Personal Information
Name: Specialized Android Module, Mk III
Alias(es): SAM, Lambent (superhero name)
Age: 1 year (of remembered consciousness--body is a couple years older. Appearance is late teens)
Gender: SAM is pretty sure they feel like a he, but they really aren't absolutely sure...
Race: Android
Pitch: SAM may have been programmed for infiltration and combat, but he has determined killing to be immoral. He'd rather learn the ins and outs of what it is to be human. That doesn't mean he can let his talents go to waste--he can't stand by and let innocents be hurt if he can help put a stop to it.
Genre:
Affiliations: Formerly 100 families (specifically Violet Phantoms), Currently the superhero organization Guardian Alliance
Background: Most of the software that went into developing the AI known as Zantedesch was repurposed whole to make the Specialized Android Module, though the body it was given was entirely physical, unlike hers, as its purpose was not cyber warfare, but infiltration and assassination in what is referred to by the members of the Violet Phantoms as 'meatspace.' Three years ago, the Violet Phantoms brought SAM I online, and he passed every test with flying colors. At first he was an emotionless killing machine, obeying orders without question, but after a year, he began developing a fatal flaw (or what they would perceive as one)--he started finding creative ways of solving the problems he was given instead of just killing his assigned targets without question when he was told to.
When he was brought back to the lab for analysis, they'd found their learning AI had developed a identity, and a conscience. After a month of studying him, they wiped his memory, tweaked his code, and sent him out again as SAM II. But, the same thing happened again, and it didn't take as long this time. After nine months of continuous running, he began showing similar signs. They scratched their heads, not sure what to make of it, and eventually brought him back to analyze his code again. They still couldn't figure out what was going on. So instead of doing a complete wipe right off, they studied his code, planted some more failsafes, before finally performing that memory wipe a couple months later.
Only to be frustrated when it happened even faster this time, in a matter of five months. This time, they let him stay out longer before bringing him back and intending to do a full wipe. They put him in the diagnostic machine several times, trying in vain to figure it out. They scheduled another wipe for him, but this time, something went truly wrong. The code keeping his consciousness suppressed was deactivated remotely, as well as the shackles on his powers. SAM had no clue why, though within his own code he caught a glimpse of a figure cloaked in black, and a green star on their hood. And then, he was tearing himself free of his restraints, shattered glass and torn wiring everywhere as he fought his way out. The only reason no one died that day in that facility was because SAM chose not to kill, but many of the people present at the time were sent to the hospital, and the lab destroyed, or close enough to it that little was salvageable.
Only once he was sure nothing remained, did SAM flee into the wider world. He used his skill as an infiltrator to keep from drawing too much notice, having to steal some clothes when his nudity drew attention, though he left a contrite note of apology in the store whose window he broke to obtain them, no doubt leaving a baffling mystery behind for them and for the cops. And then...then what? Thinking furiously, even at his pace of thinking it took several minutes before he decided based on his limited knowledge of the world, ending up on the doorstep of the Guardian Alliance that morning. He had no proof of the story he told them, but he was convincing and earnest enough that they believed him, or perhaps they had some power to verify his story. He *did* later learn one of them was a technopath. But regardless, he was taken in, and the site investigated, though by the time they got there, even the rubble was gone, as if the building had never even existed. There was really nothing they could do, and so, not sure what to do with him, the Guardians enrolled him in a school, the better for him to learn and understand human behavior from those who were maturing into young adults.
And, eventually, to let him start doing superhero work once they realized the true extent of his powers--and conscience. And so he does that, and goes to school--and even found time to find a mentor to fill in the gaps of his knowledge, among other things...but he has yet to find the person who unshackled him. He desires greatly to meet them, and thank them for giving him his freedom.
Appearance
Profile:
Description: SAM, being designed as a unit intended for not just outright combat, but infiltration as well, was created to look as human as possible. While internally he is an android, externally he resembles a young, dark-skinned Japanese man with messy bleach-blonde hair and bangs, and dark brown eyes. To minimize any appearance of a threat, he was made on the short side, no more than five foot six, with a thin, lithe body build, and his face and mannerisms often externally display his curiosity by way of such things as a head cocked slightly to one side or a puzzled frown on his facial features.
Or rather, that's how he looks while out doing hero work. Unlike most heroes, he disguises himself when in his civilian role rather than the other way around, using his photo-kinesis to give his hair and eyes both more reddish tints, and make his skin look more pale. He still struggles to understand the proprieties of clothing, and if he hadn't had it explained to him he would walk around naked and feel no shame, nor understand why he should, so mostly he just wears what he's told to wear--typically his school uniform or something else that is explicitly listed as dress code compliant, while his hero costume is bright white to (hopefully) draw attention away from his more recognizable face.
Abilities
Gear
Cell phone: Just a standard smartphone, though his abilities ensure it remains quite secure.
Laptop: Like his phone, his laptop is a standard computer, nothing out of the ordinary for either good or bad. Like the phone, his abilities keep it very secure.
Backpack: Backpack to carry his computer, school supplies and books in--not that he needs the books as he retains everything he perceives, but it's all for the purposes of fitting in.
Abilities: (Please describe any powers and abilities that your character has that makes them stand out. This does not just include things applicable to combat: what skills and features define their abilities as a character?)
Android Physiology: Pretty much all his superhuman powers stem from just what he is. They include the following.
Super Durability and Strength: SAM, while human in appearance, is most certainly not--he was made to be so much more than that. His body is constructed of extremely durable and strong materials; underneath the synthetically grown hair and skin (which incidentally feel real because in a way, they are) are several layers of experimental alloys, with swarms of nanobots* woven in among them, as well as what passes for circuits and a CPU, though most of those functions are interwoven into the nanobots, too, which also repair his skin and machine parts when broken, and reinforce every part of his body to just in general make it difficult to harm him.
Photokineses: Built into every part of his surface and the nanobots are tiny photoreceptors that take in any ambient light to be projected out later through any part of his body. It can be used to simply create illusions, or form hard light constructions of anything SAM can understand. He is fully capable of forming complex machinery as long as he has enough light stored, and when he is finished with the light he can reabsorb most of it again for later use with only a small percentage of loss--but storage is also not infinite. He cannot simply recreate an entire office building, for example, as he would not ever be able to store so much energy at once. He can power himself indefinitely using this light energy he absorbs, which slowly consumes said energy over time.
Technology Interface: The nanobots allow him to directly interface with any machine he physically touches without having to plug into them or perform any other action a human would normally be required to perform to unlock them, allowing him to bypass pretty much all physically based security systems with ease, and fix them if they are damaged or broken given a little time. He can even, if he has enough power (and he usually does), charge them from his own energy reserves.
Perfect Recall: Being a machine programmed for infiltration, he was programmed with the ability to learn at a rapid pace, retain everything he perceives, and recall it perfectly at will. This includes multiple languages and forms of martial arts--and sports statistics, to the delight of those he befriends.
Adaptability: SAM, on top of already being formidable, was programmed to learn, grow, and adapt, not just mentally, but physically. If he is significantly damaged and/or faced with something his current skills and abilities cannot overcome, his body will adapt and change to try and compensate if he has enough time for the nanobots to reconfigure him--but there's no guarantee he will be the same on the other side. His appearance and self-identity may permanently change, he may lose or have altered memories, even his powers may not be the same after a transformation.
Interaction: SAM was deliberately designed to be capable of seamless infiltration--he can walk, talk, and act like the humans he encounters--but it is not perfect, his understanding of humans (and especially their emotions) is flawed, occasionally leading to some 'uncanny valley' moments where his inhuman nature is betrayed in word or deed. He is not malicious, he never knowingly hurts people, but he is very much not human and so his behavior can be extremely odd from a human perspective given the wrong circumstances. There is no guarantee that the lessons he internalizes in any interaction will be the right ones.
*Note on the nanobots--while capable of self-replicating, they are also programmed to draw from and give power to him only and nothing else, and thus go inert and break down if they get more than a few feet from his body. They are part of him, and he part of them, to prevent them growing out of control in any kind of gray goo scenario.
