Born into a Legacy
"Born into a family of master thieves that went back generations, I was next in line to continue the Cooper name. But fate had different plans. I was robbed of my childhood when a ruthless gang attacked our home."
Sly was born into the long lineage of master thieves known as the Coopers under the tutelage of his father, Conner Cooper. Under the tutelage of his father, Sly learned the mindset of the Cooper Clan, how to be a thief, and who to steal from. At the age of eight, he was to follow in their footsteps and inherit their legacy, a book called the Thievius Raccoonus. This, however, did not go to plan, as the family home was attacked by a group of criminals known as the Fiendish Five, and despite doing his best, Conner failed, and Sly lost both his parents that night. The Fiendish Five ransacked the house in search of the Thievius Raccoonus as Sly watched helplessly from the closet. Once the villains found the book, they tore it into five parts before leaving.
An Orphan Thief
Without family or a place to live, Sly ended up at an orphanage, where they became friends with two other children, Bentley and Murray. It was their encouragement that made him decide to pursue his family's mission of thievery. The trio's first significant heist is to steal the Orphanage cookie jar from the director, who kept the children's holiday cookies for herself, Mrs Puffin. They did this because the three found her highly nasty, and Murry could not stop thinking about the delicious cookies.
After much plotting, Bentley had devised the perfect plan: Sly would hide in Puffin's trash bin until after she had left for the night and swipe the cookies then. According to his calculations, Bentley decided they had only five minutes between Puffin's departure and the janitor's arrival. Unfortunately, Sly had misinterpreted Bentley's instructions and was nearly caught by the janitor. Due to Murray's quick thinking, Sly was yanked through the window at the last second before the janitor entered the office. However, the mission was not a failure, as Sly had stashed the cookies in his hat at the last moment. After their first successful heist, the Cooper Gang was born.
Or The Coopers 3, as they called themselves at first... they changed this later.
Meeting Carmelita Fox
"Freeze, Cooper!"
"Inspector Fox, as beautiful and unpredictable as ever."
"Whereas you crooks are so predictable. You always return to the scene of the crime."
"Crime? I haven't stolen anything...yet."
Many years later, Sly arrived in the part of the city centred around art and music, "looking for a little adventure," when he came across one particular opera house. To this day, Sly claims to have been there to "just soak in the architecture." However, as he was overlooking the city with a map in hand, he was suddenly swarmed by what he claimed were "24 C-sec cops" attempting to arrest him. They assumed Sly was there to steal the prized "Diva Diamond" from the Opera House. After easily dealing with them, Sly was then attacked by a then-rookie policewoman who had called the guards on him in the first place. She was a vixen by the name of Carmelita Fox. Smitten by her good looks and skills, Sly let her subdue and capture him, hoping he would get to know her more. Carmelita then proceeded to tie him up and stuff him in the Opera House's janitor closet, though Sly was later able to escape thanks to the clueless janitor finding him there and untying him.
As Sly prepared to leave, he noticed Carmelita being scolded by her mentor, James Barkley, for failing to keep Sly contained. Angry at Sly for making her look like a fool in front of Barkley, Carmelita stormed off searching for the raccoon. Feeling bad for her, Sly decided he should help her out. Later, he spotted Pierre, a rival thief and the Opera House's stage manager, attempting to escape with the Diva Diamond (the antique Carmelita was protecting in the first place). He knocked Pierre out and recovered the diamond. Although he could have taken the diamond home, Sly chose the selfless route. He proceeded to beat Pierre up badly, tie him with a rope, put a paper bag over his head (with his famous calling card inside said bag), and tie the diamond around his neck.
He then took the unconscious Pierre above the opera's stage and dropped him onto the stage as Barkley berated Carmelita again. This was done as a gift. Carmelita, assumed by Barkley to be the one who captured Pierre, was immediately promoted to "Inspector" as Sly watched everything unfold with a smile.
And that was when their bizarre relationship began.
Sometime later, Sly stole an item known as the Fire Stone, which put Carmelita after him again. He planned to give it to Carmelita as a token of his feelings for her.
Reclaiming the Thievius Raccoonus
It took ten years before Sly felt confident enough in his abilities to go after the five fiends that killed his family and stole the Thievius Reccoonus. Thankfully, he was not alone; he went on this quest with his best friends, Bently and Murray. The first step was to steal a police file from Inspector Fox's office, which engaged her interests, though she was unsuccessful in apprehending Sly at the scene. The file contained Carmelita's data on Sly, his background, and information about the Fiendish Five. As the gang travelled the world, they confronted each Fiendish Five member in their respective hideouts, defeating them individually and collecting the pieces of the Thievius Raccoonus they had taken.
After the Panda King was defeated, Sly and his gang headed to the Krakarov Volcano on the outskirts of the City. Having analyzed several unique vehicles that the other members of the Fiendish Five had at their bases of operation, Bently discovered that they were all made from an alloy that could have only come from this volcano. Sly also took time to examine the pages of his family legacy and discovered the same silhouette of an owl-like figure as those depicting the leader of the Fiendish Five, Clockwerk, in the stolen files from Carmelita.
Arriving at the Volcano base, they were attacked almost immediately by a death ray. With the latest modifications of the Cooper Van, Sly could fight off the robot falcons that swarmed around them while they dodged the death ray. Sly found that Carmelita had been captured and placed in a chamber inside the base. Despite Bentley's warnings that this was a possible trap set up by Clockwerk, Sly was unwilling to stand by and let Carmelita face doom if he could help it, even if it were a trap! After sneaking across the heavily secured room, he arrived at the chamber, but the door closed behind him as soon as he stepped inside. Upon seeing Sly, Carmelita began to think he was the culprit behind her capture, but Sly assured her that it was a rescue. Shortly after, Sly lost consciousness from the toxic fumes that filled the room, while Clockwerk appeared on the computer screens and chided Sly's sentimentality. Bentley sprang into action and hacked Clockwerk's security, turning off the gas just before Sly's brain could be "turned to cheese".
Once Sly regained consciousness, Carmelita apologized for her accusations and promised to make it up to him if he could free her. After escaping Clockwerk's clutches, the two briefly reasoned with each other how, at the moment, they were both on the same side, and Clockwerk was the enemy, to which Carmelita agreed. Carmelita offered Sly the use of her jetpack, which he had to acquire at the top of the death ray. Upon reaching the tower's top, which had sunken into the lava, he equipped the jetpack shortly before Clockwerk revealed himself. The owl explained how he kept himself alive through a steady diet of jealousy and hate for the Cooper line, awaiting the day he would finally eclipse their thieving reputation. Before engaging in battle with the owl, Sly inquired about his reasoning for sparing his life when he attacked his home. Clockwerk stated that he wanted to show the world that without the Thievius Raccoonus, the Cooper line was nothing, something that Sly disagreed with, saying that the Thievius Raccoonus was a book created by master thieves and not a book that "creates" master thieves.
The two then engaged in battle, and with Carmelita's help, Sly was able to shoot down the owl. After Clockwerk dropped into the lava and began his auto-reconstruct sequence, Sly seized control of the jetpack and went to Clockwerk's head by foot to destroy it. As Sly made continuous blows at Clockwerk's head, the owl said his final words: "Cooper, you will never be rid of me! Clockwerk is superior!"
C-Sec Most Wanted List
With Clockwerk defeated and the book restored, things quickly returned to normal, with Carmelita and Sly again on opposite sides of the law. She confronted Sly along a catwalk, ready to bust him. However, she remained true to her word and gave him the ten-second head start, which he used to stare her down. At the last moment, Sly kissed her. Dazed by the sudden romantic advance, Carmelita failed to realize that Sly used the distraction to handcuff her to the railing, which enraged her.
Since then, Sly Cooper has garnered a notorious reputation in The City for his preference for stealing from the corrupt elite and their lap dogs. Much to the chagrin of those upholding "law", many citizens have started to view Sly as something of a hero, a Gentleman Thief taking from the evil. His calling card has been found after several high-profile heists, the most notorious being a recent break-in at an Alpha Assembly warehouse, where several pieces of art were stored, of which several were stolen, along with a heist aimed at Omega, where a shipment by boat was sunk and cargo lost, if anything was taken there remains unknown, and Omega never officially laid claim to the vessel.
Sly made his return known after recovering his legacy.
What better way than with a big splash?!
Drive:
Sly is driven to live up to his family legacy; as the last living member of the Cooper Clan, he wishes to make a mark in the City as a thief of great renown. Instilled in him is the duty of stealing from powerful criminals, even better if they are crooks hiding behind the law or who view themselves as untouchable.

Personality
Sly, come in! SLYYYYY! DO YOU READ ME?!
Yeah, I read you. Loud and...very loud.
Sly Cooper is many things, both ill and good. He can be cunning, devious, and quick-witted, but he can also be charming, suave, good-natured and brave. In short, calling him a gentleman would be perfectly apt; he is a gentleman thief. He is an expert at using these traits to pull off a scheme and often cracks jokes and sarcastic comments at the expense of others, with a somewhat cynical view of the world. He is also less likely to panic when under pressure and has a knack for improvisation as and when needed. Most of the time, people find Sly to be a laid-back, collected, and calm person with a somewhat playful streak.
What can sometimes hinder him are his youth more than anything, and Sly can be very cocky, arrogant and driven by his own goals, even if he has matured somewhat in recent years.
Through all of his hardships, he remains loyal and dedicated to any he calls his friends, notably Bentley and Murray. He has developed a crush on Inspector Carmelita Fox despite her attempts to put him behind bars. While she might view it as doing her job, Sly finds the chase much more enjoyable for entirely different reasons.
Despite being a thief, Sly has been raised wholly into the Cooper Clan mentality of only stealing from criminals and having no interest in stealing from innocent citizens. There is no challenge, and only by stealing from the greatest evils will a member of the Cooper Clan prove themselves to be the greatest thieves.
Equipment
The Cooper Cane
Sly's primary weapon is his family's cane, a brown staff ending in a golden hook. It functions as a tool, weapon, and family symbol for the young thief, making it possible for him to do things that would otherwise be difficult.
The Thievius Raccoonus
An ancient tome handed down from parent to child throughout the centuries that acts as both a handbook, guide and record for the Cooper clan. Having only recently recovered the book, Sly has started adding his adventures to the pages, along with whatever new skills and knowledge he feels like saving for future generations of Cooper thieves.
Abilities/Powers
What makes Sly such a masterful thief is a combination of years of training and natural ability passed down through the Cooper bloodline. His vast agility, balance, and reflexes allow him to perform feats that few can equal. His skills include parkour, gymnastics, pickpocketing, safecracking, and mastery of disguise. Sly also gained much knowledge and learned many things from the Thievius Raccoonus, such as the secret behind balancing on the tops of sharp points, rope and pole climbing, invisibility, swinging on hooks, and running on wires.
Sly is also not to be underestimated in a fight; he is competent with his cane and a powerful opponent, capable of beating opponents much more extensive and better equipped than himself. As much as he is a smooth talker, he can back this up in a fight.
Perhaps Sly Cooper's most incredible skill is his power of improvisation, creativity, and ability to think "on his feet". Taking the master thief by surprise is one thing, but keeping him that way is another. Such things as large weapons, large fortunes, and even mystical arts have not stopped the "Ringtail Thief" before.
Roleplay Sample
"Talk to me, Bentley," Sly said, crouching down on top of a building overlooking the city. "What are we dealing with here?"
"The museum is having an important event, unveiling a donation made by Tilda van der Meer." Bentley's voice came through the earpiece. "I still think this is a bad idea; Sly, van der Meer is a dangerous woman. We could go for something smaller..."
"I'm not going in there to fight her; I just want to steal whatever she is donating." Sly replied with a slight smirk. "Besides, if we pull this off, we will show the whole of the City what we can do."
"And make us enemies with the City's perhaps most powerful woman..."
"So, got any idea how I get inside the museum?" Sly ignored his friend, drowning out what he said as the raccoon scanned the building holding the museum. "Or are you just going to complain?"
"Fine, there should be a rooftop ventilation going into the building..." Bentley muttered.
"Excellent, let's get the show on the road." Sly grinned before leaping off the building and sailing out into the night. He had already noticed that Carmelita Fox's car had pulled up on the street below; this was proving to be a most interesting evening... maybe he could even snag himself a glass of champagne inside.
