wonders if he should suggest some tips. As it stands, his mind commands his legs to drop and his arms to raise seconds too late.
He takes the brunt of the attack across his forearms and he tumbles backward, head over heels. The shattered remains of the kitchen table catch the boy, slowing his roll to a stop and his head smacks on the wood. Pain across his shoulders renews and his stitching protests to the abuse.
"Okay, شبح. You win this one," Renegade groans, not bothering to open his eyes at first. It is the truest sign of faith he has given her. Somehow, she keeps earning them. "All those high kicks might not work against fast enough opponents. Try aiming for joints."
As if to demonstrate, one of his hands reaches up to tap the inside of both shoulders and then to his knees. He takes a deep breath and sighs through his nose before saying, "...I'm Damian."

Gwen straightened up after the kick landed, hands on her hips as Renegade rose to his feet and admitted defeat. She grinned beneath her mask, but noted the groaning, the slight look of pain that crossed Renegade's face.
"Joints? Huh. That's a good tip. Usually I'm just able to, like, web my opponents up, or knock them out with a punch, but there are always bigger opponents. Joints. Mmm."
Gwen blinked at the mention of his name. Damian. She slowly raised a hand to her face, and pulled the mask off to reveal her youthful visage beneath, big blue eyes and blonde hair beneath her hood. She cocked her head, grinning.
"Nice to meet you, Damian. Sorry for trying to kick you in the head so much. I got a bit excited, I think!"
She nodded her head towards his wound again, frowning slightly with concern.
"Are your stitches still holding together? I might have pushed them to their limit..."

"My teacher makes sure I hit joints when we fight since I am smaller. It is always important to know how to fight when you have nothing left."
He steps over to where the chair lies, stepping on a leg to encourage it to tip up and into his waiting hand. Once it is rightened, he gingerly sits down and leans back. Damian holds his breath as Gwen removes her mask, something spiking through his chest that is not quite pain—anxiety, maybe.
"Pleasure to meet you too, Gwen." His voice is a little hollow as he swallows. One hand comes up, fingertips brushing the edge of his domino and even digging under it an inch. Gwen could be his person. It would be so easy.
'Unmasking risks the family. It's not just about you. It is about them.'
Renegade shakes away the memory of Red Robin's words, his hand smoothing down his domino. His eyebrows pull together and his mouth downturns. Regret reads so easily on someone who does not know how to hide it.
"I may not be part of their family anymore, but my identity is closely tied to them. I...I am sorry, Gwen. I can't." Damian looks down and lifts his shirt to check on the stitching. The bandage is still neat and clean.
"It's held together really well. You did a fantastic job," his tone tries to shift to joking. "And don't worry about these. My teacher can heal. She uses that as a reason to beat me until I'm broken. A few stitches breaking won't put me down."
He glances up at Gwen from under his curls, "Were you serious about teaming up?"

Gwen held up her hands as Damian struggled with removing his mask. Honestly... she had just taken hers off because she wanted to be comfortable.
"Hey, no presh, dude! I'm all about keeping secret identities secret, even if I can't quite keep my own... you'll keep my real name and face, like, under wraps, right?"
Gwen grinned, secretly anxious about it but with a feeling that she could trust this little ninja. She spun a chair around, one that had also avoided destruction, leaning over the back as she straddled either side. The young superhero frowned as Damian spoke about getting beaten until he was broken.
"Uh, is that a joke, Mr. Assassin? That's kinda hella messed up if not! My teacher used to get me ice cream after chewing me out! I thought it was bad enough to get scolded!"
Gwen laughed nervously, glad when the conversation changed around. She gave him a lopsided smile, head cocked to one side, blue eyes on his own, hidden as they were behind the mask.
"Sure thing, Renegade. I've always wanted a ninja partner. As long as you called me شبح and not Gwen when we're on the job!"

"No one is getting that information out of me," Damian vows and there is a weight to it. He is a keeper of many secret identities. Gwen's will not make the fact a burden.
"Training is something worth taking seriously. My teacher does not beat me for the fun of it. Ours is a dangerous life," he explains with no real passion on either scale. This is just another fact about life. It is not something he can change.
Renegade is happy to let the subject drop, watching Gwen as she smiles. He decides that he likes the color palette of her eyes, hair, and skin. The boy tips his head to match hers, feeling regretful that he will never be able to do a face study.
"That is a promise I can make, شبح. I will see about making more safe houses like this one in the event something happens again."
Renegade leans forward with the smallest smile, offering his hand out to her for a handshake.
"Partners, then."

Gwen took his in return, grinning a cheeky grin as she shook the arm, gingerly and carefully so wouldn't rip out the stitches. "Partners! Don't worry, Renegade, you won't regret it. I'm not gonna, like, beat you up if I don't think you're doing a good job, either."Gwen winked, tucking her hair behind her ears as she leaned back on her chair, clutching the back of it as it tipped slightly away from him. She watched him with a curious eye. "I don't know if you've got a long way to get home, but... there's a mattress in the back room, and a sleeping bag I keep clean. I know what it's like travelling... long distances. In our line of work, we've got to get as much sleep as we can!"Gwen rose to her feet with smooth and effortless grace, bouncing across to his chair. She bent almost in half, face suddenly close to his. In her hand between them, screen facing him, was a phone. "Give me your number, Renegade. We're partners now! It's, like, basically contractual! That way... if you're ever in a pinch, whether it's New York or wherever, you can drop me a text and I'll be there."
Gwen grinned wide, big blue eyes reflecting the neon lights of New York outside. "And same for me! Got that, partner?"
