Meteor Energy Induced Superpowers: Katie was a regular teenage girl until a glowing meteor struck in proximity to her, nearly killing her in the process. Katie's body absorbed all of the radiation from the meteor, slowly and painfully changing her body at a molecular level. Weakness
Lead: Lead has a strange interaction with her powers, in proximity to a large amount will drain her energy and ability to muster most of her strength, her body won't heal as fast either. Being shot by a lead bullet is different, the velocity itself won't penetrate her dense body, but it might sting or even leave a mark if its a larger round.
Density: Water, rickety bridges, unstable buildings, someone trying to carry her to safety if she's knocked unconscious... all a giant pain in the butt due to her body's physical weight.
Energy Signature: While in the 1980s it was hard to pin down her particular energy signature from a distance when trying to find her against background radiation, modern day satellites can sniff her out in a heartbeat.
Weapons/Items:
Does your character use or keep any weapons or items on them? Pretty broad, so don't be afraid to go nuts, so long as it makes sense.
Appearance
Image:
[Katie in the 1980s]
Physical Appearance:
Originally a fair bit shorter and a bit rougher around the edges, she is now 5'7" and has a lithe but athletic looking build with visible muscles. Katie doesn't resemble the way she was before the accident, making it easier to convince herself to move on from her previous lifestyle. Out of costume, most people see Katie as the girl next door or that one girl that babysits your kids. She has incredibly sharp blue eyes that make her stand out in a crowd. Her hair is cut short, kept in a somewhat shaggy bob. Her body is free of any sort of scars or blemishes, not even a birthmark. Despite her fairly disarming appearance and slender figure, Katie weighs a staggering 400 pounds due to her altered physiology.
Clothing and Armor:
Her civilian attire is fairly laid back, but she isn't the type to wear skirts. You'll find Katie mostly wearing t-shirts, maybe a hoodie or jacket. Paired with jeans or sweat pants, maybe leggings. For a special event, you might convince her to wear a dress.
(Designed by the All-stars' inhouse fashion Integra X, this is Katie's quintessential 80s look as Meteor)
Her Meteor costume consists of a complete bodysuit featuring a patriotic color palette of red, white, and blue. In reality, it is constructed from multiple distinct sections that connect seamlessly. The outermost layer includes red sleeves and a white upper chest area that extends to her neck. This layer is designed to fit over the predominantly blue second layer, which has a side cut that begins at the armpit and extends down to the knees. A white stripe conceals the separation, and this layer continues into her gloves. The next inner layer comprises red leg sections that lead into a brief-like segment, transitioning into a short-sleeved red upper section that is, in fact, a sleeveless halter neck top. The suit is crafted to provide both mobility and various layers of protection. Surprisingly, it has a substantial weight, resembling a weighted blanket when lifted by an average individual. The ensemble is completed with a distinctive black domino mask that covers her eyes and the upper part of her face, but allows her blue eyes to shine.
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
"Straight" (Closet Lesbian)
General Personality:
Katie upfront is kind and caring, yet also headstrong and tough as nails when it comes down to it. She is quite tomboyish and athletic, yet has a flare of feminine style to her. While polite to a degree, she can come off as feisty. Despite her thick skin, she can get flustered enough to lose her cool or be embarrassed and turn into a shy wallflower. Katie sometimes has bouts of imposter syndrome on the job, honestly can't believing where or what she is doing is actually her life. When it comes to feeling fulfilled, she is satisfied by her new life, but part of her longs for her old simplistic predictable life, however the pain of her parents moving on from her death so quickly keeps her firmly rooted in the present. In personal relationships while she often thinks about men, sometimes her eyes and thoughts linger on women, making her feel unsure about herself and what she wants.
She enjoys rock and pop music, always jamming out to the latest songs on the radio or cassette tapes on her Walkman. For hobbies she loves indulging in other cultures, their foods, customs, history. Japan is one of her favorite places in the world, so much so that she made the effort to learn Japanese. Katie will absolutely suck down sushi without hesitation. Another of her interests is science fiction, she bonded with her dad watching reruns of Lost in Space, Star Trek, among others, so she'd make an effort to keep up with shows and movies whenever they came out.

History:
Just an average American girl...
Born in Austin, Texas in the year 1960, Katie had two loving parents. Nothing about her life was extraordinary, she was fairly average in every way. But that is precisely why she hated how bland her life was, like she was a character just following a script like one of the Brady bunch kids. She started sneaking out at night, skipping school here and there, to rebel just a bit. It wouldn't be until she was 14, on a clear night in the July of 1974 when a bunch of kids including her were out drinking and smoking in the backwoods of Austin when something happened. It began as a beautiful meteor shower, but quickly turned into an apocalyptic scene as some began to impact the area around them. The kids scattered about, managing to avoid the ballistic rocks. Katie was pushed by one of the older kids and fell to the ground as the largest of the meteors was coming. She got up and turned just in time to see it strike the ground before impact. Initially knocked out by the shockwave, Katie wandered the hellish scene before her. A raging forest fire and smoldering impact crater. Katie was so numb and out of it, not even realizing the extent of her injuries until people in hazmat suits arrived. Katie had suffered horrific burns, her body suffering from 3rd and even 4th degree burns, missing hair and teeth and stripped bare. She was immediately taken by the people in hazmat suits as she could hear the angry noises of a Geiger counter.
Katie was brought to some kind of facility as she passed in and out of of consciousness. During a lucid moment, a doctor told her that the radiation from the meteor had seeped into every cell of her body. Unfortunately she had been exposed to a lethal amount of radiation and her body was coated from head to toe in bandages to stop the bleeding. During this period Katie would scream out bloody murder and die for all intents and purposes, but then would surprisingly bounce back to life minutes later. Some of the more humane doctors wanted to give her a fatal dose of medication to ease her passing, but it was put on hold when Katie not only survived after the first 48 hours, but was somehow getting stronger despite bouts of extreme hemorrhaging, coughing up blood or vomiting. When the radiation detectors in Katie's room began to grow increasingly quiet, interest from up high took over Katie's care as a project instead of a patient. The meteor incident itself was covered up as a forest fire caused by a military aircraft that crashed in the area. All fragments of the meteor were recovered, the area affected was practically clean aside from enough of Katie's mostly melted personal belongings for investigators to legally declare her dead.
Somehow Katie had begun to recover, but not just recover... she got stronger, bigger. Every cell in her body had been saturated by the meteor's energy, altering it. One day, driven practically insane by an itch she needed to scratch, Katie shattered her cast and tore it off. Not only was she shocked to see healthy unburned flesh as she peeled and ripped off the outer layers, but her body had changed too. Katie had always been a bit an athletic tomboy, but never muscular as she looked now, taller too. Once passing a physical examination, Katie was put through rigorous testing at the request of interested parties more than her well being. When a scientist inadvertently mentioned the testing was finished, Katie asked about going home. The young girl's heart was broken when she learned that she had legally been declared dead 2 years ago. Distraught and wanting to see her parents, Katie broke out of the facility using her newfound strength and tried to find her way home.
Broken and remade.
After about 3 weeks of dodging manhunts, Katie managed to make it home, but was caught off-guard by what she found. Her parents had moved on, they now had 2 kids, a little boy and a baby girl. Katie broke down and cried, only for her parents who were outside playing with her new siblings to notice her. She fell into the absolute depth of dread when they didn't recognize her, believing her to be a stranger as they offered to help her. Katie ran away, tears streaming down her face as she ran at superhuman speeds for the first time. After following a string of strange reports, the government would eventually catch up to her in an old quarry. They were shocked to see she was demonstrating incredible feats of strength and durability. Mangling abandoned machines with hear bare hands, bounding into the rockfaces with headbutts strong enough to shatter rock and shake the ground as she cried out in anger and sorrow. They managed to gas her before bringing the teenage powerhouse back to the facility.
It was there that after being given some medication to calm her down, she was introduced to the American All-stars. Some of them were her age, some were older, a few were adults. It took her a little convincing by the leader of the group, Captain Freedom, before she started to at least attend some of their team building exercises. Katie mostly watched from the corner of the room or silently listened in. It took a few weeks before she started to open up, she learned that she wasn't the only broken one amongst them. But the group made a promise to be there for each other. She began attending mock scenarios, regular training, even helping someone else having a hard time. Despite her interest, they had always left her behind whenever they were called away on missions, sometimes jumping into natural disaster effected areas, stopping bad guys from hurting others, often sharing lots of interesting stories when they got back. One day she finally broke down and asked the Captain why she couldn't come along. That was the final requirement of in which they had been waiting for, the next day she was sent over to the research and development section to be fitted. Though, there was a bit of a problem in coming up with her codename. Things like Miss Meteor or Meteor Girl, among some really poor choices, Katie fought enough to simply be called Meteor.
The day after her costume was made, Meteor donned her suit and was ready for action. But instead of doing something heroic or cool, she was brought to a press event that introduced her. She was anxious, a bit awkward, but some of the crowd was eager to see a new female superhero join the American All-stars. It was just a regular thing, but as soon as they started doing actual heroics, Katie would be shocked to see All-star merchandise with Meteor on it. Apparently she was extremely sellable, she quickly moved up from background support to the main lineup in less than a few months. It was a lot to take in, both in responsibility and coverage. Somehow along the way, she managed to find the time to attend and finish high school at a nearby military base, feeling a bit more normal once again.
Darker times...
Leading up to 1980, things began to change in the world. The rise of COBRA, Russia's war in Afghanistan and later President Reagan's Evil Empire speech, it began a domino effect. While in the years proceeding 1980, the American All-stars had been purely a force for domestic servitude and keeping world peace, the tune quickly changed as the group was reorganized by magnitude of strength or ability. Patriotism and duty was called for from the high levels of their sponsors from the government, some members didn't make the cut and were assigned to the support team. Meteor along with most of the big names were kept where they were. Things were different in a flash, in the past they had strictly worked as a full team to tackle problems, but now often found themselves split up in different ways, sometimes teamed up with government agents. In this period, Katie experienced a battlefield for the first time, being shot at by machine guns or smacked around by explosions. She found herself questioning what she was doing, at least until a visit from the President changed her mind. The work the All-stars was doing around the world was very important, not just to protect the freedom of the United States, but all the people in the world who don't have a voice or power to resist tyranny. The personal visit silenced Katie's apprehension, or in the very least put a lid on it.
In this time being partnered up with different people, Katie would make friends with her teammates, other superhumans, even a few from the United States elite military unit, the GI Joe program. But she would also see people die in horrific ways. It slowly began to eat at her until the morale issue of the entire team was addressed by Captain Freedom. He organized special events, going out to see movies or concerts as a group, pizza parties, beach days... things to take one's mind off of the bleak state of the world. It was like a breath of fresh air where Katie had felt suffocated. One of the last movies they would see as a group would be Back to the Future. A somewhat comedic movie about a kid who travels back and forth through time... while fun, the group later agreed on that idea was such a preposterous thing.
OUTATIME
September 1985, a sudden all hands meeting with military and agency liaisons, code red. Initially the more veteran members thought the Russians had finally decided to push their luck, but the threat was far worse. Over the last few months, scientists, technicians and resources had been disappearing from around the world. Some of which were taken from black sites, both allied and Soviet. The recent devastation in Mexico led experts to believe that someone was building some sort of doomsday machine, clues led them to believe that it was a weaponized and upscaled version of a prototype engine that in theory could warp space-time. A recent discovery that the original model had been stolen from an inactive project storage site possibly years ago. Someone had been scheming to bring the failed project back to life, a project that on its small scale almost destroyed a good chunk of Panama. A task force made up of the All-stars and several other parties were deployed to a remote area of the Pacific Ocean, a massive oil rig in which thought to have been destroyed in a typhoon, now a repurposed into a massive armored citadel. It was a fire fight the entire way in, landing was difficult with surface to air missiles and anti air batteries, Meteor and a few others were able to make a safe corridor for the troops to land. But it wasn't just soldiers with advanced tech they went up against, they had superhumans in their midst, making it a uphill and bloody battle. Meteor wasn't part of the infiltration team due to her brawn and ability to fly, she mainly was tasked with silencing the citadel's weapons and stopping any aircraft that tried to escape.
At some point, either someone flipped a switch or something caused a power surge, the engine started up but had no one controlling its output. While at the center around the machine it was calm, all around it was like a chaotic hurricane of space being warped. Sections of thick metal were bent and folded like paper, objects turned inside out. Anyone who was caught in one of the waves would suddenly be flung at incredible velocity to the point their bodies broke apart or they were mangled into various shapes. Explosions rang out as metal screeched, it was pure panic as suddently everyone was trying to get off the rig. Katie herself was hit by one of the waves and almost felt her body twist like someone was trying to wring her body like a wet towel, but she was strong enough to not to be instantly killed like some... though it did hurt her quite a bit. She tried to get new orders but overheard on the line that Captain Freedom among others had been already killed. She froze up for a moment, contemplating everything going on as the world was bound for annihilation if nothing was done. Not waiting for orders, she fought her way through twisting metal, fire and the intense warp effect. She pushed through a boundary layer around the machine before finding herself in the calm, though she was battered, bruised and bleeding. Vaguely recalling that the engine might have a powerful but unstable power source in the briefing, she helped rip it from its heavy foundation and gave it the nudge it need to freely fly, smashing through the now sinking citadel.
Katie was now clinging to the unstable engine for dear life, protected at the center of the field as it zipped over the Earth, still trapped by its gravity. The machine was unbelievably dense, difficult for her to nudge using her paltry ability to fly, but it was enough to move it higher into the atmosphere with the pushes she gave it. It was getting faster with every passing second, the Earth below becoming a blur of colors outside of the warp field. Every nudge Katie gave moved the engine higher with every orbit over the Earth. Air resistance would prevent the engine from tipping more than a slight angle, thus she kept pushing and pushing it higher. Finally she gave it one last rock back to angle the top forward and felt it gain altitude on its own. With that she pushed off, shooting a bolt of energy at it as she was falling away from it. It the field at the center of the machine's influence shot her out with some force as it sped off into space, gaining speed as it left Earth's gravity. It then erupted into a massive explosion in space that lit up the night's sky as Katie fell to the Earth, her body coated in frost from the high altitude, not knowing that she wasn't in 1985 anymore...
In the September of 1985, the American All-stars has suffered significant casualties, their leading man Captain Freedom and most of the big names either were killed in action, crippled, retired or exclusively in Meteor's case, gone missing. The remaining members were dispersed into government agencies and stepped out of the spot light to fight in more clandestine operations. A memorial was placed in Washington D.C. in 1995 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of American All-stars and those who fell in the line of duty in not just the oil rig incident, but the entire chaotic 80s period. While some names would fade into history, a few such as Meteor would endure into the 21st century as symbols.
Role Play Sample:
Screeching metal, explosions, gunfire, screams of terror and pain. Raging fire, splattered blood, scattered body parts. Katie was supposed to be on standby, making sure everyone could safely get in and out of the metal monstrosity anchored to the ocean floor. Everyone was dying, it was pure chaos as waves of energy distorted even the air itself. Katie flew in close to get a better look only to be hit by one of the waves. "GAAH!" She screamed out in pain as it felt like something was trying to twist, crush and pull her apart at the same time, like hand was trying to wring her body out like a wet towel. She swore that she felt some things pop, but just as she was about to pass out from the pain, the wave had passed over her. Her body and outfit was a bit worse for wear, her skin having been torn in a few places, her outfit while durable had taken a bit of damage. "F-fuck... agh!" Katie gasped, landing on a platform to recover as she set a few bones into place. What the hell was going on? Did someone turn the machine on? Katie tapped on her comms, trying to get a sitrep, but could only hear shouting and chaos, even the command post on the carrier a few miles away was frantic. Her heart sank when she overheard casualty reports, Captain Freedom... all the other major member of the team were either dead or injured.
"Fuck..." Katie muttered, looking up at the blue sky for a moment to compose herself as the massive rig shook, possibly starting to sink. She balled up her fists before letting out a deep breath. Help wasn't coming, she had to do this herself. Katie then leapt into the air to get an aerial view of the rig, looking for a spot she could enter. Her blue eyes traced over the mangled steel, watching parts wriggle as if they were flexible like grass. She saw her way in just as her upwards velocity stopped. With a grunt of effort, she flew straight in, punching through some sheets of metal in the process. Katie ended up somewhere deep in the complex, the walls were twisting, swaying, groaning with every movement. Time was running out. Katie followed the sound of loud machinery. Eventually after passing several mangled bodies and a few more passing waves of warped space, she arrived at the epicenter of it all. Somehow the area just around the machine was untouched, but the large room that once contained it was now a cavernous space of crushed and warped material, it was growing bigger and definitely weakening the stilts that kept this place afloat. She couldn't even imagine what would happen if this thing sunk to the bottom of the ocean after all the quakes this thing had generated in a controlled environment.
Katie leapt forward, only to hit the inner boundary around the engine. It sent her flying backwards and against a metal wall, but she reduced her speed just in time for it to only be a small bump, it was then that she realized how many bodies were crammed into the walls of the growing cavity, almost making her vomit. She focused back on the engine and kicked off from the wall, this time using her power to push herself against the force trying to keep her out, she could hear some loose sections of her outfit ripping off just before she managed to slip inside the calm eye of the storm. Looking at the engine ominously hum, it made her feel uneasy, but as she looked over its monolithic structure, she saw that it was held in place onto what was left of the platform by a few bolts. With a few kicks, the structure got loose from the platform. Katie pushed against the engine before giving it a push with her power, gasping as it suddenly rocketed out of the structure. Katie grabbed onto the surface for dear life as she felt herself floating away from it. This thing was supposedly powered by something really powerful to do all this. Shoving this thing into space was only safe solution as she noticed the outside passing by increasingly faster.
Katie tried using her power, shoving it in a way that would angle it upwards, but it only moved a few hundred feet higher from what she could see as the Earth blurred beneath her. She waited for her energy to recharge, doing it again, this time going higher than the first time. "Come on you big bastard!" She grunted, pushing it again and again. Every time she felt like it was easier to move it, but she couldn't even guess how high she was after more than a dozen pushes with her efforts. It was getting hard to breath, it was cold... had to be a few thousand in the air at least. If she pivoted it just right, it might veer upwards. Katie gave it light pulses of force, causing it to wobble upwards before giving it everything she had, holding onto a fraction of energy. The blue around her began to look more black, she could feel the cold creeping into her suit. She pushed off, floating away from it. But just as she felt the tug of the field trying to push her out, she fired a shot straight into the body of the machine, causing an eerie blue glow to leak out from its innards. Katie took in what little air was trapped in the bubble as she was kicked out, watching it the machine streak out into space before catching a glint of light. She shielded her eyes as the damaged machine then erupted into a massive fusion explosion in deep space that briefly lit up the Earth like second sun, turning night into day for a few moments before the brilliant light began to fade.
Katie felt herself falling back to Earth, the sound of the air ripping around her as frost coated the outer layers of her suit and exposed skin. She was so tired, she didn't even know what altitude she was. Would she even be able to muster enough of her power to soften her fall? If she hit at terminal velocity would she be in one piece? She feared landing in a body of water, that without energy to propel herself, she would not only be injured by the impact... but she would sink almost immediately. As Katie fell, she managed to turn her head just enough to catch sight of land beneath her as the last of the glow faded. She closed her eyes and tried to concentrate, preparing to muster the last bit of her energy to catch herself, praying for the first time in a long time... she hoped she'd land somewhere close to civilization.

Meteor Energy Induced Superpowers: Katie was a regular teenage girl until a glowing meteor struck in proximity to her, nearly killing her in the process. Katie's body absorbed all of the radiation from the meteor, slowly and painfully changing her body at a molecular level. It took almost 2 years for her to recover from the meteor, in that time she grew stronger, different.
- Superhuman Strength: Able to mangle steel and throw heavy equipment around, Katie's pinky obviously has more strength than a regular human does. While very gentle most of the time, she sometimes forgets her own strength when angered. Such strength allows her to leap hundreds of feet in bounds or push herself beyond what a regular human could do.
- Superhuman Durability: Not initially as resistant as she is now, Katie can now shrug off bullets and knifes without issue. An explosion with enough force, might rupture her skin, but it would require a great amount of force to damage her internally. At the same time, her body has grown too molecularly dense for her to be buoyant in sea water. Her body is also resistant to radiation sources, shrugging off gamma and x-rays, infrared to a certain degree.
- Regeneration Factor: It is highly probable that her survival of a lethal dose of radiation and severe burns can be attributed to the few cells that remained intact after the initial radiation exposure. These cells underwent mutations, initiating a gradual yet agonizing metamorphosis. As she developed her abilities, the rate of her regeneration also accelerated. Throughout her training, she was exposed to various forms of conventional warfare and experimental weaponry, aimed at assessing not only her pain threshold but also the speed at which she could regenerate a lost limb. Initially, this process would take approximately a week, but after establishing her capabilities, the regeneration time was reduced to mere hours. Since becoming a member of the All-stars, she has come to understand several key aspects: first, utilizing her energy can enhance her healing speed, albeit at the cost of her stamina; second, extensive regeneration leads to fatigue and increased hunger; and third, her aging process appears to have been somewhat slowed, leading her to conclude that, despite being 25 years old, her physical appearance is younger than her actual age.
- Superhuman Endurance: Katie shows a surprising amount of resistance to fatigue, taking several hours of working out at her limits before actually getting tired. Though if pushed that far, she may sleep for several days and then require a few thousand calories worth of food to fully recover.
- "Flight": Katie can fly... somewhat. She learned that she can flex the energy inside of her body to launch her body forwards like a slingshot at high speed. However thrust is not maintained, in order to continue to stay in the air or change direction, she must flex the energy again in order to do so.
- Energy Emission: In the same vein as flexing her energy inward to "fly", Katie can focus this energy outwards into a pulse, beam or small explosion around her. However it is limited by the fact she can only generate so much energy, expending a large volumes of this energy restricts her ability to fly or stay in a fight.
