Place of Origin: Leeds, UK

Faction: The Bears Den
Appearance
Visual Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Alain stands out from the crowd, both because of his imposing physique, and his nature as a foreign expat in Japan. At 6'4" and nearly 250lbs, Alain bears the physique of a seasoned fighter; a tall, toned and muscular frame, built for combat. Despite his martial tendencies his skin is relatively unblemished, soft and fair, almost like fresh cream, save for a pair of large Lichtenberg figures; scars caused by lightning strikes hitting the human body. One wraps around his right arm, from his forearm up to his shoulder; the other starts on his left pectoral, and spreads down his abdomen. His quirk has the advantage of mitigating most of the potential scarring as a result of attacks that hit him. His snow white hair and steel grey eyes complete his intimidating visage.
Civilian Clothes: Alain's day to day clothing is surprisingly plain. The occasional designer brand is sported, but in general Alain isn't the kind of guy to wear gaudy or flashy clothes. Cool, muted colors are more his style; and a professional, "business casual" style is generally the way he likes to go.
Hero Outfit: Alain's hero outfit is surprisingly minimalist, especially compared to some of the flashier outfits of his fellow students. The core of his outfit consists of a black and white, reinforced kevlar polymer bodysuit, a pair of black cargo pants and matching black boots. Various belts and straps of his outfit are a matte, duck blue hue with a prominent gold buckle on the main belt. A blood red tassle charm hangs from his hip, the only striking contrast to his otherwise muted palette. Alain's hero costume carries a range of support systems and attachments, ranging from the kevlar polymer of his bodysuit, to the sophisticated gauntlets he wears. These gauntlets contain not only bulletproof titanium plates, but also a sophisticated monitoring system that detects the level of accumulated kinetic energy stored in his muscles. This live feedback readout allows Alain to strategize on the fly, both in offense and defense, if he comes in danger of overstepping his limit. This monitor system is paired with a sleek monocle eyepiece, a Heads Up Display that provides a live readout of his vitals and kinetic reserves. A newly designed dispenser system mounted to the cuff plates of his gauntlets allows Alain to load magazines full of different ammunition, which dispense directly into the palms of his hands; providing an instant, convenient source of ammunition for his 'Scattergun Burst' attack. He carries a small variety of magazines in a belt bandolier, filled with rubber riot bullets, smoke pellets and high strength pepper spray pellets; providing a number of different ranged options in combat.
Personality
Bad Habits:
Alain has a horrendous potty mouth when he gets angry, and is prone to trash talking during fights; a noted strategy to taunt his opponents, goading them into lashing out and fueling his powers.
Growing and maturing from his teenage years, Alain has become much more level headed. But being the obligate fighter he is, he has a tendency to put his fists first in tense situations. While tact and guile could get many altercations sorted, in his mind, the most efficient way to solve an altercation is through the throwing of hands... or at the very least, projecting an aura of inevitable hand throwing.
Goal: Part of Alain dreams of claiming one of the coveted Top 10 Hero spots, it's a natural dream for many young heroes fresh out of UA. But in his heart Alain desires to put his gifts, namely his immense strength and durability, towards protecting those who are weaker than him.
General Personality:
Alain flourished after graduating from UA, taking like a duck to water in a more professional environment. He's friendly and charismatic, chivalrous and kind... quite a gentleman to many. Despite his bullish physique he's surprisingly intelligent, with a sharp mind for science and maths; physics being his strongest subject, on account of the level of scientific knowledge he's attuned into the use of his quirk. He's a textbook gym rat, and religiously follows a master level workout regime and nutrition plan of his own design... he even helps out his friends with workouts of their own, such is his passion.
Alain is a sweet sap when in the presence of people he cares most about; his mother Linda, his pet cat Ajax. He's fiercely protective of the people closest to him, almost zealous in his duty. The quickest way to get into his black book is to target or threaten the people he loves most.
Personal Life
Mother: Linda Godfrey, The Rescue Hero: Infinity Girl, Quirk: Resilient. Linda's body naturally recovers from injuries, infections and poisons at phenomenal speeds. While it can't save her from death it can help her to withstand a world of punishment.
Father: Charlie 'Tank' Godfrey, deceased, Quirk: Bulldozer. Superhuman strength and nigh unbreakable skin makes for a dangerous fighter in any circumstance.
Siblings: None
Extended family: The fiery transformer hero Dragonlord (Sir Richard Bradley II), a mentor and father figure to Alain after the death of his father. His quirk Infernal Wing allows him to transform into a mighty golden dragon, and augment his human form with various dragonic features, each containing their own unique abilities.
History:
Growing up Alain didn't exactly have it all; born into a poorer suburb in Leeds, Alain was largely raised solely by his mother Linda, a registered EMT. Her quirk made her a vital member of her task force, allowing her to perform rescues from environments that would easily kill her coworkers. What little Alain saw of his father Charlie wasn't good. A prospective college amateur boxer turned quirk crazed, alcoholic thug; Charlie became a villain soon after dropping out of college, spending days out doing god knows what, only to come home drunk and beat his wife mercilessly. Thanks to her quirk Linda was able to withstand her husband's fury, which she took the burden of to protect her only son. In preschool Alain had been tested for quirk potential, and his marker was confirmed. But unlike his classmates he didn't show a quirk immediately. As a late bloomer he was often teased, the ridicule base at worst... but enough to bring out a fighting spirit in the boy. He was a scrapper like his father, and often got in trouble for beating the kids who teased him.
It wasn't until part way through middle school that Alain got the first taste of his quirk. One night during one of Charlie's alcohol fueled rages, Alain refused to sit idly by and watch his mother get tortured senselessly. He threw himself in the path of his father's oncoming fist, and took the blow head on. Rather than being launched clear out of the house like any other kid would, Alain barely skidded halfway across the room; winded slightly, but barely scratched given his father's super strength.
Instead, Alain felt like a switch had been flicked inside him. His skin prickled with energy, seeming to vibrate almost. Roaring tides of power thrummed within him like the tolling of a bell, skittering flecks of light danced across his growing muscles, and his normally steely grey eyes shone with a vicious electric blue glow. For the briefest moment silence filled the room. Charlie was stunned to see that his son was still standing after a the haymaker he'd thrown... Linda was shocked to see that her precious boy was still alive. Neither would be prepared for Alain to charge straight back into the fray with a roar, leaving splintered craters in the floorboards with each footstep as he decked Charlie in the jaw with a wild left hook, and unleashed his own barrage of violent power back at him, enough to launch the 250lb man through the front door and across the street. Both mother and son took this opportunity by the horns and fled into the night, with naught more than the money they carried and the clothes on their back... abandoning their home and the violent tyrant who ruled it.
For several years Linda and Alain bounced around temporary housing. Linda's paycheck as an EMT was somewhat meager, but the pair made do as best they could. During this time, Alain had befriended the head of Linda's taskforce, a kind and noble man named Richard, the fiery hero Dragonlord. He proved to be the man that Alain needed in his life; firm handed yet kind, and wise seemingly beyond his years. They heard little to nothing about Charlie, surprised that he hadn't hunted them down... only to find out eventually the source of his disappearances, both in the past and currently. Charlie had run in with a gang of villains, the money was great... illegal, but great. It had given him an outlet for his rage. But not without cost. The enemies he'd made with rival gangs had caught up with him... given him concrete shoes and a watery funeral at the bottom of the Thames... the only real way to kill a man who basically can't be injured. Neither Linda or Alain mourned his passing.
It was through Dragonlord's connections in the hero circuit that a new life was arranged for both Linda and Alain. Their doldrum life in Leeds was replaced with a new home in Tokyo, halfway across the world. Alain's new quirk and Dragonlord's personal recommendation gained him an enrolment at UA Highschool, one of the most prestigious hero academies in the world. Linda was transferred to a search and rescue taskforce in the same precinct, allowing them to live together. The trauma of his childhood and his newfound lease of life instilled Alain with a newfound purpose. His quirk was a gift, one given to him as a sword and a shield, to protect the innocent and strike down those who would inflict harm on others. He wouldn't become a monster like his father.
Season 1
[spoil]
The beginning of his first year at UA Academy was a firestorm of activity for Alain. Naturally, he took to his hero classes like a duck to water, quickly making a mark for himself as one of the strongest students in his year... even going so far as to impress some of his upperclassmen in the process.
The Glass Cage Incident:
Alain's first encounter with a real villain came about frightfully early in the year, when members of the villain group Team Confidence breeched UA's defenses to target and kidnap the 2nd year student Shinja Saiyo. By sheer luck Alain happened to be close by and intervened; unable to save Shinja in time, but aiding his teacher Thunderclap in apprehending two of the villains. Because of his intervention and assistance, Alain was brought to a government facility in Hosu dubbed the Glass Cage; a high tech police compound for securing and interrogating villains. He and Thunderclap were debriefed on the matter, and were being questioned when Team Confidence popped up once again, attempting to break their comrades out of police custody. Foolishly, they brought their captive Shinja along with them; and in the ensuing battle Alain helped her escape their villainous grip. A violent exchange demolished part of the facility, and in the process some of the villains escaped. With Alain's help new ones were captured though, leaving them with a very mixed victory in the end.
The UA Sports Festival:
During the annual Sports Festival Alain stunned the crowds with his power, Outclassing many of his classmates by a country mile. Many of the pro heroes and agency reps that attended pegged him to be a surefire winner of the iconic obstacle course race... none were expecting him to showcase his heroic spirit, and sacrifice his shot at gold to save a fellow classmate in the middle of the race. Even still, he managed to recover beautifully and walk away with bronze regardless of the setback he willingly took. Luck of the draw saw Alain shuffled into the advanced bracket of the sports festival tournament, starting him off at an advanced placement compared to his other classmates. He wowed the crowds in his match against Gwen Luna, taking down the sprightly mothgirl with terrifying efficiency. His second match against Emily Kramer was a surefire win. Emily was a strong fighter, skilled with her battleaxe and had the strongest defensive power of the class. But paired against Alain's dominating martial quirk and combat prowess she didn't have a hope. Alain met his match in the final bout against his classmate Ryoken Shidou, Alain's friend and rival, and one of the few that Alain considers a true equal in power among their year. Against a talented battlefield controller like Ryoken Alain never had a chance to charge his quirk, and was captured with grace and swiftness in one of Ryoken's diamond prisons. Regardless of the loss of the final round, Alain had made a true name for himself. He was smart, heroic, selfless and incredibly powerful for his age. The year had barely started and connections were already being made with high ranking heroes and their agencies across the country, clamoring to smother him in future offers.
Run ins with villains and other miscellaneous heroics:
Over the course of the year Alain encountered several villains in his day to day life, prime opportunities to gain valuable experience, having earned his provisional hero license earlier in the year. On a trip to the beach with some of his friends, a group of them decided to explore a cave along the beach. There they encountered a mysterious water woman in a subterranean hot pool, cursed to live in isolation because of her out of control quirk. They also ran into a solitary villain by the name of Gem, a chaotic young woman with a powerful mimicry quirk. Alain's friend Gwen was stabbed in the ensuing battle, injured severely by Gem's violent attack. Working together with his friend Ryoken, Alain managed to create an opening for the group to escape, whereupon Alain used his quirk to carry Gwen to the hospital in Musutafu, running at super speeds... at his own expense by the end of it. Thanks to his bravery and quick thinking he managed to save Gwen's life before she bled out.
Alain's internship:
A classic part of a UA student's curriculum; workplace internships are a way for students to gain real world experience, working at a real agency and undertaking light missions under the tutelage of a pro hero. After his valiant efforts in the sports festival Alain had been swamped by offers from numerous hero agencies; all wanting to have the chance to secure a young, handsome, powerful prospective hero. Alain had the pick of the litter, even several top 10 pros chimed in. But Alain ended up choosing to intern at the Bear's Den, an agency that doubled as an orphanage, ran by the #15 pro at the time, Cahya Shenden... aka Momma Bear. While not as flashy as a top 10 position, this agency was state of the art, providing protective services, as well as several branches across the country for housing and educating children left orphaned by natural disasters and villain attacks. Alain believed that interning here would provide him with a wide variety of work experience; giving him the opportunity to shadow Momma Bear in the field, and also do charity work with the orphans at the main branch in Musutafu.[/spoil]

Quirk
Name: Recoil
Quirk Type: Emitter
Power: Recoil allows the quirk user to absorb the kinetic energy from physical blows into their muscles, and store that energy within them. That same energy can then be used to augment their physical abilities, increasing their physical speed and strength the more damage they're subjected to. In a nutshell... the harder you get hit, the stronger you become. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" takes on a while new meaning!
Supermoves:
Thunderwave: Alain focuses a charge of kinetic energy into the muscles into his arms and shoulders, before clapping his hands together in the direction of his chosen target. This creates a pressure wave capable of shattering concrete and denting steel plate. The effective range of this technique is only around 30ft, due to the quick dissipation of energy. But the destructive power within this range scales dramatically depending on Alain's proximity to his target, with a point blank attack carrying the same destructive power as most plastic explosives.
Scattergun Burst: While his Recoil boost is active, Alain fills his hands with any number of small objects (either dispensed ammunition from his gauntlets mags, or found ammunition) and throws these projectiles at his foes at supersonic speeds. He either throws these in a wide arc to hit multiple foes, or a focused cluster for increased damage.
Palm Railgun: This move functions identically to Scattergun Burst, but utilizes a single, heavier projectile instead of several smaller ones. This sacrifices the wide area of effect in favor of high armor penetration and massive destructive potential. It's most effective when used with spherical or spear-like objects, as they're the easiest to throw with optimal accuracy.
Gatling Barrage: Fueling his body with superhuman speed, Alain unleashes a thunderous flurry of blows against his target, battering them with the speed of a machine gun, hundreds, or even thousands of times per second, depending on how much energy he invests into the attack. The faster his flurry is unleashed, the shorter the duration, as his energy reserves are depleted faster.
Dynamite Haymaker: Pulling all his power into a single mighty, destructive blow, Alain unleashes explosive hell on his foe by striking them with a single hit, powered up with the kinetic force of a bomb shockwave behind it. The more energy he invests, the greater the kinetic boost.
Blitz Bullrush: Alain charges up his whole body, ramping up his speed to a flashy, blurring sprint, and throws his whole body into a destructive shoulder barge, plowing head first into his target. Especially large enemies, or even buildings can be knocked down; smaller enemies get completely launched by the force of the strike. The speeds needed to attain this destructive power severely sacrifice Alain's maneuverability as he's forced to move in a straight line to maintain his momentum.
Drawbacks: Recoil's damage absorption is far from perfect. Firstly, maintaining Recoil is a bit of a balancing act. Taking damage from enemy attacks builds up Alain's energy reserves, but augmenting his body rapidly drains that energy pool. At best he can maintain consistent bursts of power for a few minutes at a time before needing to refuel. His supermoves are far more draining than his ambient boost however, at most Alain can fire off three or four in quick succession before they drain whatever stored energy he has on hand. There's also limit to how much kinetic energy Alain can absorb. Approaching this energy limit causes him intense pain, and passing this theoretical ceiling without training has even more serious side effects. Too much kinetic energy absorbed at once, or held in his muscles can literally tear them apart. Plus, Recoil is limited to physical impacts only; melee weapons, firearms... anything that can impart kinetic energy into his body can trigger Recoil's abilities. But energy based emitter quirks can bypass this ability all together. Outside the heat of battle this stored pool of energy dissipates in seconds, making it impossible for him to maintain a long term store of power for emergencies. Over his training Alain has learned how to draw kinetic energy from himself, removing the need to solely rely on enemy attacks to fuel his quirk. He can siphon a portion of kinetic energy from his own movements to fuel his reserves, though this process is only about half as effective as his primary means of absorption.
Fighting Style: Due to the specific requirements of his quirk Recoil, Alain fights almost solely in close quarters. Any opportunity to get up close and personal with his opponent and maximize the chance of building a kinetic pool to weaponize is taken in a fight. He is a mixed style brawler, having learned much under the tutelage of the heroes at his internship. He's primarily a striker, utilizing his immense strength and agility to hammer his opponent with devastating blows. But he's also well versed in grappling and disarming techniques, which prove invaluable when incapacitating a villain is more important than outright beating one into a bloody mess.
