Powers:
- Superhuman Speed: The ability to move his body at superhuman speed. It has been theorized that he could possibly reach ninety nine percent the speed of light (186,272 miles per second), although he has never traveled at anywhere near that speed. He can also move just a portion of his body at superhuman speed.
Heightened Reflexes: He possesses reflexes far far above the average human. His reflexes are great enough to keep up with his speed, letting him actually experience the world around him when moving that fast.
Accelerated Metabolism: He has a boosted metabolism, which helps him heal quicker, and fuel the speeds he’s capable of reaching. This also means he has to eat more than regular people. A lot more in fact.
Enhanced Durability: The toughness of Jean-Paul's entire body is durable enough to withstand wind, friction, air turbulence, and severe temperatures resulting from his speed.
G-Force Compensation: The ability to use his super speed to automatically compensate for any G-Force difference. - Flight: The ability to levitate, and move through the air unhindered by gravity. His speed can be applied when in flight.
- Photokinesis: Jean-Paul can generate white light from his own body to a maximum intensity of half a million foot-candles. He can control the intensity and from where the light is emitted.
- Concussive Blasts: The ability to generate and propel high velocity shock waves from his body, resulting in concussive force. He is capable of controlling and adjusting the amount of force generated, as well as from where it is emitted, and he can pair this with for example a punch or a kick to apply over-pressure and basically propel this attack through the air to his opponent. Or a light switch is he were to very carefully apply his ability and aimed very well. Though it’s more likely he would crack the wall.
Weapons/Items: Wallet, phone, keys, and spearmint gum.
Appearance
Physical Appearance:
Hair: Dark brown, mid length. He oftens sports a five o clock shadow.
Eyes: Blue.
Skin: Tanned.
Height: 5'8" (172cm).
Weight: 185 lbs (84 kg).
Build: Athletic.
Distinguishing Features: Square jaw, slightly pointy ears.
Clothing: Jean-Paul is most often seen in suits. He rarely wears casual clothes, and is always impeccably dressed in tailored clothes, unless he is working out, during which he will wear good quality, but looser clothes. He usually goes for darker colors which complement each other, but he’s been known to go wild with colors when the occasion calls for it. He will wear long coat if it gets very cold, but as his body is adapted to extreme temperatures he doesn't really need to go overboard.
Armor: Jean-Paul’s Northstar armor is made of durable material capable of withstanding the strain of his super speed. It’s black, tight fitting, and has prominent white star motifs around the neck opening, on the right side of his waist, as well as the edgest of his white gloves and boots.
Personality
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual.
General Personality: Jean-Paul is a very active person who cares very much about physical activities. He makes sure to exercise every day, and when not in his room working on some project, he can be found on a jog (in spite of his super speed), working on the uneven bars, swimming, playing sports with the kids, or doing his new favorite activity: dancing. He has a great understanding of the human body and which muscles are used during particular work outs, which leaves him often correcting the bad form of others, whether they want it or not. It's in their best interest and that is why he is speaking up, they should be happy that someone cares to save their bodies from horrible injuries later on.
When he speaks, he is always very straight to the point, doesn't beat around the bush, and has a terrible sense of dark humor he has trouble keeping from seeping into everything he says. Sarcasm is like a second language to him, and he delivers it with such a sharp tongue and a straight face, that his jokes are sometimes mistaken for insults, and he comes across as rude and arrogant. He will show irritation quite easily, letting his sarcasm deliver it instead of getting entirely pent up with unresolved rage. Jean-Paul does not care overly much about the opinions others may have of him – he knows himself, and if people wish to be coddled with sweet nothings and useless pandering, he is not the guy for the job.
In spite of his sharp wit and rude deliveries, he is generally a polite and well-behaved young man. He will offer help to those who need it, especially children and the elderly, and he will stand up for anyone being mistreated if he is around to experience it, or he has enough information to go on, to be able to give proper assistance. He has a big heart, and has been known to perform extraordinary feats of kindness and compassion. He has visited many children's wards at hospitals, sponsored sports coaching and fitness events, fostered several animals, and works with the Make-a-Wish Foundation frequently.
He is a very passionate man, and that sometimes gets away from him. He has a tendency to bury himself in his work, whatever that might be at the moment, and it is hard to pull him out of it once he's fallen into it. He is capable of conjuring up an amazing amount of focus when he has a goal in mind, but he can also very easily get tunnel vision while pursuing it, leaving him unable to see the forest for all the trees. He is usually very reasonable and enjoys a good discussion, but when in these moods, he will lash out angrily, and be testy for a while.
In spite of his generally very (perceived) hostile behavior, it really takes a lot to truly anger him. While he will complain and highlight bothersome circumstances and things which irritate him, he really just likes to complain, and most of what he says shouldn't be taken to heart. However, if you step on his morals, hurt those he considers friends, physical or otherwise, he will not stand for it, and you might witness real anger for once.
Face/Voice: Matt Bomer.
Character's History
Siblings: Jeanne-Marie Beaubier (Twin sister).
Mother: Amandine Beaubier (Deceased).
Father: Jean-Babtiste Beaubier (Deceased).
Other Family: Louis and Genevieve Martin (First cousins once removed, adopted parents - Deceased)
History: When Jean-Paul was just an infant, his parents were killed in a car crash. He was adopted by distant family members, who would not take his twin sister Jeanne-Marie too. He has never been told that he was adopted, or that he ever had a sister.
Jean-Paul was lonely growing up, and acted out both in school and at home, getting him in trouble quite often. He would get in fights, run away, and commit petty crimes for which he was, thankfully, never caught. Well, until he attempted to pickpocket a man who caught him, literally: grabbed him by the hand and nearly lifted him off the ground.
The man was named Raymonde, and in spite of being a career criminal involved in shady business all over Montreal, he took pity on the teen and took him in. Jean-Paul had been struggling with his emerging mutant abilities, and under the guidance of Raymonde, he learned to control and hone them, though his 'Mentor' actually directed him away from the criminal life, and inspired the teenager to aspire for more in life.
Jean-Paul left Raymonde and Canada when he was 15, flying to France on his own to join a circus as an acrobat for a couple of years. He returned to Quebec to join a radical separatist movement called "Le Front de Liberation du Quebec" in an attempt to satisfy his nationalist feelings, and fractured sense of belonging. He discovered terrorist activities being committed by the group, and turned on them after stopping their attempt to blow up a bus. With no official record that he was ever affiliated with them, Jean-Paul reported what he could anonymously and left.
Having always had a passion for skiing, even during his younger years, Jean-Paul decided to turn his hobby into a career, and trained rigorously to get better, determined not to let his speed interfere with his performance when he was competing. He quickly became a world class skier, representing Canada in the Olympics (and winning), and earned the nickname "The Northstar". With the fame (and money) he earned, he made sure to publicly endorse youth groups and centers, participate in events to bring awareness to the need for guidance and counseling for teens especially.
Four years would pass before Jean-Paul participated in the Olympics (and won) again, but the excitement of winning was short-lived, as he felt bored with it all, knowing he was capable of feats much greater if he just applied his abilities. He retired from skiing, wealthy enough from various endorsement deals to live comfortably for the rest of his life without having to lift a finger. It was at this time he decided to host a press conference and come out as homosexual on national television and pledge his support (and money) to various LGBT groups dedicated to spreading awareness and equality.
It was during his work with one such organization that he became aware of the fact that he had a twin sister, Jeanne-Marie or Aurora, who was a member of one of the Canadian government’s 3 superhero teams: “Alpha Flight”. He applied to join the team to be closer to his new found sister, and even modeled his costume to match hers once he was accepted after a grueling try-out. He was a popular addition to the team, not only for his abilities which were discovered to be greater when used in conjunction with his sisters, and his skill with using them, but also because of his preexisting popularity as a humanitarian, a world-class athlete, and openly homosexual man, now openly homosexual mutant too.
3 years later he left the team, dissatisfied with working for the government, and the constraints and bureaucracy involved therein. He reached out to his former teammate from Alpha Flight, Wolverine, who was now a part of the X-Men and working at Xavier’s Institute, to see if they wanted his help, both with fighting and teaching. He wanted to make a difference at a different level too – he wanted to help guide children and teens who would otherwise be ostracized and misunderstood by their peers, to live their best lives.
He now teaches French and PE at Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters, and is a member of the X-Men, while continuing his humanitarian work.
Role Play Sample: Jean-Paul grins widely as the Event Staff takes a picture of him and the teenage girl he’s currently embracing. He thanks her for her support while he lets go, and waves as she goes to get her phone back from the staffer, nearly stumbling over her feet in her haste to return the wave, get her phone, and thank him for the picture at the same time.
He loves these kinds of events. He gets to spend all day meeting fans, talking about sports in general, skiing in particular, and give advice to hopeful youngsters who dream of one day becoming Olympians themselves. And the joy on those people’s faces when he pulls them into a hug from where they would be awkwardly standing, hover-handing his side in fear of being too pushy when asking for a picture .. He stores those happy faces away in his memory for a rainy day or when he’s getting pestered by pointless questions for hours by “journalists” who won’t leave him alone and won’t accept his answers. He’s chosen this life for himself, skiing, the sponsorships, the red carpet walks, the whole deal and he has to just take the bad with the good.
His attention is brought back to the present when a young woman approaches him, having already handed her phone to the staffer who is ready to take a photo. The woman doesn’t need encouragement to embrace him like some of his fans do, she’s holding him tight before he even gets a chance to greet her properly. Their photo is taken, and as they part, the woman shakes her hand, passing something into his hand. He frowns as he looks at what he’s just been handed: a keycard to a hotel in the area, and a piece of paper with a room number, signed with a lipstick kiss. Discretely, he tars the paper in such a way that the number isn’t readable and throws it in the trash along with the key card which he sends a subtle shock through to render it unusable. He breathes deep before he smiles brightly at the next fan in line. The bad with the good ..
