Pumphouse Park, near Brookfield Place, Manhattan. A relaxing stop near the large shopping center, nestled in the Battery Park City neighborhood. Parts of the park overlook the water - where they have found a spot to sit is closer to the city beat. There were three things Kitty Pryde knew helped her get over a break up: Getting out of the mansion, spending time with friends, and retail therapy. So, she'd pulled Kurt aside to scheme and they'd managed to squeeze some early checks from Emma for them to take Rogue on a shopping spree. They'd decided to head for downtown Manhattan, Brookfield Place. It was near the Hudson, towards the bottom of the island. Still lively with plenty of people-watching to do, and enough people that no one had really batted an eye at them, but still had plenty of nature and architecture. And Boba. Y'know, things that were good for the soul. "Whew! What a haul."They were taking a coffee break, and had walked themselves to a bench in Pumphouse Park, nearer to the city than the harbor. With Kurt around the burden of carrying around bags all day was eliminated (though she had put on a pair of earrings she'd just gotten), so there was no 'haul' in sight. Back at the mansion, though? There was a growing stack of bags. They'd been going for a while, so it was already early afternoon and thankfully temperate for the end of Summer. Kitty was sitting on the edge of the bench, leaned far to rest her head on the back, her arms crossed comfortably across her ribs with her drink balanced there, and had her legs stretched out in front of her. She took a sip of her drink - and Iced Mexican Coffee flavored milk tea with Chocolate Popping Boba, and sighed in a way that relieved some of the tension in her shoulders. Few people passed by, and those who did were in their own world. She closed her eyes to the warmth of the speckled sun on her face and breathed with the blossoms swaying in the wind. She opened her eyes to peek at Rogue and Kurt, hiding her attempt to check in on how they appeared to be faring.

The say has been long, but the good long spent with friends. Rogue ain't much of a shopper, but today brought a little bit of that side out of her. Pricey things were never her forte, so she spent most of her time hunting for bargains she could feel good about. Besides, she knew better than most to make sure she had a good amount in savings. Emma might be paying her good, but it was best to live frugally. Made things easier down the line, when she didn't have a job like this to keep her fed.
Still- she didn't turn up her nose at a new pair of very fine leather gloves. They had felt so good on her- smooth and tight in all the right ways.
Rogue ain't never had boba before- so she just opted for the most popular, rather than the most exotic. It is a classic milk tea, only with some brown sugar to give it a more striped effect. Sweet, creamy, and the little balls are fun to slurp. She pops one in her mouth, giving a little giggle. What a time to be alive.
"So- where exactly is this from?" Rogue asks, motioning to her drink. "It ain't no sweet tea, but I can see the appeal," she says, winking at Kurt. He knows her "World Famous Sweet Tea", as well as its Georgia Peach variation.

Kurt's head rested slightly cocked at an angle, slowly sipping on a caramel latte. He didn't care much for shopping, but he didn't mind getting out of the mansion. It was always more thrilling to be doing something rather than nothing. It didn't seem to matter to him that what he was doing was being a glorified transportation device for the things Kitty and his sister bought. There wasn't a lot of things he needed, and the things he did need were largely custom made and couldn't be bought in store, so his day had largely just been spending time with Kitty and Rogue. He also didn't seem to mind the stares he was receiving. Some were out of curiosity. Others were the faces of people barely containing themselves from attacking him simply for existing and clearly not being human. Others seemed completely indifferent to his existence. Once upon a time the attention his appearance drew might have bothered Kurt, but he seemed as unfazed about that as having to teleport all the things they bought back to the mansion. His yellow eyes blinked slowly as he added,"Thank you for getting these drinks for us Kätzchen." His ears twitched slightly. Despite his unfazed expression, it seemed Kurt was on alert for anyone who would grow bold enough to approach them because of his appearance.

Kitty opens one eye from her sunny spot to look over when the southern drawl starts, grinning automatically. There's a hint of smug energy as they seem taken with the drinks, and she nods at Kurt's thanks. She swirls her drink once, watching the tapioca circle the ice and listening to the ice clatter before she answers, "It's from Taiwan originally. I had it in Japan - a lot, towards the end. The people I ended up staying with loved it. I'm really glad it got popular over here." She takes a sip with a little more fondness, reaching into the drink for a moment to pluck a stuck one out of the straw and return with dry fingers. She eats it, then makes a small sound of notice before leaning over to Rogue. Without a care in the world, she reaches through Rogue's hair to pull out a fallen leaf, edges just starting to yellow, without stirring a single hair. She waves the thing at her, then presents it to Kurt like a worldly gift.
"It ain't no sweet tea, but I do declare this to be the prettiest leaf in the city, plucked from atop the loveliest head north of the Mason-Dixon line this fiiiine afternoon. Fitting only for the fuzziest of elves and the mighty finest of dames," Kitty presents dramatically and pretty abysmally accented, shooting a wink at the two of them.

"Y'don't say... We should go there next time, get the real deal. You know Kurt is good for it," Rogue murmurs, slurping her a lot less delicately than Kitty. Woman has manners, sure, but why exercise them among friends like this? They sure don't care, so why should she?
There is a trust in Rogue as Kitty reaches over. She doesn't let many people do this, but if anyone could... it would be her. Just the thought of her making a mistake, though...
Good lord, Kitty. Rogue rolls her eyes at her friend's antics. If she starts mentioning Kurt's old beard, she is going to lose it. "I do declare," Rogue says, then sticks her tongue out. "Bless your heart," she adds, giggling all the while.
"What is next on the agenda? I gotta say, I'm bushed," Rogue says, leaning back a bit. "Its been nice to get out an all, but I got papers to grade, and I am sure as hell y'all do, too."

Kurt's tail twitched back and forth lazily as he said,"So long as I know where I'm going of course.". It was easy to forget with his new teleportation range and stamina that he still needed to know where he was going. It had been a very long time since he had almost had an accident. Improving his spatial awareness was the next thing he had in mind. Almost absent mindedly his tail reached forward taking the leaf from Kitty with a shocking amount of dexterity and gentleness that one wouldn't expect from a tail. He returned Kitty's playful wink, noticing Rogue roll her eyes. He couldn't help how women acted around him. It wasn't like there was some magical switch he could flip on or off with it. The thought of such a switch in combination with his sister's antics made him chuckle a little. He smiled and said with some dramatic emphasis,"Thank you Kätzchen. Truly a gift that cannot be repaid." He glanced at his sister and said,"I teach theater my dear sister. I don't have papers to grade. Though, don't tell Emma that. She has been trying to get me to have them write papers on playwrights. I don't see much of a point in that. I'm teaching them problem solving, confidence, time management, communication skills, active listening, teamwork, and adaptability. Writing a paper about Shakespeare doesn't show me they've learned anything but time management."

As the three X-Men continued resting at the park bench, it suddenly seemed like there were much less people around than when they had arrived. There were still some people here and there, but they were all giving the mutants a wide berth, content with watching them from afar. One could hear a pin drop in this silence. Just behind the X-Men was a particularly large tree, thick with branches and flora and who knows what else. Before any of them could fill the silence, the Star of David pinned to Kitty's jacket started to prick inward at her skin. That pricking quickly became more severe, as shards of indistinct metal inexplicably spread outward from the star. As this metal expanded, it made an unnatural rippling noise, in addition to the screeching of metal against metal. If the Star remained on Kitty for much longer, it was sure to become a lot worse than a pinprick. Above, somewhere within the large tree, a faint echo of the noise of rippling metal could be heard, along with the subtle creak of a branch under pressure. Then- SNAP!
That something in the tree became much louder, much more visible. A towering humanoid clad from head to toe in shimmering, jagged metal leaped down to attack Rogue with a metal spike rapidly extending from their wrist towards her stomach, making that same rippling noise. The only other detail that could be made out in this moment was a crown of thorns jutting out from the assailant's metal helm; although, given that it was a metal artifice, it was closer to a crown of blades.

Kitty feels the beginning of the pitch land – she knew the look on Rogue's face, and she wiggles her eyebrows at the 'bless your heart.' She'd learned enough Southern in her time to know the implications, and she was all too happy to play into it. She giggles in turn as Kurt takes the leaf and returns the wink. She was set with the wind-up, now if she just mentioned something like Kurt's beard she knew she'd have Rogue on the ropes (She knew how silly Rogue thought it was - he was already furry!). She's all smiles and mischievous pride, but schools her expression just long enough to dramatically bow to Kurt. Her head comes up with another grin, cooling off for a second when the talk turns to work.
"Most of my assignments are digital these days... Though, the advanced group has their rough draft deadline coming up soon. Then I'll be swimming in hypotheses and misused jargon-"As she replies, Kitty reaches up and scratches at a point near her lapel - only to feel the source of the itch move. Her brows knit, a small line forming in between as there was a strange sound. She glanced down and saw the source in her Star of David warping exponentially quickly, compounding in on itself and expanding in a way that appeared near alien even to the mutant. The warping metal reminded her of - but he was dead. On reflex, Kitty turned intangible everywhere except her hand, which came up to rip the Star from her jacket and toss it into the grass ahead of them, the new pain in her hand heightening her adrenaline. In the same motion, Kitty stood quickly to scan their surroundings, muscle memory putting her immediately on the defensive. She hadn't noticed just how wide a berth the other park-goers had suddenly given them until now.
That sound came again from above them, and she looked up just in time to take in the looming metal figure bend into a leap. If Rogue didn't have time to react or shield, Kitty's hand was reaching to grasp her jacket and keep her intangibly safe from their assailant. His crown caught the light, and that was all it took for her to suddenly realize how near they were to Battery Park.
The helm of"Kaiser!" a member of the neonazi Empire Eighty Eight, was as recognizable as he was dangerous.

Rogue’s eyes narrow instinctively, her muscles tensing as the sudden shift in the atmosphere crackles around them. Something’s wrong. Her gaze flicks to Kitty, who is already on high alert, but it’s the sharp sound of metal warping that makes Rogue’s stomach churn.
Before she can ask what’s going on, a cold, metallic shadow looms overhead. A sound, like an iron spine cracking under pressure, breaks through the silence. Then—SNAP. Rogue barely has time to flinch before the towering figure descends with violent force, the spike on his wrist shooting toward her midsection.
Instinct kicks in.
She throws herself sideways, her gloved hand reaching out just in time to shove Kurt out of the path of the strike. She isn't worried about Kitty- anything can just pass right through her, and she's already reaching out to help Rogue. Kurt, though, he has to see it, think about it... Rogue’s breath catches in her throat, but her eyes remain focused. That crown… Her pulse quickens as she catches a glimpse of the jagged thorns—the unmistakable symbol of Kaiser from the Empire Eighty-Eight. She doesn’t need to think twice.
She’s already in motion, her boots skidding against the grass as she twists, grabbing hold of the nearest object and hurling it at her assailant, her strength giving her an edge. But she’s aware—Kaiser is no ordinary foe. Rogue can’t afford to make a mistake, not with him or any of his cronies.
"Not on my watch," she mutters through clenched teeth.
