Nothing has changed. Hashima Yosei, a now retired, honest accountant, has owned this house for 47 years straight, a battered exterior that has endured the woes of tourists and incorregibles, with a well-preserved, traditional finish on the inside that realtors would kill to be able to rent out. Parents, children, wives (plural), and grandchildren have all stepped in and out with little fanfare but the story of a man that went through the salaryman treadmill and watches day go by in peace, and yet, something has felt off. There's a strange unease that emanates from this house, seemingly deterring tourists and attracting cats. The police already investigated the place, and nothing has happened, months of surveillance point to nothing strange, and yet, something ancient seemed to stir within these four walls, a raw spiritual force beyond compare, that seemed to slowly bloom through the past week. A stray cat sat comfortably on top of the mailbox as a delivery boy sought to pet it, only to be hissed at. Mr. Yosei got to the door to get his lunch, inviting the feline in in the process, a brief rush of energy flowing outside to further the mystery, to those who could feel it, that is.

It is just pure coincidence that one of Katsu's subordinates is a nearby neighbor of Mr. Yosei. Katsu first picked up the strange energy emanating from a nondescript house in the neighborhood a few weeks ago, when he was taking a drunk subordinate home after a rowdy office party. Katsu had left his subordinate home with their wife before following the energy to the source, stopping outside the property but making no move to trespass. Simply casing the location sufficed for that night.
Today was different. Today, the energy felt stronger, almost intoxicating. Even from far down the street, Katsu could feel that potent spiritual presence. He inhaled deeply, as though trying to take the energy into his lungs. Katsu was curious. Was the source a person or artifact? Was it a ritual or the land itself? He had to investigate, taking this weekend just to do so.
Katsu paid little attention to the cats that parted from his path, though he did reach out to pet one too. He looked a little out of place, wearing one of his finer blue Armani suits, dressed for business in Ginza than a Saturday in a quiet neighborhood, but not knowing what or who to expect made him want to give a good impression. Upon seeing Mr. Yosei at his door, Katsu called out a "すみません!", jogging up to the doorway.
"お名前は何ですか? いくつか質問してもいいですか?"

The cat did not growl at Katsu, but merely refused and walked away, seemingly disturbed.
The gentleman was kind enough to wait at the door for the sharp dressed fellow that wished to address him. Mr. Yosei wasn't going anywhere with that getup, with a gray yukata and worn sandals, there was also quite a bit of noise coming from his house that he seemed wholly unpreocupied with, perhaps the TV was on and it was airing old american cartoons, or there was legitimately a small stampede going in the living room. "はい、続けてください", he spoke softly, but sternly, a former man of business, if one were to guess. He kept the door half open, letting the strange phenomenom out, but also apparently letting the cats in, as the feline that had dodged Katsu helped himself in to no protest. "まずはそこから始めましょう. 私の名前は羽島 ユウセイです", he introduced himself, not requesting Katsu's name, but with visible expectation that he would return the courtesy.

Katsu gave a respectful bow upon reaching the man in the doorway, his gaze following the cat inside the house until it was out of sight. From the sound of cartoons and rowdiness, Katsu would guess that there might be children inside. "はじめまして. 株式会社ヤマダの山田と申します. 山田勝つ." said Katsu, humbly offering a business card.
"私は直接になります. 私は霊的調査員です. あなたの家を調査する必要があります. 私はその問題に対して喜んで支払います." Here was Katsu's first resort, an offer to gain entry into the house, and a diplomatic approach to solving this curiosity. Katsu didn't comment (yet) on the semi-parade of cats entering Mr. Yosei's home, but couldn't deny the potent aura emanating from inside the house. He wanted to follow the cats and bask in it.
"入ってもいいですか?"

"心霊調査員?"
Yosei stared at the business card, front and back. "山田がそんなものを扱っているとは知りませんでした。", he ruminated out loud, it was the correct Yamada that he was thinking of, not in a hundred years would he think they bothered with the occult. "まあ、問題はないと思います。お入りください"。, he considered, it was a way to liven up his retirement days if anything. He opened the door wider for Katsu to help himself in, and then closed it behind him. The place was tidy beyond belief, in spite of wind blowing in through every open doorway, humbly decorated and very scant on heirlooms beyond some family pictures, though no expenses were spared in things that were utilitarian in nature, this man managed his wealth quite well, what he didn't seem to manage all that well was his patio, which was currently the stage for a small three-way feline standoff, with a singular onlooker. Was this from where all the noise was coming from?
"獅子王!", Yosei called out, beckoning the fourth cat to turn around and scamper all the way towards him, a yellow and orange calico that looked well groomed to the street cats outside, and had a collar with its name: Shishioh. "また獲物を捕まえたようだね", Yosei commented as he reached down to pet his cat, who had pridefully brought him a dead rat, before moving on and leading Katsu to a sitting room where he could answer any inquiries.
"この「心霊調査」はどのように行われるのでしょうか?"

Katsu thanked Mr. Yosei as he was allowed inside, respectfully taking off his shoes before following the other man deeper into the home. "心霊調査員は単なる趣味です。" he said with a sheepish smile. As he looked around for the source of the noises, Katsu took a moment to appreciate the tidy interior, sharing the older man's sensibilities in decoration. When they reached the sitting room, Katsu took a seat.
"とてもシンプルです。これを使って家屋を調査することで調査を行います。" Katsu raised a hand, palm facing upward, before conjuring a small bright green flame to hover over his palm. "あなたの家はスピリチュアルなエネルギーの間欠泉です。" he explained. Katsu was burning a very very small amount of ki to create this soulfire, a fire he half-expected to swell on its own while in the midst of this mystic energy. "各部屋を確認したいと思います。ごめんなさい、その音は何ですか?" he asked, referring to the mysterious noises.

"ゴルフよりも良さそう"
Yosei jested for a moment, though he flinched as Katsu nonchallantly released his Ki in full display. Shishioh eagerly approached him and raised a paw as if to bat at it, but was quickly pulled back by his owner, who scratched the feline on the back to placate it. "私はドアを全部開けたままにしておきます。猫たちはそれが大好きです。", he explained his policy with his home, it sure looked quite tidy for him to just let stray cats walk in and out unimpended, as Katsu could see a couple of them take a break from their squabbling to quench their thirst on a cup of water carefully placed at the edge of the patio. "それは間違いなくネズミだ。", Yosei suggested the very loud noises were just some other rat under the floorboards, and consequently, the cats chasing after them, nothing that one would abscribe to the supernatural.

Katsu pulled his hand back when the cat tried to bat at the soulflame, not wanting to harm the creature. The soulfire would not damage physical objects, but to living beings with ki, they would feel an excruciating burning, even though their skin or fur would not burn.
"ゴルフより断然面白いです。"
Katsu watched the cats freely roam about the patio and interior for a few moments, feeling a sense of kinship with these carefree animals. Relaxing, play, and prey seemed to take up the entirety of the lives of Mr. Yosei's cats. It seemed nice.
"ネズミ、ね?地下はないですよね?" Katsu got up from his seat after his question, walking to all four corners of the room, waving his palm over the edges of the space of the room, watching to see if there would be any reaction from the flame over his palm, if the flame would move as though feeding from something else. He then got on his knees and pressed his ear to the floor, trying to pinpoint the source of the sounds, his palm moving over to any suspect spot on the floor.
"あなたの家は素敵だけど奇妙です。" murmured Katsu, his ear still pressed against the floor, slowly crawling around. Katsu knew he may look foolish, but he had done stranger and much worse things in previous searches for sources of magic. Looking odd in front of an elderly man in his home wasn't anything he worried about. In truth, Katsu was the elder here.

Yosei nodded that there was no basement, letting his cat go off do his thing for a bit. He kept an eye on Katsu, yet offered no questions, despite his interest being piqued by the mysticism, it was just a professional doing his work. The flame flickered once in a while, being fanned bright for a split second, whatever force was inside this house was moving, though not necessarily to avoid Katsu, if it was so close. "奇妙な? その家は何十年もそのまま残っていた。", Yosei explained, suggesting he himself hasn't felt anything himself, the interior of the house was incredibly well preserved. While his reading wouldn't lend him many conclusions while in this room, the sounds he could hear could indeed more clearly be attributed to cats causing a racket, it didn't necessarily match the direction from where this presence felt the strongest, but it was almost as if it followed after it.

"ごめん。気分を害するつもりはありませんでした。おそらく最近の変更です。"
Whenever the flame flickered or reacted as though fanned, Katsu immediately moved his hand towards the source of the disturbance, the sorcerer doing his best to follow the flow of ki with his reading. Katsu would follow the flow of ki outside of the room to other areas of the house if he had to, if his tracking led him there.
Ignoring the sounds of the cats now, Katsu followed his hand's flame to where the presence felt most powerful, closing one eye as he amplified the soulfire, letting it expand and surround his hand entirely. Testing to see if there would be any reaction, he quickly flicked his wrist, throwing a small golf ball-sized fireball out at in the direction of the presence, being careful to avoid hitting any cats with his projectile.

Yosei quietly followed after Katsu with little objection, interested in his craft, though it seems like he bit his tongue on objecting as Katsu's tracking led him to a bedroom.
It was clearly not the man's bedroom, decorated less with pictures and potteries and more with novel hobbies and study material, as well as some cat-friendly infrastructure in the walls and corners, which a couple of street cats were helping themselves to. The presence seemed to move through the walls and solid objects in the house, never making itself shown, perhaps it is why it permeated this place so thoroughly, despite being so small. If he stayed quiet to observe for a moment, he could see a strange pattern emerge. The cats moved around, and the presence lagged behind them, as if surveying their activities, but also, sometimes the cats were the ones to chase after it as it sprinted through the floor, or the walls, as if the cats perceived it, or it somehow made itself perceived by them.
With the essence crawling through the ceiling, Katsu had a clear shot to try and probe this spirit safely, which quickly moved out of the way and seemingly out of this room quite expediently to avoid the flame, however, skittish creatures as they are, this still caused one of the two felines to scamper out from the bed, to the desk, and out of the room at full speed, bumping into a piece of furniture on the way out, knocking down a tettering picture frame. Yosei worriedly hurried into the room to check for the fallen heirloom, and Katsu could feel the presence return through the floor, and then leave, before the old man picked up the picture and sighed with relief that it was intact. He placed it carefully deeper towards the wall and then walked away to chide the culprit out of his house.
The entity did not return to this corner of the house, apparently now aware of Katsu's intentions. The untidy bed and the scrambled furniture was now the only trace of disorder in Yosei's lodging, for the time being.

"あなたの家には間違いなく何かが憑いています。"
As Katsu tracked the presence throughout the room, he noticed that he had started mirroring the cats in this strange pattern. The presence seemed aware of him too at this point, seeming to dart away from Katsu's flame whenever he got close. He clicked his tongue in mild irritation. Whatever this presences was, it was evasive and small. With it's ability to move through solid objects, and it's awareness of him, Katsu was at his wits' end on how to capture this entity. He wasn't even able to identify it.
Katsu's attention was briefly taken by one of the cats scampering out of the room, watching Mr. Yosei put back the fallen heirloom before curiously inspecting the picture himself, just in case. Not expecting to find anything, Katsu left this bedroom, his attention on the cats as he tried to perceive another pattern.
"この幽霊を追い出す方法がわかりません。" he called out to Mr. Yosei.

The picture was of a young man, dressed in sharp, formal attire with a diploma, and cradling an orange kitten that Katsu might recognize. With some clues he could muster from the background, he could tell this was a fairly recent picture, likely Yosei's grandson. Given that the place was open for cats to rummage through, it was likely that this person was merely absent, rather than deceased.
Yosei was a bit more alert with policing the street cats, and only them, despite Shishioh just being let to loaf onto the tabletop, as unsanitary as it was. He turned to Katsu with a hum, skeptical about the whole affair, at the very least Katsu had convinced him of supernatural forces, but he still wasn't privy to the specifics. "あの不思議な夢は…", he briefly mentioned, perhaps recalling something that he would've considered to be out of place. "私はとても病気でした, あまり考えなかった", he added. Katsu could still feel the presence darting across every room, though it very much avoided this hall, perhaps if he turned around, he would see the room he just left be tidied up once more. If pressed for details, Yosei would describe being bedridden, and seeing a pale face in the middle of the night sky. It asked what he wanted, and he said that he wanted nothing, just to see his son come back a studied, successful man. He didn't remember much past that, just that he sweated out all the fever and felt much better the next day.
"彼の猫は彼を恋しがっている", he added. The street cats were a bit more wary of Yosei and didn't scamper around as much, Shishioh, on the other hand, went on alert and scrambled to what appeared to be a closet. The erratic movement of the essence seemed to stop and direct itself there.
