Class:
Caster
Alias:
Відьма || Witch
True Name: Баба-яга || Baba Yaga
History:
A witch - if not the witch - of Slavic mythology said to live in the forests inside a chicken legged hut. She served as an elderly sage in many tales, often providing wisdom or aid to a wayward hero through various forms of witchcraft. Her legend has since transcended the Slavic legends, going on to become one of the most prominent witches known the world over, in the same circles as Circe and Morgan Le Faye. Unlike these two, however, the inklings of Baba Yaga have been more guide than villain, however monstrous her depictions. Nevertheless, the Slavic Witch remains one of the greatest witches of myth, reflected in this Heroic Spirit and the incredible magical power she wields as a Caster.
Personality:
As viciously as the tales of Baba Yaga have portrayed the witch, her character prior to the stark outcry against witches was one of kindly motherhood to those of the forest and any who visited her in need of her assistance. This kindly demeanor is what was recorded in the Throne of Heroes, resilient to the rampant hatred of witches throughout Europe soon after the stories of Baba Yaga began to spread. However, the witch has little love for humans, men most of all, for how poorly they have regarded women mages throughout history, least of all witches. She will respect her Master to a point, provided that they prove themselves to be sincere towards women and carry an earnest purpose for the Grail. She will not hesitate to scold or even discipline her Master should she deem it necessary to do so. Baba Yaga is in many ways a doting mother… in other ways, a vicious shrew who should not be recklessly spurned.
Weapon of choice:
Baba Yaga has a gnarled staff, carved from the branch of an old, mystic tree, through which she channels her spells. It can also be used particularly well in disciplining her Master.
Noble Phantasm:
курячий будиночок: Hut of the Sage
Type: Fortress, Anti-Army
Rank: A+
The hut that Baba Yaga lived in to practice her magecraft, more of a living creature than an actual house. She uses this as her base of operation as well as a means of attacking her enemies directly. While it usually only takes the shape of a house with two chicken legs, Baba Yaga can use more prana to make it fuse with the hut of her "sisters", other versions of her legend that manifest through this Noble Phantasm.
This activation will make her house bigger and more monstrous in appearance, giving it two to four extra legs as it gets larger, becoming a veritable mobile fortress. Despite its tremendous size, the Noble Phantasm retains its surprising agility and grace in its movements. It can use its multiple legs to strike out at any threats and the door can be used as a mouth filled with rotating teeth to rip its owner’s foes to shreds.
The hut is almost completely immune to spells, as it is covered in several layers of high-level defense magecraft, giving it a Magic Resistance equal to the A+ rank. Should an intruder manage to breach the surface defenses, the labyrinthine interior of the hut is also filled with all manner of traps that will need to be overcome before one can reach Baba Yaga or her cauldron.
The hut may crouch down on the ground, concealing its chicken legs and taking the shape of a normal house, though the overwhelming aura of magecraft - and its monstrous aura, if that feature of the Noble Phantasm is active - exuding from the hut is difficult to completely suppress; such is the nature of a Noble Phantasm.
міномета і пестика: Witch’s Tools
Type: Support (Self)
Rank: C+
Baba Yaga's famed mortar and pestle that she used to fly through the air. The mortar itself is large enough to accompany a few passengers, including Baba Yaga. It uses its own source of prana, which is essentially limitless for the purposes of movement. When this Noble Phantasm is active, Baba Yaga's agility increases to A+ rank, making her much harder to pin down. She can also use her pestle as an amplifier for her Witchcraft skill or as a mace in close combat.
Skills:
Class Skills
Territory Creation - EX
Baba Yaga is capable of creating a Phantasmal Hut that is superior to a Temple and at the same time use a forest as a territory, everything that makes it up being under her command afterwards. She is the Slavic Witch of the Wilds, and any forest is her native domain.
Item Creation - A
Baba Yaga’s mortar and pestle can be used to create multiple kinds of high-ranking Mystic Codes, including a potion of limited immortality. The cauldron in her hut is also capable of performing Item Creation at the same level, though her mortar and pestle Noble Phantasm allows her to do so while on the move.
Personal Skills
Animal Dialogue - A
As a Witch of the Wilds, Baba Yaga was directly attuned to the nature of animals, and could commune with them on a level beyond man’s understanding with one another. Baba Yaga has been considered in many tales to be the goddess of nature itself, her power short only of Magical Beasts.
Clairvoyance - A
As one of the oldest witches in legend, and arguably the most potent, Baba Yaga has foresight with clarity that is on the level of oracles. There are few things clouded to her, lest they be obfuscated by fate itself. It is very difficult for her to be taken by surprise, though she is no warrior; she could easily be outwitted in the heat of battle.
Familiars (Spirits) - B
Baba Yaga is able to use several different kinds of spiritual beings as familiars. Spectral animals, floating hands, and Nature Constructs are but a few examples of what she has at her disposal through her Witchcraft Skill. She can summon a large number of familiars at a time and can control them by thought alone, and does not need to establish a contract beforehand.
High-Speed Divine Words - A
High-Thaumaturgy-level Magecraft can be cast at the speed of Single-Action spells.
Witchcraft - EX
Baba Yaga is the definitive witch in Slavic folklore, and has persisted in her legend for centuries. She is one of the first names that comes to mind when one thinks of witches, and a patron sage and mother for the Slavic people in many ways. The Slavic witch is capable of the greatest of witchcraft, going so far as to place terrible curses, heal otherwise fatal wounds, divine the future with great clarity, and even fly through the air on her large mortar and pestle. Her legends as a witch are second only to Circe, though Yaga's magic is in many ways more diverse. Baba Yaga is particularly coy with her magecraft, often taking it to amusing lengths, such as presenting herself as illusory forms that match the impressions of her legend, content in perpetuating falsehoods to her liking.
Physical appearance:
Contrary to the prevailing beliefs about Baba Yaga, the Slavic witch was no hag, nor that elderly in the first place. She was a rather fair woman, albeit one in the stereotypical attire of a witch, as became custom for all of her kind. Her body was average, more bookish in appearance than any voluptuous assumptions men have had for sorceresses. Were she not clad in the attire the legends dictated for her, Baba Yaga could quite easily pass for a teacher.
Though this is Baba Yaga’s natural form, the tales of her cruel nature have persisted to this day, something that has not once left the witch’s irritated mind. Should one provoke the ire of the witch, she is more than eager to welcome superstition. She can take on the form of a wretched crone, looming large as a linden tree, with flowing ivory locks draped in white shocks. Though many may believe this to be Baba Yaga’s true form, or worse, a Noble Phantasm, it is little more than a simple illusion, allowing those expecting to find a wretched myth to be met with mere mockery.
Clothing and Armor: Baba Yaga wears the garb of a stereotypical witch, from the gaudy hat to the flowing dark robes, if more well-kempt than the rags of misconstrued tales. A pair of spectacles adorn the witch’s eyes, though it is unclear if they are necessary for her to see or read at all, or merely a modern aesthetic choice. Amused though she is by the modern world, Baba Yaga does not seem interested in taking a separate form to better blend in, opting instead to remain out of sight in the first place, unless her Master asks it of her.
