"To be a Blanchet is to be a vessel for His will;
When He says come, we shall arrive without delay;
When He says kneel, we shall prostrate ourselves with utmost reverence;
When He says strike, we shall plunge our blades into the very heart of scum and villainy;
If He were to command us to die, we would not hesitate to turn our blades upon ourselves.
A Blanchet must uphold this standard of duty until the day we can no longer bear the weight of our blade. Then and only then shall we die knowing we have fulfilled our purpose,"
Name
"My name is Eleanor, child of the Blanchets and eternal servant of the emperor,"
Age
24 Years
Race
Human
Appearance
Eleanor is a striking young woman standing unusually tall at 6'3'' with a slim, athletic physique characteristic of a skilled warrior. The most distinct thing about her appearance is her albinism—a trait shared by most members of her family—giving her a distinctly pale look with snowy white hair and pink eyes. She carries herself with a confident determination and if looks could kill her glare would be a weapon worth fearing.
Abilities
Keen Senses
Eleanor is a very vigilant individual. Her keen hearing and discerning gaze allows her to spot things others might miss, and anybody who isn't skilled in stealth (or using a spell to supplement it) will find it quite difficult to sneak up on her. However, her keen senses can become a double edged sword because it also makes her more sensitive to things like flashing lights and sudden loud noises, potentially stunning her.
Athleticism & Resilience
While it certainly helps that all Blanchets are trained to be warriors almost from birth, their family does have a natural knack for athletics. Even among her family Eleanor is noteworthy for having a high level of endurance, allowing her to truck on when others would need to be catching their breath. However, while she can take a lot of punishment, she isn't particularly swift and will have difficulty keeping up with faster opponents.
Skills
Swordsmanship Training
The Blanchets are a family of warriors that specialize themselves in the usage of a blade. Once a Blanchet child is strong enough to pick up a stick, their training in sword combat begins and it does not stop until their skills are up to their family's high standards. Eleanor has been training to wield a sword since she was barely 4 years old, so her technical mastery of the sword far surpasses most of her peers. However, the Blanchets have a shortcoming. They focus so intensely on sword training that they tend to brush over hand to hand combat. In the (admittedly unlikely) event Eleanor is disarmed of her blade or can’t use her blade for some other reason, her combat efficacy diminishes significantly.
High Altitude Training
The Blanchets are deliberately trained in a special location high up on a mountain where the air is thin, the temperature is cold, and the weather is rarely pleasant. The training is harsh and sometimes deadly, but it yields results. All Blanchets, Eleanor included, are able to maintain combat effectiveness even in suboptimal conditions like inclement weather, and their acclimation to low oxygen enhances their endurance at normal altitudes. However, because their training is often quite isolated most Blanchets don't properly learn how to manage multiple opponents at once until they get out in the field. Though Eleanor is well trained, she does possess this shortcoming as well.
Spellblade Training
Eleanor's family line has a long history of wielding the Wyrd (responsibly and with proper Page training of course), and they particularly focus on channeling it through their blade to enhance it beyond a sword's normal means. They believe that by channeling their power through the blade it reduces the risk of corruption, though this form of spellcasting comes with the obvious downside that being disarmed also disarms their magic. Spellblades can enhance their blade with a variety of possible elements, causing their strikes to be more deadly and allowing them to perform special magical attacks.
(During combat Eleanor can choose to enhance her blade with one of the elements she knows or—if it is already enhanced—change the element. This can only be done at the end of a post, meaning she can't actually use the element she changes it to until the following post. Perhaps with time she will learn how to activate this power fast enough to change elements mid-post.)
(Eleanor can only use magic that matches the element of her blade. I.E. If her blade is enhanced by fire, she can't use lightning magic until she changes the element.)
(Currently Eleanor is capable of enhancing her blade with Fire and Lightning. Over time she will add more elements to her arsenal if and when the mods deem it appropriate.)
Inventory
Eleanor's Spellblade
When a Blanchet comes of age and nears the completion of their training, a special sword is forged for them. These expensive blades are a Blanchet's lifeline and closest companion—the tool with which they project their power and enact the Emperor's will. They value these blades almost as highly as they value their duty, and to lose or recklessly damage it is a source of great shame. These swords are distinguished by a special affinity for the Wyrd, designed to facilitate channelling power through them by Spellblades. Because of this they are also sensitive to the Wyrd's power, causing them to glow in its presence. This makes them useful for tracking down Wyrds, magical creatures, and other such phenomena. They can come in a variety of shapes and sizes; Eleanor's takes the form of a bastard sword that has a good balance of flexibility and striking power. Eleanor always keeps this blade within arm's reach unless absolutely necessary, and when she isn't doing her duties she spends a significant amount of her time maintaining it.
Milestone
Though her duties as an inquisitor will always take priority, as a Blanchet she desperately wishes to remedy a black stain on her family's otherwise flawless reputation. Her older brother, once an inquisitor himself, has gone rogue. She is far from the only person trying to hunt him down, but Eleanor once had a close bond with him. She feels that it is her responsibility to confront him, both as his sister and to prove she can take his place as the heir to her family line. She will not let her emotions get in the way of doing what must be done. This path can only end in death, either hers or his.
Chronicle
The Blanchet Family
To understand Eleanor, one must first understand her family. The Blanchets are a well-known family line of soldiers and smiths that have been steadfast loyalists to the emperor for countless generations. Many of them have become inquisitors throughout history and fulfilled their duty with ruthless efficiency. Over the centuries their great family had grown powerful in wealth and renown, with each generation carrying on the legacy of those that came before it. Though technically not nobility in the official sense, they wield a comparable level of influence and most people bunch them together with the noble houses when referring to them. Eleanor is the second child of Alastair Blanchet, the current head of the Blanchets. Her brother, Troy Blanchet, was two years older than her and slated to be next in line. Both of them carried a heavy burden as children of the partiarch. They had to set the example for their cousins and peers to follow, and as such perfection was not only sought, but expected.
Growing Up
Eleanor lived as most infants do, up until the age of four where she was handed her very first wooden sword and told to swing. From that day forward, she began her training as a Blanchet. Every Blanchet is expected to become skilled with the blade, even those that aspired to work the forge instead of pursuing military careers. As the youngest of two siblings, Eleanor always lived in the shadow of her older brother. He was a prodigy, with onlookers anticipating him to one day become one of the greatest soldiers the family had ever produced. He was everything they wanted, and Eleanor... She left something to be desired. By conventional standards she was still quite excellent, but she lagged behind her brother in every respect, whether it be skill, strength, speed, you name it, her brother did it better than she did. The only thing she really had going for her was a stubborn streak, refusing to be belittled and pushing herself harder every day. In spite of all this, she and her brother loved each other dearly, and her brother was always happy to spar with her and give her advice. Truthfully she didn't really mind that he was superior to her, she was just fed up with how the other members of the family always compared her to him. Little would change about their dynamic for quite some time.
Left Behind
But one day, her brother was sent off to begin the next leg of his training in their family's mountain facility, leaving the two separated. The only way she could see him again was by catching up and going to the mountain facility too, and so she redoubled her efforts... But she simply could not reach the same level of excellence he had in the same amount of time. Her brother went off at age 14, and yet here she was three years later at 15 still not ready to go there. Was she truly this pathetic? Was this the best she could do? She started to resent her own shortcomings. She ended up becoming her own worst critic. The real truth of the matter was her family wasn't disappointed in her progress. In fact, she was right on track and progressing at the rate most Blanchets did. Her brother was just exceptional in every regard, but she couldn't accept being average, even by Blanchet standards. She would work herself to the bone until age 16, when she was finally deemed ready for the next step of her training.
The Mountain
Upon arrival at the mountain facility, she was expecting to finally reunite with her brother... But she learned that he had already completed his training. He was now off to who-knows-where getting his inquisitor training done. Only then did she remember, he was 18 now, it... Made sense. And so she was alone again, but this time the training was easily twice as brutal. It was a grueling time of her life, training day in, day out. Even in the dead of winter there was no reprieve. Many times she felt like she was going to die out there, but as is the case with all who train there, the pressure polished her skills like a diamond until she was up to the Blanchet standard. Her final test would come at age 20, when she was taken down to the base of the mountain. She was then told that a flag was placed at the mountain's peak, and she wouldn't be allowed back into the facility until she returned with that flag in hand. As her instructor departed, Eleanor began her climb up the mountain. She couldn't take the easy path, because that path led up to the facility's doors, so she had to climb the hard way. She had heard rumors that one in every five Blanchets die during the mountain training, and this last test is probably the cause. All the way up she was freezing, sore, and exhausted. One wrong step and she would tumble to her inevitable doom thousands of feet below, but she had to keep climbing. How could she reunite with her brother if she died here? How could she face her family again if she gave up? No, she had to prove she could do this. It would take the better part of the day, but she would finally reach the peak and claim that flag in the clutches of her numbed hands. By the time she returned to the facility, she was on her last legs, but she had done it. Her Blanchet family training was complete. To commemorate her achievement, she had a personalized Blanchet family blade forged for her, and then she moved on to the final step of her training...
Joining The Inquisition
Having been prepared for this day, Eleanor would waste no time in signing up to begin Inquisitor training. She would be taken to a remote place and put to work studying, practicing, and fulfilling all the necessary prerequisites the instructors desired of her. Inquisitors are vetted very thoroughly to ensure they are loyal, which of course Eleanor passed. All Blanchets are fiercely loyal to the emperor. Besides further polishing her combat skills, she would also be required to study the various threats an inquisitor might face and how to appropriately deal with them. This extensive amount of studying was a significant difference from the training she received from her family (which was mostly focused on practical combat training and exercise), so it was hard to get used to at first. She also found she was so busy she didn't really get the chance to look for her brother, but she knew he had to still be around, because this training lasted at least two years and most likely more. Ultimately she just held out hope she'd see him again.
Betrayal
In the end she never got the chance to see her brother again, and she simply focused on her inquisitor training. Unfortunately the next time she hears about her brother is not good news. In fact, it was the worst news she could've possibly imagined. Her brother had finished all of his training and began work as an inquisitor... But then he went rogue. To say this was shocking is a gross understatement, because this is the first time in generations that a Blanchet had ever shown any signs of disloyalty, let alone fully betraying their duty. This news angered Eleanor, as did it anger the rest of her family. Worse yet, it damaged the foundation of the family's entire reputation. People started casting doubt on them. If one of the Blanchets would betray the emperor, who's to say more won't follow? All the generations of dutiful service could potentially be for naught. As a result, every able bodied member of her family is chomping at the bit to hunt down this traitor and execute him so that they may restore the family's honor. Eleanor wanted to find him as well, but first she had to finish her own inquisitor training and hone her skills with practical experience. Once she is ready though, she will find him...
