ooc: Thread google doc backup docs.google.com/document/d/1WNCmNhGvzV_Sjt8HESJEljuSxTcg9KZcfIyTnDRIZlg/edit?usp=sharingWhile the walk was made longer by Serena actively engaging with people to mess with them in tandem with Grigg, they would eventually reach the bakery and head inside. "Ah, Lady Florema, and our number one customer" the head baker greeted them as they entered. It seemed he wasn't put off by Grigg at all anymore, in fact... he almost seemed happy to see the frog monster today. The baker had warmed to Grigg over their time here, slowly at first, but once he'd gotten used to Grigg's... everything... he began to genuinely enjoy the frog's patronage. He was an man who took pride in his craft and his skill, and getting to claim his baked goods were so good even monsters liked them was a heck of a perk... plus he'd been working on something special. "Well that's a surprise, you're the first one today to manage to greet us both politely without a hint of hesitation" Serena said in amusement "you've really gotten used to him huh?""Guilty as charged milady, and I've got a special surprise for him as well" the chef said, grinning as he went in back and brought out a tray with a... baked good on it. Grigg had created a cursed combination of treats back when they arrived, but it had nothing on this... thing... that seemed to be a fusion of every kind of treat the bakery offered, but instead of crudely smashing them together they were somehow weirdly cohesive as a singular item of food. It was insane, nobody would've conceived of this if not for Grigg's shenanigans, it was an abomination against food and baking... and it smelled delicious. "What am I looking... what is this..." Serena was at a loss for words "I took inspiration from the big guy's odd food fusion he has us make, to make an even better fusion! I call it the Omnitreat! It's the first of its kind" the chef said proudly

Well, if you count purely by mass, that is a true statement.
While the head chef being more amicable to the monster's shenanigans was a boon when it came to expediently picking up snacks on the way back home, it did mean that Grigg had started to run out of tricks to actually surprise the good gentleman. Sometimes he even found his japes endearing, that's unfair, only they got to decide who got to laugh at the end. Grigg would've sat down and been content with letting Serena talk shop while they scouted for some new patron to grief, but even before the man set off, the monster already had scampered to the counter, smelling for something...unique. Out of all the times the monster had come in peace to the bakery, it was only with Serena that they finally broke decorum, greedily reaching over to take this strange, almost offensive treat, squatting down and contemplating it silence.
What was that smell? Was it the mint? No, the chocolate, the cinnamon, the wildberries, oh that smelled like it was from Pulic. How could this happen? How could so many things be contained in such a diminutive space, yet retain their delicious waft? Most importantly, what were they doing sitting still oogling the damn thing, put it in your mouth, Grigg! As soon as this realization came through, the monster quite rapidly opened his mouth and swallowed it whole, standing there wide eyed. The monster tilted over from his mid-squat and slammed towards the back walk, skidding downwards as their throat purred with what sounded like a struggle to savor every single detail. Despite the alarming, paralyzing stupor, Grigg was fine, Serena could faintly hear the monster enumerate the ingredients through this elated groan, it was almost unthinkable, but were they...sated? The euphoria of finaly having their fill, if even for a fleeting moment had broken the monster to a slobbering vagrant. Grigg was never much for words, but they currently didn't have any, if anything, they would soon begrudge this man for making every further meal fall short for the rest of their existence.

"I uh... I think he liked it" Serena said, trying to hold back her laughter as Grigg reveled in this absurd treat to the point where she was considering trying one herself out of morbid curiosity.
"Good good! I spent many nights crafting the recipe, and now I can put them into production immediately! The whole world shall know of the Omnitreat! the baker said triumphantly, much to the dismay of his staff.
Serena tried to imagine a whole tray of these omnitreats sitting in a bakery window and was equal parts intensely amused, utterly horrified, and curious to just how well it would catch on... as it stood though Grigg may have just inadvertently pranked the whole world with his culinary nonsense if these things caught on.
"Guess I'll try one too... as well as a tray of everything else you've got. We're going all out tonight" Serena said "you can put it all on my tab, with a hefty tip for you all if you get it ready quickly."
The head chef was still more focused on reveling in his victory of satisfying Grigg so totally, but the promise of a tip on an order of "everything" got the rest of the staff into a frantic scramble to produce as many sweets as they could as quickly as possible. Such was the power of nobility and wealth, on full display for Grigg's entertainment to go with his meal.

Mass production, that sounded good, that way this recipe would outlive this man and Grigg could ensure they would always have access to this heretical piece of food.
Grigg hadn't figured out the formula in one go, but they were certain Serena wasn't going to like it as much. Perhaps it was still good for humans, hopefully, but to them, it was clear that being able to savor the whole spectrum at once was where the real experience laid, if anything, it just meant that it would end up being more food forhim. Grigg groaned lazily as they heard Serena speak, oh, she had more surprises for them, that's grand, he'll get up for that in a moment, certainly, time isn't real at the moment. Serena incited the grandest frenzy Grigg had witnessed since their arrival, ah, they wished they willed themselves up to see it, it was fine, they were still tall enough to observe the ruckus from here. The frog laughed as they tilted their head back ponderously, wondering if that was linden they tasted.

First and foremost, an omnitreat was presented to Serena, who bit into it after much hesitation. A range of facial expressions cycled through her face in rapid fire... before settling on confused enjoyment
"it's... well it's not my favorite thing... but I'm finding it hard to hate. I guess it actually might go worldwide" Serena said in utter bafflement. She had fully expected to hate it, and she felt like she still ought to... but the taste was just so confusing that it ended up somehow enjoyable "I'm not going to even try to comprehend how you made this though..."
"Well it's simple! you just" the man began
"Nope, don't wanna know, don't want to even try to understand it. Not another word out of you" Serena interjected, categorically refusing to try and comprehend this absurd pastry
The tray of pastries to roll back to the manor was filling up quickly, and two staff members had begun brawling over the limited amount of ingredients and tools available to make everything they were trying to create... resulting in both of them being slowed down and accomplishing very little other than making fools of themselves

Oh woe to poor humans, who do not have the faculties to taste the bliss of this masterpiece in its entirety.
Grigg turned face down and crawled up against the wall to right themselves up again, the euphoria was starting to fade, but they were indeed content in a way Serena had not seen before. It is, of course, not any exagerated physical drive that drives Grigg's gluttony, but a much baser impulse of savoring delicious things, perhaps a holdover from their much larger ancestors. It felt like there was nothing left for him to taste for the moment, they had communed with every flavor in the span of a second. They wouldn't even oogle the pastry Serena was hesitating to follow through, and were now able to take in the sights of a good old fashioned brawl. Damn, they missed the context through this elated spell, it only elevated the spectacle as the frog was free to try and connect the dots.
Grigg chortled, the stash was filling up quite nicely. Serena needn't worry it would go to waste, their newfound sense of humility wouldn't be short lived, but it was mortal altogether.

"Well if nothing else I know what to bribe you with from now on" Serena chuckled as she felt the waves of contentment coming off Grigg in the way only she could. It put a smile on her face, and she made a mental note to find a way to reward the head chef for his creating this abomination. She'd worry about that later though, for now she was more focused on the nearly full cart of goodies they were about to head out with.
Once the cart was full, and the two chefs were done fistfighting, Serena would produce a sack of coins to pay for the acquired goodies, and another more weighty sack which she produced coins, divvied up her tips to the staff members appropriately, and then provided everyone the biggest tip of their lives. The euphoria came from the bakery staff in waves, a nice compliment to Grigg's contentment for Serena.
"Well I think we've done everything we came here to do, now we can swing by the library and I'll pick up some books so I can teach you a bit about music while we eat." Serena said as she rolled the cart of goodies outside

Grigg mock-whined, Serena didn't bribe them often enough in the first place.
While the monster allowed Serena to push the cart outside, Grigg was quick to offer themselves as porter to move the goodies forward. It was convenient that the chef unlocked the secret to placating the frog, as maybe half of it would've arrived to the library otherwise. Grigg tilted their head as Serena said these things out loud, she must've sounded like a noble extentric to anyone that caught that past the bedlam inside of the bakery. In his experience, humans aren't as percetive as Grigg has calculated them to be, but it always pays to be careful. They hummed and shook their head side to side with so-so enthusiasm before pushing the cart along on their way, having hoped to spend their new stint of free time with Serena with something more exciting than reading. She promised it would be something different, they hoped it was something more interesting than learning more letters.

The trip to the library was mostly uneventful, with Serena simply getting a few books and loading them onto the cart, so before too long they'd be back at the manor, with a cart full of sweets and books. Serena had read one of the smaller ones on the way, and seemed to be picking up her old knowledge quickly
"Ok can you make a chalkboard or something I can draw on for you? I think that'll be the easiest way to show you how this works." Serena said

Cart hauling was somehow a more interesting experience than walking, though it was still apparent that Grigg was becoming quite impassive as they started to run out of weird ways of pushing it along. Grigg took a pekk at what Serena was reading on the way, and was quite unsuccesful at being discreet about it. Nope, they weren't going to try to puzzle it out, wheels were a bad start.
Back at the manor, the monster relaxed their posture and moved with much more poise, sitting down cross legged rather than on their froggy squat as some sort of empathic mimicry. Grigg gurgled as they recalled, they didn't think they could produce a chalkboard exactly, those are not the kind of things that they tend to consider adding to their repertoire of knickknacks, but there was one. Grigg placed their large hand on their mouth and pretended to rummage for a moment before retreiving a big, flat, red square, and handing it over to Serena. They looked at her with interest, they always wanted to see how these weird machines worked.
Given the likely possibility that Serena refused to teach them music on an Etch-A-Sketch, Grigg rolled their eyes with a groan and ran their left hand through their forearm, producing a sheet of gilded paper that took on its pale sheen as it peeled off from their skin, handing it to Serena with a pencil for her troubles.

Serena looked at the etch-a-sketch she was handed "I mean... I could use this in a pinch but..." she began, but then she was given paper "yeah this'll be easier"
Some quick drawing later, and she'd show Grigg the basic scales "so music writing works a bit differently, it's a bit more intuitive I think. Each line and space between them represent a different note. You don't even actually need to know what the names of the notes are to read it, just how they relate to each other"
Serena would play a note on the piano, then draw in the corresponding note on the scale "that sound is this spot, and then from there each spot is a little bit higher in pitch, like so..." she'd play the next few notes "so basically it's just telling you whether the music goes higher or lower, and in what order you do that. There's a couple symbols to teach telling you how long to play a note and stuff, but all in all there's less complexity than reading words"
Serena would quickly draw a series of notes, then play on the piano a short little tune that was pretty common in Fortis, and so had likely been heard before by Grigg. It was pretty simple and demonstrated the concept. "And... that's the basics there, higher on the scale means higher pitch, lower means lower... and there's these symbols for how long you hold the note... and then you just follow the script from left to right and you've got a song. And you can write music of your own the exact same way. There's some more advanced stuff we can go over, but with these basics you can play most songs you have the sheets of, and write down anything of your own you make."
It was a very simplistic and reductive explanation, but Serena figured Grigg didn't want to get into music theory or anything fancy. He probably just wanted to play music, and this was all he really needed for that... especially since the tools he could create with his powers 'just worked' and could probably just produce the sounds Grigg wanted without having to learn to play each one properly.

Serena makes it all sound so easy, but what's a note? It sounded like that kind of thing that they always keep in mind but never think about, like gravity, or strength, or tension, all of those make a lot less sense when they're on a spreadsheet and multiplied as if they were numbers.
The frog followed along, seeming quite eager to sing a reprise of the Fortisian jingle. Fortunately they knew this one, as they clearly squinted at the weird lines a circles, did they had to reverse engineer the whole thing? Grigg approached the piano and held the first note (notes are the letters of music, alright, fair), they lost track of which one it was by Serena's instruction, so they just went up until they found it, pressing down the key perpendicularly with their index nail. The next one was in the middle, what, this one was on the line, so that meant it was two, no, three notes ahead. They attempted to press it and then press the other one with the same finger, but that just sounded wrong, it ended too early, did they also have to hold it or else it stopped making noise?
The frog did a lot of counting and a lot of looking back and forth, starting to build the pattern from memory. Of course, it didn't helped they were using a piano from someone whose hands were half their size, and plenty of notes were fumbled along the way, including those black ones that they didn't even know made noise. It was odd seeing Grigg struggle at something, in fact, why were they struggling? They're more dexterous with their extraneous senses, and yet the piano was still clean of gold as they continued to try and get it right for once with their cramped hands.

"You're actually doing better than I did at my first lessons" Serena chuckled as she watched Grigg struggle a bit with playing the music, she wouldn't just sit and let him suffer though. "you're starting to get the gist of it though... also... can't you use your gambar to help you play? This instrument was designed for someone with hands like mine, trying to play it with yours is bound to be tricky... but maybe if you coat the keys you can just control them that way, then you won't have to worry about hitting the wrong ones because they're too small for you."
Serena would look around for other instruments that might be better suited for Grigg if this plan didn't work... maybe the violin? It was harder to learn to get the notes out but would be less cramped... trumpet was out for now... though Grigg would probably love how loud and obnoxious it could be. It wasn't designed with his mouth shape in mind though so making any noise with it would be impossible... she made a mental note to get one designed for him as a gift someday. He'd love tormenting people with trombones and trumpets...

"Ghrrieg", Grigg agreed that they could do it, then continued to keep trying anyways, perhaps if they used both of their index digits, it would be easier. They didn't need their other hand, right, some people do this crazy thing of playing two different parts on the.
Grigg would pause for a moment, expecting Serena to not be satisfied by the answer.
The frog leaned in on the keys absentmindedly and flinched away from them as they pressed no less than 3 full scales at once. They then very carefully closed the lid on the keys and leaned in again. "srgggg?", Grigg wanted to know if Serena would 'find that interesting'. For the monster, it was a foregone conclusion that, with this understanding, they could play the piano through telemetry, they had plenty of time on their own to do that, to perfect that, and to plan some sort of big performance for her even, but if he did that, then they would probably be here for all of ten minutes and call it a day, it didn't sound like much of an outing, unlike the reading excercise that was much more reliant on the only known monster interpreter in the continent. Grigg tilted their head and groaned, asking of Serena if she 'wanted to teach them' or if she 'wanted them to know'.

Serena took a moment to process what Grigg was saying, then smiled "ah, I should've known there was a reason you weren't already doing that. You're right, that WOULD be too easy for you huh?" she said, shaking her head at herself "there I was going and thinking about everything in terms of solving problems again."
Serena would grab another music book and flip it open to a new lesson "I'd love to teach you more, plus who knows, maybe it'll help me relearn this stuff too and we could play together sometime. I'm sure that'd make for an interesting sight. A Queen and a monster playing music together." she said, notably she was referring to herself as a queen now, showing a newfound confidence in her upcoming victory "heh, even better, we can do it at the coronation celebration in front of all the nobles. We might make some of them faint with a stunt like that. Unlike the soldiers here, they won't be used to you after all."
