Camille watches with satisfaction as her barrage dispels the silt and overwhelms her opponent's defences. He was fairly resilient though—at least so she thought, until he seemed to have used up all his energy and was overcome with... Aggressive mutations. She winces at the sight, dispelling her radiance as a familiar person shows up and begins running his mouth.
She smirks at Xir. <Ever the flatterer, aren't you?> She remarks sarcastically. <Worry not, my power is still in its infancy. I'm sure I'll be more entertaining by the time I'm finished thwarting your little coup attempt in Fortis,> She responds confidently. <Feel free to keep sending scathing remarks my way, I once feared you but now your attempts at trying to make me waver are simply... Cute,>

"Oh this is not about making you waver. Credit where it is due, your resolve has proven admirable despite your beginnings. No I'm quite done trying to intimidate you." Xir said with a chuckle "you're doing more than enough for me as you are. Honestly, I ought to thank you, if you weren't so defiant, and hadn't spent so much time preparing to fight me. I might've had a much harder time of things."
Xir chuckled again, a dark thing, and possessed of the confidence that one had already won a game... though the other players hadn't seen it yet. "but I'm sure your infant powers will carry you through, at least long enough to watch everything else burn first. Enjoy your victory today little snake. I'll be seeing you again soon enough... and do what you like with the failure. Let it not be said I do not honor my deals, he followed his orders and achieved his purpose. His soul is free, though... I'm sure that is little comfort to him now"
With a cruel laugh, the shadow of Xir faded away, leaving the mass of twisted flesh behind as the corrupted energies slowly faded from it.

Camille waves the shade of Xir farewell as they say their piece. <Farewell for now. We'll see who ends up burning first,> She says, before glancing to the mass of flesh. She decides to grab it, her monstrous strength having little difficulty moving them as she swirls her way back to shore. She tosses the mass onto the beach and slithers aground, starting to strain the water from her hair as she thinks about her next move. The fact Xir was able to get someone into the fortress worried her. She had thought Xir would leave this insurmountable place well enough alone and simply wait for her to leave its safety, but it seems this place is not nearly as safe as she thought it was. She must warn people posthaste.

And there would be plenty of people to warn, as the fight in the port waters had certainly not gone unnoticed. Numerous squads of soldiers were at the ready as soon as she emerged from the water, and it was only by sheer luck that the ones manning the defensive turrets recognized that it was her and not a new monster... albeit barely due to her new appearance. Had she been less fortunate, she may have emerged only to have the upper half of her body removed from her and spread evenly into the water. As it was some more trigger happy soldiers fired at her on reflex before being made to stand down, her scales could take it, but it wouldn't be pleasant.
"What the hell is going on!" one of the ranking officers said as he rapidly approached her, both to speak with her better and to ward off any further misfires in her direction "the whole port is in an uproar! Explosions in the bay, and now you're here with a new form and a flesh... bag... thing... what IS that?"
The mass of flesh that was once a man gurgled as if in response, but clearly he was too twisted up to function right now. Left to his own devices, he would likely die before too long.

Camille gasps in surprise as a few shots hit her scales, cracking a couple as she instinctively coils up defensively. Once the officer walks up and asked her what happened she answers quickly. "This lump of flesh was my opponent—a spy. He was exceptionally skilled at hiding, easily avoiding notice and piercing the defences of this fortress. Only by sheer luck did I notice him and gave chase. It ended up in the water where..." That's when she realizes. She was able to swim and breathe in the water, and the officer mentioned a new form?
She quickly conjures a mirror to look at herself. She gasps in surprise at what she saw—she looked so much different! Her body had become more slim and streamlined, with long frills along the sides not too dissimilar to an eel, with multiple fins trailing along the backside, presumably aligned with her spine. Her scale colouration had also shifted to be an aquamarine colour and seemed to be waterproof now. Was her body also longer now? She turns her head and notices more frills in her hair and her ears also looked like a sea creature's. Finally she notices the gills on her neck, though they blended in to her skin well.
"Well then, that's new," She says. Focusing on her body a little she shifts the scales back to their regular orange and her frills fold against her body, causing her to look more like her regular snake self barring the fins. Then she glances back to the officer. "I need to speak with Karl as soon as possible. I suspect this is just the beginning," She says. She glances to the blob of flesh. They likely wouldn't survive long, but she doubts there's much that can be done. She likely can't extract any information from him either. Oh well, flying blind is in vogue anyways.

"Bloody hell, we'll tighten security, make sure nobody else sneaks in the man said "I'll send word ahead of you about the situation, and get... that thing... to a medical bay, see what can be done. Pretty sure I see a... mouth? I hope that's a mouth... it's a long shot but we'll try an interrogate it and keep it alive. Fuck... this was a person? What the hell are we getting into these days..."
The man and several other soldiers would load Camille's opponent onto a stretcher and rush it to a medical wing. A futile gesture really, unless anyone could shape and change the man's flesh back to normal. At most they could keep it on life support... still in absence of any better intel on what he was doing here they had to try.

Camille nods. "Good, I'm going to go speak with some of the other notable names in the fortress as well. Anderson especially,"
Speak of the devil, Anderson ends up arriving shortly after. "Camille! What happened?" He looks her up and down. "And... What happened to YOU?"
Camille chuckles nervously. "So I may or may not have accidentally evolved for the first time whilst fighting a new threat. I learned a few troubling things throughout the fight, I want to gather multiple important people to discuss what I've learned,"
Anderson opens his mouth to ask more questions, but then eventually nods. "Alright. I'm guessing word is already reaching Karl so I'll go round up some of the other big names like Lexi and Phil. Where are we convening?"
"The throne room, it seems apt and also the most secure area," Camille says, to which Anderson nods and hurries off.
Camille found her way to the throne room, admiring her new form as she traveled. With her body being more slimmed up, slithering around was faster. She still wasn't nearly as nimble as she was on two legs, but she feels like she could do some proper maneuvering in battle now—especially in water. She did feel exhausted, but she supposed undergoing massive physical transformations tended to do that. She'd likely not be the first person to arrive there but Anderson was definitely still out gathering the troops.

It didn't take long for all the big names of the Bulwark to gather, the commotion at the port had already gotten them out of their daily routines and braced them for an attack, gathering them together didn't take much traveling.
"So what's this about then" Serena said as she took a seat on the throne, she was in full regalia now, her mystical armor softly glowing with power. The others took up positions around her, Anderson being her personal aide would be positioned close to the throne, but off to the side, and the Bulwark's commander Karl would also be by the throne on her right hand side. Others, such as Kem, Daniel, and other high ranking soldiers and powerful warriors on their side, would be on either side of Camille. With everyone gathered like this, it did seem like a royal court with a Queen at the head. "I know you didn't throw the place into high alert on a whim..."

As people took their places Camille nods, resisting the urge to smile at the sight of Serena sitting regally upon the throne. She really did look like a queen in the making. She takes a deep breath and then speaks. "Indeed, multiple troubling revelations have happened," She starts. "I will start by saying that this fortress is likely not going to remain peaceful for too much longer. There was a spy—a man exceptionally skilled in the art of stealth. He had an aura that let him bypass the senses of almost everyone. I only managed to notice him because of his corruption, but I suspect he would've been able to sneak past most of the people in this room barring some of the most spiritually keen such as Anderson or Lexi," She explains. "He seemed to be performing some kind of sabotage with dark powers, which makes me strongly believe an attack is imminent,"
She takes another breath. "But obviously there's more. I followed him into the water where I engaged him in battle. He... Mutated, into an aquatic creature and could telepathically speak to me like a monster would. He revealed that Xir has been experimenting on people. He said that while a monster may not be able to convincingly look like a human, if you give a human the ability to turn into a monster at a moment's notice... It's basically the same thing. I was apparently his first test subject on that front with that little snake curse," She says. "It was a grotesque defilement of nature, and I am absolutely certain we'll be facing more of these mutated humans as time goes on,"
"Finally I am sure that the attack will be coming sooner rather than later. I think it's no coincidence this is happening while Kem is elsewhere. We do not know how many people Xir has on the inside of this place or how much he knows about its layout and defences. This place is seemingly insurmountable, but if he has humans that can grow gills, an army may very well just rise out of the sea and march up through the docks,"

Serena sighed and held her head "It's always something. Karl you've vetted everyone stationed here yes?"
Karl nodded "Yes Ma'am, every soldier here has been thoroughly confirmed to never have used the incense, and where possible we made sure they didn't have any ties to those who had. Between that and Lady Camille's ability to sense corruption, I think we can at least reliably say none of our own will be transforming into monsters. Still, we'll rotate our formations and patrols, throw off any intel that's leaked. And we'll keep a closer eye for any signs of sleeper agents."
"that's something then, but it raises the question of what this spy was doing, and if it was the only one. If we can be reasonably sure our own troops aren't going to morph into monsters on us, maybe an army rising out of the sea is exactly what is about to happen" Serena mused "We'll close the seagates and brace for a siege, no ships in or out until we know more. Sweep the docks again and inspect every crate of cargo that's come in too, wouldn't be the first time I've met a monster that could disguise itself as objects. From this point on we're going to act like there's an army at our doorstep."

Camille nods. "Best to be as safe as possible. I'll double check around the fortress for any corruption I can find. Hopefully things will turn out okay,"
Anderson scratches his chin. "Launching a full-scale assault on one of the most heavily fortified places in the world seems odd to me. We'll need to leave this safety box eventually, why not gets us then?"
"Could be opportunism because Kem is not here—could also be for morale reasons too. If Xir manages to conquer the Bulwark, what chance does anybody else have?" Camille says. "Plus, the man has a massive ego, so taking this fortress as his is also a display of power to stoke the flames of his pride,"

"I don't know either. And that concerns me, egotistical people are prideful and vail, but Xir isn't stupid. He wouldn't attack this place if he couldn't win... but this place has never fallen to an invading army before... even in eras where our weapons were far less powerful... Even supposing an army could approach from the sea. We'd be able to detect it in advance. The sea gate might be marginally more vulnerable than the rest... but" Serena said, scratching her head and trying to think things through "the forces he'd need to take this place by force from a one pronged assault are absurd. To even stand a chance he'd have to have us surrounded and split our attention to a battle on all sides."
Serena let out a frustrated grunt "ugh, the how doesn't make any sense, but the why is obvious. Apart from his ego I mean. Here in the Bulwark is a collection of almost every enemy Xir has in Fortis. You, Me, a bunch of high ranking and powerful legionaires, Daniel, every uncorrupted uncompromised solider we could reassign to guard it, the Tellemanus family. Apart from the King himself most everyone who is aware of and opposed to Xir has gathered here. If he can wipe us out here before we can disperse back through the country to act against him, he's all but won."

Camille nods. "He obviously knows something we don't," She says, before scratching her chin. "With my newfound aquatic abilities I might start patrolling the waters around the Bulwark to see if I can spot anything unusual,"
Anderson immediately shakes his head. "Absolutely not. While you are a worthy fighter, you would be extremely vulnerable out there. You can't take an army on your own,"
Camille glares at Anderson. "Obviously I wouldn't start a fight if I see the enemy, I would return to shore and warn everyone,"
"And if they end up making the first strike?" Anderson asks pointedly.
"I can handle myself! We need all the information we can get and I am not going to sit back and avoid personal risk just because it might be dangerous," Camille shoots back.

Serena looked between the arguing Anderson and Camille, mulling over what the best course of action was. Both of them made valid points here, Camille was one of the only ones who could move freely underwater to try and detect whatever was coming, and that seemed like the best place to search considering where she'd found the infiltrator. But leaving her undefended was too risky, she was one of the most high-value targets in this fortress with her pale powers. They couldn't afford to lose her now...
"A compromise then. Camille can patrol underwater with a few smaller more agile vessels that can keep pace with her patrolling on the surface. That will give her some support if things go wrong and give her an escape route above the water, then the ship can make a break for it back to safety while the others buy time." Serena concluded "Your top priority in any combat scenario is to escape Camille, regardless of if you have to leave every supporting soldier behind. You're too important to the war against Xir to risk you in a front line fight. At least not without good cause."
Serena glanced to Anderson "Since you're so concerned for her safety, I'll leave arranging the details to you. See if you can put together some squads to man the support ships, if we've got anyone capable of underwater combat we can send them along. You need to let Camille spread her wings..." she said, then glanced to Camille as if to check to make sure she did not literally have wings right now "and that's going to come with risk. You won't be able to shield her forever, not in the times we're living in now."
Serena cracked a smile "besides, do you think you could keep Camille of all people in a golden birdcage sheltered from all risk even if you tried? With how willful she is? Better to support her when she goes off to take risks, that's at least achievable."

Liam seems to hesitate as Serena provides her own insight into the matter. He seemed ready to argue but eventually just sighs. "Understood. I'll ask around and get together a few crews," He responds.
Camille conversely immediately crosses her arms. "You seriously expect me to just... Leave them to die?"
Liam would cut in at that. "It doesn't quite work like that, Camille," He says. "It's difficult to explain to a Pulician since most soldiers there are mercenaries or hired guards that are in it for themselves, but in Fortis to fight and die for your country is one of the highest honours a person can have. If the worst comes to pass, those men and women will pass on happy knowing they sacrificed themselves to protect one of humanity's greatest assets. If you try to save them and end up dying as well, their sacrifice will have been in vain,"
Camille pouts as she listens to his explanation. "But..."
"I know it's not easy, Camille, but remember that they signed up for this. They're doing their job, and you need to do yours,"
Camille finally relents. "Okay, fine... If they come I'll flee. But don't expect me not to blast a few of them on my way out,"
