Their reactions helped Hal slip more comfortably into the role of a performer in front of his fans even if they were pressing in closer than he would normally have liked, and his smile even grew a little wider as Bonnie introduced him by his actual name. He tried to make sure every child got at least one piece of candy, and with all the little hands everywhere, that was not as easy as it might seem even for someone who had tried to train himself to be observant. But he was fairly sure he managed to distribute it fairly evenly regardless, until it was all gone and of course, children being children, they were clamoring for more.
He stood up completely straight for a moment and tapped a finger to his chin in an exaggerated pretense of deep thought. "I think I can find a little more candy in this old hat," he declared, his hand dropping into the hat again, stirring around for a few seconds as if fumbling through a bit of a mess, before pulling out a small bag of more assorted candies that had only just been manifested this time, though he had still tried to keep them all of similar sizes to the previous batch when describing them in his notebook right next to the other entry in his notebook. "Aha! The last of my secret stash!" he declared as he held it up high, still keeping himself to that stage magician persona while also trying to make it clear there wasn't going to be any more after this. Not today, anyway.
As he began to pass the contents of the bag out, again making an effort to distribute them evenly, he glanced directly at one of the kids he was pretty sure had asked for something more specific, and gave them a wink and an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, I couldn't find any pocky in my hat. I'll make sure it's stocked with more variety next time, ok?" He hadn't thought to include more specific items like that. Perhaps getting an idea of what each kid liked would be in order for next time he handed out sweets. To the rest of the kids, he said, "The spell that made these won't last long, so be sure to enjoy them soon!"
When he was sure each child had gotten some more, he turned to Bonnie, with his hand up, four small candies each of a different color in his palm that he would be sure to keep away from any more little, grabbing hands, and if any did, he'd wave an admonishing finger at them and click his tongue in a playfully scolding manner. "Would the lovely Little Chef like a few? I saved some fruit-flavored ones, I was careless and forgot to ask what you would like the most before the rest of them were gone. I have a cherry flavor, a watermelon, grape, and an apple." He was starting to think, maybe he could get used to treating things like this, he was starting to enjoy the performance. Perhaps acting the performer could be how he interacted with the public at large once he started going out more in his hero costume. He'd tried for a long time to figure this thing out, it had been bugging him forever. Definitely something to think about later when he had a little time alone to contemplate.
