The looming peaks of Orant cast long shadows across the foothills, providing slight respite from the heat of the afternoon sun as Emmanuel treads through the well-worn footpaths carved by nameless men and women long before he was even born. The trek from Lantern out to this point was largely uneventful, with him only needing to dispatch a few stray skeletons and the occasional wolf, chaff that posed so little threat he didn't even need to use his weapon to defeat them. Now that he is here he is on the hunt—and he likely won't have to look far, as the rumbling sounds of crumbling stone and a blood-chilling roar off in the distance doesn't exactly leave much to the imagination. If Emmanuel has a plan, now would be a good time to put it into action while the monster is unaware of his presence. Bloody hell... this essence infusion was some potent stuff. Even in his prime, Emmanuel could only manage what... fifteen, sixteen miles over a full day, with breaks? He'd been pushing twenty without breaking a sweat since first stepping outside Lantern's walls for the first time in his life, a memorable experience for any hunter. The hike to Orant's Peaks had been a few days of steady travel, much of it through the desolate wasteland that surrounded Lantern, at least until he reached the foothills noted in his bounty dossier. The local vermin didn't put up that much of a fight, Hordethinner never left it's place, slung across his shoulder, he made do perfectly well with his bare hands... and even got a little practice in with his new etching to pass the time. He marveled at how easily undead skulls shattered in his iron grip, and the few feral beasts that blocked his past made perfect knife targets... still couldn't get that bullet trick to work though.
It was a shame his bounty was a time sensitive one. His research on the region had detailed notes on the local survivor enclave, a fortress monastery high in the mountains, it would have been nice to be able to stop by; maybe barter for a little information with the disciples. Not like he would need it though, his wandering search through Orant's foothills quickly allowed him to zero in on his quarry, the errant crashing of foliage and thunderous bellowing of a mighty beast was sign aplenty that he was on the right trail. This troll... it would prove an interesting first trophy. the archives described it as a monolith of strength and bestial ferocity, with a regenerative ability not unlike his own... only significantly dulled. Whatever, a dumb brute like that was no match for the keen, tactical wit of a veteran soldier.
"Alright you big ape... let's see what you're made of." Against a beast that excelled in direct combat, Emmanuel knew his best chance of victory was to outwit it. He lacked the resources to exploit the troll's vital weakness to the frigid cold, an ice etching would've been a boon here. The troll's limited intellect was his next best option. Traps, and maybe an ambush were his next best option. He had limited ammo, enough shells from his free loadout for ten shots of Hordethinner, full auto was off the table. Immobilizing the beast would make a clean kill shot much easier, his trek had given him ample time to think up some creative uses of his metal etching to achieve this.
Like (ironically speaking) a stalking hunter, Emmanuel kept low and placed his steps carefully; tracing the feral roars of the troll to their source, while also monitoring the breeze, ensuring he stayed downwind of his prey. The last thing he wanted was for the troll to pick up his scent, and blow his cover. The element of surprise was one of his greatest advantages on this hunt.

Emmanuel's caution would prove effective as he stalks his way to where the beast resides. As he grew closer he'd find more and more damaged trees and shattered rocks in the wake of its rampage. Finally he'd crest a hill and get eyes on it. The beast was facing off against a particularly large boulder, repeatedly slamming its head against the stubborn stone. Based on the bloodstains it had been banging its head both literally and figeratively against it for quite some time at this point. It spontaneously lets out another roar and briefly clutches its head, before once again slamming its face into the boulder. It does not seem to notice Emmanuel's presence. Most of the rocks around the troll have already been smashed, with none of them being able to provide enough cover to hide Emmanuel from view. However he would see a couple broken trees that were thick enough to conceal him, but they were on the other side of the troll so he would have to either sneak past it or go the long way around if he wanted to get to a hiding spot that was closer. Of course with the beast occupied by its fierce head to head with the boulder he could probably sneak right up behind it if he was careful enough; however, based on the size of the creature and its hunched posture he would be hard-pressed to get a good shot at its head from behind. From atop the crest of the hill, Emmanuel finally laid eyes on the fearsome beast. The bounty dossier didn't do it justice. Even in it's hunched over pose it still stood almost twice his height, and had over a thousand pounds on him. The remaining cover at the edge of the forest gave him the reprieve to sit and study his quarry for a moment, working the meat of his plan over in his mind. With the Troll's size and speed, a head on assault would be practically suicide... ambushing the beast would be an issue too, much of the forest and the rocky clearing had been thoroughly leveled already, leaving no cover to exploit, save a few fallen trees on the opposite side. The Troll's regeneration was another issue, a drawn out battle would be troublesome at best, and he only had enough ammo for ten shots. Only clean kill shots would suffice here.
Within the relative safety of his hiding place Emmanuel's etching began to glow, as he began manifesting lengths of inch thick thick metal cable that spooled out of his palm. Through subtle manipulation he severed and wound this cable into several constricting loops, a few feet in diameter each, wide enough to comfortably slip around the meaty thighs of the Troll; a savage tourniquet. Emmanuel doubted he had enough cover to set up a more elaborate snare trap, his metal etching and the element of surprise would have to suffice.
Once his tourniquets were prepared he gathered up the looped cable and lobbed the pile in a scattering arc, dispersing half a dozen of these tourniquet traps across roughly a thirty foot area in the rubble beyond the tree line, hopefully immersed in the crushed rock just enough that the Troll wouldn't notice. Whether or not the echo of the scattering rock would alert the Troll mattered little to Emmanuel... the sound alone would make perfect bait to draw in his prey. With his trap set Emmanuel hunkered down amidst the underbrush, watching his quarry through the leaves with a patient, determined glare.
