The boy walked along the street. It was a sunny day, uneventful and carefree. His mother was walking beside him, holding his hand. She was like a porcelain doll, sculpted to be brighter than the sun itself. She smiled at him as they walked, basking in the warm glow overhead. He smiled back, beaming, eyes closed, mouth wide, with pearly whites that would make any mother proud. He was her beautiful baby, and she the luckiest mother in all the world. They had stopped walking, simply appreciating the moment for what it was. There would be many more like this, of course, but there was nothing these two loved more than to appreciate every moment. The boy was ready to start walking again. They didn’t want to be late. He tugged on his arm. There was no response. He tugged again, meeting the same response. He blinked, opening his eyes, and immediately wished he hadn’t. The porcelain sun was gone. His mother’s teeth were jagged fangs. Her blonde hair had grown wild, running down her back like a feral mane. Her eyes were narrow slits. The way she looked at him now was far from love. Her skin had turned a dark shade of brown, flesh giving way to stony crags. A glowing light emanated from behind her teeth. She opened her mouth, and unleashed- *lick*
Miyuki blinked, again. It was Snaffles. The brown, spotted bearded lizard lay on the boy’s collarbone, staring up at him with an intent eclipsing the gods themselves. Then, he licked Miyuki. On the nose. Again. He wrinkled his nose, more annoyed that Snaffles had woken him up than at the invasion of his privacy. “G’won.” Miyuki made a jerking motion with his head, towards the door that had been creaked ajar. He must have forgotten to close it last night. Snaffles made no response, continuing to stare at Miyuki like one transcendent. “G’won!” Miyuki tried a few more head gestures, before relenting, grumbling. With one of his claws, Miyuki softly tickled Snaffles’ bloated chin. At once, the gremlin’s placid face curled into a wide smile. His bulbous throat jiggled, and his tail swished from side to side. Even Miyuki, disgruntled as he was, grinned. “You win. Little devil.”Once Miyuki crawled out of bed, Snaffles pounced, moving like a thing possessed. He skittered across the floor and was back out the way he came in with a speed that something so lazy had no right having. Miyuki went through the motions of getting changed, which was really just getting out of his boxers and putting on cargo shorts. He made a big yawn, sounding more like a drawn-out growl as he reached as high as his little arms could reach. He smacked his lips a few times, then groggily opened the door and headed down to the main area. He wondered who all was in today. He had forgotten to check the clock by his bed. It probably wasn’t too late, right?

CLANG!
As Miyuki descended the stairs, a loud musical note shook the building. He would know it well, of course. It was Melody's midday bell, using her Quirk, Harmonious Scales, to alert everyone in the building of the time. Perhaps it was unnecessary, in the age of digital watches and alarms, but Melody had gotten so upset when they queried why she needed to do it on a daily, hourly basis that everyone just let her. The main area, as Miyuki entered, was busy. It was always busy, a place of work and efficiency, let by the iron fist of Flashfire. Yet nobody here would say they had any problems with it. Well, one or two, maybe. In the centre stood Melody, beaming as the noise of her clanging scales faded away. Around her he would spot the all-too familiar faces of the Dragon Heights Agency, all busy with paperwork, phone calls, you name it. "Tch, lazy ass. What time d'you call this?" Ghidora was passing him with a stack of paper in both arms, glaring at him with piercing eyes. She swished her tail as she paused for a moment to observe his state of being, then huffed a small jet of flame. "Aw, don't be mean to the boy. Miyuku, darling, why not come and have some coffee. I've just put on a fresh brew. You look exhausted, poor dear!"Ghidora stalked off as Miss Abyss gave him a warm, friendly smile, stalking across the room and giving him a tight embrace. Out of all of the Dragons, she gave Miyuku the most love. Across the room, Miyuku would see Eborsisk (the Mighty) watching with a shit-eating grin on his face. More fodder to tease him with, later. Miyuku was not safe from Eborsisk's pokes and jabs, especially not when Miss Abyss was showering him with affection!

Miyuki brought up his claws to his ears, but it was too little too late. His head was ringing, not unlike that damn bell. How did that Quirk work anyway? It made no sense to him. He couldn't exactly think about it now, not unless he wanted a migraine. That, and the brain power Miyuki did have at this point was focused on reacting to Ghidora. Where did she think she got off like that?! He met her flame with a snort of purple embers from his snout. His tail flicked wildly, and he glared down at Ghidora. "Big words coming from you, small fry." Their rivalry wasn't anything new. Even if Ghidora was older than him, it sure didn't feel like it most of the time when she couldn't ride the Roaring Rubber Band at the amusement park.
There wouldn't be much time for either of them to dwell on it. Ghidora, because she actually seemed to have things to do for once. Miyuki... because Miss Abyss. Sigh. He tried to run, but it was no use. Speaking of bigger people... Miyuki didn't need to see Eborsisk's smug face to know that he was watching. He always was. Meanwhile, Miyuki squirmed, to little avail. "NNnghh... fine." He slowly moved his arms to accept the hug. She usualkly didn't let him go until he reciprocated, and even the hugs sometimes lasted for a while after that. Miyuki would never dare admit it, but he did really enjoy her hugs. He didn't exactly get them from... well.
Once that embarrassing ritual was over, Miyuki would follow her over to the kitchen area. His hair was absolutely frazzled, but that was par for the course, for him and most of the Heights. There was only so much one could do to keep a dragon's mane in check. He grabbed an empty mug, holding it out for Miss Abyss to pour. "Yeah, just been having those dreams again." He scowled. It wasn't exactly a pleasant subject. "I'll manage."

"Ah, but dreams are a mirror into our true soul, a reverberance of past, present and future events! Don't dismiss your dreams, for they may be a sign of things to come!"
Melody gave him a beaming smile, made all the creepier by her speech. Miss Abyss shot her a look, causing her to spin around and saunter off to look for work elsewhere. She patted the messy hair before pouring him a thick, strong cup of coffee. All the dragons drank it black, powerful and without mercy. It was all some of them could do to stay awake for the long shifts and intense missions. Miss Abyss sipped hers, dark as the night, watching him with a scrutinous eye. "Dreams are just dreams," she said at last, with a small smile, "and we can't choose what comes to us at night. We just have to buffer it with good thoughts throughout the day, hmm?" She glanced up as another dragon entered. The blue-skinned giant, Retribution, ducked under the doorway into the kitchen. He eyed the two of them, especially Miyuki, then gave a solemn nod. "Flashfire's on her way back," was all he said before making an exit. Always the strong, silent type. Miss Abyss watched him go with a playful smirk. "Ah, I love to see him approach, but watching him leave is so much better~! Ah - never mind," she said, suddenly aware of her company with a nervous laugh. Miss Abyss ruffled his hair again, despite any resistance, and left Miyuku alone to tend to her own pile of work. A few faces were missing. Flashfire, Luminous Pearl Princess and Dragon King of the East Sea were out, probably on patrol. Fahrenheit and Red Claw were noticeably absent, too. Even for noon on a weekday, it seemed quite busy. Perhaps there was a surge of villain activity in Hosu City, which, knowing the area, was not surprising...

Miyuki nearly spit out his coffee. He remembered why he tried not to spend too much time around Melody. The woman was nice and all, but she did not know how to read the room. Instead, the boy choked on it, coughing up a storm until he got it under control. He gave Melody a look as she left, but it came out as more of a wince. Miss Abyss' presence was a welcome reprieve from it all. "Th... Thanks, Miss Abyss." It struck him that while they all called him Miyuki, he didn't know any of their names. He almost scowled again. Was there a reason for that?
His thoughts were interrupted by Retribution of all people. He was easily the one that Miyuki looked up to most... which was why it always skeeved him out whenever Miss Abyss talked about him like that. He never knew his dad, but it felt like how it would probably feel if one of his coworkers tried flirting with his dad. It was weird, and weirder to think about. Miyuki didn't have a chance to say anything to Retribution before he had moved, and Miss Abyss was on her way after ruffling his hair one more time. The boy resigned himself to sipping the rest of his coffee, trying to hide his pink cheeks.
Once he was finished, Miyuki put the mug down, wiping his mouth clean with one of his arms. Now that he had some (relative) peace to himself, Miyuki's attention scrambled across the main workroom for something. He found it on the far counter. He scampered over there, snatching up the slightly crumpled sheaf of paper. Holding it close against his chest (though careful not to tear it any more than he already had), Miyuki dashed over to one of the free sofas, bouncing against it as he made a (not so) heroic landing. Once he was safe, Miyuki peeked at the paper.
It was almost time for his entrance exam to U.A. He could barely count the days now. It was time to see if all of this had been worth it. His eyes twinkled at the thought. It was perhaps the only thing he had had to look forward to for the past two years.
For a moment, the boy frowned. His ears perked back somberly as he scrunched himself into a fetal position on the couch.. He just hoped he didn't let Miss Flashfire down.

As Miyuku prepared to open his letter, determining his fate within or without U.A., the front doors to the Magmafields slammed open. A hot gust of wind blew in, much to the chagrin of the Dragons, as Flashfire made her flashy as always entrance, arms folded and a mighty grin upon her face.
"Another successful patrol! Three for three; villains suppressed, civilians saved, autographs given! Hah!"
Flanking her was Luminous Pearl Princess and Dragon King of the East Sea looking as fierce as always. They were Flashfire's go-to sidekicks on patrol, not because of their actions, but because they were the only two in the agency more ferocious than she was. Flashfire knew she could rely on these two to scare most villains into submission, even if Luminous Pearl Princess and Dragon King of the East Sea were simultaneously the most nerdy Dragons. Sometimes, it was all in the looks. The three fanned out with their reports, spreading them out to the others. Flashfire grinned as she was relieved of her reports, before she spotted Miyuku curled up on the sofa. She raised a bushy eyebrow.
"Eeh? Up so late, and looking so meek? What's eatin' our little dragon, huh?"

Miyuki’s mind had begun to wander, as it often did when he was left to his devices like this. He wouldn’t wander long. When the doors slammed open, he jolted upright, looking around like he had been rudely awakened (again). In a similar amount of time, Flashfire herself was already in his face, all fangs and flames. Miyuki scrambled to his feet, off of the couch. He gulped, before offering up the paper to her.
“Just, uhh, gettin’ nervous about the big day, Miss Flashfire. It’s nothing.” His eyes didn’t meet hers. They were pointed at her feet. His tail anxiously swished back and forth.

Flashfire took the letter, pulling out a pair of reading glasses from her utility belt to see the writing better. A few seconds... and her eyes widened. Her mouth opened in a sharp-tooth grin and she pumped her arm into the air with a load, roaring cheer!
"Aaaaaaah! Miyuku, what a great thing to read! Ya've been invited to join the U.A. entrance exam!"
The Dragons turned their heads, and suddenly they rushed over, congratulating Miyuku! Miss Abyss grabbed him in a great squeezing hug, while Retribution looked down at him, closed his eyes and gave an affirming nod. Even Ghidora was looking less mean than usual, but still leering in his direction. Flashfire pried Miss Abyss from Miyuku, instead holding out a firm hand, looking down at the boy with a burning light in her eyes - boy? No! This was now a man in her eyes!
"Well done! I'm so proud of ya! Well, there's no time to waste is there? We gotta get you primed for the exam trial! Training session downstairs! Ooh, I'm feelin' pumped jus' thinkin' about it!"

Miyuki blinked. He nearly fell back into the couch from his surprise. He wasn't expecting Miss Flashfire to have taken that so well. He... well, now that he thought about it, Miyuki wasn't sure what he had expected. He looked around in surprise at the whole Agency gathering around. The boy hardly knew what to say. He kept opening and closing his snout, eventually stopping as he gawked at everyone. It was strange. Miyuki knew in his heart that these Heroes cared about him in their own way, and yet seeing them react to even this preliminary news made the boy's heart soar. Not even Miss Abyss, whose hugs normally frustrated him (especially in front of a bunch of people) didn't set off Miyuki. It felt reassuring, actually.
Once Miyuki was free, he nodded up at Miss Flashfire. His jagged mouth formed a daring grin, and he slapped his claw into Flashfire's hand to give it a firm shake. "Y... Yes, ma'am!" Miyuki gave quick nods to everyone, then bolted for the stairs, running like a demon possessed. This was his favorite part of the day!

Downstairs was a large training court, set aside from the traditional Japanese room in that it was lined with a heat-proof metal. The Dragons did not mix well with wood. Flashfire and the others stood before Miyuku, her arms folded as she grinned toothily. "Alright! This is a special occasion. Usually we'll give you an opponent... but today you have become a man! So you can choose who ya want to spar with! Nobody is off limits, not to a potential new hero like yourself!" The others looked on, each Dragon waiting with anticipation. Who would Miyuku pick? He had only sparred with Ghidora and trained with Retribution, but nothing serious... now, he could pick anyone to prove his real worth against!

Miyuki stood in the middle of the training court, for what felt like several long moments. He took a deep whiff of the air. The smell of this place always got his spirits up. Sure, he wasn't the biggest fighter or anything like that, but there was no mistaking that Miyuki loved to fight. He felt at home here. Hearing Miss Flashfire's challenge (again) set a fire in the boy's heart. His ears tipped up sharply, and his tail ran rigid. The boy's eyes skimmed the crowd of the Dragons. All of them were watching him. This was his big moment to shine. It may be his last moment, before he started life at U.A.
...assuming he got in, of course.
With this adrenaline coursing through him (and maybe a bit of adolescent arrogance), Miyuki stepped forward, dramatically pointing his finger at the Dragon at the head of them all.
"I challenge you, Miss Flashfire!"

"Hooooo~?"
Flashfire laughed, her bosom rising and falling as she spread her arms and thrust her head back to the sky.
"A challenge to the mighty Alpha Dragon herself! Well, we are feeling bold, aren't we... what are we waiting for!"
She took her position on the opposite side of the arena. From one pocket, Flashfire plucked a small biscuit... which Miyuki would recognise as one of her super spicy support gear biscuits. Flashfire'a quirk relied on spice, but what level was she choosing? With a grin, she popped the small disc between sharp fangs, grunting as the spice flooded her system. Flames erupted from her mouth as she slammed her fists together!
"Come on then, Miyuki! Today you prove you are a man! Fight me with all your power!"

Miyuki gulped. Maybe this was a mistake... no. No! There was no backing out now! This was his moment! Miyuki mustered courage, and he stood proud, stout though he was. He took a ready stance, waiting to see his mentor down those signature spices. No matter what she was bringing to the table, it was going to be a hard fight. Knowing Miss Flashfire, she was probably pulling out the big guns. She wasn't one to take it easy on him. For once, Miyuki was glad for that.
Without thinking, Miyuki ran straight at Miss Flashfire. There was a daring look in his eyes, unafraid and unwavering. Just when it looked like he was planning to just barrel into her legs, Miyuki quickly squatted, then leaped into the air! Ghidora had actually taught him that spring-heeled trick. It sent him soaring forward and upward, just above his opponent. At the peak of his airtime, Miyuki's grin turned into a snarl. The spines along his body suddenly glowed purple, all the way up to his horns, before that snarl turned into a mighty roar! A stream of purple flame gushed out of his mouth like a fire hydrant, right down on Miss Flashfire! The heat was on!

Flashfire didn't move a muscle as Miyuku leapt into the air... but as he opened his mouth and released a purple flamed roar, she let out a vicious roar as well! Baring her teeth, she released a jet of red-hot flame to meet his attack in mid-air. As they collided, it created a brief explosion, hot air rushing outwards and across the watching Sidekicks.
Flashfire let out a howling laugh, unpromising her arms as fire spurted between her sharp teeth. She then pushed off from the ground, cracking the training court beneath her with her spice-infused muscles. The smoke that was left from their flame collision was dispersed violently, and Miyuku would find himself face to face with a snarling dragon. She swung a downward fist towards his chest, muscles glowing from her heat-powered strength. No holds barred!

Miyuki could feel the heat coming from Miss Flashfire before it had even happened. He had become familiar with that heat, especially in close proximity. It was only natural that their breath attacks had a square-off like this. The boy flew backward from the impact, but managed to land on his feet, if only just. He didn't have much time to gather his bearings before she was on him again. Without thinking, Miyuki bobbed to the right in an instinctive attempt to get out of harm's way. Depending on how that went, Miyuki turned that jerking motion into a dive, where he lunged for Miss Flashfire's ankle. He opened his mouth, so wide that it almost looked like it unhinged itself, before chomping down, hard. What was Miyuki even doing?
Whatever it took to win.
