Powers/Abilities:
As a Clone, Kaine possesses the same physiology and powers as Peter Parker, including:
superhuman strength, stamina, speed, durability, equilibrium, reflexes, agility, wall-crawling, and spider-sense.
Due to a flaw in his creation that led to cellular degeneration, Kaine noticed a difference, both in amplification and limitation of some of these powers, including unlocking new capabilities tied to several base powers. His unstable body is larger, stronger, faster - but it is not built to last. He experiences a great deal of pain throughout his daily life as his cells die and regrow at an alarming rate. The more of this process his body endures, the harder it becomes for Kaine’s emotional and mental balance to remain intact. Through the medical intervention of Swarm, he manages to keep the condition visibly at bay – at times thinking the worst of it may never come again. Of course, it always rears its head again.
Precognitive Spider-Sense: An enhancement of Peter’s Spider-Sense. Kaine literally sees flashes of the future, though they are limited scope, typically negative warnings, and preventable. They are potential futures if nothing is done about them, and sometimes he fails to keep bad things from coming to pass. More often than not, he just kills who he believes to be responsible for any horrid act he sees.
Mark of Kaine: A burning touch that stems from Peter’s wall-clinging ability. He can control this acutely, to the point of being able to use it to trim his hair and beard, or even cauterize wounds.
Limited Healing Factor: Sprung from increased durability and stamina. Minor injuries heal on their own in a short time, while more grievous injuries don’t take him down as soon or keep him down as long. As his body is constantly eating and healing itself, this power is always active. This can sometimes cause his immune system to work overtime similarly to Peter, but only because his cells can replace themselves at a rapid rate.
Webbing (Web-Shooters are for Suckers): Kaine does not use web shooters, able to produce his own silk webbing from his wrists.
Communication with Spiders: Kaine can communicate with Spiders and other insects, though it is more like he has a connection to them as he’s recognized as one of their own. This is not on an Ant-Man level, but they can answer simple questions and are willing to follow requests like finding the location of something hidden or gathering in a specific area.
He also possesses Spider-Sense immunity to Peter Parker and other clones.
Adept at Hand to Hand Combat
Field Experience with a Variety of Weapons, listed below
Genius-Level Intellect: “With an IQ north of 250,” in spite of Kaine’s short-lived existence and lack of experience his potential and brain do match that of the original Peter Parker.
Intellect-based Expertise and Muscle Memory in the areas of:
Investigation, Invention, Engineering, Photography, Acrobatics, Martial Arts
Weapons/Items:
Nothing consistent. He is very good with guns, blades, and fists. He’ll keep a gun or two for a short time if he finds it, as well as keeping a handgun and pocket knives he’s found in his apartment to come with if he needs them.
A Spider Tracer from Peter Parker, given to him on their last meeting. He keeps it deactivated unless he needs to be able to find Peter – at which point he activates it to draw him out.
Appearance
Image:
Physical Appearance:
Like Peter Parker but BIGGER. He has some key differences, including being 6’4” and 250 lbs. Longer brown hair that is always somehow disheveled, and slightly darker from less time in the sun. Paler skin. Some soft features on a hard frame, though his latent angry expression keeps him from appearing as Boyish as Peter can. His expressions rarely soften. He has intense, deep, large brown eyes. Sometimes his degeneration will cause flare-ups on his skin, typically affecting his face and hands first. His muscles are prominent, and he altogether strikes an imposing figure.
Clothing and Armor:
Things swiped from victims, empty houses, and donation bins. Hoodies, jeans, ratty t-shirts and tank tops, always in sneakers of some kind. Things he can leave behind at a second’s notice. He goes through shoes the most, kicking them off and not caring where they land.
Scarlet Spider Stealth Suit
The HIVE suit has a few different modes - when he is in stealth it is completely black to blend in with the night, and with a limited charge can turn completely invisible.
When he is visible, in his base suit, and patrolling or fighting crime, his suit is primarily a Scarlet red, which has earned him the cape name Scarlet Spider among the press. He isn’t particularly fond of the name. The red of the suit is cut into from the top with black in V’s going across his shoulders and up to follow his collar-bone. Where it meets in the middle, there is a black spider emblem on his chest. The fingers of his suit are Black and slightly pointed to look like claws, his headpiece is entirely black. The lenses on his suit are always Red, curved up with a sharp angle at the top distinguishing his eyes from that of other spiders.
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual
General Personality:
EDGY SAD BOY ONE OH ONE BABY
Kaine inherited the Will of Spider-Man with all of the misplaced direction to go with it. He is retribution. He is what does the job others can’t. The only thing he has ever known how to do is stop people from harming others. Violently, and Permanently. He has no illusions about what horrible things he does or what it takes to do them. He does not want or think anyone will ever see anything in him beyond what he sees in himself.
His purpose in life is to stop the things out there like him. He is a Monster who stops other Monsters. He is not a good person. He is not trying to be a good person. He is not a Hero. He is not Spider-Man.
He is a Monster. Who stops. Other. Monsters.
But maybe… One day, he could be something more.
He rejects the parts of himself that are like Peter Parker. He is reckless and does not plan ahead. He is quick with a quip but will often hold back. He is intelligent but doesn't broadcast it. He is not forethought. He is action.

History:
A Man woke up one day to confusion. An existence borne of pain, failure, and a blind rage. A need to hurt, to kill, and to save. Everything but this was in question. There was blood, more pain, pride, and blood again. This was the first two weeks of the Man’s life.
When the Man started to gain control of his senses, of his impulses… He realized there was still much he didn’t know. He was in and out of consciousness, and as he slowly grew aware, he realized he kept being brought back to the same place. This must be home, he thought. I must have brought myself here. There was a woman there, whom he did not want to kill. This was a strange realization for him. The people he’d been killing - they had all deserved it. They did wrong, bad things. They were like him. This woman was not like him. She did not deserve to die. So, he must protect her.
The Woman called him Kaine, and others called her Louise. She explained things to him. She treated him normally, what he could feel was a normal person’s life, even though he could not understand it. She told him things about her job, a detective in the city, and the cases she was working on. She told him about Spider-Man. She told him he was the same as Spider-Man, but he was the Original. And that no one knew him. She told him it was better this way - someone needed to do the things Spider-Man could not. And what a sad existence Peter Parker had, an unknowing clone of Kaine, trying to save the world time and time again. If only there was a way to make things easier for him.
So the Man called Kaine kept killing.
Things swiftly began to make more sense. Life went on - Kaine did his research and his duty. He learned everything he could about Peter Parker, sympathetic to his existence. Poor guy, taking all this on his shoulders and he wasn’t even the Original Spider. He learned of his relationships, his history, and his journey as Spider-Man through records, articles, databases, and anything else he could get his hands on. With his connection to Louise, he even had access to police force records. He found he had the same knowledge and intellect as Peter, even felt similar experiences, but not the same life. As Kaine’s cognition grew to a more distinct personality, so too did his killing MO. He spread the Mark of Kaine throughout New York - tackling enemies of his long-time girlfriend Louise and his clone Spider-Man and sending a message with each burned handprint on each body he didn’t tear through or dump in a harbor. Sure he ran into some conflict, even fought Spider-Man a time or two, but he couldn’t tell him this was all for him. And he was okay with that. This was what he was made for.
Then things began to hurt again.
The pain was confusing - it would flare up at random and affect his state of mind wildly. He would kill more viciously, and feel all the more power doing it. But his skin would show scarring and burning he did nothing to physically earn, and he could feel his cells eating away at him from the inside. It didn’t make sense. Nothing made sense.
But Kaine was smart. So he went digging. He experimented, broke into labs, tried to track things down himself… He was falling apart. Maybe this was why he’d been cloned… Things started clicking into place, and as he wrestled with himself on what he was going to tell Louise, he found something he hadn’t been looking for. He found the package of lies that had been fed to him the whole time - Louise was a detective, yes. But she also worked for a gang of criminals working under the scenes to profit off of the smuggling of illegal goods, weapons, and even people. Before he came to consciousness, Kaine Parker had not existed. He was not the original. He was the clone, a failed experimental clone at that, and Louise had been using him to clear the city of competition. 10 months he’d believed her, trusted her, held her. Kaine felt the pain surge as the same blind rage from his first moments of life overtook him.
Kaine truly loved Louise. And still, her body joined the rest of her organization, all life in it wiped clean from this Earth.
The broken Man called Kaine wanders the city, lost to his mind and circumstances again. It is in this wandering that a figure from his real past, not his false one, finally finds him again.
She was called Swarm, and she created him. She had lost him, had been looking for him, but could not find him because Louise had stolen him and hidden him away for her own gain. She took Kaine in, bringing him back to health, and even helping stave off the pain. His skin cleared of scars, the pain never gone, but at least dull and far away for the time being. He could look at himself in the mirror again, look at his hands without being reminded of their sins.
Swarm told him the truth she knew of things. How his mission, how he’d felt so right in it, had not been wrong. But the wrong people had taken his life and kept him in the dark about it. How she never wanted that - he had escaped those first nights, and Louise had gotten a tracker on him while he was passed out, then taken him back to her place and used his fragmented, nonexistent memory to feed him information about who they wanted him to think he was. It matched what he’d read of in his own file, so he didn’t question this.
But Swarm didn’t want to use him for her own gain. Swarm wanted to help him. Swarm cared for her creation. Still jaded and untrusting, Kaine would never admit how much that potential for approval from his creator meant to him. She knew he needed something new. A purpose. And she revealed to him something she’d wanted him to use for a long time - a Spider Suit of his own. She wanted what he did - a Spider to ease the presence of villains in New York, in a way that stuck. The prisons were overcrowded, and half of the people caught could buy or break their way out, and we all know what happens when Spider-Man gets overwhelmed. The city goes to shit.
He was a Monster. They both knew it. But she saw something in him, a potential to make a difference in a new way. Something that wasn’t just blindly killing wherever he was pointed. Sure, he still took her information and direction - she was a great resource in that regard. And more importantly, she kept the pain at bay when it would rear its ugly head, when he would lose his mind again, and she wouldn’t leave him when he went too far.
The Scarlet Spider had arrived in New York City.
Kaine has been the Scarlet Spider for 4 months. In that time, he’s done his fair share of hurting, maiming, and worse. But he’s also found himself more and more pulled into fighting villains. Whenever he runs into opposition when he’s on the bad side of things, he fights. Whenever he runs into opposition when he’s on the good side of things, he fights. Whether he’s killing or saving, he is always protecting what people and ideals he’s dedicated himself to. Violently. It’s all he knows how to do.
Three weeks ago, Kaine had an encounter with Spider-Man in which Peter realized he was the same killer he’d fought previously, and unmasked Kaine. Though there were differences due to his increased size and his muscles atrophying and regrowing constantly, there was no mistaking Peter was looking at his own face. Cornered, Kaine came clean about the nature of his existence as a clone, and how he had been guided into the degree of killing he did before through deceit and the greed of others. It would never make up for the lives he had taken, or the ones he may take in the future. But Peter deserved to know the truth. He wouldn’t tell Peter the name of his Creator, determined that if this was his last stand he would make it out or face retribution head on, even fight his way out if he needed to.
Surprisingly… Peter let him go. Maybe he just let Kaine escape when he made a move to, but if he did give chase it didn’t last long. Neither man sure where the other one stands, still trying to make sense of their lives and what this all means…
Role Play Sample:
There is a girl falling from a building. There is a criminal on the roof. And Kaine has a choice to make.
It's quick thinking – something he's pretty good at. Not always the thinking part. But the instincts? They kick in and he's sailing off the roof, one webshooter up to grab the guy and use his body pinned against iron railing to hold himself up when he soars down and catches the girl around the waist. He doesn't hear the snap of bone when the line of the web goes taut, but he does hear the pained yell from above as the screaming in his arms turns to a heavy sigh of relief. Hope that at least broke some ribs. If I'm lucky the bastard won't ever be able to walk again. A part of him surges, angry at himself for not finishing the job.
He swings down, rappelling off the wall with the girls' body pinned to his side, keeping her out of harm's way. They lower themselves to the ground, and he wraps the web around a post to keep the thug pinned. He was a kidnapper, and if his file was anything to go by, worse. He would deal with dead scumbags on his hands, but not dead kids.
At that, he finally remembers to put the girl down, watching her stumble a bit on her feet when he does. She looks up at him and he's immediately ready to turn and walk away when her big eyes sparkle up at him and she opens her gap-tooth mouth to speak. She's all sunshine and rainbows when she says, "Thank you, Spider-Man!"
There is a clear bristling as the man feels his hackles raise to the defensive. That name, being given it by a child who has no idea who he is, what he's done... Before he gives it a second thought, Kaine is roaring in her face.
"I AM NOT SPIDER-MAN."
The Scarlet Spider isn't supposed to be a Hero. He isn't supposed to save the day.
The girl looks startled for a moment, then confused. That's right, kid. That's the right reaction to me. You should be scared. Now, did he still have time to finish that guy off before the cops got there...
He's lost in his thoughts when he feels a little body thump into his leg, hugging around the trunk of it. "Well, thanks anyway, mister Spider!"
Kaine looks down, bewildered, but she's already skipping off. "Hey- Kid, what the hell, you've gotta wait for the cops! They're s'posed to get back to your parents!" he yells out after her, watching her scamper away without a care in the world, probably still riding the high of her life being saved. Kids that young were too damn resilient sometimes.
A gloved hand goes up to his head, scratching at what would be his hair if not for the black mask with its large red eyes, perfect for scaring the hell out of his enemies and the people he somehow saved along the way alike.
"I just don't get it..."
