"Gilneas will prevail!"
General Information
Name:
Genn Greymane
Alias:
King of Gilneas
The Old Wolf
Age:
54
Origin Game:
Warcraft (Canon)
Homeland:
The Realm
Faction:
Stormwind
Gender:
Male
History:
The city-state of Gilneas has always had a Greymane ruling over it and protecting its inhabitants and borders. The most recent iteration of said family line, Genn, is no different. Raised by his pragmatic father, Archibald Greymane, Genn was trained in all things surrounding statecraft and diplomacy, but also in more rigorous combat training and ruling through force. After all, Gilneas was a nation known for its patriotic strength and solidarity, even in such a dogmatic country as Thedas. They were one of many kingdoms and fiefdoms refusing to surrender and bend the knee to the Tevinter Imperium, rejecting their demands of fealty and swearing independence from their hegemony. Even if attempts at peace and mutual co-existence had been an option at the negotiation gatherings, Genn's stubborn nature and patriotism to his own kingdom made short work of any attempts at real diplomacy, something he'd come to realize in his older years. It is even said that at one such meeting, the demands of the Tevinter representative were so egregious to Genn, that he promptly decapitated the "peaceful" Tevinter diplomat once he shut his mouth, declaring that that's how he'd prefer every single Tevinter scum to exist; cold and silent as death. He was of course met with criticism for such a harsh rebuttal, but to Genn, it did not matter. Gilneas always came first in his mind.
However, this would seemingly have dire ramifications for not just him, but his entire kingdom. Years went by without a single diplomat from Tevinter being sent, and in that time, Gilneas enjoyed a rather somber time of peace, and Genn grew both wiser and tempered over time, even managing to find a woman capable of putting up with him in Mia, whom he'd marry and have two children with; his daughter Tess, and his son Liam. Despite all this, however, Genn felt that the "peace" that Gilneas was enjoying was no ideal peace. It was quiet, and dreadful. Like some feral beast waiting in the tall grass, ready to pounce at a moment's notice.
And pounce it did, in the form of the Worgen Curse. Nobody knows where it came from, not even those who were first around when it spread like a virulent plague across Gilneas. Some historians speculate that Genn had angered a rather eccentric mage from the neighboring kingdom of Ferelden, and the mage had created this arcane disease out of spite and desire for revenge, but no concrete evidence has ever been delivered. Regardless, the Curse spread across Gilnean lands like wildfire, infecting its inhabitants with a form of lycanthropy that'd turn them into bestial creatures seemingly at random, hungering for nothing but human blood and flesh. The Curse did not spare anyone, and eventually, Gilneas was deemed a danger to itself, and evacuations were ordered. Genn lead the evacuation efforts himself, and had to fight off a Worgen Alpha to protect his family, but was in turn wounded, and infected himself. Strangely, he was able to control his own transformation, along with a handful of other Gilneans who had contracted the Curse. These individuals, along with Genn himself, would serve as the first line of defense between Gilneas' citizenship and those "feral" Worgen that were unable to come to their senses.
Long and hard did Gilneas press on, until they were able to reach a neighboring kingdom that had also refused to surrender to the rule of Tevinter; Stormwind. Ruled over by King Varian Wrynn, who welcomed Genn and the surviving Gilneans within Stormwind's walls, treating them as refugees and giving them shelter and food. Genn was at first suspicious of Varian's intentions, but all was made clear one day when him and Varian engaged in discussion over their situations, and how similar they both seemed; both nations had been harassed and tormented by the Tevinter Imperium, and both sought to declare independence from it. Tragedy had struck them both, albeit in different ways. Genn still had his wife and family. Varian only had his only son, Anduin, remaining. But Genn had lost a significant portion of his own people, something that Varian gave condolences to, promising that no more Gilnean lives would be wasted under the protection of Stormwind.
And so, Genn agreed to ally himself with Stormwind, now seeking to protect both his people and the kingdom who took them in.
Drive:
Genn is a man of passion for his people and kingdom, and that passion has now been tarnished by the outbreak of the Worgen Curse. Whether it was the Tevinter Imperium being the culprit, or some other arcane mishap that got out of control, does not matter. His one true goal is to retake his former home of Gilneas, and restore it to its former glory. But, with his recent inclusion into the kingdom of Stormwind, it has left him with even more things on his mind. The aid and support given by Varian and his people is truly appreciated, but old fears and paranoia still gnaws at his mind, wondering if he can fully trust Stormwind, even with their overwhelming display of care and oaths of protection. He has already disregarded "aid" once before, and now worries it might happen again with Stormwind thrusting a proverbial dagger in their back. One only has to wonder what will break him first; his campaign to retake his home, or his growing mental distress.

(Human Form)
(Worgen Form)
Genn is a rather tall and well-built man with few blemishes upon his being, save for his numerous battle-scars littered across his form, mostly over his front-side and arms, along with a healed scar of a bite-wound upon his left shoulder. His hair is short-kept and grey in color, both indicative of his age, and the hereditary hair color of the Greymane family line. His Worgen form is significantly taller and more muscular, but is more built for the role of an ambush predator and hunter, rather than a pure warrior. But people should still not underestimate the raw power of his Worgen form!
Personality
"Stormwind has done us a great service, for this I am eternally grateful."
Genn as a person is a complicated matter. There is no doubt that he is a great leader of his people, as he has numerous times gained their support and adoration over his years as king of Gilneas, but he is also viewed with a small portion of fear from those same people. His love for his kingdom and people is so fierce that it has sometimes lead to him lashing out at those who oppose it with brutal accusations and sometimes even having to be talked down from making the altercation physical. He is stubborn and trapped in his ways at times, finding it hard to adapt to new situations that require him to see things from a new point of view, as his old ways have always worked out in the end. He has tried his best to make himself accept that new methods have to be applied, but at the same time he is staunchly proud of his way of ruling and leading his people. Slights against his character and/or kingdom are taken to the utmost degree, and even if the speculated rumors of a Tevinter mage being responsible for the curse upon his people would be proven false, he would still blame the Imperium for pressuring him and his people for so long.
Still, he is capable of relenting and trying new things, eventually. Usually with lord knows how much coaxing from those he views closest to his person, especially his wife Mia.
The Worgen Curse upon his people has also left him extremely conflicted over his own capabilities, as he did not see it coming at all, and could only react once his kingdom had nearly been consumed by the Curse's affliction upon his people AND himself. It has left him melancholic at times, and worried over his future, and whether he'll be seen as his people's proud and staunch ruler, or just some old angry mutt who refuses to change his ways.
Equipment
His usual equipment consists of his Gilnean attire of a firm leather coat and under-armor, a steel dagger hidden within his coat, an ornate straight sword kept on his left hip, and a blackpowder pistol strapped on his right-hand side.
Abilities/Powers
Genn naturally has the charisma and speechcraft of a leader and king, though it would be viewed as very 'forceful' by some other leaders. But his confidence and stubbornness are actually a boon in these circumstances, as it lets him perform these talents without doubt or hesitation.
He is also a very talented swordsman and duelist with skills honed by only the best his Gilnean instructors could offer him. He is relentless in close quarters combat, using both blade and pistol with deadly efficiency.
Genn, like most of his people, was stricken with the Worgen Curse as it descended upon Gilneas and its people, but he is one of the handful of people who did not fully succumb to its maddening influence, becoming true Worgen who are able to control their transformations and mental faculties while transformed. Genn is already a considerable warrior as a human, but his strength and abilities only increase once he lets the beast take form.
As a Worgen, Genn has incredibly heightened physical capabilities and senses, as befitting that of a beast in human form. His strength, stamina, reflexes and senses are heightened to incredible levels, making him an even more formidable figure than he already is.
Roleplay Sample
It wasn't often Genn was pushed this hard by an enemy. But this "blood mage" was something else. Every time a wound was carved upon his flesh, the bleeding seemed almost unnatural, soaking the ground beneath him in puddles of it. He felt weak, heaving for breath as the tangy haze of hot iron filled his nose and lungs. It was... foul. But also exhilarating all the same. His senses were a blur, nary able to hear the goading of the Tevinter blood mage.
"AND TO THINK, I WAS EXPECTING THE BLOOD OF A BEAST TO POUR FROM YOUR VEINS, "OLD WOLF". HOW SORELY DISAPPOINTED I AM."
The insult was only met by a soft, but notable grin from Genn, as he raised his head to meet the foul practitioner's gaze. Blood pouring from a cut on his cheek, a small vein of the red river pouring into the corner of his mouth. Iron-y tones were tasted in his mouth. His muscles twitched, pulsating which only drove more blood out of his veins. He felt his whole body convulse with the urge... the NEED... to hell with it. He might as well give this bastard what he wants. His back arches with an audible *CRACK* as Genn lets out a snarl of agony, his body going against its god-given nature and design as he gives in to the urges gnawing in his skull.
He wanted a beast? He wanted the BLOOD of one? He was going to get one.
"You... ought to choose your words more carefully, heretic..." he huffs out, another loud snap of bones deforming and reforming and he retches, his gums and teeth burning in his mouth from the brutal transformation, but he manages to snarl out; “A monster lurks in my veins..."
"Threaten my people, and it will be the last thing you ever see.”
