Life in Gnomeregan
Tellwinna's background has always been a mystery to the people of Stormwind and beyond, and she is more than willing to tell different accounts of her background, making them sometimes conflict with each other. But, some digging usually reveals the truth, which is more tragic than the versions she likes to tell. (Fewer Sexy Incubuses)
What is known with some certainty is that she was born and raised in the gnomish city of Gnomeregan, with her mother being a famous tinkerer and her father a very accomplished mage in the Kirin Tor. Her childhood was relatively eventless, or as eventless as it could be in the community of the gnomes, where inventions, more often than not, cause no small amount of chaos. Still, it was part of everyday life... so it all boils down to perspective.
Her life took a dramatic turn when the dwarven digging operations around Uldaman, due to the excavations, awoke the brutish Troggs. Attracted to the gnomish machinery, they built tunnels to emerge from the deep underground, breaching the lowest reaches of Gnomeregan. For five years, the gnomes fought the Troggs but were slowly overrun. During the attacks, Tellwinna, a young and promising mage, studied in Dalaran under Windle Sparkshine.
Sadly, there was little she could do when she recovered the news that a plan to stop the invasion with gas had the effect of making the Troggs go berserk. At that, the filters failed, causing the gas to go straight through them into the homes of Gnomes, killing them as they waited in their homes, thinking they were safe. To her horror, and that of most of The Realms, nearly 80% of the gnomish race died within days. Her parents included among them.
Birth of a Warlock
Tellwinna was consumed by thoughts of revenge for her parent's death and the destruction of her home, which turned out to be due to the treason of the High Tinkerer's chief advisor, Sicco Thermaplugg. Along this path, she discovered and plunged into the forbidden texts of Dalarn's library, making several pacts to bind demons to her will and unlock access to the destructive, corrupting, and manipulative power of Fel magicks. Sparkshine remained unaware until it was too late; Tellwinna was no longer a mage but had instead embraced the powers of a Warlock.
Not waiting to be judged and exiled, Tellwinna left on her own volition, taking all her research with her as she vanished to parts unknown. She came to train under a very unsavoury Satyr named Delkron; he had, in turn, been trained in the dark arts by one of the first satyrs, Xavius.
Tellwinna was an excellent student but also smart enough to know the satyr would attempt to backstab her, and she was ready for it. A ritual was to be performed, and Delkron claimed it would empower them both, but Tellwinna knew something was off, and when her teacher was distracted, she made minor changes to the ritual. What had been the satyr's attempt to claim her soul turned into the opposite. Tellwinna trapped her teacher inside a soul crystal to help empower her spells.
Revenge on Thermaplugg
After several years, Tellwinna appeared in Ironforge, where she, together with others, mounted an assault on Gnomeregan and, after fighting their way through the Troggs and Lepargnomes, found their way to where Sicco Thermaplugg was hiding. The battle was long, and Tellwinna unleashed her newfound demonic magic to bear against the mad tinkerer's inventions. Tellwinna and her allies were victorious in drowning the madman, but it was not enough to solve the damage already caused by his machinations.
Still, Thermaplugg was gone, yet her use of demonic powers caused much suspicion among the Gnome population, ending with Gelbin Mekkatorque seeing no other option but to exile her. What followed was a terrible row between the two, as Tellwinna held the High Tinkerer in large part responsible for what happened in Gnomeregan and, by extension, the death of her family.
How they dared to judge her after the fact that she, who helped, was seen as a monster for the weapon she chose to wield when someone like Thermaplugg, who relied on tinkering, could trick everyone and cause the death of most of their people, with a city now poisoned by radiation and gas. Power did not make someone evil, but Mekkatorque was too blind to see it.
Storming off, Tellwinna vanished again, seeking to delve deeper into the dark arts.
Founding the Slaughtered Lamb
She would later appear again, this time in Stormwind, where she bought and opened a small pub named "The Slaughtered Lamb" in the city's Mage District.
The pub became a haven for the darker elements of Stormwind, functioning as a meeting and training ground for those seeking to study the darker forms of magicks. Tellwinna has since trained several promising students, introducing them to the warlock's power. But she also started building her network, which soon got her in the sight of Master Mathias Shaw of SI:7. He was unsure of the gnome's intentions and worried she might be a danger to the people of Stormwind.
Much to the surprise of both Tellwinna and Shaw, Varian Wrynn personally visited the proprietress at the pub, and what followed was a long conversation, of which much of what was said remained known only to Tellwinna, Master Shaw and King Wrynn.
Ultimately, Tellwinna and other warlocks could remain in Stormwind if they were not working against the city's interests, which she had no problem swearing on. This had been a surprise to Tellwinna, who had expected to be thrown out again, and with this one act of compassion, King Wrynn assured Tellwinna's future loyalties. Tellwinna became a reliable source of information regarding the dark arts and forbidden magic, and crown agents regularly sought her out in times of need.
Finally able to flourish, the gnome took to her new place in life with enthusiasm so often found among her kind, smashing any conceived notions of how a warlock should behave with a combination of wit and charm.
Drive:
Tellwinna is driven by her pursuit of dark magical knowledge and unshaken loyalty to Stormwind and its royal line. Some might think these would clash, but that is not the case. She will combine the two to ensure her faction comes out on top.
Visuals
To the surprise of a few, Tellwinna is passionate about purple, no matter what shade. She was born with her father's purple hair, and she always likes to wear it as part of her outfits, often combined with black or blue. She would feel naked if she were in any other colour, and that would not do. In general, Tellwinna is a gnome woman of average height, standing at 3'3", with a soft and friendly face and deep purple eyes.
Personality
Tellwinna is eccentric, outspoken, and friendly, but this shouldn't be mistaken for immaturity, naivety, or weakness. She is well-versed in the world's ways and can be underhanded when the situation demands it. Underneath the surface, Tellwinna constantly analyzes plans and weighs the pros and cons of her actions, focusing mainly on the long-term smart move over more rash and emotional decisions. In betrayal of this composed and calculative demeanour, Tellwinna is ruthless when handling people who have aroused genuine fury inside her; she cannot stand traitors and despises them with a burning passion. She can go as far as acts of brutal torture and murder without so much as batting an eye if it can be gotten away with, or she might use more subtle methods like intimidation and blackmail when those cards are off the table.
Tellwinna is also highly intelligent and takes excellent care of her image. She plays manipulative games, such as lying on official accounts, tricking her opponents with staged results or false information, and creating forged historical documents to make herself appear more kind and benevolent than she is.
Despite Tellwinna's often eccentric and nefarious tendencies, she deeply cares for her subordinates, viewing them as a family or collection of children. Her loyalty lies with Stormwind and King Varian Wrynn. She, much like the likes of Master Mathias Shaw, is willing to do the things the lofty lords and light-bound rulers of the city could never do. She has an excellent working relationship with Stormwind's intelligence service, SI:7.
Though she has pledged herself to the service of noble causes and is not innately evil, her desire to understand darker magics and exercise unwavering command over demonic forces breeds mistrust among even her closest allies. Tellwinna is the kind of person to peer into the Void without hesitation, leveraging the chaos she glimpses within to devastating ends in battle.
She is also a gossip; few things in The Realm escape her notice for long. Whether they are true or not can be challenging to say. But the most important thing is whether they are juicy or not!
Equipment
Soul Gems
Tellwinna has several souls trapped inside gems, two of the most important in her collection being that of her satyr teacher, Delkron, and the second being the soul of Sicco Thermaplugg. Most of the time, they are hidden inside her robes, but when in use, they levitate around her and can be used to strengthen her spells. But, most of the time, she uses it to keep specific individuals from "moving on" or escaping into the Twisting Nether, as the case is with many demons.
Abilities/Powers
Tellwinna is a woman of Sharp Wit, and Keen Perception. She knows her way around people and places, keeping herself calm even in the face of demonic monstrosities; after the things she has seen and experienced, it takes much to frighten her. She is confident and not just a little stubborn.
Her true power lies in the dark arts of the Warlock, where she has specialised in Affliction, making her a master of shadow magic specialising in draining life or stamina, and weakening foes with different hexes, curses and afflictions that cause terrible damage over time. She is a master of shadow-touched powers; to cause Agony and Corruption in enemies is what she does best. Even the most battle-hardened warriors can be deceived, landing blow after blow against the warlock, only to succumb to their suffering as their vitality is siphoned away. Her magic is deceptively insidious that way... and that is why so many warriors underestimate her until it is too late.
She can seal victims' souls inside gems, cause fear into the heart of the weak of will with a glare, summon people from a great distance (with some assistance), and employ different curses to make life difficult for her opponents.
Furthermore, as a Warlock, Tellwinna employs an array of personal demonic servants whose powers she can call upon. At present, she has four: an Imp, a Void Walker, a Felhunter, and a Sayaad, which often takes the form of a handsome Incubus. (If you can, always have eye candy.)
Lastly, Tellwinna is not known as the Proprietress for nothing and has a knack for getting things, be they objects or information. Her extensive network is a great asset; she hears more than a few whispers at the pub. She is usually an excellent place to go if someone wants something found or to gain access to information. She might not be at the top of the food chain, but that is how she likes it, better to have the big ones owe you a few favours instead.
