At the picturesque Seattle Great Wheel at Pier 57, just a short walk away from famous Pike Place Market, Emily leaned against the railing at the edge of the pier, people watching while waiting for her online contact from the MLF to appear. She was wearing a white button-up shirt, a yellow sweater vest, and high-waisted khaki shorts, comfortable attire for taking in the sunlight. Today would be the first time she would meet her contact, though Emily already knew his name and alias even though they hadn't personally met yet. She felt it was kind of like meeting an online friend, which was partially true, since they had met online. Emily didn't count herself as friends with many of the MLF members, but she planned on changing that. As a recruiter and potential leader, she felt it was important to have strong interpersonal skills. Hopefully, helping Echo out with whatever project he had planned for Seattle would be a pleasant exercise. As Emily waited patiently, her mind drifted back to her encounter with Rogue, the other woman's words having left a strong impression on her. ""No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us"," murmured Emily thoughtfully, remembering the words of Marsha P. Johnson, quoted by Rogue. It was a sentiment that was hard to argue with, and one that had blunted her outspoken pride in the following days. Those words, among others, made her rethink some of the strategy they had been employing in their recruitment, and sharpened Emily's hunger to know more about what the organization was doing at large.

"And yet liberation for us means a damnation for them. Poetically fucked, if you ask me."
A body had silently joined her, leaning with his best resting on the rail of the pier, a dogged cigarette hanging from his lips. He took a moment to light up, glancing across at Blossom from behind his yellow-tinted glasses, his face totally free from any kind of obvious expression.
"Humans keep pushing back because they know the freedom of our species means they'll be outmatched. Like Homo neanderthalensis watching the sleeker, faster species cresting the ridge of the nearest hill. Game over, kids, the evolution boat is here, and we didn't get a ticket."
This was definitely her contact. Agent Echo had spent a lot of time speaking with Blossom online, and his usual lengthy spiels would spark familiarity with her. His voice was nasally, deadpan, as if emotion wasn't part of his remit. Still, there was a pleasant glint in his eyes. Friendly, welcoming.
"Still, that's their problem, and frankly I couldn't give a toss if they all fall over dead tomorrow. Nice to finally put a name to a face, Blossom. You've been a busy bee in this neck of the woods, and that's a fact. I've been watching your exploits... not that it's obviously you, not to anyone who isn't properly watching. It's why I wanted to come all the way out here."

Emily gave a start when she heard Agent Echo's voice, having been too absorbed in her thoughts to have heard or seen anyone approach her. She listened intently as he spoke, even if she were familiar with this part of their ideology. The biological argument. From a biological perspective, mutants were worse than an invasive species for humans; they were the evolutionary replacement. At least, that's what the anti-mutant violence kept leading her to believe, that humanity wasn't interested in a peaceful symbiosis.
She arched a brow when he said that he had been following her exploits, immensely curious about what evidence she had left behind, in case she were dragged into trial for her acts. It was true, Emily didn't know how to scrub surveillance footage, but she had thought she had been careful. Her fine control over her powers allowed her to stay hidden in plain sight as her plants did the messy work, making it hard to pinpoint that it was her manipulating the flora if it were their first time encountering her.
"It's nice to finally meet you in person too, Echo. Welcome to Seattle," she said with a warm smile, spreading her arms wide in a welcoming gesture. "How was your flight? I hope America is treating you well. Still, I was surprised when you said that you were coming over to Seattle. What's on the agenda? Did Spora assign you to something new?" asked Emily curiously, eager as always for news.

Nigel gave a simple chuckle at her response. He wasn't a powerhouse like Juggernaut had been, nor did he have an ability like Magneto. Yet his talents lay in a different place. Nigel could play the Internet like a talented musician, reading it like a detective reads a crime scene. Nobody could see the hidden world of the Internet like he could, and Blossom's antics had been dotted across it as of late.
"Don't worry about tracks, mate. I'm the best in the business. If Ant-man sneezed on the other side of the country, I'd know about it. Everyone has a calling card, and I just picked up on what yours are. I doubt anyone else is smart enough to do that."
He smirked, took a deep drag of his cigarette and exhaling away from her with a modicum of respect. Nigel nodded at her greeting, showing his usual lack of emotion and response.
"You know the usual. Crying babies, cramped seats, crap food and expensive drinks. Only bonus is the duty free."
Nigel shrugged, apathetic and care-free. He didn't much care for small talk, because it always kicked him off into big talk. He could speak for days on the injustice of the world, on the state of private air travel companies and how much he hated passport control, but this wasn't the time.
"America is the same as any country in the world. Pardon my nihilistic attitude, but they're all deep in the shit. Not just for people like us, but the whole damned system. I feel more tricked than I do treated, but that's a discussion I could talk about all day. I'm here for a different matter."
Nigel gave her a conspiratorial waggle of his eyebrows. From his jacket he withdrew a small envelope. Within it, a simple picture. He handed it over.
"I found another one of us, not far from here. They're deep in shit, that's no mistake, but I reckon the two of us can shovel them out without much problem. You up for a little action?"

Emily didn't mind listening to Nigel speak, nor did she mind his apparent apathy. Often, his perspectives were familiar and similar to her own, and she found them to be a refreshing change from the compromising ideology and methods promoted by the X-Men on their podcast. Emily had gotten used to Nigel's asides and commentaries from nights in group chats with the MLF. Nigel had even enlightened her a few times about anti-mutant incidents in the States, a subject she considered herself very familiar with. Plus, she rather enjoyed his accent. She would have to ask about her "calling card" later, for she greatly appreciated Nigel's far-reaching and valuable intel-gathering abilities.
"Absolutely," said Emily in a chipper voice, taking the envelope and looking thoroughly at the picture inside. "How deep and what kind of shit? And why this particular mutant?" she asked, lightly tapping the picture. "There must be dozens of mutants in the States that are deep in the shit."

Inside the envelope was the image of a man. Non-descript as far as mutants went, especially as they both knew and worked with Despora. Nigel crushed his cigarette out, placing it inside a small plastic container that he then slipped inside his inner jacket pocket. "You're on the money there. Dozens is an understatement, but you know as well as I do that we can only do what we can do. One life at a time, eh?"He shrugged again, and nodded towards the image in her hand. "Goes by the name of John Proudstar, a.k.a. Thunderbird. His brother was one of the poor sods at Battery Park, and we both know how that turned out. Has a lot of energy, and still holds a lot of passion. Last time he was public, Johnny boy was doing a lot of Native American activism... and mutants, too, on the down low."Nigel fished another cigarette from a sleek silver tin, and lit the thing before continuing. "Then it went quiet. I did some digging and found that he'd been picked up by the Order. You know them? They run as part of the Protectorate, our favourite government jackboot facists pretending to be Superheroes. Save the world, unless you're different, right? Mutants aren't part of their remit.
"So our poor John has been detained by the Order. Our job is to un-detain him. I've got the details, the locations, all the intel I could uncover. It's a lot of shit that he's in, but I'm fairly confident you and I are enough to tackle the challenge. Any questions so far?"

Emily listened intently to Nigel's description, nodding along at the details, a frown crossing her features when he mentioned the Order. She knew the Order, the Protectorate team based in the Pacific Northwest, infamous with a reputation for heavy-handed tactics and use of force. In Emily's opinion, "government jackboot fascists" was an apt description. Emily had even fled from them once, forcing her to hide away in the forest for days.
Still, the Order's involvement sowed fresh doubt in her mind. Emily was confident in her abilities to evade or defeat one cape, maybe even two. But breaking someone out of a Protectorate base? With just one teammate? This felt like Emily's most ambitious endeavor to date.
At Nigel's question, she replied with a nod. "Yeah, how much potential resistance can we expect once we get there? Several soldiers? A few capes? Maybe both? Are we disguising ourselves and infiltrating our way in? Should we wait for nighttime to do this, or do you wanna go right now?" said Emily readily, her day clear with nothing better to do.

Nigel gave another little shrug, but there was a glint in his eye, a twist in the corner of his mouth. Her energy was just what he had been looking for. She was ready to dive right in, just as he was.
"Hopefully the capes won't show their faces. Usually they leave a bit of distance between them and the facists, but there's always a chance. Bloody arseholes won't miss a chance to try and beat the snot out of a mutant. The rest should be normal humans."
He exhaled smoke as he took the photograph back, sliding it into his jacket and chuckled dryly.
"Bloss, with our combined abilities, it'd take more than a dozen jumped-up Nazi arsewipes to stop us. My power can get us in silently, without a noise. If we can subdue the right guard, then I can copy their voice too. That way, we can take the silent way in."
Nigel bobbed his head to the side, and back again.
"And if not... well, that's when we can go with the scorched earth option. If we can release Thunderbird, as well as a few other co-conspirators Spora and I believe they've got locked up, then it won't just be us knocking heads together. Burn that box full of wankers to the ground. Of course, that's when the capes might come into play, but it's the risk we take, right?"
He extinguished his second cigarette as he blew smoke into the air, then gave Blossom a small nod.
"I'm game, if you are. I fancy a jaunt to the Nazi headquarters before dinner, how about you?"

Emily liked Nigel's confidence. It bolstered her spirits for the job. He was right; she could definitely take on a dozen soldiers. All she needed was a bit of preparation. And adding silence could only increase their potential body count.
Her brow furrowed at the mention of other incarcerated mutants, her mind working over how to achieve a mass breakout. Perhaps it was because of her conversation with Rogue that she wanted to do this job as stealthily as possible this time around, even though she was used to the scorched-earth approach.
"Sounds delightful," she answered with a smile. "Let's go, then." She would then turn and lead Nigel out of the pier all the way to her parking spot across the street.
Emily kept an unusual vehicle. On the outside, it was just a nondescript black sedan, but the interior looked like a miniature garden. On the floor was a layer of dirt and soft grass. Ivy had crept up from the floor and lined the interior, and sitting on the back seats was an encased flowerbed full of vibrant flowers, with a toxicity warning on the clear cover. A random assortment of seeds of differing sizes and colors were scattered all over the vehicle, on the floor, on the seats, and on the dashboard. Emily scooped up two colorful handfuls of seeds and stuffed them into her pockets before opening the encased flowerbed and tucking a few flowers behind her ear.
"Sorry about the mess. I figured I needed a mobile arsenal," she said sheepishly as she swept the passenger seat as clear as possible with her hand. She would then get into the driver's seat, ready to go. "I'm guessing Thunderbird's being held at the Order's base, and not a different location like a black site?" If Thunderbird was at the base, Emily would drive directly there and park a block away from it. She knew where the base was, even if she didn't have the security clearance to park on the facility.

"Don't worry about it. Frankly, Bloss, I think you're bloody remarkable."
Nigel lowered his glasses, taking in the arsenal in the back of the car, a small smile on his lips. There had been a lot of hopelessness felt after Magneto and the Brotherhood had been eradicated. The Liberation Front had felt like it was built on rocky ground, yet with mutants like Blossom... Nigel was more than impressed. This kind of enthusiasm for their cause fueled him.
"It's a part of their main base, yeah. Take us a few blocks out and we can go on foot from there."
Nigel turned to face forward again. He wasn't worried about the toxic plants. Blossom seemed like the kind of person who had upmost control over their powers. When he trusted someone, Nigel trusted them 110%. His fellow MLF agent had proved herself ten-fold, and he found himself feeling fairly excited for the next few hours.
"There's plenty of guards present outside the facility. Patrols that I've been monitoring... but there are windows. Changing personal, and all that. Even racist arseholes need a break. So we have a window of approximately... one minute and thirty four seconds, once an hour. Not taking into account a cheeky cigarette break or one of them needing a piss. Sometimes one minute and forty two seconds, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. No point making extra danger for ourselves, right?"

"One minute and thirty four, got it." After parking a couple blocks away from the base, as Nigel instructed, Emily would make her way on foot towards the back of the facility, stopping once she spotted a guard patrolling outside the wall around the base. She would wait at a distance, concealing herself in nearby bushes if she could find any, as growing ivy crept underneath her clothing, clinging to her closely like hidden knives. Sooner rather than later, the guard would leave, leaving that stretch of wall unmonitored while they changed the guard.
Once the guard was out of sight, Emily sprinted to the wall and slammed her hands onto the ground, pressing seeds into it. The seeds immediately sprouted, rapidly growing out into the ground, carving their roots deep into the earth and under the wall. Then, she would spread her hands far apart, as though she were parting window curtains, the earth rumbling and crunching as she willed the plants' roots to rip open a small tunnel under the wall, large enough for a person to get through.
Without wasting any time, Emily immediately crawled through the tunnel, eyes peeled for any more guards once she emerged on the other side, the woman looking around for any emergency exits or windows on the building to break into.

"Now that's the kind of forward thinking I like to see."
Nigel had been with her every step of the way, using his powers to dampen and redirect the sounds of plant matter pulling the very earth apart. They were in a silent bubble, with no sound escaping his vicinity. He looked around, casting a scrutinous eye on the building before them. They didn't have long to spend deciding on an entrance, and Nigel's mental clock was ticking.
"Alright... I doubt they'd leave them sitting around in the entrance lobby. Seems to me they'd probably be most likely under the building itself. So let's find a way in... and down."
Nigel nodded at Blossom. He would stick close to her so she could do her thing, silencing whatever noise she made with her foliage. They had less than a minute before things turned difficult, and at this stage Nigel would rather not start killing guards. No, that part would come later.
