Powers/Abilities:
Master of the Mystic Arts
Strange has both self-taught and learned a vast array of magic spells and techniques. His intellect and thirst for knowledge leads him to research old spells, practice and perfect what he knows and arm himself with powers to counter any situation he finds himself in. Strange tries to adapt, keeping an eye on what threats to Earth are active and harbouring spells that would theoretically work best to stop them.
Magic Spells
Strange can manipulate energy into various beams and bolts of powerful magic.
Eldritch Magic
Strange can harness Eldritch Magic, manipulating it in a variety of ways to aid him in various situations. He can shape them, move them and change them with a gesture or movement. Strange can create shields, whips, swords and protective domes, which are all light yet incredibly durable magical constructs.
Portal Creation
Using his Sling Ring, Strange can create portals to travel immense distances. He needs to focus where he is travelling to, but there is no limit of distance if he knows the place he is going. Strange can open various sizes, from hand-sized to large enough to transport vehicles. He can also manipulate the portals, moving them at a fast speed towards people or objects.
Mirror Magic
Strange can harness the power of the Mirror Dimension, creating defences to absorb energy-based attacks, or weapons in the form of mirror shards at his opponents. He has a master level of control over the Mirror Dimension itself, and can manipulate the interior when inside. Strange can bring someone into the Mirror Dimension, and is able to control it to his benefit.
Astral Projection
Strange can separate his physical body from his spiritual form, entering the Astral Plane. Here, he can travel great distances, stay out of his body for up to a week and make himself visible to others at will.
Conjuration
Strange can conjur objects from this and other dimensions. He can do this swiftly, for use in combat or simply through day to day life.
Transmutation
Strange can use magic to transform objects into other items. He can alter his clothes, change liquid, and alter solid objects into other things. This only works on inanimate objects.
Telepathy
Strange can communicate directly into people's minds. He can talk telepathically to anyone around him, though he can't read minds.
Telekinesis
Strange has the magical ability to telekinetically move objects with his mind. While it can't stop objects with a high momentum or lift great weights, it is effective at manipulating items around him, and in great numbers.
Intangible
Strange can turn himself invisible, and make himself intangible to move through walls and objects. He can't perform any other magic while in an intangible form.
Banishment
Strange can banish others to various dimensions. Strong magic users or those of hardy mental might can contest this action, but with enough concentration Strange can force people into another plane of his choosing.
Illusions
Strange can create illusions and fake images around him, including sounds, smells and realistic movements.
Elemental Manipulation
Strange can manipulate the elements themselves. He can create balls and jets of flame against his enemies, or using it as a simple utility spell for day to day life. The fire he creates burns a brilliant green. He can harness the wind and air, using it to move people around with great gusts. Strange can manipulate the earth, making it rise up from beneath his feet or tear it apart to form chasms. He can turn water, manipulating it to his will.
Time Manipilation
Strange has the power to slow down time around him, affecting everything in his vicinity. This requires his complete concentration, and he can't perform any other actions while he is slowing down time. Once his concentration lapses, time returns to normal.
Genius-level intellect
Strange has an immense mind. He is a brilliant thinker, able to take in information and extrapolate without issue. He picks up new information and skills quickly, often seamlessly, and is naturally gifted to learn new things, holding a photographic memory. Strange is quick witted and thinks quickly on his feet.
Master Physician
Strange was a gifted physician, and still has plenty of skills under his belt even after the destruction of his hands. He can still consult adeptly to other physicians and surgions, and his medical knowledge is unparalleled.
Expert Tactician
Strange's vast intellect also makes him an incredible strategist and tactician, using quick wits and insight to counter enemies and trap foes with subtle spells and maneuvers.
Master Martial Artist
Strange trained in combat at Kamar-Taj while he was learning to become a Sorcerer. He is a highly adept martial artist, can wield weapons with skill and can hold his own against many hand-to-hand combatants even without the use of his magic.
Bilingual
Strange can speak a multitude of different languages, both worldly and extraterrestrial in nature. He can pick up new languages with little issue.
Weapons/Items:Sling Ring
Sling Rings are mystical rings that allow the wielder to open and sustain two portals between two locations. Only those who are magically attuned can use them, and Strange is known to be proficient in both their use and portal mastery.
Cloak of Levitation
A sentient cloak that grants the wearer the power of levitation and flight. It is made from a durable, magical weave that makes it lightweight, comfortable and deadly. It is perhaps Strange's closest ally, and can attack on his command or on its own merit to protect him. The cloak can even grasp objects and manipulate things by using its corners as hands, and lift items into the air even if not being worn.
The Eye of Agamotto
The Eye is a powerful artifact worn by the Sorcerer Supreme. It is a tool for white magic, totally unresponsive to evil hearts or those who wish to use it for nefarious deeds. It can emit an all-revealing light, to see through illusions and lies, and allow Strange to view recent events as if they are happening again. It grants the user the ability to look into someone's very soul, to reveal their true selves and cut through any masks a person might metaphorically wear.Appearance
Image:
Physical Appearance:
Strange is a tall, chiselled man with a handsome face and a toned body. His hair is black, streaked with white and always parted to one side. Strange sports a classic goatee, keeping it meticulously kept and preened. His body is fit, something he takes great pride in keeping on top of with vigorous daily routines and training. Strange's hands are noticeable immediately as the most broken part of him. Once great tools, now they shake constantly, unable to stay still, and are riddled with scars that criss-cross over his skin from surgery.
Clothing and Armor:
Strange wears the outfit of the Sorcerer Supreme, a blue tunic in a very old fashion. When he's off duty, he wears comfortable clothes, old university sweaters and basic jeans. Strange isn't much concerned with fashion. He does wear the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation on most occasions, the latter being always nearby even if he isn't dressed with it.
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
Straight
General Personality:
Strange is a tenacious man, practical and selfless In equal measures. He can see right from wrong, but also between the black and white areas where each lie. Strange is fearless and will do whatever it takes to save lives, worlds or universes, putting his own safety far behind that of other people. Brilliant and intelligent, he is a fiercely loyal ally, but a dangerous foe.
Strange won't stop at anything when he knows something must be done. He treads a thin line, trying to do his best to save everyone he can but also knowing that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Sometimes, sacrifices must be made, and Strange will bear the burden to make the difficult choices others often can't. Perhaps it is why he doesn't call himself a Hero, because he approaches his role in a practical, cold and calculating way.
That isn't to say he will sit back while others can be saved. Both as a Neurosurgeon and the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange will do everything in his power to save lives. Unless the probability of sucess is literally zero, he will strive to do what he can, everything within his powers until all options are exhausted. Even then, Strange will fight on to do what he knows to be right.
Strange is a man who is always looking to improve himself. He reads books like a fish drinks water, and teaches himself new skills on a daily basis, even beyond magic and, in his younger days, Neurosurgeon. Strange isn't someone who can relax, and is always doing something to strengthen his mind or his body.
He used to be a man riddled with egotistical views, boastful and arrogant, traits that were removed one by one after his near-fatal accident. However Strange does still show small versions of his younger self, often sarcastic, sometimes blowing his own trumpet. Yet it is nowhere near as obnoxious as he was, and he rarely speaks out of malice to those around him that sit in his good books. Strange does taunt enemies, taking sly jabs at an opponent with the intention of disrupting their thinking, trying to make a mistake in the heat of combat.

History:
Childhood
Stephen Vincent Strange was born as the second of three children to Beverley and Eugine Strange. Even at a young age, Stephen was brilliant. He was reading from two, walking and speaking before any other children his age, and possessed a fearless tenacity to do what he set his young mind to. He was destined for great things, everyone said so. Perhaps too much, leading for Stephen to become arrogant, to look down on those around him, to lord his vast intellect over children and adults alike. Stephen didn't have many friends as a child due to this. Perhaps the only person who he truly respected was his younger sister, Donna. The two were as close as anything, and she could cut through his arrogance like a knife, something he really loved her for.
Unfortunately, at six years old, while swimming in a quarry near their home, Donna became trapped under water. Despite Stephen's best efforts, she didn't survive, and he had to carry her limits body back home. It changed young Stephen. He had been powerless to help Donna, and so he vowed never to be powerless again. Stephen would do everything within his abilities to save as many people as he could. From that day on, he knew he wanted to become a doctor, to help people and make sure he never lost another life.

Doctor Strange
Stephen studied hard at school, striving far beyond even the lofty expectations that had been put on him. He was accepted into New York College as a pre-med student, then Columbia University to complete his residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Stephen's arrogance grew and grew, some might have said festering like the malignant tumours he removed so often. He became self absorbed, fiercely focused on his work. Stephen even missed the funeral of his father, not long after his mother had passed away. This caused a great friction between the last person in his life who was close to him, his older brother Victor. The last time they spoke, they clashed in a fierce argument over the matter. Stephen couldn't see where he had gone wrong. In fact, attending his father's funeral would have broken him mentally, though his reasons to Victor were over his work. Perhaps he had spoken poorly, but the damage was done.
Doctor Strange didn't let that hold him back. He continued upwards, soaring high in the neurosurgical skies. His name became one on everyone's lips, and he was sought after for consultation, lectures, talks and even Time magazine. Strange let fame and admiration wash over him like the ocean.

The Accident, The Aftermath
Fate can play funny tricks sometimes. Strange was driving home one evening, no different from any other, speeding as he usually did in his expensive and fast car. He was reading an article as he drove, a particularly difficult operation that he was trying to figure out on his own before the author, when his car flipped. It took him over the side of a cliff, tumbling down until it came to a jarring halt far below. Strange was lucky to live. He remembers nothing, not being cut out of the mangled wreck or rushed to the nearest hospital, not his then-girlfriend tending to him personally as they rushed him into surgery. He simply remembers waking up, and seeing his hands.
Hands that had defined his career. Hands which propelled him to be the best Neurosurgeon around. Hands which, now, looked like they had been taken apart and put back together, which was in fact what they had been forced to do. It was the best they could have done, the doctor explained. "I could have done better," was Strange's reply.
After that, his life was ruined. He spent all of his savings on trying to find a solution to bring his hands back. Strange started drinking heavily, bickering with anyone who still tried to stay close to him. Soon he was alone, with a dwindling bank account and nothing to show for it save for dead ends.
Strange's last shot was given to him by an ex colleague, who told him that he knew a man who had both legs crippled in an accident. His colleague told him that he himself had told the man he would never, could never walk again. Yet when he saw him a year later, the man had been walking as if his legs hadn't been shattered beyond repair by a twelve tonne lorry. He asked him how, how did this happen? The man had smiled, and responded simply. A name. A place. Somewhere deep in Tibet where he had found a cure.
Kamar-Taj
Strange sold his flat and all his possessions save for a broken watch that he still held onto. A reminder of who he had once been. He bought a one way ticket to Tibet, only the clothes on his back and his raw tenacity in his heart. Strange had to find the answer. The cure. The way to bring his hands back, to go back to the life he had before. It must be here, in Kamar-Taj, a mysterious temple or holy place where they could mend broken bodies that science deemed irreparable.
Strange wandered Tibet for weeks before he found a hint of Kamar-Taj. He was accosted by muggers in an alley, but someone stepped in to save him. A man who named himself Mordo, and who said he knew why Strange was here. Yet he couldn't just bring Strange to Kamar-Taj, especially because he saw the man wasn't worthy. Mordo left Strange at the doors to his temple, and there Strange waited for six days and nights.
Impressed by his tenacity, the Ancient One herself stepped out to greet him.

The Ancient One's Teachings
The Ancient One was patient, but blunt. Stephen found her to be grating, like a handful of chiefs who had tried to chew him out over the years for doing what he wanted. Do you want your hands? "More than anything." She wasn't so sure, speaking with a wry smile. It was a choice, she told him. You can have your old life back, return to being genius, arrogant, disliked and mentally toxic Doctor Strange. Or... enlightenment. True expansion of the mind, discovering wonders beyond the scope of man's understanding. Astral projection. New world, universes, even other dinensions would be at his fingertips. Strange scoffed. "I don't know what kind of shit you smoke out here, lady, but-"
The Ancient One thrust a palm into his chest, and Strange found himself outside of his body. He looked down at her, at him, an expression of twisted puzzlement on his face. She looked back, gave him a wink, then sent his astral form catapulting away at a speed that shouldn't be possible, and into his first taste of a new dimension. The Ancient One sent him on a voyage that seemed to last a thousand years, but only took several seconds, through an infinite list of other universes and dimensions before snapping him back into his body. Now do you understand? "Yes," Strange said, and he truly did. "Please, teach me."
He spent the next few months training hard in Kamar-Taj. Strange was a natural, and the others saw his vivid potential, but gone was the arrogance that had claimed Strange before. He was learning modesty along with magic. Even with hands broken beyond repair, Strange quickly found the key to channeling it through his body, and was soon able to do the fundamentals aptly. His natural affinity for learning made him a brilliant student, and they could see he had the potential to be truly great. It was here he trained against Mordo in the Mirror Dimension, and also met Wong, a fellow Sorcerer, who he became close friends with.

Nightmare, and the Sorcerer Supreme
While Strange trained and honed his skills, darkness was creeping into the world. A group of Sorcerers, lead by a man named Kaecilius, had stolen a book from Kamar-Taj, one that granted the knowledge necessary to bring the Dream Dimension into their own. They wished to create a permanent pathway between the two dinensions, casting eternal sleep on all life so that death would never come. Unbeknown to them, they were being coerced by a Fear Lord named Nightmare, who was puppeting them to an end where he had free reign over a permanently sleeping dimension.
Strange only knew of a missing book, one he had tried to recall from the library many times for further reading. While the librarian had denied him access until he had proved himself further, Strange used his new-found magic to "borrow" a few behind their back. One in particular spoke of the Dream Dimension, but had pages that had been torn out. It was then that Mordo told him about Kaecilius and the Dreaming Zealots, who were obsessed with beating Death at any cost. The book he had found was the Book of Chronos, the pages missing those that would show the reader how to access the Dream Realm. However, as Strange read on, he learned about the dangers that lay within that realm, in the Nightmare Kingdom and the Fear Lord beyond.
Strange had concerns at this point. He had come to train his mind, not be a part of some mystic war. Yet it seemed that fate once again had it out for him, as Kaecilius and the Dreaming Zealots attacked and destroyed the London Sanctorum and killing the master there. Strange was split from the group, and had to fight Kaecilius and a few Dreaming Zealots alone.
Strange showed his aptitude for the mystic arts against the other sorcerers, able to hold his own and fight them back. When it seemed like he couldn't fight much longer, even with the Cloak of Levitation he had encountered during the battle, the Ancient One stepped in to stop the battle. However in doing so she took a fatal blow, stabbed by a weapon of dark magic, but not before forcing the Dreaming Zealots to retreat.
Strange was distressed. Another death on his hands, another failure. Yet the Ancient One calmed him, saying she had seen this coming for many years. She was fated to die so he would live. The Ancient One granted him the title of Sorcerer Supreme, gave him an ancient artifact known as the Eye of Agamotto, and then faded into death. Left against Kaelicius and the Dreaming Zealots, who were one step closer to their goal, was Strange, Wong, Mordo and a handful of sorcerers in the New York Sanctum. Strange found himself ready to join the Mystic war, after all. With the Eye around his neck and the Cloak about his shoulders, he led the others to confront Kaecilius before he could do irreversible damage.
The two forces struck as the Dreaming Zealots were preparing their final rituals.
Kaelicius was successful in opening a rift to the Dream Dimension, directly into the Nightmare Kingdom. Strange, Wong and the others watched as New York was destroyed by nightmares and power from beyond their dimension. However Strange wouldn't give up, concentrating all his power on his newly learned time spells, reversing the damage as it happened while Mordo, Wong and the others fought the other Dreaming Zealots, who had escaped his spell. Yet it seemed not enough, and Strange could only watch as Kaelicius tore open the rift once again. There was only one thing he could do, in his mind. Strange leapt forward, entering the Nightmare Kingdom himself to confront the Fear Lord that waited within.
Strange found Nightmare preparing his legion of horrors to invade their dimension. Nightmare attempted to trap him in an endless nightmare, where he watched his sister drown over and over, but Strange was ready, and instead trapped Nightmare in with him. Using the Eye of Agamotto, Strange saw deep within the Fear Lord's soul, finding the one thing that he feared. A creature named Golgul, who Strange manifested to torment Nightmare for as long as he himself was tormented by his sister's demise.
Strange's resolved proved to be greater than Nightmare, and the Fear Lord relented after endless loops of his one true fear. Strange made a bargain, then and there. Leave our dimension alone, or face worse consequences. In exchange, he offered the souls of those who had summoned him in the first place. Nightmare grudgingly accepted. Kaecilius and the Dreaming Zealots were dragged screaming into the Dream Dimension, where they would finally avoid death for eternity, under the tormenting wills of Nightmare.
After the fight, they rebuild the New York and London Sanctum. Strange was officially accepted as Sorcerer Supreme and protector of the New York Sanctum, something which Mordo couldn't accept, leaving soon after with only a terse warning for Strange. It was a bittersweet moment, as Strange felt sad to see his mentor go, but filled with a strong will to protect Earth and their dimension from otherworldly beings.

Enchantress, and the Founding of Darkwatch
Five years passed. Strange became powerful, a respected Sorcerer and feared foe of many who tried to attack Earth from other dimensions. He wasn't the only one, and learnt of other magical users and heroes that worked to defend their planet against threats. Most notably was Doctor Fate, and the two joined forces on a few occasions to repell threats. Yet for the Sorcerer Supreme, life went by pretty smoothly.
That was until a cataclysmic event unfolded. During a botched mission from ARGUS (a government led organisation tasked with keeping Metahumans in check), a being called Enchantress was released onto the world. The assault that happened was countered by a superhero group called the Justice League, which featured Doctor Fate among others. When the group couldn't hold all of the dangerous magic and mystical monsters being released onto the world, ARGUS called an emergency gathering of all known magical users to aid in the fight. Doctor Strange and Wong answered the call, and were the Founding members of the newly christened Darkwatch.
Strange, along with Hellboy, John Constantine, Zatanna Zatara, Prudence Wharton, Margali Szardos and Wong, took the fight to Enchantress. She had held the Justice League back, and they were trying to reduce the collateral from her magic, so Strange led the charge to counter her directly. She was a powerful foe, but between him and Constantine they managed to trap her in the Mirror Dimension, assaulting her from all sides with powerful spells, illusions and traps. Eventually Enchantress was restrained, her magic cut off, and Darkwatch took her to determine her fate with the Justice League.
A few members of Darkwatch called for Enchantress' host, June Moone, to be destroyed in order to stop any return. Strange called for her to be banished into a dimension where she could be watched and monitored. Ultimately, Darkwatch's opinions were ignored by Justice League and Doctor Fate. They allowed June Moone to go free, with the only person knowing her location being Fate herself. Strange felt insulted, sharing this with the other members of Darkwatch. The Justice League had fought Enchantress along side them, but pushed them to one side when making decisions. The two groups left on bad notes, and Strange returned to the Sanctum. He remained the leader of Darkwatch since then, the group coming together regularly to discuss matters of the Mystic kind. He feared that they would not be able to work with Justice League again, though, and has been working on contingencies for their members in case the two groups come to a violent clash. It seemed like Enchantress had caused more irreparable damage than first thought, with ARGUS seeming to view Darkwatch as a threat when they refused to be at the organisation's beck and call. Strange had a lot to consider, and threats were not just from beyond the stars anymore.

Present Day
Strange continues in his role as Sorcerer Supreme three years later, protecting the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York, remaining vigilant against otherworldly beings that come to Earth and standing as the head of Darkwatch, ready to protect their dimension at any cost. Whatever the future holds, it is in the hands of fate now. He simply waits, ready to tackle the next cataclysmic interdimensional event with all his will and might.
Role Play Sample:
The room erupted as Superman and Doctor Fate finished. Strange could hardly believe what he wad hearing. He and the other members of Darkwatch had suppressed the thread of Enchantress, but now they had been walled out of the final verdict. June Moone would be left alone, under the watch of Doctor Fate and he alone. Strange looked at Constantine and Zatanna, then shook his head.
"You know we can't accept that, Fate. Enchantress is a thread not just to our world but to many others. We risked our lives to stop her! Now you're telling me that the decision is out of our hands?"
For the sake of the girl's safety from your world, Doctor Fate said. That was the point that Strange knew what this had been. They had called them forth like footsoldiers, fought along side the Justice League but not as comrades, it seemed. To clean up the mess of ARGUS but not to listen to their council. Constantine and others had called for June Moone to be killed, to stop Enchantress ever coming back, but Strange and Zatanna simply wanted her to be banished under the eyes of Darkwatch. Fate, Superman and the rest of the Justice League obviously thought that Strange couldn't keep her safe.
It seemed to be the end of it. Strange and the other members of Darkwatch left in sour spirits, parting ways but making a promise to keep regular contact. He returned to the Sanctum with Wong, where he immediately set into action.

"They don't trust us. That much is apparent. This can't be left to fester... we need to prepare. If Justice League ever decided we were a liability... Come, Wong. We need to read up on a few things. How much do you know of the planet Krypton?"
