General Information
Name: Kitana Tenshi
Identity: Kitsune
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Date of Birth: July 7th
Place of Origin: Japan
Occupation: Vigilante
Faction:
Appearance
Visual Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Kitana sports cherry blossom colored hair and an average height of 5'2" (158 cm). Her eyes change color depending on lighting and if she's using her quirk, but are typically a soft green color. She has a modest figure, but wears a binder when in her shrine maiden outfit. Most notable of all are her fox tail and ears, courtesy of her quirk, the tail's fur matching her hair color but fading to a shade of yellow the further from the base of the tail it goes. She's also in excellent shape from her training to prepare for hero school, though she's not all that muscular as her combat style emphasizes speed and technique over power.
Civilian Clothes: Kitana wears t-shirts and jackets for the most part when she's not wearing her shrine maiden uniform, she dresses casually, and for comfort and ease of movement. She tends to avoid any brand-name clothes as she often rips or tears clothing when using her quirk and brushing up against objects while moving at high speed.
Hero Outfit:
Padded clothes - Kitana can't currently afford to buy proper armor, but she wears multiple layers of clothing underneath her disguise when doing vigilante work to provide some resistance to slashing and blunt attacks, as well as protecting her if she scrapes up against rough surfaces while using her quirk. While they work well enough against knife slashes and fists, they do little to stop stab wounds beyond adding a couple of inches of material that slightly reduces the depth of the inevitable wound, and they aren't made with defense in mind, so heavier weapons render them moot.
Knives - since her quirk isn't very effective at dealing damage unless she's throwing something, Kitana invested into getting a variety of knives suitable for throwing with her quirk. Their quality varies, but only one is a proper combat knife that can be used in melee. She tends to use it purely defensively though, as it was rather expensive compared to her meager budget and she really doesn't want to risk breaking it if she can avoid it
First aid kit - severely lacking in contents compared to what most actual heroes might carry, Kitana carries around basic medical supplies like disinfectant and bandages in a small first aid kit, to either patch herself or civilians up until more thorough medical treatment can be administered.
Personality
Bad Habits:
-Kitana has a very hard time concealing how she's feeling, her ears and tail giving obvious tells
- Can be easily bribed with sweets, as she didn't get to have many at home
- Has a tendency to flirt, but gets very flustered when someone flirts back
- Her tail is very sensitive and she freaks out and becomes flustered if people grab it.
Goal: Mastering her quirk and becoming a hero, using her power to help people instead of remaining isolated like her family
General Personality: Kitana is a bundle of energy, a tomboy, and a ray of sunshine. Relentlessly cheerful, energetic, and supportive of those around her, she's the shining light in any room she enters, and the wellspring of positivity and hope even in the darkest of situations. It takes a lot to sour her mood, and even when she becomes upset she usually bounces right back before too long. Part of her energy is that a lot of modern Japan is new to her, her family living a very secluded and traditional lifestyle, so living in the city is a big shift for her.
Kitana is also a bit of a flirt, she loves the idea of romance and everything that goes with it... but she has no experience with it at all as back home nobody would've dared reciprocate any of her advances while she was a shrine maiden. And so while she flirts and teases, whenever someone reciprocates she has no clue what to do with herself and becomes a flustered mess. She hopes that with more exposure she'll get the hang of actually handling being flirted with instead of only being able to be the flirter.
Kitana has a strong sense of justice and morality, refusing to stand idly by while others are being hurt or mistreated, and believing she has a duty to help others whenever she is able to do so. This can result in her sometimes being a bit reckless, inserting herself into situations she might not be able to handle, or simply overexerting herself trying to help as many people as possible without taking enough time to take care of herself.
Personal Life
Mother: Miko Tenshi, quirk - Kitsune's Blessing - Very similar to Kitana's, but with the added trait that Miko's father passed down a potent healing quirk to her, giving her the ability to heal people from almost any injuries or illnesses.
Father: Osahu Tenshi, quirk - Kitsune, Osashu is a fox man, with heightened speed, reflexes, and the physical traits of a fox.
Siblings:
Extended family: Great-Great Grandma, Saigyu Tenshi (deceased), quirk- Kitsune's Blessing
History:
Kitana was born to a very rural and very traditional and insular family in the mountains of Japan. For many generations her quirk has been passed down through her family. Many generations ago her family settled down in the kitsune shrine in these mountains due to their shared quirk. It is one of the few quirks that seems to be tied to dominant genes, and typically manifests in at minimum every female child in the family, and often also the male children. There were some exceptions over the years, but those exceptions were the black sheep of the family tree, as over the generations they have come to view this quirk as a divine boon granted to them by the Kitsune spirits of the shrine, meant for them to continue caring for the shrine. Despite the quirk being quite powerful when mastered, the family has kept to itself and largely stayed out of the hero business, only helping those who've taken a pilgrimage to their shrine in the mountains.
Over the years, the family gradually grew towards a cult status. Part of this was due to the dominance of the quirk being passed down so relaibly making it seem more like a divine gift than a scientific one, and part was due to minor variations in the quirk caused by outside genes lending themselves to various heads of the family performing "miracles." More enterprising members of the family leaned into this over the generations, building the family's wealth and influence in the rural areas of Japan. Being "divine" became the family business, and every member of the family was expected to contribute. The female members expected to become shrine maidens and serve as the face of their cult, while the males served as background roles or were married into the family for the quirk factors they could provide.
The exception was Kitana's great-great-grandmother, who was a very popular hero a few generations back, but the family did not and still does not approve of her decision to pursue that lifestyle in lieu of her sacred duties as a shrine maiden. Kitana herself did not learn of her existence for many years, as the family did it's best to pretend she never existed lest any future generations get the notion to follow suit.
From a young age, Kitana was trained and raised to be a shrine maiden, as her mother's only child she was never given a choice about the path she would follow. Just another generation in the family traditions and nothing more. But she was spirited, inheriting much of her father's energy and foxy cleverness, which was encouraged by her father. This led to a tense marriage between her parents, as Kitana frequently skipped out on her shrine maiden training to go play or explore, or worse yet to entertain ideas of being something other than a shrine maiden! Her mother and extended family tried hard to crack down on her, but the more they tried to restrict the young girl the more rebellious she became. A quiet and selfish life living in the mountains and only helping others who bought the cult's messaging or who could pay enough money wasn't for her. In fact she actively criticized her elders for their selfish lifestyle, fully aware of how much good they could do if they left their mountain and went to help others actively.
At around age 8 Kitana learned about her ancestor Saigyu Tenshi, and how she'd been blacklisted from the family for being a hero who went out into the world and helped others, instead of tending to the shrine and its visitors alone. This discovery both inspired and infuriated Kitana. She'd already disliked the insular and traditional life of her family, but to hear they not only withheld their aid from the world but punished those who broke rank? If Kitana had been rebellious before, she was in open revolt now.
Over the coming years her initial fire seemed to die down and she learned to play nice with her family. Learning all the things they wanted her to learn to keep them off her back, but all the while biding her time and -secretly planning to leave the shrine and go become a hero just like her ancestor had. She knew the family would blacklist her for it, and she would have no home to return to... but her father supported her in this. His had been an arranged marriage, as the family only accepted those with quirks deemed useful to the bloodline, or fox related quirks to better insure the family quirk remained undiluted. Quirk marriages became standard practice, even after they were outlawed, with very few genuine relationships among the family heads. He was little more to them than a baby generator for the next generation of maidens. He didn't align with them philosophically or culturally, and so he helped make all the arrangements for Kitana to be sent to apply to UA in secret.
Unfortunately not everything went according to plan. Kitana's mother Miko caught onto their plan to escape too soon and prevented the application to UA from going through. To make matters worse, due to Miko having inherited a healing aspect to her quirk that bordered on miraculous, the family under her stewardship was more influential than ever before. With her now vigilant towards the plan, it became near impossible to apply to UA without her throwing her weight around to pull Kitana right back out. She could afford the best lawyers to ensure any custody battle between her and her husband went her way, and as Kitana's legal guardian she would be able to pull her out of UA easily.
Despite this, Kitana and her father decided to flee the family home regardless, fleeing to Tokyo under false identities and going into hiding. Her father was able to secure a decent enough job to get them an apartment to live in, but couldn't secure anything better without there being too much scrutiny on his false ID. With the low income barely making ends meet, paying for any sort of lesser known private hero school that wouldn't ask questions about her ID, and enough discretion to escape Miko's notice was also out of the question. Kitana was freed from her family's oppressive control over her life, but she had no avenue to become a hero like she wanted.
Rather than give up though, Kitana figured she may as well double down. If she was already going to be breaking the law by using a false ID she might as well go all in and become a vigilante too. It would let her train her quirk and help people like she wanted, and once she was old enough to declare independence from her mother legally she could see about taking the provisional license exam and interning with a proper hero. Nothing said you HAD to be from a hero school to take the test after all... she just needed to grow strong enough without all the resources and training UA could've provided her... a harder road to be sure, but if the only path to her dream was this she'd just have to suck it up.
Now Kitana acts as an inexperienced but earnest new vigilante on the streets. Using what little equipment she could afford with the limited income she and her father could bring in, and trying her best to become a proper hero one day, free from the shackles of her family.
Quirk
Name: Kitsune's Blessing
Quirk Type: Emitter
Power: Kitana can produce a glowing blue energy that she can infuse either into her body or other things. The quirk has the tendency to manifest secondary traits once mastered from the long list of ancestors with powerful quirks being bred into the family, but as of this moment apart from the fox mutations common in her family giving her slightly enhanced senses and physique, Kitana has yet to discover what, if any, secondary trait might manifest for her.
The base ability of her quirk and the energy it produces is a form of mass manipulation. People or objects infused with the energy have their weight reduced dramatically, and when a force is applied to them they accelerate rapidly, allowing for bursts of super speed for as long as the energy infuses them. Kitana must have physical contact with targets she wishes to affect in this way in order to accelerate them. If contact is broken, the affected targets retain their momentum, but their mass returns to them and they do not accelerate further, instead being gradually slowed by air resistance and gravity as normal for targets of their size and weight.
The limit of how much mass Kitana can lighten and accelerate depends on training, inanimate objects are somewhat easier to affect than organic beings other than herself, Kitana also can not affect any organic person who mentally resists the energy. While there is a brief window of effect based on reaction times from her target. The most she can do to a living target who wishes to reject her quirk's influence would be possibly pushing them back slightly unless catching them by surprise
Supermoves: Kitana does not currently have any supermoves
Drawbacks:
Straight lines - Kitana's quirk can accelerate her or her targets to incredible speeds, however the nature of how it does so greatly limits the potential trajectories of that movement. In most cases, unless throwing something like a ball that can be given spin to curve mid-flight, Kitana can only accelerate herself or other things in straight lines, this allows savvy enemies to potentially cut off her escape routes or predict her movements (or some combination of both) despite her super speed. It also makes certain environments potentially hard to use her quirk in.
Sight reliant - Kitana has to be able to see where she is moving before initiating a 'jump'. During the jump she is moving at incredible speeds, and is almost entirely blind to the world during transit, and thus each jump required complex physics calculations to precisely determine how long to make each burst of super speed so she can control where she ends up. And so naturally, attempting to jump while blinded or otherwise unable to collect all the data needed for her calculations (be that due to a flashbang, smokescreen, complete darkness, etc...) is absurdly risky. While she can attempt to calculate how far to travel before stopping without visual data, if she gets it wrong or there is an unseen obstacle she could easily end up slamming into a wall or other object at super speed.
Jump perception delay - Kitana has to plan out how long she's going to accelerate for, to what location, what direction, etc... and while she's accelerated it is much more difficult to perceive her surroundings. This can result in moments of vulnerability after each "jump" as her spatial-awareness catches back up to where she's moved to, the longer the distance and duration of her super speed the more severe this issue becomes. This issue is also intensified if Kitana makes multiple jumps in succession, which in conjunction with the fact that rapid fire jumps gives her vertigo, and she can leave herself wide open to attack if she's not careful
Body Limitations - The energy powering Kitana's jumps makes her fast, but not strong. Furthermore it makes her very light while moving, preventing her from simply accelerating into someone to gain power from her velocity. Even if she were to briefly accelerate and cut off her jump and simply use her momentum coming out of it to launch a high velocity punch or kick, she would need specialized support gear to prevent such a gambit from shattering or at least fracturing her bones on impact, as her quirk doesn't reinforce her bones either. This limits her offensive options, particularly when she has no equipment or throwable objects in the area
Vertigo - Jumping too many times in rapid succession can make Kitana nauseous due to the rapid shifts in location and sensory overload of trying to process everything after each jump. For this reason she currently can only make one jump at a time (per post). With training she will be able to increase the number of consecutive jumps possible. But no amount of training will ever completely negate the fact that the process of moving at super speed in the manner she does is inherently disorienting
Fighting Style: Kitana is a skill and mobility-based fighter. Her quirk provides her with incredible evasive ability, and the ability to reposition rapidly. While it doesn't provide much offensive firepower on it's own. Kitana uses thrown heavy objects or weapons accelerated to high velocity to strike at targets, and her ability to accelerate herself to keep herself away from harm. She also can hold her own in close quarters, as the calculations she has to regularly do to calculate her own trajectories can be applied to enemy movements in turn, giving her a bit of an edge in predicting and countering strikes. She prefers to fight defensively when forced into close quarters though, generally opting for trying to regain some distance rather than trying to land counterattacks from up close.
