It was clear from an early age that Tomi Shishido was not a normal child. At the age of two weeks old, he spoke his first sentence. By the time he was three months old he could walk, and by the time of his first birthday, he could read and write. By the time he was four, Tomi was considered one of the top five artists in modern Japan. The pressures of the world and the rapid advancement of his mind began to become to much for the young Tomi and he attempted suicide for the first time when he was six years old. After recovering from the attempt, Tomi was mandated to go to therapy. While in therapy Tomi composed the first of many operas. By ten, Tomi had graduated from the University of Tokyo with a degree in applied mathematics and a degree in theoretical mathematics. Tomi continued his education despite this, expanding his knowledge of the world. His mutant powers developed when he turned thirteen. Because of the danger he posed to those around him, Tomi quickly learned to navigate the world blind folded. He abandoned his home, not out of concern for the safety of his family, but because they were simply in his way. While living on the street, Tomi devised a mathematical formula that proved the existence of higher powers. This lead him to the the belief that with the existence of such higher powers, humanity was nothing but their slaves and playthings. This deeply affected him and enraged him, as he could not abide any such entities having an such an influence on his life and the world around him.
He began setting about his work to rid the world of the gods and their influence, creating a mutant death cult called Dawn of the White Light. He subjected Japan to relentless terrorist attacks for four years. Knowing that his plans would require him to acquire greater influence and power, Tomi killed all of his immediate family and the one person he had considered a friend growing up, aiming to gain the attention of the Hand. The first person to reach out to him after his act of dedication was the Cobra super soldier, Serpentor. Serpentor had been impressed with Tomi and his conviction. He gave Tomi Godkiller as a gift, believing Tomi could use the weapon to fulfil his destiny. Tomi was also aware that Serpentor was trying to entice him to join COBRA. While Tomi didn't join COBRA then, it did give him an idea he would later enact. Having not heard from the Hand, Tomi, still aspiring to greater things than the Dawn of the White Light, journeyed into rural Japan. Once he he had found the location of the Hand's sanctuary, he slew all of its guards while blindfolded to demonstrate his skills. Tomi went into the sanctuary, pledging his allegiance to Shredder and to the Hand's Jōnin. When the Shredder questioned his conviction, Tomi sacrificed the only thing he had left, his own life. Impressed with his loyalty, Shredder ordered Tomi's resurrection. Under the Shredder and the Jōnin of the hand Tomi honed his skills, completing the missions given to him with a efficiency that lead to his rapid advancement within the organization. He was granted the position of High Priest of the Hand and the title Herald of the Beast for its efforts in promoting the Hand's goals within the world. Tomi used his new position to broker an alliance with Cobra, an idea that had been inspired by the gift Serpentor had given him. Already infamous as a terrorist within Japan, Tomi's infamy as Gorgon only raised over his years working with the Hand and Cobra on a global scale.

- Rock Transmutation: Tomi Shishido's primary mutant ability is the power to transform anyone who makes direct eye contact with him into stone. While an incredibly dangerous ability for those around him, it is also his greatest weakness as his power can be used against himself if he were to look into his own eyes in a reflection.
- Telepathy: Tomi possesses a moderate form of telepathy, allowing him to read the minds of others around him and communicate with them telepathically as well. Tomi uses this ability most frequently to to predict his opponent's pattern of attack and what their strategy is. Using his telepathy to be able sense other people's emotions as well as to be able to see, even when he is blindfolded.
- Enhanced Intellect: The earliest of Tomi's abilities to manifest was his intelligence. He is a polymath genius, demonstrating extreme levels of advancement and expertise in a variety of fields. He can process and analyze multiple information streams quickly, posses eidetic memory, speed read, rapidly learn new skills and languages, and posses high deductive and reasoning skills.
- Herald of the Beast:
- Superhuman Strength: Tomi's physical strength has been enhanced to superhuman levels. He is capable of lifting five tons and using his incredible strength to leap great heights and distances.
- Superhuman Speed: Tomi is able to move at inhuman speeds. He is capable of moving at a few hundreds of miles per hours and is capable of moving incredible bursts of speed that even those with senses greater than that of a normal human have a hard time tracking.
- Superhuman Stamina: Tomi's body produces less fatiguing toxins during physical and mental activity than that of a normal human. He can physically and mentally exert himself for up to twenty-four hours before he begins to feel tired. He is capable of holding his breath
- Superhuman Durability: Tomi's skin, bone, and muscle tissues have been augmented to levels that are considerably stronger and harder that that of a normal human, making it incredibly difficult to harm him by normal means.
- Regeneration: Tomi posses an accelerated healing factor that allows him to rapidly regenerate damaged or destroyed bodily tissues. He can regenerate damaged and missing organs and limbs. He is immune to all diseases, infections, poisons, venoms, and toxins.
- Superhuman Agility: Tomi's balance and bodily coordination are all enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural limits of a normal human being.
- Superhuman Senses: Tomi's senses have been enhanced granted him senses greater than that of a normal human.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Tomi's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are superior to those of a normal human. Tomi's reflexes have been enhanced to the point he can casually deflect oncoming bullets with his sword with ease and react to things happening as incredible speeds.

- Godkiller - A blade created by the Immortal Blacksmith with No Name. Although there is a flaw in the blade, the blade is incredibly magical and is capable of harming and killing mythical beings and gods.
- Despite having access to Godkiller, Tomi prefers to save that blade for special occasions. He will generally another well crafted and maintained katana, shurikens, and kunai as the situation demands.
- While Tomi has a preference for more traditional weapons, as a member of the Hand he has access to almost any mundane weapon he could need for a given mission or situation with enough time for preparation.
