OOC: Source Thread coloholics.boards.net/thread/475/teacher-offices-shadow-doubt-closed?page=1&scrollTo=2352__________________________________________________________IC: Nocturne awaited for the student in front of the Ryuujin manor. The quirked detective duo would sit in their car for a bit, hanging their head out the window to talk to Nocturne. "Sure she's gonna show up? It's getting kinda late...' Tatsuki spoke. Tendo would double on top of that statement. "Yeah, you're pushing it for a kid who ain't even one of us, yet?""And, she won't be. She favors King and would like an internship with him. I'm doing this out of personal concern as a teacher, not as a recruitment opportunity. She seems far too soft, I need to test her metal." He wouldn't realize it, but Rouge and her side kicks were leaving the mansion and approaching. The arachnid hero caught the tail end of the convo but knew enough to say her piece. "I can understand that, but I would've preferred you not give the rest of the kids off. I really like Serena." She'd pout before launching her into the skies. Her sidekicks Kage and Uma would break out into a sprint after her. Most of the dusk agency's shifts were at night For interns, it was 7pm-11pm on a school night, for staple members it was a tiring 8pm-4am. Nocturne was giving Emily a mere taste... a 9pm-1am shift. Tendo would start the car. "Yeah, Rouge's right. Why couldn't the others come? It's not even a school night. You keep inviting these kids into internships, and get mad at us when we get attached...""Because I've set up a mock villain battle for her. I thought I told you about that in the briefing email..." The dusk hero glared, unaware his emails were a job to read in their own right, long, detailed, and dry. Tendo would slowly reel the windows up, and drive the suv off into the city lights. Everyone was instructed to keep the patrol lanes wide, that way this mock battle could seem realistic. Emily of course would receive no email, and he didn't breif the students on things they weren't apart of. So this was the perfect recipe in Yoo's mind. But also... it's not like they'd come anyway. Did he even have any interns left? So there Yoo stood, waiting. It was nearly 9pm, just like they'd agreed upon.

Emily had spent the entire week psyching herself up for this. She had never gone out on patrol before. Not like this. Those times with Gramps didn't count. She had practically been a kid. But now she was seventeen! That wasn't kid-aged! And she was going to be teaming up with Nocturne, the Dusk Hero! The stakes couldn't be higher!
That attitude had changed after the breaking news bulletin. Emily was at a loss for words. If it wasn't for the evidence that was aired on national television, she never would have believed that a Pro Hero - a member of the Top Ten, at that - would be capable of such a thing. She hadn't spoken to anyone about it... though her Gramps knew that she was patrolling with him tonight. He was the first person that she had shared that news with, after all. And why wouldn't she? It was a big deal at the time. It still was... but, more importantly, Emily had made a commitment. Kramers honored their commitments.
Emily arrived punctually at the provided address, a couple of minutes before 9 P.M. Her Bulwark Quirk was already active. Emily had made use of the rooftops in her Transformed state to get here, rather than rely on automobile transportation or simply walking. She knew how urban traversal was supposed to work... though, doing so under duress of a full suit of armor had proven to be a lesson learned on the spot. The girl looked a little winded, though no less ready for whatever they might deal with tonight.
The fully suited 2-A student had landed in a nearby alley as quietly as possible (which, given how the fire escape disagreed with her, wasn't that quiet) before walking out to the front of the building where Nocturne was waiting. She nodded at the man as she approached, then rested one of her axe's blades against her collarbone with a proud clink. "I'm ready, Nocturne-sensei. How does this work?"

With the crew dispersed, Nocturne would check his watch once more. It was almost that time... As if on cue, a distinct metal clanging could be her as a certain young hero made her way down the fire escape. He'd chuckle and shake his head, greeting her with a half bow, and smirk. "I hope it wasn't too much trouble getting here." He'd pointed to where he heard the sound coming from. She did well enough to show up on time. In fact, she was here roughly ten minutes early. He couldn't complain. He'd take a moment to scan the area before saying anything.
"Thank you for coming... given what's been shown." Like Atsushi and Flynn, there were still kids that had faith in him. It was a comforting thought. Being the slightest bit sentimental would deter him from the task at hand. Shizuoka was a sizeable city. Some parts were sleepy and quiet, other parts were bustling with distinct nightlife. In the same Strive was the symbol of peace for Japan, Nocturne was such for his own city. At least until the news hit. Crime spiked quite a bit since the news. The yakuza that used to fear him began flaring up and becoming more bold. Crime in general seemed to be flaring up from top to bottom. He'd have to deal with this issue with or without support. With or withou- he'd paused from his rapid-fire train of thought, his eyes honing back in on Emily or rather Iron Maiden.
"I'm sure every hero has their methods, but this is how my agency does things when we aren't on a specific case. " He'd open his phone, and send Emily a map. The map itself was synced with the dusk agency and had icons of the members' faces. Tendo and Tatsuki had a rather small area of influence, but they made up for it by being in their dusk agency squad car. Rouge's area of influence was quite big since she led a 3-man unit with Kage and Uma. At the bottom of the screen were the faces of her fellow classmates, though their icons were blurred due to not working tonight. The largest area of influence was the icon showing Nocturne's face. "We'll be covering this portion. Though with my family's mansion being in the middle, we can consider this a safe zone. It only extends for a few blocks, so if we look at where the others are covering, it will almost look like the streets are lanes to follow. By the time you reach the end of a lane so should another agency member. From there you just follow the next open lane, leaving no blind spots. " Much like Nocturne's motto of heroing ergonomically, this patrol setup was painstakingly detailed yet efficient and simple when put into practice. Essentially as long as one followed the lanes in a timely fashion, each sector of the city would be looked over twice throughout the night if not three times.
"I'd like to know how much experience you've had with patrols. It will give me insight into how much space to give you. Can I trust you to handle a few blocks at a time before I check in on you?" Yoo had no qualms with giving students leeway in his agency. Real world experience was the only way for them to accel at a faster pace. He'd be there if there was a need for help or questions. Outside of that, Yoo was willing to give Emily to real time as a hero.

Emily remained silent during Nocturne-sensei's debriefing. Attentive, even. Though Emily's Quirk masked her body language, there was no mistaking the resolve about the girl as she conisdered the man's words. Emily had never done anything like this before, and Nocturne-sensei, for all his faults, knew what he was talking about.
...
But he did have faults.
"Before we continue, Mister Nocturne-sensei, I think I should be candid. I do not think less of you for what happened, but... I did consider, for a moment, not coming tonight. Hearing you describe it as "what was shown", and not "what I did"... Do not get me wrong, I am glad that I am here. If I want to become a Pro Hero, I need to keep my word, even if something happens that shakes my faith. I just thought that you should know that."
After that, Emily lets out a long, heavy breath. That had been festering in her chest for a long time. She hoped Nocturne-sensei would take it in stride. She had a feeling he understood where she was coming from, but someone like her would always worry that she was being too forward. This was one of U.A.'s most prominent faculty, and a member of the Top Ten at that.
"As for patrols, I... I do not know if I have real experience. When I would follow my Gramps as a kid, it was mostly to watch. I dunna ken the ins and outs of it. I just saw the scraps. But, a few blocks makes sense, from what yer sayin'. How long should I be spending on each block? I'm, uhh..." Emily fidgeted in place. Her armor made some faint and some not so faint noises as the Quirk metal moved with her. "Not the fastest lass."

Yoo smoothed his hair back to correct any fine hairs from defying his will. Stress? No. Perhaps annoyance. Seemingly every student had a masterful opinion of something they had only just started. Though his expression hadn't changed, the darkness around him seemed more prominent, if only for a moment. A free hand would lift his katana an inch only to slam it back, the resounding clink was a satisfying one. In that single instant, the darkness subsided. Though his expression didn't change, his eyes depicted melancholy. As much as people were going to harp on this, a life was a life. It was a fact he couldn't change. He knew that far better than anyone, just as much as he understood the despairing fact that results were results. He'd forever choose decisions that he thought would lead to results. He lead his whole career on that simple principle and wasn't going to change it. A man who brought Shizuoka to peace, when so many cities fluctuated so heavily with waves of crime. If his methods were wrong... was he fit to be a hero? He certainly didn't feel like an appropriate teacher... the hiatus was a testament of the sensation he was feeling. He was a hero of an old era... Maybe he was outdated and just holding on to prestige. Still, he'd speak one truth to Emily. One he'd be grinding his nose against since this situation started. " Experience will teach you plenty of things. Whether student, teacher, or pro hero. One never stops learning, as everything is for the sake of moving forward. " How was he to move forward from this? The young hero had passionate eyes, and a hunger for success. Compared to his, his own were dark pools. Even in his younger years, they always were. He had the same hunger, and passion, but his vision was always darker. He'd never leaned into it. Was he supposed to? Mmm... "It's okay if you go slow. You'll learn a lot by people-watching. The most important thing is to understand what's in front of you. If a woman gets her purse stolen, whats the shortest path to stopping the robber? Can you spot sticky fingers before they reach to snatch something? It's things like these you should be looking for and thinking about. " He'd say before reassuring her. "I won't be far."

Emily took Nocturne-sensei’s words quietly, carefully. There wasn’t much more to be said between them before this patrol got started. She didn’t have any questions for him, and he had imparted his advice to her. She could not pretend to know what was going on in the Dusk Hero’s mind, but she could guess. He must be going through a lot. But, that wasn’t what either of them were here for tonight. It was time to prove herself!
Emily started down her lane. She kept to Nocturne-sensei’s advice, taking things slow. She wasn’t sure if she could be so vigilant as to identify criminals before they had committed any crime (which sounded a lot like something she had seen on the telly back home, come to think of it…), but she was ready to do her best. Since she was Transformed, Emily kept to the rooftops for now, looking down below. She couldn’t mask the sound of her armor, but it was a little more subtle than a giant suit of armor ambling down Yamagato Avenue in the dead of night.

Her patrol would go well. Taking to the rooftops was a solid touch... though it probably wasn't so nice for the people living beneath her heavy stomps as they passed through the area. According to Nocturne's explanation of the block system, someone would be intersecting paths with the young hero, but that time would never come. Perhaps she was taking too long. Since Nocturne was known as a super-efficient hero, the rest of his agency likely followed suit behind that example. She likely was only a few minutes behind intersecting blocks but that was to be expected. Nocturne said he would be close, didn't he? In a nearby alley way, the was an incredible ruckus. Someone getting thrown into a trashcan by the sounds of it. Three guys getting beat up by someone in strange gear. White robe bottoms with a more modern button-down shirt, and authentic samurai padding along his shoulder. A modern day ninja? A yakuza member for sure. With Nocturne around, Yakuza dealings were incredibly hush hush in Shizuoka. Seemingly Emily struck gold. With the three gentleman beaten and bruised, the ninja almost instantaneously reappeared along the rooftops edge. "This ain't your turf, girl." He snarled. He leaned into his right arm that was already supporting him, and pushed himself into a handstand before flipping back upright. Agile? Yes. Quiet? Scarily so. Fast? Very. And his quirk? It was hard to tell. It was a bit like Nocturne... the dark was this man's friend. Legal Name: ? Alias: ? Quirk Name: ? Picture: Notable Achievements: Obviously Yakuza, but hard to figure any other details out.

Was this what patrolling was usually like? Emily could get used to this. It was quiet - armor Quirk aside - and not much seemed to be happening. Actually, nothing was happening. That meant that the villains were taking the hint, right? Emily's instincts warned her that it was the very opposite. It almost certainly meant that something was happening. It was only a matter of time until she found out what.
It wasn't long. As soon as Emily noticed what was happening, she went stock-still. She was at a position where she wouldn't need to move to get a better glimpse of the scene down below. A guy was taking on three people and wasn't breaking a sweat. What was actually going on here? Was he Yakuza? Someone else? This sure didn't feel like a random act of violence. On the other hand, her Gramps had warned her against making snap judgments out in the field. You had no idea what you might be walking into, even if it may look obvious at first. The girl took an active stance, metaphorically steeling herself - her axe hadn't been drawn yet - for this stranger who had made her. Given her Quirk, she wasn't too surprised by that... but she was surprised by how quickly he had made it up here. How much of that had been his Quirk?
"It is tonight." She pointed her helmet down slightly, enough for the din of metal and her own body language to indicate that she was gesturing to the alleyway below. "Let's not beat around the bush. What was that about, eh?"

Jogo raised an eyebrow. Perhaps she was trying to be cautious, or maybe she was too naïve to understand what he meant. "Guess you didn't hear me." He said while sliding his hand into his sleeve and pulling out a multiple black balls. There were many indicators to what they were, but he held three of them between his fingers. "Don't you know the Yakuza resides in this city. It's proper you pay your due respect." Impressively, he paid no respect to heroes. He'd ignored her question completely. In the other hand, needles appeared between his fingers. He threw the needles at an impressive speed, but he knew it likely wouldn't do much against this armor of hers. If he could find weak spots with these alone, then defeating her would be that much easier.
The man's body seemingly seeped into the ground as the needles got closer. In a second or so later, he erupted from the ground high into the air. He was waiting for an opening to pelt her. The black balls were actually weights, 12lbs each. She wouldn't know what hit her until they did. He'd wait to launch them. How she reacted was important.
