Kalina approached the school ground for the first time, a chill running down her spine and some trepidation in her heart. It was alot colder here compared to the west coast. She just got here and she was already home sick but.... There were people here who were blessed by the gods like she was... She was told that the teachers here could help her learn how to harness the power given to her.
Still, it was alot to take in, up until now she didn't even know people like her existed. She thought she was special... Maybe that wasn't as much the case as she thought? This place was definitely a lot bigger than she could have ever imagined... Definitely a place where gods and goddess could live in.
The court yard was massive but she didn't want to spend too much out doors when it was this cold so she bit the bullet and walked through the big double doors into the mansion, and it was definitely much warmer in here
Hello?
She called out, hearing echos in response

"Well, howdy there, sugar."
Sitting on the stairs just past the main hall, a girl was watching Kalina with a smirk on her face. Freckled and with curly hair, her green eyes were watching with an inquisitive glint within. She had her chin in her hands, elbows propped on her knees.
"You must be new. Lucky I was hangin' around the front doors, huh? Else y'all might have been wanderin' around all day. Call me Parsley, if ya like. What do they call y'all?"

Kalina had whipped her head around, to the source of the noise. Up on the stairs sat a female, that she figured was around her age. She was relieved to have ran into a fellow classmate but... she hasn't interacted with anyone her age in a very long time. she was nervous, she didn't want to say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing. supposedly, she understood her in ways other people did but... she still didn't entirely yet understand the issues with interacting with the outside world.
with a deep breath, she let a smile grace her face but her body was somewhat guarded. She didn't know how to relax, or even really converse with the other girl. She had asked for her name, that was a start of something right?
Kakalina or... you can call me Kalina. for short if you want.[/b]
she responded, unsure how to take her inquisitive glances. She shifted uncomfortably, tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. Parsley seemed nice enough and she needed someone to get her familiar with her new home
Yeah. Yeah, I am. just arrived. hard to believe that this is a school but... I suppose it is supposed to house future gods and goddesses so it being grand does make sense?[/b]

Niels sensed the newcomer well before she had reached the door, or he strongly felt she was a newcomer because her emotional aura was... unknown to him. Still, he had been on his way back from the library. Though it might be a good idea to pass by and have a look, even more, when he sensed the more familiar presence of Parsley... if she had not been there, he might have decided to take another way and avoid the entrance hall entirely.
As it was now:
A teenager with curly hair and bright brown eyes appeared at the top of the stairs above Parsley. He was dressed in green flannel and brown jeans, and he had what looked like a utility belt with several bags and another bag attached to his hip with a belt construction.
"Hello," he greeted with a slight smile, tucking a wayward lock of hair behind his ear. He had heard parts of the conversation since the mansion had a way of letting voices carry a fair distance. It was possible to notice that the way he acted seemed to apply. He was not surprised that Kalina was there. "This-- you came here alone?" Niels looked around for any sign of an adult, but he did not see or sense anyone else.
He walked down the steps until he was roughly next to Parsley; he pulled out his phone and casually sent a message to the first teacher contact he found. *I think we've got a new student at the entrance hall.* He hoped it would be noticed. "I mean, that was rude... I'm Cornelius, but everyone calls me Niels. I see you've already met Parsley" He did not know how to tackle the mention of gods... so he decided not to touch on it; a teacher would be better at explaining.

"Gods and goddesses? Why, I like the sound of that."
Parsley straightened up, a smile on her lips. She glanced up as Niels passed her down the stairs, hopping to her feet to stand next to him. Parsley crossed her arms, nudging the boy with her shoulder.
"Parlsey Stitchwort, nice to meet y'all, new girl. Niels, Kalina was just tellin' me about how we're gods. That's sweet, huh?"
She took a few jaunty steps down the stairs until she was on the same level as Kalina, tilting her body onto one foot as she stared at her with the wide smile still on her face, a glimmer in her eyes.
"Welcome to the school, sugar."

Another came down the steps, as she was getting herself familiar with parsley. Conversing within a group was entirely new to her and she could only hope she would leave a good impression on the two of them... Especially considering that she would be seeing them both from time to time.
She gave Neils, what she hoped was a good sized smile and wave but she soon felt self conscious and hid her hands away
It's nice to meet you Neils, and parsley seems nice so far too. And yes[/b]
She stated, before pausing and thinking about her answer again
Well, my mom took me to the airport, but she couldn't afford to fly across the country[/b]
She admitted, her heart calming down some as she started to talk. It.. seemed natural? Is this what it was like to have friends? It was an enjoyable feeling, and she found herself wanting to know more about the two teens in front of her
Well, I mean how else are we blessed with the powers that we have? Speaking of, what kind of power do the two of you have?[/b]
She earnestly asked, not thinking if it was too forward. That's why everyone was here at this school after all. Right?

"Y-Yes, I heard," Niels replied to Parsley, "I don't much feel like a god if I'm honest. I know both my parents were regular humans. And yes, welcome to school. I sent a message... so hopefully, one of the teachers will turn up and help you get settled; they are all brilliant and can answer questions far better than we could. Not that... well, we won't answer questions, just we're..." He paused, trying to find what to say, kids? No, teenagers? Obviously... "They've got more experience... is all."
He played with the camera hanging at his chest, carefully listening to the new girl. Still, more than that, he was getting an idea of the emotions radiating from her, and it seemed their arrival helped make her feel more at home, which told him he and Parsley were doing the right thing. She was also very forward, but he could not blame her; neither he nor Parsley revealed anything about their powers just from a glance.
"I'm a psionic," He explained with a friendly smile. "More exactly, I'm known as an empath; I do things linked to emotions. Yes, before you talk to a guy named Jason, I can see and speak to ghosts too and can sometimes touch something and get a glimpse into its past or, more rarely, future." He was not sure what more to say, he did not feel like it needed a whole lecture, and he would fill in more as and when needed. Not like he fully understood his powers yet anyway; that was why he had lessons with Miss Frost. "How about you? I mean, what are your powers?"

Parsley gave Niels a nudge with her elbow.
"Speak for yourself, sweetie. Why, I've felt like a god my whole life."
It sounded like an arrogant statement, but she meant in the whole patricidal, exiled, eternally punished kind of way. Perhaps this would register on Niel'a emotional radar. Sometimes Parsley forgot she was talking to an empath, and her dark jokes would come across what they really were.
"Watch this, sugar. I'm callin' heads."
Parsley pulled out a coin, flipping it into the air. Ir landed on the back of her hand, and she revealed it as a heads.
"Tada! Pretty cool, huh? Now watch, I'm callin' tails."
Tails it was, and Parsley looked very pleased for a girl that had only called two correct coin flips. She tossed the coin in the air again.
"Now watch - I'm callin' neither!"
The coin spun through the air, before landing perfectly on her outstretched hand, balanced on one side. Parsley's grin stretched wider.
"Pretty improbable, right? Y'all could say I'm just that lucky."

Kalina was impressed by parsleys display of her power. granted, she was confused at first but the coin standing on it's skinny side, not falling flat in either direction was something she hadn't seen before. she wouldn't have believed it to be possible if she hadn't seen it for herself. yet, the demonstration left much to be desired leaving as many answers as many questions. could she control metal? make things do as she wanted? It was left ambiguous, the hint going a bit over her head.
Lucky? I guess so, that's cool either way. never seen anything like it![/b]
she exclaimed, briefly forgetting about Neils explanation... well... she didn't forget it, she didn't want to think about it for a while. that was alot to process on it's own and thinking about it unlocked alot of feelings that she was not entirely familiar with. anxious, nervous, ambivalent being among those. she didn't want to lose a potential friend but she didn't know how approach Neils explanation
so.... you know how I... how everyone is feeling at all the time? and ghosts? what do ghosts have to do with emotions?[/b]
she felt unsure of herself, she didn't know if she was being too forward... if she should have been more discreet with her question. she didn't want him to be offended in any way.
then she thought of Neil's question to her. what could she do? that thought made her smile. she could talk about it like Neils did, or maybe she should put on a show like parsley? the latter was super cool and left a nice impression. she wanted to do the same with her new friends.
Me? well, nothing to special just... [/b]
she trailed off as she thought about the snapping turtle, what their physiology was like and how aggressive they could be. their diet, and movements and how small they were compared to other turtles and then the next moment, a palm sized snapping turtle was before them were Kalina once stood. it was notably small, and cute as it looked at the two before it with inquisitive eyes.

"So humble," Niels muttered; he watched as Parsley demonstrated her power, which was impressive... and Niels did not feel he could explain his own in any way that would not be... uhm... intrusive. "You could have called something sillier; I'm sure you're just holding back."
Niels took a moment to regard the questions.
"Yes, most of the time. Mostly surface feelings, emotions are usually layered, and other emotions might be deeper inside." He explained, putting one hand over the other. "Emotions are like heat from a fire; they radiate outwards from the person, and I can detect and comprehend that, which is useful when people are lying to me, and I know some people aren't as bad as they like to pretend." He did have a habit of putting more stock in what a person was feeling than what they were saying, which may be a bad habit. Still, it helped him understand people more.
" As for ghosts, I'm no expert, but I believe it is because ghosts often are very emotional; it is one of the few things they still have. Most of them are what I like to call "Imprint Ghosts" because they re-enact tragic or violent deaths. They do not think, in essence, they are emotional imprints left behind; they repeat the same action over and over. Like a video, but in reality instead of a screen." Niels gestured with his hands as he talked, but not for any reason; he just did that. "More rarely are those you can talk with; they are, in essence, themselves but stuck here for many different reasons. We have a nun in the local area who only speaks Latin... so that is a challenge to make sense of. Still, no matter the kind of ghosts, they feel a lot, and a ghost is mostly composed of strong emotions." He paused, clearing his throat as he blushed slightly. "Did not mean to get all nerdy about ghosts..."
Niels curiously watched Kalina, and his eyes widened as she became a snapping turtle. He knew it was still her because of her emotional imprint, but she was a turtle now. "You're a shapeshifter, that's so cool." He said and did mean it. "Does this mean you can talk to other turtles when you're one?"

Parsley bowed with an exaggerated low sweep of her arms. She winked at Neil's, grinning with all the cheek and charm that she could muster.
"Humble, and great! Y'all forgot the great part."
Parsley squatted on the stair as Neils spoke about his power. She frowned, and perhaps he would feel a sense of unease come off her. Perhaps she hadn't realised to what extent he could sense ghosts. Parsley had Imprint Ghosts of her own, and she didn't want to know if they were still close to her.
Then Kalina... vanished. Parsley's eyes went wide as she hopped down to the ground floor, crouching to inspect the snapping turtle before them.
"Well, I'll be. Ain't that the cutest thing. Can y'all understand us when you're a turtle? Oh, can you turn into any old thing? Like a racoon, or a bear, or an eagle? Or a whale?"
She looked back at Neils with a wide, excited grin. Parsley winked again, enjoying teasing the boy.
"Now ain't this a power worthy of the gods!"

The familiar trees of upstate New York came into view as Ororo flew above the tree line. She saw a few students, at least from afar they looked the part, entering the building and sped up to catch the door. Around her the air was warm and inviting and as she approached the door the students would begin to feel the air change.
The familiar smell of the old wood wafted up to her nose and she took in the familiar smell of the Xavier School. "It really has been a while."
She then addressed the students in front of her with a gentle smile. "Am I correct in assuming you're all students? I haven't been back here in a while so I'm afraid I'm a bit out of the loop."

Turtle-Kalina looked up at the two of them, turtle head turned to the side as if it was cocked as the pair of them spoke about her. She would immediately have responded to Niels question with a slow shake of her little head, a sense of pride welling within her as she was being praised as she was.
Then, she looked at parsley, a brief glint in her eyes if it had been caught just before another transformation took place.
This time, a rattle snake the size of an Anaconda was before them, sliding around their legs when the door that was just about closed had opened up again. Her head swung in the direction of the door, tail rattling as Kalina was hit by a bit of surprise.
Before any misconceptions could happen, Kalina quickly returned back to her normal state to take in the marvel before her. This woman could fly, and change the temperature of the room. she was also clearly more experienced with her power compared to them, or at least kalina. Her eyes were wide with awe, head simply nodding in affirmation to the question she presented them. They truly had to be gods and goddesses in the making. The woman before her was a testament to that.

"Of course, sorry... and great," Niels replied with a slight smile. He did not comment on what he felt from Parsley, but he did make a small mental note of it; maybe she was just uncomfortable about ghosts being real. That was nothing new; not everyone was as excited about ghosts as Jason. "But I don't sense any ghosts here, and now, so I think we're fine..."
Niels intently looked at the little turtle and was disappointed when she shook her head. It would have been fun if she could talk to turtles; then again, he could speak to animals. "That's fine; it's still a cool power—" His voice stopped as Kalina shifted into a snake. It was not that he was overly afraid of snakes; he was just... surprised.
Like the others, his attention went to the door, and in his case, it did so slightly before the others because he sensed the person approaching from the sky a distance away. "I think--" he managed to say before the almost closed door opened again. She was a grown woman and a mutant, and she appeared very familiar with the school, as she did not deviate and went for the doors immediately. Her emotions did not show any hostility, confidence, or nostalgia. For a moment, he thought she might have been an empath too, especially with the warm feeling she was spreading, but he quickly noticed the feeling of warmth was physical, not mental.
Still, he was slightly stunned—this woman was gorgeous. He looked to Parsley for a moment to check if she knew this woman before looking at her again.
"Y-Yes," he spoke up, collecting himself as best he could. "I'm Cornelius Hausknecht, but only--" He had been about to say that only his mother called him that but stopped himself. "Most people just call me Niels." He cautiously examined the woman; she looked kind, and she felt kind, so he saw no reason to think otherwise. Parsley might be one to know Niels well enough to see that he did not react in a way that would imply he felt hostility. He could be instrumental like that. "Very nice to meet you, Miss..." He let the sentence trail off, hoping that the woman would pick it up. Was she a former student? A teacher? A friend of someone?

Parsley's relief, for Niels, was palpable. It was more than just a fear of ghosts, but more of a specific worry. As if there was someone that scared her, but only in the very specific mention of spirits and spectres.
The arrival of the older woman made Parsley uncharacteristically speechless for a moment. Niels response to her made her feel calmer in the face of this stranger blown in on the winds, and she found her voice, giving the newcomer a smile and a wave.
"Yeah, we're all students, m'am. Parsley Stitchwort, and ain't it just a pleasure to meet y'all!"
Her eyes flickered to Kalina. She wanted to see her power again. What else could she turn into?
