Occupation/Status: Leader of the Legion of Doom, Revolutionary, Genius
Alignment: Villain
Factions: The Legion of Doom
Canon Or Original?: Canon
Powers/Abilities:
Simian Physiology: As per his birthright as the glorious Gorilla race, Grodd possesses a superior simian body, one which aids him in his quest for world domination. His body allows him a strength that puts him leagues above an oridnary human, able to withstand heavy blows from both humans and gorillas alike, his durability allowing him to withstand what many would consider to be fatal blows. His strength is such that he can toss a car the same way one might toss a discus, his fighting prowess put behind this strength allowing him to stay toe to toe with others who would think that he is nothing but brain, not brawn. But they would be sorely mistaken. Moving gracefully, he can utilize his full primate potential, able to use his feet like hands and to scale buildings/structures with ease. His powerful frame and keen sense of how to use it a deadly combination.
Superior Intellect: Grodd does not consider his boasting that of ego, merely stating inarguable fact. Even among the intellectually advanced race of Gorillas from which he hails, Grodd is unique, his mental prowess has evolved beyond mere advanced development, to being able to outplay even the smartest of humans, able to think twelve steps ahead before the pieces have even touched the board. Minutia does not escape him, flaws do not escape him, his mind is wired to an advanced analytical level that lets him predict and react to actions before they're even made.
Telepathy: Unlike the others of his homeland, Grodd has developed a natural extension of his mind, one that allows him to probe into the minds of others, to delve into their deepest darkest secrets, as well as communicate via psychic links, that he can make with relative ease. His telepathy has an outstanding range, however, the closer he is to his target, the more potent its connection can be. His telepathic abilities are so powerful, that when in suitable range, Grodd can establish a dominant link, one which allows him to remotely control the minds of others, able to even form a network of mind controlled individuals to allow him a vast network of suitable bodies. This ability is even more effective on those of lesser mind power, like that of animals, able to incite violence and riots with but a thought. Grodd can also emit a heavy telepathic field, which can halt even speedsters should they get too close. His mind powers also allow him, with correct preparation, to broadcast his mind into another host and swap places. He can also do this to other entities, swapping their minds, however that would required mechanical assistance.
Weapons/Items:
Simian Helm: A creation of his own design, Grodd's mind powers are powerful, however this device allows him to become peerless in his prowess. The Simian Helm allows him to amplify his telepathic field, whenever it is equipped, those in close proximity that do not possess proper mental protection will find themselves naught but putty in his hands. However, the helm is to be used sparingly, as should it be pushed to the limit, it can temporarily delay his mind.
Laser Weaponry: Crude standard firearms are not something Grodd cares for, his interests lying mainly with laser technology, having developed his own selection of laser weaponry from what they first developed as mining equipment. These range from a pistol to a full two handed cannon.
Appearance
Image:
Physical Appearance: Grodd at first, appears to be your typical Silverback Mountain gorilla, however, his thick black fur covered body is much larger than that of your average gorilla, on his hind legs standing at an imposing seven feet. His body is a wall of muscle, despite his high intelligence, his natural simian body still allows him impressive muscular structure.
Clothing and Armor: besides his golden helmet affixed with technological advancements, Grodd refuses to wear clothing, finding it to, homosapien in concept. He will on occasion wear a bright red cape, but that is for times of conquest and ruling.
Personality
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
General Personality: one word captures Grodd. Enterprising. Unwilling to sit and take the dirt he is served, Grodd looks upon the hand that simians are dealt and has decided that there is only one thing that he is fit for. Conquest. Ruling. The World. All Grodd truly cares for, is utter conquest of the Earth, seeing it as his inherited right, even beyond his pride for his heritage, Grodd looks upon those on his level, and sees himself as nothing but superior. Megalomania is not enough to describe him. Grodd is controlling, manipulative, scheming, conniving, everything he does, he does for a purpose. Trying to discern his actions is naught but folly, for his mind works in ways that none can follow. His schemes ranging from devolving the world to enslaving the world by hijacking the Watchtower. Truly, Grodd is destined for greatness, and his all too aware of it.

History:
DAWN
Gorilla City. A Utopia formed of the primates who had rose above the natural order, those who refused to bow before the self-proclaimed apex predator, the homosapien. This was not a hatred, nor was this a sense of superioty. It was a sense of other, one that could not be denied. To first explore the one known as Grodd, one must first understand Gorilla City.
Formed centuries ago, records show that the first signs of Gorilla City were around when Rome fell. A genetic mutation had taken within their species, one that in its latent form, would awaken the intelligence of the primate, pushing to levels that would rival the hominid. At first, these mutations manifested in a variety of ways, many simians experiencing different effects, but the common denominator is that they were all experiencing an awakening of intelligence that simply could not be ignored. Feared by their own kind for their change in behaviors, and feared by the hominid that saw them as monsters, the intelligent primates slowly began to form a society, finding each other through an interconnected community of intelligent primates.
Eventually, they themselves could not deny their numbers, as they expanded and united with their mutations, it was becoming more and more obvious that they were considered a threat by homosapien kind. They could not freely walk among their evolutionary cousin, nor could they threaten the peace of their unawakened brothers and sisters. Instead, they sequestered themselves away, utilizing their gifts to create a secret society deep within Africa, Gorilla City.
At first it was simply a settlement, but as the years went by, their peace and prosperity allowed them to slowly craft their city into a utopia, safely creating a way to hide their city, letting their ranks flourish, their families thrive, and their kind to continue to live. For generations, they pledged to protect this peace, as the centuries went by, their abilities potency decreased, their mutation becoming limited to only that of heightened intelligence. That was of course, until he was born.
RISE
Gorilla Grodd was born to Thayo and Kanga, unsuspecting parents who were members of the observatory at Gorilla city. Kanga felt a presence from Grodd even during pregnancy, his powers manifesting even in the womb. From his birth, it was clear to them, that he was no mere simian. He was a return of their powers. Despite this, the pair made no attempts to prepare Grodd for his powers, instead treating him like he was no different from any other primate, and as he grew, as he lived in Gorilla City, he found commonality with his simian siblings, but something was missing. Something disgusted him, and he knew what it was.
They had been forced into the shadows, treated as the evolutionary inferior, and as his lessons increased his knowledge, as he endeavored to expand his mind, so did his hatred for the world. He graduated Gorilla Academy before any of his peers, continuing on to Simian College with similar results, he was proving himself, and his peers recognized that. Not only was he an impressive, talented, strong silverback, but his mind was unparalleled, even his betters could not perceive of the rate at which he was developing. He had become the Gorilla Grodd, and he was deadset on leading Gorilla City to freedom, to conquering the land that they had been denied.
There was one problem, and his name, was Solovar.
Despite their advancements, they still acted on a Monarchy basis, each King inheriting the land from his father, Solovar the latest in the royal line. Grodd came to Solovar, who respected his abilities, and told of him how they could overthrow the rule of the humans, how they could expand their ranks and awaken their fellow primates with the use of his powers, to tap in and create an overwhelming torrent of simians that were destined to inherit the Earth. Solovar, whilst impressed, denied the idea. Whilst he did not doubt Grodd's abilities, he was sworn to protect the peace, and to do this, would be a direct violation of that agreement. To Grodd, this was not tradition. This was weakness.
WAR
Grodd despised Solovar's decree, and he sought to put an end to the royal line once and for all. After all, he was a scientist. Using his telepathy. he sapped the intelligence right from Solovar's skull, like one would drink a man's milkshake. When his mind was rendered that of a dullard, Grodd gathered his forces, and launched an attack on Solovar's castle, finding that there were many who he could rally under his cause, and those that refused, he would simply...convince. It was almost too easy.
His forces spread throughout Gorilla City like wildfire, taking control of the perimeter as Grodd began work on his machine, the very one that he would utilize to unlock the intelligence of every primate that walked the Earth. Of course, he could not calibrate for the damage such a machine would do the Homosapiens, but, that was simply inevitable. Unbeknownst to him, Solovar had allies as well. His royal guard were formidable, and slowed down the progress on his reign, declaring himself King, despite any royal decree. It was around this moment, that Solovar's true ally reared his ugly hominid face.
The Flash.
That speedster arrived, and whilst his defenses were down, Grodd was taken by surprise. Unable to keep up with the supernatural speed of the scarlet sapien, Grodd was beaten. For the first time, did he taste defeat. And it was bitter. Solovar's forces pushed back, Grodd's defeat spread cowardice and fear throughout his forces. Retreat, it was the only option. He gathered his followers, and fled. Gorilla City had rejected his mind, so there was only one thing for it. The whole world would have to face his wrath.
KINGDOM
The first thing Grodd did, was reinforce his forces. He gathered every disgruntled gorilla he could find, and bound them under his banner, that of Gorilla Grodd. It would not take long for his deeds to become known to the world at large, launching attacks on humanity's forces one at a time, building up to bigger, more impactful attacks. His first port of call was infecting the Zoos of Central City with a disease of his own making that transformed their docile enslaved animals into ginormous ravenous versions. He would then move on, finding revenge dull. His next port of call would be a raid on military bases across the United States, slowly taking their technology for his own, instructing his gorillas to begin construction.
He took base in the swamps of Louisiana, however this would not be known to the public. There, he would construct a base that would hide beneath the swamps. This base is where he would store his forces, his technology, his projects. Experimentation was going well, his developments were becoming much more sophisticated than when his coup fell. However, he was...enticed. The concept of full domination was too good to be true, and he found himself romanced by the concept of this, Cerebro.
There, he would find another defeat. He would take his forces, and charged upon Xavier's with an army of Gorillas. This would prove fruitless, his defeat came eventually, and his capture swiftly followed. However, he had bigger fish to fry, a world to conquer. However, he would not be able to do this alone. Not in this age of heroes.
He would need a Legion.
Role Play Sample:
Crash. Crash. Crash. Did the waves never tire of their ceaseless monotony? He certainly did. This punishemnt that the forces of humanity had chosen for him had been a level of cruelty they could not even conceive of, for Grodd could not stand where he had found himself. Stranded in the ocean, this terrible fate to be surrounded by no wildlife, no jungle, no greenery. Just the waves, and their irritating habits. Perhaps when all this was over, he would find a way to punish them in a similar manner. Yes, that would be quite amusing. Despite the disdain he ahd for his place of confinement, the nature of his personal quarters were to his liking.
Solitary.
Minimalising his connection with the human scourge was favourable to him, and to the keepers of the Raft. Despite their dampeners, could he get his hands on willing putty, his mind would be transmitted through this facility like a hot knife through butter. He appreciated their trepidation, especially when it kept him away from feeble minds like thise. However, it seemed his solitary had finally been interrupted. His peace was being disturbed, and he could hear the variety of doors they used to keep him secure slide open, locking mechanisms clicking, codes being input, it was almost like a symphony, one they had orchestrated just for him.
And then the figure stepped forth, a smile spreading on the larger Gorilla's face, not baring his teeth, but a rather human expression, it was almost a smirk.
"What an honour to be host to the Justice Society's finest. Had you called ahead, I would have endeavoured to clean this place up for you," Grodd mused, his constraints having him bound to the wall, unable to move much more than his head as he faced the golden armour clad man that he had clashed with before. Hawkman they had called him, a man of a very particular temperment. "Carter, may I call you Carter? - Carter, you have come at a rather opportune time, I have been wondering when the interrogation would begin, and I am delighted to find out they have sent their finest to deliver such a task."
The monkey made eye contact with the helmet hidden scowl, watching as his taunts did little to increase the already agitated aura that the man naturally exuded.
"Trust me Grodd, no one is as disappointed as me to have to make my way out to this little slice of hell just to make chit chat with Dr Zaius. Now," Grodd watched the man, he could see that tense body, the way his shoulders were heightened, like a cat with its heckles up. Confusion. Ah. That was it. "The hell were you doing at Xavier's?"
"Ah."
The Gorilla shifted his weight.
"I wondered when you would come asking. After all, I assume your greatest minds have all failed to uncover my tracks, seeing as they sent their best and brightest today, tell me Hawkman, how about some quid pro quo, you answer a ridiculous question, and then I will. Tell me, someone so proud of his homosapien body, why do you insist on bearing the visage of the avian kind. Do you too feel the draw that those Orville brothers felt all those years ago, or is this something much more personal. Your garments are but the finest, so I do have to enquire as to the inspiration behind it. After all, I could find a way to make your bird experience more, visceral."
Carter delivered another signature look. "Fine, don't wanna play, I won't try. You're gonna be here till this hellhole starts to rust, ape. Cooperation could have bought you a new roof, but I can tell you're just playing us for chumps. If anything, I'm glad most gorillas can't talk, seeing how in love with your voice is," he moved to leave. "Unless you have any parting words, Grodd?"
A chuckle.
"Well Mr Hawkman, I am glad you asked, you see, I just wanted to applaud the technological advancements of this Raft. You see. The power dampeners, why, I couldn't activate my latent superiority even if I wanted to. Quite the pickle. However. Deactivating abilities, I've come to discover, I can do whilst in these pretty manacles. And well, I believe now that I've had my Justice Society pow wow, I think I have had enough time seeing the inside of the Raft, seeing the other faces that one might, approach." His eyes narrowed, his fangs bared towards Carter.
"You see Hawkman. This time, I have made a monkey, out of you."
With that, his body fell limp. Carter stumbled back before lunging towards him. Was he dead? A quick check told him the opposite, his heartrate had just changed, his breathing had altered. His mind. His mind was gone? Only now the confused cries of an ape rang out, Hawkman watching in awe as the man they believed to be Grodd thrashed and screamed. But those yes. Those were not the eyes that he had just conversed with.
MEANWHILE IN THE LEGION OF DOOM.
It was like waking up from a long dream. The constraints he had left his body in shifted the second his mind returned. Occupying his body with the mind of an unawakened gorilla was dangerous, so he saw fit to, make it more suitable for the occupant.
"What a pity. A shame to send one so oblivious to his confinement. Alas. What else could be done..." He turned to face his quarters, walking on his hind legs towards his monitor. "Now that my sabbatical has concluded. Where was I...."
