FULL NAME: Yesugei Hou
ALIASES: Tem Borjigan, his corporate/public identity. The Mandarin, secret alias/title that denotes authority.
ANONYMITY: The name Tem Borjigan is well known within the business world, both as the CEO of Prometheus and as a philanthropist that focuses primarily on infrastructure and disaster relief, though he himself is somewhat reclusive in regards to public interaction. Beyond his most loyal subordinates, the title of The Mandarin is one of rumors and speculation. Even the most resourceful information networks can scarcely confirm his existence, or if it’s even a he or a human, beyond a mysterious figure influencing a shadow state within China.

Super-Genius Intellect - Yesugei’s mind is above and beyond the caliber of most beings, let alone mortals. He has one of the most gifted intellects on the planet, easily matching the likes of Richards and Doom, so much so that he not only taught himself how to use hyper-advanced alien technology, but improved upon it. Hovercrafts, nanobots, forcefield generators, teleportation devices, spacecrafts, and tractor beams are but a few of his feats of engineering. Yesugei is extremely well educated in most human sciences, holding degrees in genetics, physics, computer sciences, engineering schools (electrical/chemical/robotics/etc), theoretical sciences, and self taught knowledge in just about every field.

For those sciences that he lacks mastery of, whether they be new or deemed unimportant, it would only take sufficient time and dedication to add them to his lengthy repertoire, for comprehension and brain power is not a lacking factor. Hell, his mind is so powerful that Yesugei is capable of mentally controlling massive constructs, such as a flying dragon fortress over a mile long, while simultaneously toying with adversaries both within and without. However, the various sciences aren’t the only fields of research Yesugei has devoted time to, both business and military tactics are counted among them.

Indomitable Will - As the term suggests, Yesugei’s will is essentially impervious to manipulation or damage. This grants him practical immunity to suggestion and mental domination despite not directly having powers related to them. Combined with his Super-Genius processing power this allows Yesugei to easily combat psionics from master telepaths, such as mind reading, mental illusions, and so on.

Chi Manipulation - With decades of intense training and the assistance of both his intellect and willpower Yesugei has gained a masterful degree of skill in the art of manipulating the natural bio-electric energy that surrounds all life-forms, what is more commonly referred to as Chi. With Chi, Yesugei is capable of vastly enhancing his strength, durability, and reflexes to points well above and beyond human levels, some of which on a passive/reflexive level, as well as healing his own wounds and the wounds of others.

Superhuman Strength - Without using Chi to enhance himself Yesugei’s strength is that of a peak-condition martial artist, though with the almost passive application of it his strength grows monstrously. With Chi Yesugei is capable of cleaving through a thick steel door in a single motion with his bare hand, tearing his way through concrete and steel structures with little effort, and matching, even surpassing, the likes of some of Stark’s best suits.

Superhuman Durability - As much as he can use Chi to enhance his strength, Yesugei is capable of enhancing his durability to an even greater extent. Explosions the size of a city block accomplish little more than slowing him down. Hell, it takes an explosion powerful enough to vaporize part of a mountain range to destroy his hands and send him into a coma, and that’s when his hands were the epicenter of the explosion. The likes of your average, and even some advanced, bullets or energy blasts can’t even scratch him, though he is vulnerable to the momentum of the impact and being launched/stumbled/etc. His durability would be comparable to the likes of Colossus. Without Chi Yesugei is only as durable as your slightly abnormal human, such as Steven Rogers, but he would have to be entirely unable to access Chi or extremely exhausted for it to drop that low as his body reflexively uses it as a defense.

Superhuman Agility - Even without the use of Chi Yesugei has the reflexes and agility of a master martial combatant, aided greatly by his extremely powerful brain. He is capable of reacting to things far quicker than any normal human could ever dream, on par with the likes of James Howlett or Steven Rogers thanks to his extreme conditioning and the processing speed/power of his mind. With the addition of Chi this brings his reflexes to truly inhuman levels, capable of mentally/visually keeping track of speedsters and actually reacting to them at ‘lower’ levels of speed. Without the use of Chi Yesugei is capable of sprinting upwards of 30mph, though with it he is able to sprint short distances faster than the average human can comprehend.

Superhuman Vitality - Thanks to the combination of decades of extreme conditioning and the mastery of Chi, Yesugei is capable of exerting himself for far longer than most individuals, potentially days without a break at a moderate pace or hours at peak exertion. However, the more Chi he uses the longer it takes for him to return to his peak. With his mastery of Chi Yesugei also no longer needs to eat food, drink water, or sleep, he is capable of sustaining himself by feeding off of Chi alone. He also boasts a superior resistance to disease/drugs/poison and an passively increased rate of healing, though not complete immunity or rapid regeneration, and the ability to hold his breath for extended periods should the need arise.

Chi Healing - Through the focused use of Chi, Yesugei is capable of healing his wounds and the wounds of others. This appears as a yellowish white glow emanating from the hands of the user or the wound in question and is capable of rapidly healing just about any wound. However, Chi Healing cannot regrow what has been entirely lost, such as destroyed limbs/organs, but it can ‘stitch’ them back together, cleanse them of toxins, and get them back to working order. Self/Extremely close range only.

Master Martial Artist - As much time as he has dedicated to matters of intellect Yesugei has devoted just as much time to matters of the body. Aided by the combined power of his intellect and will he has mastered numerous martial arts, both internal (Chi related) and external (physical conditioning/combat), though only arts available in and around China. The Five Animals (Crane, Dragon, Leopard, Snake, Tiger), Mantis, Wing Chun, Bajiquan, Eagle Claw, a few Karates (particularly Goju Ryu), The Eighteen Arms of Wushu (Weaponry), and many arts that revolve around meditation, balance, and Chi control have all been conquered by Yesugei, though he rarely uses any particular one in actual combat. Instead Yesugei fights with the combined prowess of all, acting and reacting in a manner unconstrained by any particular style’s ruleset to deal with matters the most efficient way possible.

Multilingual - Yesugei is a polyglot, and one that is never truly limited by a language barrier. While his primary languages are Mandarin Chinese and English, Yesugei has intimate knowledge of many other languages, such as Russian, Latin, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Arabic. In truth it takes Yesugei under an hour to learn and less than a day to master a new language, as long as he has the resources, he simply needs a reason to dedicate that time before learning a particular language.

Historian - Yesugei is also a well versed historian, though much more intimately familiar with the history of China and Asia as a whole than other continents.

PARAPHERNALIA

Makluan Rings
The greatest pieces of technology in Yesugei’s possession are the Makluan artifacts he found aboard one of their ancient crashed ships. Originally they served as both the controls and power supply for the ship, but he has since repurposed them into tools of extreme potential and power, wielding them as rings (though they don’t have to be worn as rings to work). Those that he owns have bonded so well with Yesugei’s mind that he always knows where they are and if someone else is wearing them. He is even capable of directly assaulting the wearer's mind with his own indomitable will, or simply communicating with them telepathically if they are a pawn. However, what Yesugei owns is but a fraction of the set, totalling ten known artifacts with seven in unknown locations.

While each artifact has its own unique primary power they all share a few traits. All are unaffected by traditional EMPs, though a focused beam of a very specific magnetic frequency can cause them to short out momentarily and cause minor burn/electrical damage to the wielder. All passively protect the wielder from Makluan biological attacks, such as flame breath or physical melee attacks. All rings can be used to teleport to known locations, though they emit a noticeable spike in power while doing so.

Makluan Ship - The now repurposed Makluan ship, currently buried in the mountains of the Valley of Spirits, serves as the heart of the Mandarin Empire. While it is currently unfit for flight, Yesugei has managed to bring the rest of its functions back to working order, even in better condition than before it arrived on earth. It is where the throne of the Mandarin is located, and it is there that his greatest secrets and inventions are held, inhabited by only his most loyal brainwashed minions and an advanced AI of his own design with a wide arrange of internal and external defenses at their disposal. It is effectively camouflaged against just about all earthly means of detection, apart from physically happening across the buried fortress. Even then, it would sense you first.

Personal Inventions - Aside from the Makluan rings and ship, Yesugei has an assortment of personal inventions at his disposal. This includes various hovercraft, some used as long range transportation others as slow hovering platforms; extremely advanced communication devices, computers, software, even a few satellites in orbit; teleportation devices, though currently only the type that allows transportation to/between points in an array of machines; a large tractor beam hidden atop the Valley of Spirits, capable of catching/redirecting aerial objects the likes of supersonic jets, meteors, or ICBMs as long as they’re in a direct line of sight and within twenty miles; an array of hidden turreted defenses in and around the Valley of Spirits as well as his more important businesses, to defend his property of course; various other inventions as new problems arise.

COMMAND

Mandarin Empire - With a combination of natural charisma, The Liar, and a lot of money, Yesugei has amassed a small army of infallibly loyal minions to do his bidding in the shadows. There are always several at the top of his important businesses to monitor/guide them and many more dedicated to intelligence, counterintelligence, research, and production. As for territory, the Mandarin Empire currently holds the Valley of Spirits and its surrounding regions within China, though this is little more than a rumor beyond those that live there and the Chinese government. That being said, the villages around the Valley of Spirits have reaped the benefit of being under Mandarin rule; having free education, guaranteed jobs, advanced technology, extremely efficient policing, and no shortage of food. At the absolute cost of freedom.

Prometheus Corporation - As CEO of the Prometheus Corporation, and its many subsidiaries, Yesugei presides over thousands of employees. He owns a number of businesses that range from charity work to research, manufacturing, investment, contracting, banking, various services, and just about every other field. The Prometheus Corporation itself is dedicated to various forms of scientific research and development, as well as offering scholarships to promising individuals. Most of Yesugei’s businesses are located in China and neighboring countries, though he has started up a few branches in Europe, a branch in the Middle East, a few branches in the Americas, a branch in Australia, and a branch in South Africa.

HAIR: Yesugei’s hair is naturally pitch black in coloration and very straight. Typically he keeps his hair between ear and shoulder length, preferring shoulder length, and maintains a simple goatee.

SKIN: Yesugei is of half Chinese and half Caucasian descent, though few can tell as his Chinese half is more dominant. He bears no scars to show as Chi allows him to restore wounds without scarring.

PHYSIQUE: Yesugei is in peak physical condition, as one might expect from a master martial artist. He is of a medium frame with very little bodyfat to speak of and boasts an impressive degree of muscle hidden underneath his business suits.

ATTIRE: Yesugei’s attire consists mostly of business suits, typically of dark or tan colorations and usually solid colors. However, he does have a few outfits for physical conditioning purposes.

PERSONALITY

A true pragmatist, Yesugei is a man of science and order. He truly believes that under his guidance and control humanity could reach its greatest potential, that peace is best achieved through absolute power guided by logic and reason, his logic and reason, and is willing to go to any lengths to see his dream set in motion. However, Yesugei is also a very patient and cautious man. He understands that to truly accomplish his goals takes time, a tremendous amount of preparation, and will not likely happen in his lifetime. Still, the knowledge that he most likely will not live to see his dream fulfilled does nothing to dampen his resolve.

On a more personal note, Yesugei is an avid seeker of knowledge, and a firm believer that knowledge is the greatest form of power. He enjoys meeting other intellectuals and those with unique potential, as well as pitting his wits against those that defy him. Yesugei generally maintains a very civil and professional demeanor, treating his allies and underlings extremely well as long as they’re unquestioningly loyal. However, he isn’t at all above the use of threats, bribery, taunts, manipulation, and gratuitous violence to accomplish his goals. He also tends to be a rather vengeful man, those without value that cross him rarely live long enough to regret it. That being said, Yesugei greatly dislikes wasting potential, preferring to sway those with ‘potential’ that threaten his goals to his side, or at the very least towards neutrality, rather than destroy them.

BIOGRAPHY

Yesugei was born to Jianhong Hou, a wealthy Chinese businessman, and Alice Thynn, a British noblewoman. However, neither of them would make it past the day of his birth, they both perished in a car crash on the way home from the hospital. Yesugei was lucky to survive the incident and was given to his aunt, Lin Hou, to raise. Almost the entirety of his parent’s estate was left to Yesugei, rather than Lin, to be used for financial and educational purposes with very strict allowances and requirements before use.

Lin despised the fact that she got next to nothing while Yesugei stood to gain everything, taking out her frustrations and grievances on Yesugei as she raised him. She was strict, degrading, and abusive; requiring the utmost respect and success from Yesugei lest he risk her wrath. However, Lin would get very few opportunities to justify punishment, as it quickly became clear that Yesugei held an intellect no one his age could hope to best, with an extremely mature demeanor to match. By the age of seven he had already graduated high school and was looking into various Universities, as well as martial art academies for something more than just just a mental education.

Few took Yesugei seriously in the world of education, that is until he surpassed his educators within a year or two. His thirst for knowledge grew with every dominated subject and artform, driving him to seek more and more advanced education, until he had unwittingly used up his inheritance by the age of eighteen. With no more money to pay taxes both Yesugei and his aunt were kicked to the street as the Chinese government seized their property, and soon after his aunt died of heart failure. Yesugei felt no grief for Lin’s death, he only felt betrayal and the desire to make the government pay for what they had done to him.

With nowhere to go, Yesugei traveled into the Himalayan mountains, seeking to further his education in the physical and spiritual arts at various martial art temples. He traveled for a little over a decade through the Himalayas and the Kunlun Mountains, mastering the art of Chi manipulation alongside various fighting styles, until he stumbled across something absolutely magnificent in the Valley of Spirits. An alien ship, millennia old, buried in the caverns under the Valley of Spirits, and sets of dragon-like bones within and without. Its technology was unlike anything Yesugei had ever seen, and he had to make it his own.

Yesugei spent seven years in the Valley of Spirits, mastering the technology before him and bringing what he learned was a ‘Makluan’ ship beyond peak operation condition. He found three artifacts aboard that ship, artifacts of immense power that served as its controls, power source, and warp function. Yesugei repurposed these into rings of power, and learned that they were only three of a set of ten that had long since been scattered across the globe. With this newly mastered technology Yesugei ‘liberated’ the lands around the Valley of Spirits, recruiting minions from the villagers to protect his claim and advance his will. From there he worked his way into a startup research company called The Prometheus Corporation, using his influence and power to seize control as the CEO.

Yesugei directed the Prometheus Corporation under the alias of Tem Borjigan, and for all intents and purposes the man known as Yesugei Hou was long dead. His intellect led the company to greatness, and they rapidly expanded across China by purchasing dozens of businesses and opening new branches. Within a few years they had expanded overseas, amassing a great deal of wealth and influence within the regions they set up shop, as well as a great deal of good will among the people. Wherever disaster strikes, be it natural or villainously induced, Prometheus is there to provide aid in rebuilding, and to broaden Yesugei’s reach ever further.

Behind the scenes, Yesugei, or Tem, began to expand the Mandarin Empire into a formidable shadow state based in the Valley of Spirits. Today the Mandarin Empire is the greatest threat to the Chinese government in modern history, but they’d scarcely admit to its existence or the embarrassment of losing their own territory to a group that practically came out of nowhere. Though, something new has garnered the attention of The Mandarin. A budding organization recruiting those with global intent, those with a mutual enemy in the ever so troublesome Justice League and the other global ‘hero’ organizations. One that may be worth closer inspection.
