"Oh like you ain' guilty of bein' a show-off, Mr. Power Wheels! I could hear ya engine from a mile away! An' so could probably ev'ryone down there! Now 'dose goons might know we're 'ere!"
She even pointed out the punks in the alley-way for Borla, before her gaze flicked to the other two scenarios in the area. The food carts seemed calm for now, and the cat and its owner were... well, a common scene really. Cats were stubborn like that. Speaking from self-experience... Now the punks, and the carts, those were worth looking out for more. Especially the punks, in her opinion. They looked like the bad news kinda guys, but they could also just be acting big, and just be hanging around and look intimidating.
"A'ight so, think y'could--! H-HEY!!!"
She'd widen her eyes as Borla just... jumps down! Of course, she wasn't WORRIED for him, but just angry! The nerve on this guy! First he just casually states that she was gonna fail her first assignment, and then he just jumps into the middle of a possible situation brewing up! What an idiot! She growls, but suppresses her fury for now, just sighing as she leaps down as well, halting her fall with a well-timed burst of flames from her feet that stopped her momentum a foot away from the ground, before she'd land down next to Borla.
"Like I was SAYIN'... I'm thinkin' about keeping an eye out on 'dese food carts an' those guys in the alley. They lookin' kinda shady. Maybe they got 'deir eyes on the carts."

Borla scratched his tummy peeking to the carts. He was kinda hungr- there came Hell Kitty yelling at him again. Was this their shtick? To Borla, the girl spoke as if stuck in CAPS LOCK. He honed in her words through his uninspired expression. With an arched eyebrow, he looked to the boys, to the carts, and then to the former hero. He honestly wanted to just go eat. As far he was concerned, his stomach took priority over all given options. He was a bit visually perplexed that she hadn't even mentioned the cat. "Kay... " He was thinking, that much was obvious. Finally with a proper answer, "You should really stop yelling at me like that. People are going to think you like me and get the wrong idea." Why was that on his mind, and why hadn't he properly answered her concerns? He was easygoing and didn't really let much disturb his mood. Calmly, Borla would just take things on at his own pace. He decided to hear her out.
"Okay okay... So if there's a brewing situation. -Well. How would you like to solve this?" He had his own methods, but it was why he was the chosen chaperone on Koneko's mission. He slid a few fingers through his hair, and glanced at the points of interest once more. Was there a preferred way Koneko did things? Because there were no villains present in Borla's eyes. He wouldn't say so. He'd let her lead. It was important to get to know her, so he knew what he could tell Izumi. It didn't seem like it but, he was diligently keeping an eye on her.

"GH-!!"
What... did he just say? That off-hand comment was enough for Koneko to freeze up, but the sparks sputtering from her eartips conveyed her feelings well enough; BARELY SUPRESSED RAGE. Just what the hell was this guy all about?! How come HE was made to be her chaperone?! HE WAS A JOKE! And he seemed more concerned about stuffing his belly than actually keeping an eye out for danger and crime! Koneko was close to just calling him out on his BS, and call this quits. She honestly felt like she had gotten stuck in a tent full of clowns with the NJPD now! Well, with the exception of Frank and Kako... whom she had made to hate her. That made the sparks simmer down, and she'd just sigh and calm down, speaking normally.
"Jus'... go stuff y'self if you wanna. I'll be keepin' lookout fer the crooks in the alley. An' while you're at the carts, maybe make sure no one ain't nabbin' stuff from it. Tha's easy to do durin' rush periods like this."
She was at least doing her best to make sure the two of them covered multiple fronts... but she had serious doubts that he was even going to do ANYTHING of what she had just asked, other than maybe actually stuffing his face. So she actually stood by and kept an eye on both the alley, AND the carts... and even occasionally flickered her gaze over to the cat, stubbornly sitting up that tree with its owner begging it to come down. She kept her eyes peeled for now. Something was bound to happen, eventually.

Borla blinked. So she didn't have a plan? Then what was she doing all of that yelling for? In disbelief, he- "Mhmm... Suit yourself." He'd saunter off making a b-line to the woman. He kick the tree. It was strong enough to displace the cat from the branch it was clinging to. While the cat made every effort to claw his arms when he caught it, he gently placed it in the woman's arms. She'd give him a proper thank you. She had coupons to one of the carts. Well now! A pleasant surprise to say the least. He'd then walk right over to the group of boys. They glared at him, and in response, he just scratched the back of his head. His presence was awkward but potent. It seemed like they were on high alert the minute he stopped in front of them.
"WHAT?!?" The leader puffed his chest out with a leering eye.
Borla stared... "I was given coupons for the ramen cart, but these are a bit too much for one guy to handle. Was wondering if any of you were hungry... I saw yall staring at the carts, so I figured I'd ask." He'd present the coupons. They were punch cards... -that cat lady sure loved ramen. These coupons could net at least 7 free meals. Borla could feed himself, them, Koneko, and still have a bowl or two to spare. Well, he wasn't so sure about sharing with Koneko. She was... trying her best. One of the boys balled his fists up, lightning sparking along his knuckles. "What's yer problem? Think we can't take care of ourselves?"
What a troublesome guy. Scanning the group, two out of the group seemed like they were fine with accepting the free meal.

And he made a bee-line for the woman and her cat. She was a bit surprised by his choice of action, but if that's what he wanted to do then, she saw no issue with it. She kept an eye on the carts and crooks still, but she did notice how he actually aided the woman out in getting her cat out of the tree, and he was given... coupons? Well, it was a surprise indeed, one that even made Koneko raise a brow... and then he just went straight up for the boys in the alley, which just got her even more surprised. Why the hell was he--
The coupons.
He was offering them up food to placate them. And while the leader was trying to act all tough and hot, two of them seemed to at least be somewhat eager for the free meals offered. Just... how? How did he know? Koneko actually started feeling a bit deflated from seeing just how casually he had solved the dilemmas around the area, and here she was trying to be serious and looking out for trouble! But, even so, the leader was still being hot-headed, so she stood on stand-by, observing them, seeing if he was going to cause trouble.

For a moment, Borla broke eye contact to see if Koneko had moved. She hadn't but taking his eyes off the boy meant getting sucker punched. He wouldn't falter, or even stutter for that matter, even as blood dripped from his lip. Turning back to the group, his eyes sharpened if only for a moment. The rumble is his engine spurred up again. Revving high into 1st gear the ground beneath him cracked, "So this means I get to hit you back now right?" Dark smoke left his nostrils. The leader recoiled, swiping a coupon like suggested earlier and scampering away. "FREAK!" The others of his group would bow in an apologetic fashion. Borla would calm his quirk, and bow as well. "You folks must not be from here. We handle our own problems in this city instead of asking for heroes or police first. I know your faces now... so please try to stay out of trouble. The neighborhood watch will tell me if they see any funny business."
"We're sorry!" They say in unison before sprinting after their boss.
"Kay... Welcome to Osaka." He'd wave goodbye as if he'd made some friends. The taste of blood wasn't so nice, but he'd been punched plenty of times before, and much harder at that. He spit onto the ground, but looking back up to Koneko, and giving her a thumbs up. He felt she was being shy. She could've come too. There was a lot to explain... He really hadn't begun any explanations because she'd been yelling at him this whole time. Although... that was primarily his fault. Izumi didn't chose Borla for his personality, but for his experience. While she had started the group, Borla and Frank were the only ones doing vigilante work before joining. In that particular way, they were the most experienced. Spending time with either of them would give one some proper insight on what it was like to be a vigilante, but also more insight on being a member of NJPD as they were more seasoned than most members. Koneko had royally pissed Frank off... he'd also been working with Kako who also had been royally pissed off by Koneko. SO, Borla was the next best thing... -at least for this first mission.
"Yooooo. I have coupons. Free food on me." He'd try and get her to come down. He wanted to compare notes. How would she have handled it? He never even dreamed of being a hero, nor did going to hero school ever cross his mind. There methods were probably extremely different, as different as their personalities.

No, you idiot! Don't turn your back on them-- and he just got clocked in the face. Even Koneko flinched a bit as he just took the punch, and she was ready to jump in and assist Borla, but it seems he had things under control, just acting on his own. That was another surprise for her. He did not hesitate to just use his quirk and intimidate the leader into submitting. And as he and his goons ran off, and Borla gave her the thumbs up, she just sort of... deflated. He had just handled everything on his own, while she just stood passive and did... nothing. He had seemingly identified the most pressing issue, and just went with it. No way he could've predicted the old lady having those coupons though, but still! It was as if everything just fell into place for him, and he just acted.
And she did nothing.
"... Fine."
Her answer was short, and spoken quietly. Her flames had all but fizzled out, as she just went along with Borla as the two of them got their food. With food in hand, they'd find a place to just sit down and eat, but Koneko merely prodded her chop-sticks at her food, eating one bite at a time occasionally. She seemed to have a lot on her mind.
"... How come y' just... knew what to do? You jus' took one look and went for it. I was taught that yer not supposed to act until there's an actual active situation goin' on, and other than those goons, there was really nothin' happening around us. I guess I jus' thought everything looked fine... no need to act if there ain' no trouble..."

Borla dug right in, humming in delight as he ate. Osaka was known for it's street food for a reason. It made him proud to be from this great city. Knew what to do? "I didn't..." Of course that wouldn't be enough of an answer for her. He'd learned that much so far. Swallowing his food, he-"It would make sense we see the situation differently. You were taught to be a hero, I wasn't. I just do what I think makes sense... and waiting around didn't make sense. " He'd dig his chopsticks down into the food and eat some more. "And there was trouble. That lady needed help with her cat. Was she not good enough to be helped? I don't think she counted as nothing." With his chopsticks, he'd nab a bite from her plate. If she wasn't going to eat, he'd help himself.
"As for those dickheads go, there was no harm in talking to them." He shrugged as if he hadn't gotten slugged a few moments ago. He stopped as if coming into some sort of profound thought. "You've got funny taste." He didn't quite fancy what she bought. He liked things outlandishly spicy. Back on the subject though, he- "But yeah... there's a ton of ways to tackle a situation. Sometimes the 'correct' way isn't always the right thing to do, but it also doesn't mean it's the wrong thing to do. You were perfectly fine doing what you were doing, at least since this is Osaka. I don't know, I feel like it'll make more sense the more you're around us and the longer you live here. "

"N-No! I didn't think 'dat! I jus' figured... the cat would'a come down on its own eventually, if it got hungry or... somethin'..."
Koneko blurts out, trying to defend herself, but calmed down once she realized that Borla wasn't really 'accusing' her, but more just pointing it out. She took a few more bites out of her own food, which was quite a bit spicy as well. She liked things hot, after all. Regardless, she'd just listen to Borla again, hearing his explanations as she ate, just calming down and listening. It felt... odd to just listen. It was as if she was back in U.A again, and having to learn all over again.
"I jus'... I feel so fuckin' lost."
She finally admits, her bowl about 3/4 finished as she puts it down next to her, hands reaching up to grab at her own head, firmly rubbing her scalp and temples in frustration.
"I thought bein' a hero was all I wanted my whole life... to finally be respected fer who I am, an' not just 'cause I had a cool quirk. To not jus' be a title an' an icon with a name on it, but as a person! An'... turns out, tha's just what a hero's life is, seemingly! To just get further pushed up on 'dat damn pedestal to jus' stand around an' be pretty! All while y'bully and push down people who jus' wanna use their birth-gifts t'help others! But 'dey can't 'cause they don' got permission from big ol' Daddy Government! An' people like Frank who could hones' to god help people get rejected for dumbass reasons, while people like ME, who's only good at blastin' and destroyin' shit, get a pass just 'cause of some dumb hero course!"
All while she got heated up, flames flickered and sparked around her ears and head, but she took a deep breath at the end, as they fizzled out quickly.
"An' yet... now 'dat I'm out here, throwin' away my hero life to actually try an' help proper... now I jus' feel lost. Like I dunno what to do... An' it's killin' me, Borla... I jus' wanna do good things, I do! But I... I-I dunno how to do it..."

Borla sat back and looked at the sky as she spoke. She needed to take a step back, but saying something so simple wouldn't really help would it? Borla was a simplistic guy... How could she walk around with so much pent-up energy? He mulled it over with a few more bites. Finally finishing, he sat the tray next to him and eyed her. He seemed frustrated, more so because he struggled to find the proper words. Wasn't she older than him? He had thought adults were more even-keeled than this. He'd exhaled, a grey cloud escaping his nose, a by-product of his quirk.
"An' yet... now 'dat I'm out here, throwin' away my hero life to actually try an' help proper... now I jus' feel lost. Like I dunno what to do... An' it's killin' me, Borla... I jus' wanna do good things, I do! But I... I-I dunno how to do it..."
"I think you made the right choice coming here. Those schools make everything about fighting. You can help people without ever raising your fists." He said. He took a second to get to his next point. "This "mission" has nothing to do with patrolling or anything like that. It's just about getting adjusted. I said you'd fail because most people do, especially heroes. You guys have such a narrow viewpoint of what's heroic... Just carrying someone's groceries, or helping a kid cross a street can be viewed as a hero. Feeding the homeless, giving kids without a place to go good food and education... that's what we care about. We care about creating a real community of people who care about each other."
He'd pat her on the back with a subtle smile. "I think with some time you'll fit in just fine and you'll even become someone you'll feel proud of. -Someone who can do good."

"Yea', ain't that the lesson o' the frickin' century right there..."
Koneko huffs, but it's clear it's not at all out of disrespect, and more out of frustration as Borla proclaims she can help people without putting up fists. But, he was right; she had 'failed', technically. And that realization kind of hit her harder than it should've, as despite doing her damnedest to contain it, her eyes did dampen a bit which she quickly tried to hide by wiping off any tears threatening to escape. She listened on all the ways she could help without fighting. It all sounded so... mundane. So easy. But if they truly thought it was heroic behavior...
"... I guess I could try 'dat. But... my quirk's real dangerous, y'know? Though I guess yers is kinda dangerous, too. I'll do my best to contain it fer now."

He blinked. She took that better than he had hoped. Maybe she wasn't so bad. He'd set his tray to the side of himself, pretending not to see Koneko get a bit emotional. It was to give her some wiggle room to get a tear or two out if need be. Dangerous, eh? "Tch.. nah. My quirk's a curse. This thing'll kill me before I ever turn 40." He'd admit. He hated his quirk. The only true benefit it possessed was that he could protect others. "Not like it matters. I'll just do what I can before that day comes..." He was a bit one-track-minded but for good reason. "We're going to change Japan... I know we will." He'd run his hands through his hair and shake off the bad vibes.
"Don't contain anything. When it's time to let it fly, let it fly. Trust me." The teen would stand up and stretch. He never held anything back on a foe. Though... again, they probably held different views on that as well. For Borla, most villains were scum, but he'd learned that they all didn't need to get purged. He'd kill if he needed to, and show mercy when he needed to. "If it means making it back home safe, do what you need to do." It was the same sentiment Kako and Frank had. They were great influences, and contributers to the community they served... They were protectors and fighters...-vigilantes, but above all else. Making it home was a primary concern.

She would look him over as he mentioned the dangers of his quirk, but she still didn't know what it was exactly. Trying to puzzle things together, she could guess it had something to do with a motor engine, perhaps? Regardless, he just pushed it aside and went onto other topics. And his words-
"We're going to change Japan... I know we will."
They... moved her, somewhat. Change Japan... that's what all the heroes kept blaring on about, when they were nothing but over-sized and over-hyped bullies. But these guys... they truly seemed to have Japan's greater interests in mind. So, she'd slowly stand up, and gently put a hand on Borla's shoulder, giving him an impish, but genuine grin.
"Nye-he-he-he~ Yea', bet'cha we will change it. 'Specially now when ya got me on the team~"
A tease, of course. She knew she had a LOT to learn... and RE-learn. And UN-learn from what U.A High had crammed into her. But at least it gave a display of confidence, rather than despair like she had felt a few moments ago. She had hope now.
She would be better.

He'd squinted at her, playfully retorting with a- "Hmmmm. We'll have to see about that, newbie." He couldn't give her the satisfaction, though he admittedly let out a chuckle. Well, she was in the thick of it now. She'd only get more experience by joining. Some would be outreach tasks, others some neighborhood watch tasks, and of course, she'd be getting a mission here and there as she settled in. "I think, I've seen and heard enough. I'll go report to Izumi... You're free to do whatever. You can explore, make some new friends, or whatever." He'd begin walking off into the distance. "While you didn't totally fail and that's nice, but I can't just give you an A just because you've made a friend. A C+ is good enough sometimes." Borla held a thumbs up.

Koneko, for the first time in a long while, was genuinely smiling now, at least. Borla's judgment and given grade seemed... fair, to say the least. She was still a newbie, and thus she wasn't ready for everything. But at least she was now on the road to being a better person, she could feel it. But, she did not feel ready to return to HQ just yet. So she'd just make a thumbs up back at Borla, and then motioned for him to go along. She'd stay here in Osaka's center for a bit more, just to mingle and get into the atmosphere a bit more. Just hanging about and taking things in. She felt like she'd need it for future situations.
