General Information
Name: Cahya Shenden
Identity: Momma Bear
Gender: Female
Age: 37
Date of Birth: November 7th
Place of Origin: Japan
Occupation: Pro-Hero, rank 5
Faction: Hero agency
Appearance
Visual Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Cahya is a extremely well-built dark-skinned woman. While her quirk enabled her to grow very physically strong without acquiring much visible muscle mass due to how her muscles regenerated so quickly, she never let up on her training, and her well-developled muscles are the result of tireless effort and training. She radiates confidence and passion in all that she does, and takes great pride in her appearance due to how hard she had to work to achieve. Her curly brown hair is also meticulously maintained as part of her cultural heritage as a woman of color, and the sun tattoos on her shoulders are of tribal origin, representing life, prosperity, and renewal. She has a third on her stomach representing motherhood.
Civilian Clothes: When Cahya isn't working she tends to be seen in workout attire, as her free time is spent either training, or helping manage the orphanage with its abundance of children, their various quirks making it a very physically demanding job not suited for any attire but her workout clothes.
Hero Outfit:
Regenerative Fiber Gi - since Cahya's quirk doesn't extend to her clothes naturally, she had to get a specialized fabric designed using strands of her own hair as a base, this allows the clothes to regenerate as fast as she does and avoids the issue of being left exposed.
Iron Fist Bracers - while looking like cloth wrapped around her fists and forearms, the materials that make these bracers are actually artificially gerated metal threads that are both extremely dense and heavy, and very durable. This adds a significant amount of weight to her punches, as well as protects her body from the impact of said punches to keep the structure of her arm intact and prevent the force from being wasted due to her arm giving way before the thing she's striking does.
Metamaterial Sash - while it looks like its just for show, the cloth sash worn on Cahya's waist is an advanced piece of support tech made of materials that can harden to retain their shape, or soften to move about like cloth. When hardened the cloth is as strong as steel, letting Cahya use the sash as a rope to bind and capture villains, tie objects together securely, lasso onto things, etc... unfortunately the sash does not regenerate like her clothes can, as it proved impossible to incorporate her genetic material into the complex artificial materials it is made of.
Impact anklets - the anklets and cloth bindings around Cahya's feet function much like the Iron Fist Bracers, increasing her weight and the impact of her kicks. However the anklets are detachable, allowing her to lighten her body for greater speed if needed, they're also designed with divets that make them remarkably aerodynamic, so once removed Cahya can throw them as projectiles.
Martial arts weapons- Cahya doesn't carry this all the time with her hero outfit, specially engineered weapons like a staff and tonpaas are available to her that make full use of her strength by being dense and heavy for maximum striking force. However since her outfit doesn't come with a convienient way to carry them she often goes without, either leaving her sidekicks to bring them along or only bringing them to encounters she knows for a fact she will be fighting in.
Utility thigh band - the metal band on her upper thigh serves as a utility belt for a variety of minor gadgets useful for regular hero work, such as communicators, first aid supplies, tracking beacons, emergency flares, and other small gadgets.
Aquatic deployment gear - Cahya doesn't typically carry the full outfit on her unless expecting to need it. But she does have a special aquatic suit with powerful water jets and a rebreather for when she needs to do hero work in flooded or aquatic areas, as her quirk renders her completely incapable of swimming. She usually has the rebreather on her in case she unexpectedly is submerged in water however.
Personality
Bad Habits: Cahya has no work/life balance at all, to the point where she's not even sure what she'd do with herself if she actually tried to relax. She's always either working, taking care of the children, or training, and hasn't properly relaxed in years. She also tends to approach problems from a "punch first, ask questions later" angle.
Goal: To be a role model for young girls everywhere, and to provide a loving home for anyone orphaned by a villain attack
General Personality: Cahya is, in a word, passionate. Everything she does she brings an energy to that is unrivaled. She never accepts anything but the best from herself, pushing her limits constantly and working herself to the bone. She takes fierce pride in her achievements and is not afraid to boast about them, not as a means to show off, but because she wants to inspire others to follow her example and give them some of her confidence.
She also takes pride in her cultural heritage, as an African woman born and raised in Japan she was always different from those around her, sometimes this resulted in bullying and ostracization, but she never showed even a hint of shame at her heritage being different. To the contrary, she leans into it and loudly and boldly takes pride in it. She got tattoos in the style of the tribe her ancestors hailed from specifically to spread awareness of their culture in the media as a hero, she spends a great deal of time styling her hair for maximum curls for the same reason. She doesn't do this in a way that puts Japanese culture down, but rather as a way to stand up and affirm that her own culture is glorious and valid, and that everyone who feels like an outsider can still become someone great if they put the work in like she did.
Her strong desire to inspire others ties closely to another major character trait. Cahya is extremely caring and nurturing with the softest of soft spots for children in particular. While she herself is infertile due to a mixture of genetic factors and her quirk, she had always yearned to be a mother one day, so she embraced the concept of found family and channels all her motherly urges into caring for and raising the children of the orphanage she founded. She frequently campaigns for causes benefitting children, goes out of her way to personally train children at the orphanage who want to become heroes, and even sometimes does photoshoots and PR campaigns to spread positive messages using her fame and influence. In many regards she is the epitome of a hero.
Unfortunately Cahya is also more than a bit headstrong. And while she isn't unintelligent, her stubbornness limits her ability to choose the best course of action in many instances. She has a habit of charging into situations with a "punch the probelem until it goes away" strategy and relies on her physique and regeneration to compensate for any tactical errors. This often leads to her accidentally causing problems in terms of collateral damage, or in her charging facefirst into a trap. However since her agency and sidekicks usually bail her out she never really learns her lesson no matter how many times it gets taught to her, much to the eternal exasperation of said sidekicks. The media also sometimes uses her straightforward and uncompromising determination to drum up some scandal or another, making up some bogus conflict and counting on the fact that she won't back down if she believes she's in the right and will stubbornly stand her ground and continue adding fuel to whatever fire they started up. Mostly the public has caught onto what the media is doing in these situations, but since the tactic makes headlines and brings in views anyway it continues anyway, and Cahya has categorically refused to change how she acts to avoid it.
Personal Life
Mother: Achara Shenden, quirk: Hyper regeneration, allows her to regenerate rapidly from almost any injury, even lost organs can be replaced, though the brain can only withstand moderate damage before permanent effects are sustained even after regeneration of the tissue, usually in the form of memory loss or mental degradation. As a side effect of the quirk the process of aging is drastically slowed.
Father: Feng Shenden, quirk: Steel Body - Feng's muscle fibres and bones share many properties of steel, being exceptionally tough, dense, and strong.
Siblings:
Extended family:
History: Cahya wasn't born into any particularly special circumstances as a kid. Her parents were foreigners to Japan who had moved there for their careers. Her mother was a model whose perpetual youth made her invaluable to the industry, even if she wasn't the most popular model in Japan due to being a foreigner. Her father meanwhile was a moderately successful businessman, albiet a bit too timid to really climb the corporate ladder.
So Cahya was born to an upper middle class family, her parents worked a lot but didn't neglect her, she wasn't ever living luxuriously but her family was never short on money either. It was a pretty comfortable and average life in most regards for her early years.
Things did get a bit more difficult once she entered school though. Japanese culture is notoriously harsh towards foreigners, and with her skin color there was no hope of blending in. She was an outsider from day one, and found it hard to make friends even when she wasn't being actively bullied. Her appearance was disparaged, her heritage insulted, her belongings vandalized, the works. It wasn't an uncommon story for outsiders in Japan, for better or worse this was simply how things are for kids like Cahya. A lonely existence as an outcast from society, disparaged and put down for the circumstances of their birth.
But did things really have to be that way? Cahya was sad at how she was being treated, but she realized at a young age that just because the other kids were saying these mean things about her didn't make them true. She and her ancestry and culture were just as valid as anyone else's... and so were all the other kids like her who were ostracized over such things. All she needed to do was make everyone realize that and prove it, and in doing so she could let everyone else being othered like she was that they weren't alone, and they were still valid no matter what.
So instead of becoming meek and trying to blend in as best she could, caving to the abuses of her peers and keeping her head down, Cahya went the express opposite route. She learned everything she could about her lineage, all the way back to the tribes in Africa her parents descended from, she learned their history and customs, and proudly practiced them in defiance of the bullies. If they insulted her naturally curly hair, she'd look up a way to style it in line with her culture, if they insulted the way she dressed, she doubled down on the style. She fiercely affirmed her validity and value to her peers again and again, and it actually did start making a difference. Slowly but surely the bullying stopped, then she even began making friends as people began to see her for who she really was instead of through the lens of judging her for her skin color or heritage.
It was a resounding success on the small scale of her classmates and grade at school, but Cahya was never one to do things by halves. She wanted to prove herself to the whole country, sending her message to everyone who needed to hear it to either feel less alone or to learn to change their way of thinking. So she started studying to become a hero.
Her time in U.A. wasn't particularly eventful at first. She did passably on the entrance exams, got solid grades and trained hard. She wasn't at the top or bottom of her class, she had solid showings at the sports festival each year, though she never placed in the top three. All in all it was a pretty bog standard experience for a hero student... at least until she got her provisional license and started doing fieldwork.
It was a villain attack that inspired Cahya's second passion and goal for her career. A particularly nasty attack at that. A gang of villains went on a rampage all over a small city Cahya was working in during a work-study. The damage was extensive. Pro heroes responded to the attack quickly, but the villains were attacking simultaneously in multiple parts of the city, and while the response was swift, there were still a great deal of casualties. It was a tragedy that would leave a mark on any rookie hero, a grim reminder that they couldn't always save everyone. And Cahya did receive that mark, but she was more deeply affected by the sight of a young child crying over the dead bodies of their parents, covered in filth and injuries, but everyone around the scene was too busy tending to the wounded or trying to put out fires and prevent further damages to pay the child any mind. They were cold, hurt, alone, grieving... and nobody was helping them.
It broke Cahya's heart to see this sight, and it made her realize that every time a villain attack like this happened, there were kids out there who were left orphans. Some might be taken in by extended family, but what about those who weren't? or whose extended family treated them poorly? Would anyone truly help them? Or would they simply be left alone to cry as the world moved around them like this child?
That was an unacceptable conclusion. Cahya refused to accept it, and thus the seed for her future career as a pro hero was planted. Once she got her full license and began doing hero work properly she quickly gained popularity and status. She was no top ten hero, but she was a cut above the majority of pros and it showed. And once she saved up enough money she started the organization that would soon come to define her as a hero. An orphanage that specialized in taking in and raising children who lost their parents to villain attacks. Therapists, teachers, doctors, Cahya spared no effort or expense to gather the best she could to staff her orphanage. She couldn't save everyone, couldn't prevent every scenario of a child losing their parents to a villain, but she wanted to make absolutely sure that those children were taken care of just as well as their parents could've.
So fervent were her efforts, in fact, that the public actually took to calling her by a new hero name. She hadn't originally named herself Momma Bear when she first started as a hero, but with her immense physical strength, how much effort she put into the orphanage, and how protective of children in general she was, the affectionate nickname from her fans spread like wildfire and stuck to her. Eventually she decided to simply embrace it and officially changed her hero name, much the the joy of her fans.
Time passed, Cahya steadily progressed from being a sidekick in an agency, to running solo, to starting her very own agency as her reputation improved. What was more, some of the older kids her orphanage took in were inspired by her and became pro heroes themselves, joining her agency as sidekicks to help their beloved "Momma" and to work to protect others from losing family like they had. This bolstered Cahya's reputation greatly, leading to even more people flocking to her agency and making it grow incredibly fast, starting up branches in various cities with their own orphanages and heroes all under the Bear Den's umbrella. Her likable personality, general effectiveness as a hero, wholesome uplifting messages about acceptance and embracing who you were, and good Samaritan reputation from her charitable efforts have made her a huge success as a pro hero, and her popularity only continues to grow over time.
Recently, Cahya and the Bear Den have started a new charitable venture in cooperation with the Japanes government and other prominent hero agencies. She has launched a rehabilitation program for criminals and vigilantes to get a fresh start in life. Recognizing that many villains are simply people society has failed in some way who don't truly want to be "evil" and just need a helping hand, and that vigilantes are just trying to help in their own way but simply lack the training and discipline of heroes for one reason or another. She has launched this program to give such individuals a chance to get the help they need to reintegrate into society, or even to become pro heroes themselves.
Quirk
Name: Will of Steel
Quirk Type: Mutant
Power: Cahya inherited both of her parent's quirks in a hybridized form. Like her father her muscles and bones possess the properties of steel, granting her naturally enhanced strength, durability, and weight, and like her mother she regenerates from injuries at very high speed.
Minor injuries vanish almost instantly (1 post)
Moderate injuries like gashes, bone fractures, and stab wounds can heal in just a few moments (2-5 posts)
More severe injuries do still take time to heal that can be inconvenient in a battle, things like fully broken bones, large slash wounds, impalement, and other wounds that would be life-threatening for a normal person take several minutes (posts) to fully recover. (5-10 posts depending on if Cahya is in combat and just how severe the injuries are, Cahya also needs time to rest after the battle to recover the energy spent for the regeneration)
Amputations, loss of limbs etc will need far longer to regrow and won't be able to be just done in a single thread.
She can even regenerate lost organs provided her body can survive without that organ for long enough without shutting down. Depending on the organ and how badly damaged it is, this process can take anywhere from a few days to over a week. The body prioritizes restoring basic functionality to the organ first to get it working on a minimum level quickly so as to avoid complications from things like a missing liver and the like, but full recovery takes more time.
Unfortunately this does mean her heart and brain are still vulnerable, as if the heart is damaged enough her quirk struggles to repair it while also repairing damage caused by cells dying from blood/oxygen deprivation. Outside medical assistance is needed to ease the workload of her quirk and allow for regeneration, and going too long without receiving said assistance can be fatal as her body simply runs out of resources to regenerate with and the damage overwhelms it. And the brain is even more vulnerable, as while it can regenerate, the quirk does not remember the neural pathways and simply generates brain cells to replace the lost ones. This can result in varying degrees of permanent mental damage, memory loss, even ego death, depending on the severity of the damage and sheer luck of how the replacement cells fall into place.
Apart from the natural advantage being able to regenerate, the interaction between her muscles regenerating immediately and the enhanced capacity of the steel muscle fibers leads to Cahya having achieved a degree of superhuman physical capabilities. When she exercises and her muscles break down from lactic acid, they regenerate stronger immediately even as she continues to exercise, as opposed to over the course of days like for normal humans. This alone would allow her to reach peak human physical fitness with ease, never needing to even take a break to rest her muscles, let alone take days off to recover from being sore. However since her body structure is naturally so much stronger than regular humans, her potential for building dense and powerful muscles is increased dramatically, a fact she has made great use of to become extremely strong, and still actively trains to improve as much as she can
Supermoves:
Bear claws! - Using her body's natural steel properties Cahya slashes at a target using her fingers like claws, while not nearly as sharp as actual claws, they do have the strength and stability to rip and tear through many materials
Iklwa! - similar to bear claws in concept, using her body's natural properties to mimic weaponry with her fists. This one she named after the African short spear as a nod to her heritage. She thrusts with two fingers in a jab, concentrating the force on a small surface area to increase its piercing ability, while the steely body keeps her from breaking her fingers in the process
Bear hug! - exactly what it sounds like, Cahya's immense strength and weight make it incredibly hard to escape her grasp when she goes for a bear hug, and she often uses this to capture villains. Her regeneration negating any damage they might do to her to try and break free.
Living cannonball - Cahya weighs quite a lot, with how densely built she is and how her body has steel properties, so she often uses this to simply body-slam someone, or drop down onto them from a high place, quite literally throwing her weight around.
Drawbacks:
Electric vulnerability - Cahya's metal-like body, while not literally made of metal, does conduct electricity much better than normal human bodies do, this makes even moderate electric shocks extremely painful to her. Her regeneration does undo a lot of the burns and damage, but large shocks can incapacitate her through simply making her pass out from pain, or overloading her nervous system.
Weight - Cahya weighed a lot because of her metal-like body even before she trained incessantly to build up as much muscle mass as she has. While her weight does let her hit very hard and is involved in her fighting style, it can also work against her in situations where there is unstable terrain, or if she happens to be incapacitated and someone needs to move her somewhere.
Sinks like a... steel bar - Cahya can't swim. At all. She sinks to the bottom of any body of water due to her density and weight, and while her strength is immense, it is fundamentally not enough to swim with. When going to do hero work in aquatic areas she needs specific support gear to maneuver through the water, or at the very least an oxygen tank. Without special equipment the closest approximation of swimming she can do is literally jumping off the ground underwater like she would jump anywhere else and using her strength in the jump to propel herself upwards, ideally upwards out of the water entirely.
Fighting Style: Cahya is a straightforward brawler, she uses her immense physical prowess, mastery of martial arts, durability, and regenerative abilities to dive headfirst into the thick of combat and punch and kick the problems until they stop being problems. While she is technically capable of thinking of more nuanced and tactical approaches to situations... her default instinct and first resort in most situations is simply to brute force it, only stopping to think of other strategies if the situation obviously can't be solved by this from the outset, or she tries the brute force method and it fails.
