Black Cat's hands come up to wrap around her arms as she leans forward, peeking over the edge of the rooftop as if she could pick out the Spider in all the little lights below her. Strands of pale hair lift, falling over her shoulders and she steps back again in obvious confusion.
This is not the first or even the 3rd time that the newest Spider has managed to give her the slip. Every time she thinks that she has him in her sights, she glances away and he disappears as if he was never there to begin with. Her lips purse in something akin to a pout as she looks across any neighboring rooftops. They, much like the one she stands on, are empty of movement and life.
Felicia sighs to herself, shoulders falling with the motion and she tips her head towards the sky as if the heavens could possibly have her answer. She mumbles to the world at large, "I could have sworn- How hard can it be to locate a Spider?"

Kaine knew Cats hunted Spiders. He didn't think this one would take it so literally.
This had to be at least the 3rd or 4th time by now he'd had to get out of dodge to avoid the white-haired thief. What he didn't get was why, when she spotted him, she didn't go running for the hills. Instead, every new time she'd managed to see him or they crossed paths, she'd tried and succeeded to get closer to actually crossing his path. This time he didn't even make it off of the roof before she landed, clearly looking for him. He'd had to engage his stealth suit and stand invisibly out of her way, relying on his Spider-Sense to move just in time for her not to graze past him - lucky cat.
He held his breath at the near miss, watching her silently as goes to the edge and leans on it, looking almost wistful in the glow of the city illuminating her in a soft glow from below. She was a staple in the city, and had a history with Spider-Man. Did she think he was him in a new suit? There were other Spiders in the city, he could've just as easily been one of them. He finds himself slowly approaching, looming invisibly just behind her, watching her face for any reaction or tell to what she might be thinking.
She pouts and sighs, and then speaks. Sensing the perfect opportunity to get to the bottom of what her play was, he is only five feet to her diagonal over her shoulder when he drops his invisibility and speaks. An easy distance for him to cross to her vulnerable position within seconds. "Depends which one the Cat's trying to catch," he says, as drily as he can manage, his arms crossed lazily in front of his chest and stance leaned back into his hips. He is always ready to switch to the offensive, the slight tension in his shoulders giving him away, so his words come across like a warning and interrogative anyways.

Felicia blinks at the night sky for a moment, wondering if she should start going to church. She tips her head back a bit further, looking for him and her pout slips into a smile when she spots him. Cat slowly turns her body to face him, keeping her eyes on him the whole time. She isn't going to let him disappear this time.
"Why does the Spider answer as if he doesn't know," she says easily as she brushes her hair back over her shoulder. Curiosity burns in her gaze as she takes him. Shoulders, waist, knees, weird spider shoes she'll never understand, and back. Cat bites her lips for a moment, trying to pull her thoughts together and clearly looking like she's on the satisfaction part of the old saying.
"Why did you make it so hard," she asks sincerely as she rubs her hands over her arms again, trying to fight off the chill. Sooner or later, she was going to need to change her outfit into something more suited for late-night rooftop meetings. "One would think you were scared of me, Itsy-Bitsy Spider."

Finally, he'd get to the bottom of this. There wasn't anything he could offer her, and once she figured that out she'd stop chasing after him, and he'd get back to - wait why was she smiling? And not running. The fuck, she looked happy to see him... She looks him over and he tenses somewhat, trying to read her intentions. His eyes sweep over her in turn. She looked... cold.
Her words aren't what he expects either. They make it sound like she's in control of this situation, like he didn't just choose to step out. Did she know he was here? No, she seemed genuinely surprised he was... You've mistaken genuine before, Kaine. Don't get caught up.
The fabric of his mask pulls up as he raises an eyebrow. Her... little name for him has him scoffing and his eyes narrow, staying locked on hers now. He is quiet for a moment as he calculates his next response. "... Who do you think I am?"

Cat's tongue wets her lips and she can't help bitting it and her lip as he scoffs at her. Oh, he's already so fun to tease and she's barely gotten any words out of him already. She brings a gloved hand up in a half-assed attempt to cover her grin.
"I know you're a Spider. A tall, elusive Spider, handsome." Felicia crosses her arms over her chest much like he did. Unlike him, her stance would not be easy to translate into a fight and instead radiates confidence. It is so terribly easy to tell that she does not see him as a threat. She tips her head a bit as she examines him again, grey eyes going a little slower this time.
"Surely, you don't think I could confuse the Itsy-Bitsy Spider with anyone else," she says with something like mock, playful offense. Yes, this encounter is already proving to be worth the effort it took to initiate it. "Though, I understand if I'm a bit too intimidating. After all, I am the Big Bad Cat."

"So you don't know."
Kaine shakes his head. His arms are still crossed, and his voice is dead serious in spite of the playful energy she's coming at him with. "It's better that way. You shouldn't be trying to find out," he continues, warning palpable in his tone. She may not see him as a threat, but that didn't mean he wasn't one. Her second once-over of him only solidifies his impression: she severely lacked self-preservation.
Her misplaced confidence had him fighting reactions of amusement, irritation, and confusion. "I think you've got those reversed, kitty cat," he says, amusement winning out at the absurdity. He quickly catches himself and drops the tone, hardening again. "What do you want?" It's colder and rougher than before, disguising his confusion with a demand for explanation.

The unbearable need to know, to understand, creeps into her chest and takes root along her ribs. Itsy-Bitsy is clearly hiding something interesting. At least, he must think it's interesting enough to imply she shouldn't know.
If only he knew how much he was provoking her into trying to find out.
"Not knowing is half the fun, Spider," Felicia replies. A spark of amusement and satisfaction flashes across her expression as he teases back. She hadn't been sure this Spider would banter back and she's thrilled to hear it.
" I want lots of things," she says easily, tone a little too innocent as she looks up at him. Even in her heels, their height difference is nearly 12 inches. Radiating confidence, Cat takes a slow step closer to him and her gaze is curious and challenging. " I wanted to meet the new spider swinging around. I've met him. Now, I want to know a little more about him. Why do you do it, Big Bad Spider? Why do you try to help?"

Nothing he said was making her look less interested. Or discouraging her. No, instead the crazy cat lady was looking more invested in whatever game she was playing. Her eyes catch the light, and if they hadn't been in a skin-tight suit, the hairs on his arms would've raised. Even with neither of them moving, it felt like she'd honed in and closed the distance somehow, victory still plain on her face.
Then she continues, and does move forward, and the eyes of his mask narrow shrewdly. That's it? He has to fight the urge to move, shoulders tensing upwards as her words make him bristle. He can't tell if he wants lean away or further in, and doesn't trust his instinct to choose.
"I don't help." His voice comes out so suddenly it grates through a rough place that tears through his vocal chords. It is angry at the notion, and forceful in the assertion that is isn't true. He tried helping. That wasn't him anymore. "I do what needs to be done." He supplies cryptically.
"Why do you steal, Black Cat?" He turns the question on her, confirming he knows exactly who she is.

She notices the way his shoulders tense and his eyes narrow. Felicia keeps her body loose and soft, her approach slow and demure. The low lights of the city catch her hair, illuminating the pale strands as she takes a steady step closer.
When his words fill the space between them, she finds that they sear into her skin and sink deep enough to stroke a few forgotten cords. Cat bites her lower lip as her gaze falls to his shoulders, tracing down his arms to his hands and back to his face. If only he knew that he was pulling her deeper under the surface.
"You know, Spider. If someone thanks you, it usually means you assisted them," she remarks as she inches a third step closer to him. His question catches her by surprise and she grins in reply.
"I steal for the thrill of the heist. It was never about the money but about the rush of the job and the satisfaction of a job well done. I haven't found anything better than that." She keeps her arms crossed lazily over her chest. "What needs to be done, Spider, and why do you do it? Do you ever think of doing something else?"
One more little step.

Kaine watches her approach, steadily becoming more unsure if he was still predator or had become prey. He'd confronted the cat, made it clear he was not to be messed with, and when she should be running with her tail between her legs instead she was stepping forward with her lip in her teeth... At long last, Kaine started to realize this flirtation game she was playing might really be her only motivation here. Maybe she just really liked Spiders.
Still, he couldn't trust it.
She mentions him being thanked, and she gets an expression that somehow reads as blank as the mask covering it. Before long, he remembers the kid who hugged his leg. She'd seen that? And this was supposed to be a big city... He doesn't acknowledge it, but his eyes narrow again.
He doesn't back down, even as she's only one step away from him now. No, he listens to her answer and grows more incredulous with every word. The thrill? Really? He looks incredibly skeptical, but something about how she describes the rush and satisfaction of a job well done resonates anyways. "You do this for fun? Like it's a hobby?" he asks, judgement of how ridiculous that sounded to him clear in his tone, skirting past the part he does understand in an effort to not let her in that close.
"... There are bad people out tonight, Black Cat. Every night. Ones that do more than lifting some valuables off of some poor sucker or store," he says. "Ones that don't go away even after they're put down, again and again. That won't stop causing harm. They never will. Real Monsters".
"I'm one of them. And I'm doing what someone's going to have to do to me one day."
"I'm putting a stop to it."

Felicia licks her lip, easing where she had bitten into it as he speaks and her tone is almost challenging, "Is there something wrong with it being a hobby, Big Boy?"
She pauses as he speaks, grey eyes on his face as if she can see his expression right through the black material. Felicia has heard the spiel about bad people and being out in order to stop them. She isn't ready to hear that the Spider is only after those who commit serious, repeated crimes. It puts a new spin on his activities.
More so when he heavily implies that he's added to the number of bodies in the bay. Her expression is a very practiced neutral and she lets those words sink in. Itsy-Bitsy was a murder. It's something she knows for sure that Spidey would never do.
Felicia looks at him for a long moment and then she takes that last step forward, movement slow and exacting. They're close enough that their crossed arms are pressed to each other. Cat has to crane her neck to look up at him, hair falling to the side as she tips her head.
"You're putting people down," she offers quietly into the space between them and she lifts one hand to rest her palm on his chest. A slow smirk crosses her lips and she speaks in a lower tone, "I could put you down if you need. Preferably in a bed, Spider."
It is crystal clear that she isn't joking.

That's right. Let it sink in. He watches and waits for her to finally get it. He was not something you chased or played with; he did the chasing. If she knew what was good for her, she'd get the message and – why was she getting closer? Their elbows brushed, then met more solidly, and he glanced down at them, too taken aback to even register confusion.
She kept going, and his eyebrows raised. Her palm made contact with his chest, and he watches intently as she smirks. How the hell... was he supposed to do this? He looked down at her and for the first time saw the face of the woman in front of him, not the thief or the threat. The face getting closer, large grey eyes looking up at him. For a moment, the eyes and hair in front of him turn brown and loving orchestrating, then lifeless. He blinks and snaps back to reality, her white hair shining in the light.
After that suspended moment, that hint of weakness, his defenses raise again. "Another hobby? If that's what you're here for, there are plenty of Spiders around. Why not ask them?" he says, bristling. In spite of his words, his tone has lowered and he does not move.

He's adorable when he's confused, Felicia decides as he looks down at where their arms touch. More so when he watches her so very carefully as her hand rests on his chest and she can feel his heart rate spike sharply. Her head tips to the side as it keeps climbing and she notices that he's not moving at all.
Her eyebrows pull over her eyes in concern, all of her teasing nature falling away immediately in favor of worry. Felicia doesn't move as she waits for him to snap out of wherever his mind has gone, afraid that moving closer or further away would freak him out.
Spider's words brush over her cheek and she almost can't hear his tone over the need to make sure he is okay. Sincerity rings in her voice as she speaks, "Hey, big guy, you okay in there? If you want me to stop touching you, I will." Cat hears herself and quickly tries to cover it up with more jokes and flirts and a saucy little smirk that doesn't quite make it past 'concerned friend'.
"Why would I ask another Spider when you're the one I want? Don't tell me the Big Bad Spider is afraid of little kitty cats."

She speaks. Shit. She knows. He doesn't know how, but she knows. Alarm bells are ringing in Kaine's head. Get out. Get out. Get out. He doesn't move. Can't show weakness. But there's fire in his blood and he can't tell if it's the adrenaline spike or the need for another dose. The skin touching his suit gets hit by a wave of wrong. It's not Spider-Sense - it's as if it could fall off bit by bit if he didn't hold it together. The only place it feels like hasn't started a cold sweat is where her hand is pressed to his chest.
""I'm fine,"" he clips. He doesn't sound like he understands what fine means right now, but whatever motions he's going through are strictly internal. ""I don't care what you do."" It's a piss-poor attempt at 'you're fine. don't move.' He has no real assurances. None he can make sense of, and doesn't know why he tries to. The concern in her voice would taste like bile and ichor in his. He swallows and forces his heartbeat to calm, even as his palms itch.
It was a quiet night. He'd have to change that.
Just, not where she was. He can't bring himself to shake his head, but he still answers, ""I'm not the one you want. You can't trust me for shit, but you can trust that. I don't know what instincts you've got, but apparently you can't trust those either. I am not something you mess around with, little kitty cat. I'm a loaded weapon.""
He takes a step back, and that cold sweat feeling spreads where she isn't touching anymore. He does his best to ignore that.

Felicia can't stop her uncertainty from lining her concern like messily applied eyeliner. Spider says he is fine, but she knows very well that 'fine' can mean almost anything. Hell, her version often means that she is one good shove from spiraling into the abyss. He gives her another dismissive reply and that only amplifies her confusion when she notices him swallow, her gaze dropping for a moment to his throat and back.
There is an argument building on her tongue as he talks so poorly about himself, and she dismisses any questions about why she would want to defend him. It just feels like the right thing to do at this moment- and then he calls her little kitty cat and her lips twitch into a surprised half smile.
"I'm not-" her words cut off as he starts to move and her hand instinctively follows him. Felicia has to force her arm to freeze and her fingertips are the last thing to touch his chest. Then he is outside her reach. The corners of her mouth drop, twisting down into a trembling frown as she realizes that she must have misunderstood somehow. She had tried so hard to understand.
Hurt paints itself over the worry and confusion in those big grey eyes as they look up at the Spider. Her hand hovers in the space between them a moment longer before she curls it to her chest. She chews her lip as stress lines her shoulders and she fails to push it down. She looks cold again. "I want to help, but, you won't take it, will you?"
Felicia sounds so delicate and reluctant, "This is where you run away, right, Spider? Don't wanna...miss your queue."
