Cassandra remained stoic, watching Gwen have her fun with the candy... she couldn't do it. The girl exhaled through her nose, which carried into giggling under her breath. A round, fat blob? It was difficult to maintain her sober demeanor with this girl. So often she was surrounded by these kinds of people. Colorful. Talkative. Happy. They were nothing at all like her Family. She surmised that this was a good thing.
The spider needed help. Dietary most of all. It was little wonder that Cassandra had nearly bested her in the race. She studied the proffered stick of sweetness... and then it was gone. Gwen would have barely had time to blink. Cassandra's reflexes had not only snatched the pocky from her hand, the whole thing had completely vanished from sight. Already, Cassandra was finishing swallowing the crunchy goodness contained within that modest morsel. She stared Gwen dead in the eyes... and then licked her lips to remove some errant chocolate. She wore a wicked smile.
Cassandra waited, expectant. She turned about, taking in their surroundings. It was Gwen's turn now.

Gwen snorted, chuckling at Cassandra's actions through her nose. They were definitely two peas in a pod, connected across worlds and realities by humour and circumstance. Two isolated beings, tied together by a web of familiarity that bridged even the immeasurable gap between their two universes.
"See? Isn't junk food just the best? Forget like... spinach, or whatever. Chocolate! That's the real food of Queens."
Of course, now there was no pocky. Gwen put her hands on her hips, looking around as if the answer to her sudden on-set boredom would be in the very corners of this room. Then she snapped her fingers, a thought springing to the front and centre of her mind.
"Ah! I've got it. I beat you in a real race, no contest of course, but I bet you could beat me at a virtual race. You ever been to the Arc's arcade? It's actually pretty decent. So many games that I'd never seen in my own r- hometown. Hadn't been released there, of course!"
Gwen wasn't good at keeping secrets, especially chock full of adrenaline and chocolate, and could only hold her own as she deftly recovered. The less people that knew she came from a different reality, the better. She looked at her budding friend, grinning.
"Anyway - I could kick your butt at Road Fighter, or Tokken, but at least you'd have a chance, Batsy! What do you say, wanna go?"

Cassandra watched Gwen with a blank stare. As she went on, her new friend slowly raised an eyebrow. She was familiar with arcades... or, tried to be. The appeal of it was largely lost on her. She could do what many of these pixelated warriors could do herself, She... could not drive, but Gwen did not have to know that. She also did not need to know that these games did not matter to Cassandra.
She slowly shook her head, smiling. All she needed to do was ask. "Sure." Cassandra's eyes moved to the corridors connecting the cafeteria to the other facilities within the sprawling Arc. Gwen was clearly familiar with the arcade and where it was. She would need to lead the way.

Gwen was familiar, intimately so. She lead the way, weaving through the corridors at a comparably muted speed, chatting nonsense at Cassandra for the most part. She was confortable talking for the both of them. In this quiet yet mysterious girl, Gwen had found someone close to her own soul, something she hadn't thought would happen in this universe.
They rounded a corner like any other, and ahead... illuminated in garish neon colours was a large curved sign, a single word split down the middle. Gwen looked at Cass, shaking her head.
"Arc-ade... what kind of dork came up with that?"
The awaiting machines within didn't catch Gwen's attention as they entered. She was focused on the back of the dimly lit room, striding past fighting games, space games, pinball, air hockey... the girl stopped before a tall machine that sat in a dark corner. It was adorned with flames, bones, skulls and every kind of hard-core edgy motif you could think of. Gwen smiled to herself as she grabbed her weapon, turning to Cass with a triumphant look on her face.
"Where I come from it's called something different, but you won't even come close to beating me on this! Music is in my blood, and I've never lost a game of Guitar Hero."

Cassandra went along with Gwen, weaving through the corridors soundlessly, listlessly. In spite of being like many people that Cassandra had come to know, Gwen was special. It was not something that could be put to words.
When they arrived at the Arc-ade, Cassandra's senses were immediately taken in by... everything. The noises. The lights. It was mesmerizing, in a way. Cassandra did not stop amid her observations, instead following Gwen to the game of her choice. These were games? She supposed that made sense. She did not go to these places for... several reasons.
The girl looked at "Guitar Hero", wide-eyed. It was so... vivid. Listening to it was one thing. Being here, with this thing in her hands... it did not feel as other things did. Cassandra gripped her own guitar weakly, looking to Gwen. She looked... nervous. Meanwhile, Gwen was completely in her element. This looked like a guitar, but it did not have strings, or a pick, or that inner chamber where her brother often lost his picks. "What... do we, do?

Gwen saw Cassandra's look of fear, and patted her shoulder with a friendly smile.
"Ah... don't worry! It's fun, really. I know I can be competitive, but the thing is just to... breath. Like what you taught me before. You gotta let your mind go free, reach a state of zen. Just you, the music and your guitar."
She showed Cassandra how to use the game's controller. The colourful frets, the button "string", dramatically bringing the neck up to engage the various modes... Gwen was a patient teacher, energetic and kind.
"And look, you can pick your characters. Oh, they've got Superhero options. I've not played this version, let's see..."
Gwen flicked through the options until she found the perfect one - Spiderman, with a bright red-webbed guitar. She grinned.
"Seems suitable! Who are you going for?"

Cassandra nodded slowly as Gwen walked her through each part of the controller, and then the game itself. Back home, she was strictly forbidden from playing these things. She still did not understand why. More importantly... she was not home right now. Gwen was here. She could try it now. She fiddled with each button and adjustable piece. The interactions clicked with her instantly. When Gwen took her own stance, Cassandra mirrored it, then looked back at the screen. Her own character... She flipped through them, quickly. Before long, she settled on an adult woman of Asian descent, gripping a sleek black-and-red guitar. She was dressed like she was out of an old action movie. Her hair was cropped short in a butch haircut, and her form-fitting clothing emphasized her curves and fitness in equal measure. Cassandra did not try to read the character's name. SANDRA WU.
Cassandra looked at Gwen, still a little apprehensive. She was... ready?

Gwen nodded appreciatively at Cass's choice. She flipped the screen to the next menu, a long list of songs that she scrolled down through. A few that she didn't recognise, a few that were similar but slightly different, and a handful that were... "Oh, heck yeah!"Gwen looked at Cass, grinning. She gripped her guitar tight, nodding her head at the other girl. "Ready? Just follow my lead... first time will always be difficult, so don't stress! Deep breath, and let's go!"Gwen slammed down the start button and the intro riff began. Buttons of various colours sprang onto screen, and she started to shred, her fingers a blur across the fretboard, the string button putty in her hands. It was like watching a master at work.

She was not ready. She was not ready at all. Almost immediately Cassandra could feel her body tensing up. Everything was coming so quickly. The music, the voices, the lights. Cassandra's fingers fumbled on the guitar. She was getting every third or fourth note, at best. She started looking back and forth between her own fingers and the screen. Sandra Wu was not doing well at all. She was not doing well at all. She did not want to be here.
But, she didn't run. It helped that Gwen was not making fun of her. Her brothers were not so merciful... though they were not mean when her big sister was there. She wondered why. This was as far as her mind dared wander - simply trying to process all of these sensations at once was making Cassandra nauseous. At least her face did not betray that... not yet, anyway.

"Relax! Don't think too much!"Gwen was watching Cass with a big grin, her fingers still bounding across the fret. She was hitting every note, lightning bursting blue from the screen as Spider-man shredded his way across the stage. "You showed me earlier, how to switch off your mind. Trust your instincts, Cass! Deep breaths. Don't focus on the notes... listen to your heart. Embrace the music, let it become a part of you. All that zen yoga stuff you do, you gotta just let it extend to your guitar. It's not an instrument, it's, like, part of you!"Gwen dove into an intense riff, her hands a blur, tongue sticking out partly as she focused on the screen. It was like breathing for her. Eyes alive with energy, her body moving and swaying to the notes as they filled the air around them. "Let it flow over you. Don't fight it. It's like water. You gotta go with the music, let it take you on a journey. Na na, na na, nanananana!"The last notes faded, and Gwen wiped her brow. "I love that song. The way I always imagine music is the same way I imagine fighting some creep in a costume. You listen to the flow of battle, the rhythm of their movements, and you just... go with it."
She cocked her head to one side, giving Cass a lopsided smile. "Or am I just talking absolute garbage at you? You can be honest if it doesn't make any sense!"

Cassandra barely heard Gwen at first. It was one sound among many others, lost in the cacophony of it all. Then, her sound continued to call out among the reverie. Easier to hear, and to hold onto. Cassandra opened her eyes, just briefly at first. The TV was no longer there. Her eyes were fixed on Gwen's. There was only her, and her words. Cassandra nodded, frowning. The change was almost instantaneous. Her rigor mortis broke with a blur as her fingers stretched across the plastic guitar as if she was in combat. On the screen beyond, Sandra Wu played the last series of notes with perfect aplomb, including a disjointed sound effect to complement the tepid success. Even after the song ended, Cassandra continued to "play" on the guitar, emulating the faded rhythm as if the song had simply started over. A wild grin came over her face, and her body took a much more active posture.
Then, she looked up. Face burning, Cassandra let go of the guitar, causing it to hang taut against her torso. Her expression was caught between a giddy smile and flippant embarrassment. The moment quickly passed. Cassandra moved fast, fast like she had in the race, and awkwardly seized Gwen in a tight hug. Then, she let go, taking a step and a half back, settling her hands behind her back. Cassandra had settled into a soft smile.
"It... makes sense."

Gwen clapped her hands together as Cassandra shredded through the final notes like an absolute pro. She didn't have time to respond before the other girl had grabbed her in an awkward hug, but reciprocated with meaning. Because... she had a friend. Someone who listened to her, and who they could share advice with, joke and have fun. Batsy was an ally, but not she was more than that. "I'm glad I made sense. Thanks, Cass. For spending time with me, and... I dunno, like, making me feel normal for once."She pulled away, giving the other girl a wide smile. Then she grabbed her guitar again. "But now I know what you're capable of, I want to see you do better! C'mon, I know the perfect song..."The Arc Cade was filled once again with the loud music of Guitar Hero, as the two of them dove back into the next song. Gwen hadn't been so happy for a long time.
