Ezra had never been much of a pen chewer, it was a habit his father had drilled out in his elementary school years. But still... goddamn what was with this thing? He'd never tried drugs before, never taken the opportunity, even when his friends in school had snuck ecstasy in for parties and such... But if he had, this would've outclassed it by a country mile.
And just as soon as he'd savored this little rush it was gone, and that pen was about as boring as any other. A brief flicker of visible confusion flitted across his features as he glanced down at the pen in his hands, before refocusing on June and the papers before him. "Monster hunters huh? I've walked right into a comic book plot haven't I?" He knew he'd fallen into something deep, moreso than he could've ever anticipated. Yet despite the assumed danger he couldn't help but feel a little excited, in a curious way... drawn in by the mystery of it all. There were a couple of critical things he wanted to know, before making any decision about how he wanted to progress. June had stated that she'd follow him no matter what he did... how she would brief him would definitely sway his choices. "Tell me then. What's Project Eden? And what do these Saints want with Wunderkinder like me? I can see the benefit of having eh... 'Daywalkers' as an asset." He had a soft spot for the Blade franchise... and honestly the idea of being like one of his favorite comic book heroes sounded badass as hell. "As far as clothes go I'm pretty versatile with what I wear, so long as it fits well and it's presentable. But if you're taking requests~... I won't say no to a nice leather jacket, and an outfit that goes along with it." If it weren't for June's mysterious personality and blasé reactions he was almost convinced she was flirting with him a little bit there.

"Write it down in an itemized list, also any food you want, and things, first things first you need to find an apartment... an apartment, not a house, not a condo, not a duplex, we need privacy and most of all anonymity." June lectured handing him a bunch of apartment guides from the local super market. "Somewhere out of the way..." She too was chewing on a pen cap, her own, and pondering where to place a radioactive time bomb where it would do the least amount of damage. "Also yes, monster hunter I know that sounds hard to believe but we are hunting literal monsters, specifically the kind that can spread their monsterism to humans and reduce our species population, vampires aren't the only ones but they are the meanest." June corrected Ezra before pausing for a moment in her chewing contemplation. "That was before my time, my mom handled most of the ops work on Eden, I am also apart of it as I was conceived and raised specifically to be partnered to a Wunderkinder, saying you're my sole reason for existence isn't a stretch of the imagination." June explained the, admittedly quite horrific details of her own birth. "And you're not a day walker, they don't exist at least not to our intel, a Wunderkinder is a human with the genetic traits of a vampire, you are the best of both worlds all of the pros none of the cons, you can feed on creatures absorbing their genetic traits, you can't pass on your infection, you can still have sex to procreate and you don't burst into flames if you get a tan." June explained in lurid detail the benefits of both worlds. "Also and this is purely speculation, given how vampirism works that the parent vampire passes genetics onto the child vampire and cements their future development you are like a blank sheet of paper, no parent, no vampire in you, from this point on whatever you choose to incorporate into your body will be your and your choice alone." June was honestly more curious about that aspect, how does one become a vampire without a parent, have a complete set of genetics from one species but possess the genetic traits of both? "The only person who could tell you more is Doctor Fried back at head quarters but she's... well she's not someone you want to meet alone, ever, especially if you're a thing she's never seen before."

Ezra happily added the apartment guides to his growing stack of papers, listening diligently to June's explanation of what she knew about him, and his kind. It wasn't much to go on unfortunately, but it would have to do for now. Top of the priority list was clearly to get himself situated and settled in, before any further investigations could take place. He gave the catalogues a quick thumb through, a surface level skim of their contents to see what kind of places were available. If they were going to be living together, as he'd pieced together in his head, they would need at least a two room apartment to share.
"Sounds like I need to be introduced to some people then..." He mused audibly. If June didn't have all the intel he needed, she could definitely point him towards the right people to fill in the blanks. "Color me interested at the very least. If I want to get to the bottom of what exactly I am, sounds like the Saints is the best option I have on hand." After straightening his documents he stood; and for the first time since waking up he took a moment to properly stretch a little, and crack the stiffness out of his joints. All while glancing around their morbid surroundings. "Is there somewhere we can go in the meantime? Somewhere with less dead people hopefully. I need a shower... and something to eat. No idea how long I was under, I'm fucking starving." Sorting out a home base and a new wardrobe and whatnot could wait till after he put some food in his belly.
June's eerie confession rung in his head, and while it didn't show immediately on his face, he felt sorry for her. He had no idea why he was created the way he was, but knowing that you were created for the specific purpose of watching and protecting something like him felt... wrong.

"Yeah." June threw a knapsack at Ezra from the ground, it was the kind you got when you joined the military, a boot camp bag. "My place." She said holding out a set of keys and tapping her phone to unlock the mortuary. "Black car, second on the left, license plate 0602JM your insurance is payed off but you still need photo ids, use this in the interim." She held up a paper temporary ID card you'd get from the state, the physical description of Ezra was accurate but the name was Ezra Mayweather. June's bag was more like a book bag a middle school girl would have with pretty purple violets on it and a fun character hanging from the zipper tassel. "Lets go, big brother." June lead the way hoisting her back pack and leaving Ezra to find the car tossing him the keys.
Stepping outside Ezra would find himself flanked by armed, and not terribly friendly looking, soldiers in full black fatigues with shielded helmets. They wouldn't speak to him or react to him no matter how much he tried but they lined the entry way of the morticians leading to a police barricade with two cop cars out on the street. People were crowded around but not really looking at Ezra or June as they exited their attention diverted to the officers trying to keep them 'away' it was a clever trap to keep any suspicious individuals in check, bring all the people they could right to where they didn't want eyes, it was paramount to keeping Vampires from showing up in the middle of the night, Vampires tended to prefer isolation big crowds were dangerous unless they were skilled. At the end of the sidewalk near the turn into an alleyway Ezra found June and a black four door suv like the ones from the movies that secret agents had, it had the matching license plate and the keys reacted lighting up when they were near, a helpful find your car feature built into the fob. June was already inside and rolled down the window. "Location is in the GPS I assume you know how to drive?"

Ezra didn't hesitate to snatch up the bag June tossed over to him, along with the temporary ID and a fancy looking set of cay keys. Compared to the humble junker he'd driven during his highschool days, whatever car these keys belonged to had to be flash. Given their prompt exit, it was clear that his moment to change would have to wait till later. He fell into line behind June, stuffing his paperwork into his bag as she led him out to a foreboding armed escort. The uniforms of their guards were completely unfamiliar to Ezra, didn't look like the standard police outfit at all. He naturally assumed they were tied to the Saints in some way, and kept his focus on June as they skirted around a barricade outside, and dipped into an alley beyond the distracted crowds.
His new ride was easy to find, despite it's inconspicuous design. He didn't hesitate to sling his bag into the back seat and take the wheel. "Yeah dad taught me how to drive a while back, we fixed up my first car together." Merely mentioning any memories from before the incident left an odd twist in his gut, but he kept a nonchalant air about himself as he fired up the engine and pulled away from the morgue, taking a moment to fiddle with the car's console until the GPS popped up, with preset directions to June's home. Now that they were rolling his focus shifted onto the mountainous task ahead of him, of constructing his new life from the ground up. He'd need to sort out all this arduous paperwork, kit himself out with new tech to replace what was left behind in his old life, fit out a whole new wardrobe and find himself a new place to hole up in. Speaking of which... "Sooo... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that wherever I choose to move into, you're gonna be tagging along? I have a feeling that the Saint's aren't gonna be happy with me living solo knowing what I am."

"That's entirely up to you." June said settling into the front seat and hitting up the seat warmer. "I will always be watching you, even if you're alone, so the necessity of me being there is non existent but at the same time I am your agent so if you being alone will cause you mental stress and undue discomfort then it's best to alleviate it." She relaxed her back into the coils and let out a content sigh. "Officially if we lived together you'd be my brother, and need to adopt the name Mayweather which.. lets be honest Mom would love that, child number... thirteen." June explained having a large family. "I'm the sixth if that isn't any rough indication of why my name is June, and yes we do have a May but he goes by Manny." June pointed at a large house three stories top middle and basement, a large yard and a wide open door. "That's my place, until you find one." She moved from her seat as the car came to a stop and opened the door. "When you meet my mom, try to be cool." She sighed mentally bracing herself for what was about to unfold taking a bold step towards the door.
Inside the house was even more 'cozy' than outside. A set dining room table with thirteen spaces, hot pots of food and cold pitchers of drink, toys scattered in the adjacent family room with a stair case leading up to the bathroom and four bedrooms with another stair case up to the top floor with the master bed and a door to the basement with the last bedroom. All in all if one could describe 'home' in a single image this was it.
"JU JU!" from the side almost like a blinding bolt of lightning a little boy tackled June nearly taking her legs out from beneath her.
"Chris!" June yelled before being taken down. "Christ get off me we have company!" June wrestled with the young boy probably no older than three years shaking her leg to pry him off.
"Oh, you, you're new." The toddler looked at Ezra and assessed him, deep blue eyes and azure hair similar to his older sister. "Who're you?" He asked imposingly for a child.

Honestly living with June didn't sound like such an awful idea. Sure... he barely knew her, had no idea what her habits were like. But she was pretty... who knows? Maybe he might even grow fond of her in time. He couldn't help but chuckle a little at her implication of constant monitoring. While the thought was a little unnerving it wasn't entirely unexpected. "That doesn't sound all that bad... as long as you're not watching me while I'm in the shower or something~." Even with his focus tied to the road ahead, there was no hiding the teasing gleam in his smirk.
The drive to June's home was short lived, and Ezra couldn't help but admire the homely aura it gave off. With such an apparently large family, it made sense to have a place so spacious. After parking up in the driveway he followed June quietly up to the door, and was equally taken aback when they stepped inside, and a hyperactive toddler appeared out of nowhere and glued himself to June's leg; a sight that wrought a spontaneous laugh from the young man. When questioned about his name Ezra almost offered his old one in an automatic response, before pausing; almost contemplatively for a brief second. He was starting a new life, with a new identity. His old name had died with him at the dinner table in his old home... it didn't really make sense for him to carry that with him, no matter how sentimentally attached he was to it. Since getting his new documents he'd been pondering on a fitting name to take on, one that suited a new identity, a fresh persona. Of the unknown, but small number of wunderkinder that'd been retrieved from that nursery two decades ago, Ezra had no idea how many had already come of age, and been collected in the same manner he had. As far as he knew he was the first. A brief moment of inspiration struck him in that instant.
"My name's Adam, it's nice to meet you Chris." A bright, charming smile spread across his lips, and he offered the curious boy a wave of his hand. For a moment there he wondered if all of June's siblings were as boisterous as this one. He also wondered if June might clue in to the poetic, if a little obscure reference in his choice of name. He stepped around the tangled mess of body on the floor and offered a hand to June to help her up, motioning to the quaint home around them with a nod of his head. "Lovely place you have here June. Is uh... is your mother expecting my arrival?" She had mentioned that her mother knew about the wunderkinder and Project Eden. Given what she'd shared about her upbringing and their pairing, it felt like a safe bet to assume that this day was an anticipated one.

" Adam.. lame" June grumbled as she got up feeling the 'inspiration' from the source " Like.. Adam Warlock!" Chris ran into the other room fetching something with a loud commotion before returning with a Guardians of the Galaxy comic, an old edition, it feature the introduction of the superior specimen Adam Warlock. Irony was alive and well in the Mayweather house. " No sweetie like Adam first of his kind, fore bearer of humanity and hope of the world." A third person emerged from behind the door carrying two bags full of groceries. " Ah, I didn't think you'd be here so soon, June come help me." She radiated two simultaneous arua, a comforting maternal aura that Ezra had not felt while growing up, and a competent aura of command that only seasoned veterans of the armed services carried, one he was more familiar with from his father. " You are... Adam now yes?" Her speaking was aloof and completely casual but her intonation was very firm, when she spoke she did so with purpose and it was wise to list. " You've met June and Christmas, I am Mary named after the mother of Jesus herself, Mary Mayweather and welcome to my home." Mary handed Ezra-Adam the other bag of her groceries full of fruits and freshly cut meats. " Chop chop to the kitchen." She commanded and June complied nodding for Ezra to follow. " We'll play later Chris, right now momma and sister have work." June whispered and Chris pouted but gave a uniform military salute in understanding, this house was anything but normal. " Normally, I'd of set up a party for your... lets say home coming, it isn't every day a young man turns eighteen and finds his own way in the world." Mary once leading them to the kitchen without pausing began to chop up vegetables next to a boiling pot. " Sixteen years ago, no that's wrong, twenty years ago I was the head facilitator of the Eden Project along with Doctor Fried, the Director, and your father." She stopped cutting onions and casually pointed the bladed end of the knife at Ezra no intention to harm behind her actions not that such a thing could. " He was against it, initially, as any good Terminator worth their salt... salt.. Salt!" She spun around and almost slashed Ezra with the knife, perhaps intentionally, maybe just absentminded. " I need the salt it's in the pantry, right over there, be quick." Mary didn't ASK anyone anything she gave a command and you either followed or you suffered.

Adam couldn't help but grin a little wider at the excited boy and his beloved comic book. He had been a bit of a collector in the past too, a small, but unfortunate loss in the grand scheme of things. His attention was torn by an older voice behind him though; one full of soft maternal care, and an equal amount of diligent firmness as well. He offered her a softer, more polite smile and a nod. "Yeah... trying it on for size. Needed a bit of a change up after all that's happened." He barely had time to converse before a large bag of groceries was thrust into his arms. Though despite his lean physique, it barely seemed to phase him. Having been commanded to follow he hefted the groceries in one arm, offering Chris a playful smirk and a small salute of his own as he trailed in after Mary and June.
Setting the groceries down on a nearby counter, Adam mingled in the kitchen as Mary began to cook; soaking in the ambience, while simultaneously looking awkwardly out of place in his messy excuse for clothes. He listened intently to Mary's retelling of the past, about her connection to the Saints, Project Eden... and his father. Knowing that his father was initially against rescuing the Wunderkinder added a new layer of complexity to the spiderweb of his past. An unknown burst of clarity caught sight of the oncoming blade as Mary whirled about in front of him; and a burst of reactive speed led him to shift his weight back on his feet, enough to skirt the tip of the knife with an inch to spare.
"He didn't want to save me and the others?... Why? What made him change his mind?" June's cutting words during their meeting in the morgue had sown some heavy seeds of doubt in his mind. His whole upbringing had been a lie, a veil to keep him sequestered from the truth... his father had told him countless times how he loved him... June had said that was all a ruse, and that Captain Mulvaney was just following orders, playing a part in some grander machination. He didn't know what to believe. He did, however, automatically move to grab the salt for her as ordered. He'd grown up in a home where commands were more prevalent than requests, it had a comforting familiarity for him.

"What convinces a man to do anything?" Mary asked taking the salt. "The love of a good woman, my best friend actually Molly Shirkberger then now Molly Mulvaney" Mary smiled hearing that name stopping she reached into her pocket and took out a cigarette before holding it out between her fingers waiting for June to light it, which she did with almost coordinated precision. "We were both Scholars and had our eyes on Andrew when he was an up and comer.. my god how we fought like silly bitches." Mary laughed and took a long drag. "In the end, I made the wrong move, and Molly snatched him up then Icarus happened and we woke a sleeping dragon." Mary stared at her own reflection lost in her memories while cutting. "They came for.. you, your kind, your brothers and sisters, we tried to fight and they took some of us in return they got Molly." While recounting she accidentally cut the tip of her finger drawing her hand back in pain. "Ah."
The scent, was better than anything that was on the table, it drew Ezra-Adam to it like a moth to flame. It was an instinct gnawing at the back of his mind kicking at the door of his subconscious trying to take over it told him one thing and one thing only.

Adam felt a little conflicted, listening intently to Mary's story. In a way... deep down he was hoping that he was the reason why Captain Mulvaney had changed his mind about the wunderkinder... a reach at best, he felt like he was grasping at reasons to add legitimacy to his past bonds. He never really knew his mother Molly, she'd died when he was a toddler. At best he vaguely remembered when she had died, a flicker of a memory long past. Lost in his thoughts, as much as Mary was, he was snapped harshly back to reality by her yelp when she cut herself, and instinctively stepped forward, a mote of concern in his eyes. "Are you alright? I-..."
His voice trailed off a little at the sight of her blood, that piercing red drawing his gaze, drowning out the world around him. There was no describing this sensation, this.... hunger he felt, gnawing at the back of his mind. The world around him drifted out of focus, silenced by the thundering of a heartbeat in his ears. And the scent... it terrified him, he could smell her blood on the air from that tiny little cut, rich and intoxicating. "I... uh.." Utterly hypnotized by the draw of his buried instincts his gaze locked on her bleeding finger, with a near predatory focus, his breaths growing heavy and his skin palpitating. He caught himself reaching forward, and stepped back with a jerk; snapping himself into focus for a moment. Confusion, disgust and concern roiled in his face at the prospect of the thoughts creeping into his mind. There was nothing more tempting in this world than one little taste, a lick, a single drop of that sanguine treat before him. June's voice echoing the word 'Monster' drifted through his mind, kicking the rational remnants of his brain into high gear.
He needed to get away, even for a moment. To somewhere he could collect his thoughts and compose himself... somewhere with no blood to stir up this darkness inside him. He wrenched his gaze away from Mary and settled on June, an awkward, sheepish smile on his lips as he harmlessly scratched the back of his neck, and motioned to the duffel bag on his shoulder. "I-I should probably freshen up, get changed before we eat... Yeah. Can, can you point me towards the bathroom June?" Clearly a little shaken, it wouldn't be hard to surmise that his human sensibilities were contesting against the primal desires of his nature.

"Are you going to run every time someone cuts themselves?" June asked dismissively but she did as requested and escorted him to the bathroom leaving Mary to watch with a smile on her face. "Are you okay Ma'am?" Chris came into the kitchen and saw the blood but in his entire time alive he had never seen his mother cut themselves while cooking, so it didn't connect that it was her blood. "Yeah mommy just had to play a little trick on our new friend." Mary turned revealing a bag of blood concealed up her sleeve, a tube cut at the tip gently dripping onto the board. "Is that human blood?" Chris asked and Mary laughed shaking her head. "Cows." Mary went back to cooking wiping the board clean.
Up the stairs and to the right, after June's room which was locked for good reason, Ezra found the bathroom, it was an ordinary affair, a nice bowl of potpourri on the tank of the toilet, lime green show curtains with a tub full of bottles and soaps, it smelled nice. The scent of the lotions and potions helped drown out the tantalizing scent of the blood downstairs he could still smell it tingling in the back of his nose like a fine gourmet meal he just turned down. "You realize, hunting vampires, doing what we do, you're going to be encountering a lot of blood, human or otherwise." June said leaning against the door frame arms crossed. "Are you sure you're up to it?"

June's condescending question earned a bitter scowl in return, Adam couldn't find the words to respond how he felt was adequate... at least, not ones appropriate enough to say in front of Chris and Mary. He simply followed her lead deeper into the house. The revulsive chill in his core lingered until he was led into the upstairs bathroom, where the sweet musk of lotion and other fragrances drowned out the succulent aroma of the blood downstairs. For a brief moment he visibly relaxed, dumping his bag on the sink as he moved to set up the shower... only to freeze in the face of more needling questions.
All that frustration boiled to the surface in an instant, that rank scowl flaring up worse than before as he spun on his heels and glared daggers in her direction. "Of course I don't fucking know if I can! I can barely wrap my head around everything that's going on as it is!" Loud enough for the others to hear downstairs he completely unloaded on June, his voice choking with rage, and pain... equally as bewildered as he was royally pissed off. "Did you forget that my life has been completely fucking shattered in the last couple of days?! I. LOST. EVERYTHING!!! Everyone that ever knew me thinks I'm dead! The only person who ever told me they loved me shot me in the fucking head and disappeared!! I've only just learned that before I could even open my eyes some secret, fucking spy organization of goddamn vampire hunters has been keeping a fucking gun behind my head, to shoot me like a fucking dog if I ever put a toe out of line!"
Now up in her face, he towered over her, face flushed red with anger, his voice cracking hoarse under the burden of his screams. "My whole life was a fucking lie! I never even got to say goodbye to my dad before that bastard fucking abandoned me!! But you don't give a shit about any of that do you? I'm just a fucking science experiment for you to babysit after all! The only people who even know I exist either see me as a threat to be fucking terminated, or a tool to be kept on an air tight leash!"
Eventually his ire plateaued, the sheer overstimulation pushing him to tears as he struggled to find the words he wanted. "I... I didn't react out of fear down there. I could smell her blood... and it made me want to kill her. It made me so fucking hungry just being in the same room as it, I had to get out for her safety." With the waning of the adrenaline in his system, his haggard breaths steadied a little. A rich emotional turmoil still clouded his frustrated gaze as he stepped back into the bathroom and grabbed the door. "If you want my cooperation then teach me how to control all this bullshit that's fucking up my head, or find someone who can do that. If you're incapable of doing something as simple as that, then just get me a fucking gun and I'll save you and the saints the effort. I'd rather die than be a danger to others."
And with that, he abruptly slammed the bathroom door shut in June's face, with enough force to shake the hall she stood in. He'd said what he needed to say, vented his pain as best he could. The sound of muffled sniffling was quickly drowned out by the hiss of a shower turning on, a clear sign of his desire for solitude.

"Welcome to how Vampires live." June responded taking the berating. "One day you're normal, your entire life is fine then bam, everyone thinks your dead, an organization you know nothing about is trying to kill you if you step out of line, you have powers that make you go insane around blood, and you can barely control any of it.. now given this information do you think you could stop Vampires from feeding like you did, do you think YOU can TEACH that control to people afflicted with a worse malady than you who will never, ever, be close to human again?" Was this project Eden? Take half vampires and use them to train full vampires into living ethically, were the Saints trying to pull vampires into the waking world to co exist with humans instead of being a shadowy threat? It was all so much and it all rested on Ezra's shoulders. "That feeling of bitter resentment is what is keeping you human, Captain Mulvaney taught you to put others before yourself, that's what the Saints do and we lose a lot to do it, your mom, my aunt, your father, and eventually your life." June was stoic she was used to being the 'bad guy' she saw female vampires cry when they learned of their condition only to lash out at her, she'd been sympathetic before and almost got a pair of fangs to the neck for her troubles, no she wasn't a terminator, she wasn't a scholar, she was an agent the bridge between the dark and the light.
She let him have his solitude reporting his reaction to Mary who gave an approving nod.

Adam lost all sense of time as he washed himself, letting the roar of the shower thunder into his brain and the intense heat, cranked up to the max he could withstand, melt away all the stress that'd built up over the day. his lingering gave him time to take stock of everything that'd happened. He'd been betrayed by the people he loved, abandoned and left alone in the world... forced to take on a burden he was woefully unprepared for, and cursed not only with this freakish mutation... but also a threat of summary execution that he would carry for his entire life. It was a hopeless situation, and if he didn't have his training to fall back on, he likely would've decided to end it all right then and there.
The feeling that everyone he'd met so far was secretly against him definitely didn't help. Yes, they'd opened their home to him. But they'd done that out of duty, not compassion. That couldn't assuage the feeling that they feared him, what he could become. None of them had any interest in his mental state, beyond ensuring he wouldn't walk out into the streets and kill people. They had absolutely no interest in his grief, or his loss... He couldn't rely on them to support him in building his new life, that was a burden he had to carry on his own.
When he eventually returned, it would be alarmingly clear just how much that messy hospital gown and overcoat had hidden his looks. Now fresh and clean, and smelling amazing, the tight black shirt and sweat pants gave an impressive view of just how athletic he really was. The heavy wash of lotion he'd used was very intentional, a preventive measure to try and shield himself from the smell of blood he anticipated. Neither June nor Mary got much of any reaction out of him upon returning, he simply seated himself at the dining table and began pouring over his stack of paperwork to fill out. They would get what they needed out of him, the bare minimum. They'd made it pretty alarmingly clear that anything beyond that was unnecessary.
