Powers/Abilities
Fear Attunement
Sinestro understands the innate fear within others, and can easily discern when others are fearful or otherwise being affected by said fear. This is a natural skill of Sinestro’s, and can be accomplished without the power of his ring. He also has a mental link to other bearers of Qwardian Power Rings, likely tied into his mastery over fear.
Indomitable Will
According the Ion, the living embodiment of willpower itself, Sinestro has the most single indomitable will of creation. It is simply impossible to mentally subdue or manipulate him into doing something that he would not do of his own accord.
Leadership
Though his methods grew increasingly unjust and cruel in the later stages of his career as a Green Lantern, Sinestro has more than proven his capacity for leadership, and the ability to will others to follow him. Though these methods are dominated by fear tactics and willful domination as of late, they are just as effective as his previous methods, if not more so.
Genius
Sinestro is extremely intelligent, well-studied and versed in a wide array of sciences, tactics, and even some forms of visual and literary art from his many experiences. Though he is not studied like a university graduate, his intellect has accumulated a great wealth of knowledge and understanding from his long years with the Green Lantern Corps. Understanding extremely complicated formulas, mathematics, physics, and similar fields is of little consequence to Sinestro, though he is by no means on the level of Ted Kord or Victor von Doom.
Green Lantern Training
In his time with the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro became familiar with the tenets of the paramilitary group, its protocols and its modus operandi. This also included learning of the Yellow Impurity inherent within all Green Lantern rings, and the increasing incompetence of the Guardians of the Universe in how they led the Corps, among other weaknesses that Sinestro discovered, and eventually sought to exploit in the interest of his brand of justice. Sinestro has also become a skilled combatant without having to rely on his ring, though of course how to innovatively use his ring to resolve any number of situations with the power of his imagination and will.

“In blackest Day, In brightest Night,
Beware you Fear made into Light,
Let those who try to stop what's Right
Burn like his Power!
Sinestro's Might!”

Qwardian Power Battery
A lesser version of the Central Power Battery located on Qward, small enough to be kept on one’s person. Can be used to recharge Qwardian Power Rings every twenty-four hours, or as needed, whichever is sooner. Remotely powered by the Qwardian Central Power Battery, it will take much longer to run out of power, at which point they must be returned to their Central Power Battery to be recharged.
Qwardian Power Ring
A Power Ring that draws energy from the emotional energy of fear, manifesting in the form of yellow hardlight constructs. The first of its kind, Sinestro’s ring was forged by the Weaponers of Qward in the forsaken Anti-Matter Universe, designed to take advantage of the YEllow Impurity within Oan Green Lantern Power Rings. Qwardian Power Rings are considered to be among the most powerful weapons in the known universe, and for good reason. Not only can they project near-limitless variations
Yellow Energy Conduit
Qwardian rings use yellow energy, supplied by a Qwardian Power Battery, which in most cases takes the form of yellow light. Yellow Power rings, considered by some to be one of the most powerful weapons in the known universe, has the ability to affect and use fundamental forces of the known universe, including electromagnetic energies such as gravity, radiation, heat, light, and powerful blasts of concussive force. It is also theorized that the ring also has a basis in other dimensional energies commonly called magic by users of such energies. The ring can also create fields of force formed from an unknown energy that was bound by the users' will. The limitations of such use are the skill, knowledge and imagination of the user.
Energy Blasts
The ring can be used to fire blasts of yellow energy or create weapons such as projectiles of them. The ring can project beams of force powered by the will of the user. The weapon’s power is more an indication of the will of the user; in Sinestro’s case, he is among the most powerful Lanterns in the universe on his will alone.
Force-Field Generation
The ring can create various force-fields of various sizes and shapes to protect the wearer and others around him. With the cosmic scope of a Sinestro Corpsman's duties, it is only natural that the power ring is designed for operation in space. The ring creates a force-field around the wearer, protecting him/her/it from the hazards of the void including filtration of stellar radiation and microscopic particulate matter which would ordinarily be fatal should the space debris strike the ring wielder at high speeds. An atmosphere appropriate to the ring wielder's biology is created inside the force-field, body temperature is maintained and waste products are removed. Gravitational stresses which could cause injury are stabilized for the ring wielder. Theoretically, a ring wielder could use the ring as his/her/its sole source of life support. The force-field seems to be created instantaneously, whether this is due to programming or an instinctive reaction from intensive training has not been established. It could be considered as a subroutine of the ring's automatic defensive system, but as of yet, this theory has not been proven.
Energy Constructs
The ring can form constructs of yellow energy. The primary function of the Power Ring is to provide a weapon capable of transforming the wearer's thoughts into physical constructs through the wearer's mastery of Fear. A Sinestro Corpsman can create any particular items or construct that they can imagine as long as they have the mastery of fear necessary to will it into existence. The constructs are made out of yellow energy, which is a tangible form of pure fear, and they exist only as long as a Sinesteo Corpsman is fueling it with their mastery of fear. Items created by the rings are not indestructible and are only as powerful as the inspired fear of the Sinestro Corpsman creating them. The types of constructs usually reflects the ring wearer's personality.
Instill Fear
The Power Ring is unique in that its base of power, fear, can be manipulated by the ring user. An opponent's fears can be laid bare by delving into their minds. The power only works on the direct emotion of fear. This allows them to create the energy constructs of a opponent's worst nightmare. Also, once that fear is exposed, the ring's ability allows the wielder to amplify the fear to the point of irrationality and true horror on the part of victim and conversely empowering the ring wielder.
Phasing
The Power Ring allows the wearer to pass through certain solid objects, such as walls. Which objects that are not penetrable are not known, but it may depend upon the strength of the wearer's mastery of fear and the density of the object's molecular structure.
Kryptonian Charging
Similar to how the light of a Green Power Ring can be used to create artificial Kryptonite energy to harm a Kryptonian, the yellow energy from a Yellow Power Ring can charge the powers of a Kryptonian or Daxamite.
Environmental Playback
Upon request, the power ring can recreate a holographic environment based on data in its memory banks. The ring wielder can observe events in a ghostlike state, but the ring wielder cannot alter the outcome of the playback. All objects in the playback will appear in the full spectrum of colors, regardless of the wielder's level of expertise creating simulacrums. The power ring will automatically end the playback if outside interference warrants the ring wielder's undivided attention.
Invisibility & Light Refraction
A ring wielder can render him/her/itself invisible by willing the ring to bend light waves around his/her/its form, as well as that of the power ring. Presumably, a similar action allows an experienced ring wielder to create objects of colors other than yellow. A master of power rings, Sinestro is capable of creating illusions of people and objects. It can be assumed the ring wielder would not risk the extra time and effort to create other colors in a combat situation.
Energy Twin
The power ring allows the wearer to create an "energy twin" of his/her/itself that can travel at far greater speeds than that of the ring wielder's physical form. While the energy twin is active the ring wielder remains motionless, his/her/its life force is needed to guide the energy twin. The energy twin can not alter its surroundings, and may only be perceived by another ring wielder as a yellow, ghostlike image. Any knowledge gained by the energy twin is transferred back to the ring wielder's physical form upon re-contact with the body.
Energy Absorption
The ring can absorb and store most other energies. Unlike the Green Lantern power rings, a yellow power ring can replenish the normal store of energy the ring has. A ring that needs recharging, but contained a store of electricity could only discharge that electricity, for example.
Flight
By the manipulation of anti-gravitons and directed molecular movement, the ring allows the user to fly at incredible speeds. In atmosphere, a Sinestro Corpsmen has been known to fly as fast as Mach 10 in atmosphere by creating an aerodynamic envelope around his body. Towing others, usually within a bubble, his speed is limited to the twice the speed of sound or 1440 mph. In space, a Sinestro Corpsman's speed can be significantly greater and has been known to approach 80% of lightspeed in normal space. Flight is possible at velocities exceeding light speed. In atmospheres, air friction is not a hindrance, since heat is either absorbed or reflected by the ring's field.
Wormholes & Spacial Warps
The power ring grants its wearer access to wormholes in space, enabling the ring wielder to rapidly cut time and distance needed for transport. Sinestro is capable of safely navigating black holes.
Time Travel
Time travel is possible with the power ring, though the further forward in time a ring wielder travels, the more mastery of fear it takes.
Limited Cellular Regeneration
This ring has a limited ability to heal physical injuries. A Sinestro Corpsman can use the ring to repair minor injuries in himself or others.
Electromagnetic Scanning
The ring has a wide range of detection abilities based on the imagination of the user. If one can conceive of it, he can probably detect it. Magical effects, such as clairvoyance, seem to be beyond the scope of the ring. Most normal electromagnetic phenomena are within the range of the ring however, including radio, television, infrared, ultraviolet, and high frequency band communications.
Universal Translator
Keeping in mind the myriad of worlds, life forms, and cultures throughout the cosmos, it is understandable why Sinestro added a translation system to the power ring. The power ring can translate virtually any language in the universe, facilitating diplomatic encounters rather than violent confrontations.
Material Alteration
The Sinestro Corpsman's uniform is not made out of fabric. It is created by the Power Ring whenever the wearer wills to wear it. It automatically appears over the wearer's normal clothing, and vanishes when the wearer wills to return to their civilian attire. Most Sinestro Corpsmen wear similar uniforms that are programmed into the ring by default. However, each Sinestro Corpsman is able to adjust their uniform to fit their own needs, personalities and whims. The yellow parts of the wearer's uniform are usually very warm or hot to those who touch it, while the black parts are very cold.
Ring Duplication
Most Power Rings are capable of automatically duplicating themselves. Each duplicate typically shares the qualities and capabilities of the original ring. While the thought of an unauthorized person getting a hold of a power ring and making duplicates for nefarious purposes, their ability to inflict damage is limited because each duplicate still requires to be recharged by a personal power battery.
Emergency Beacon
A Sinestro Corpsman in distress can use their power ring as an emergency beacon. The alert can be directed to a Sinestro Corpsman's neighboring sector, or it can be a Corps-wide alert.
Homing Beacon
A homing beacon in the power ring can lead one Sinestro Corpsman to another. The power ring can be ordered to disguise itself to elude power ring wielding trackers. Most often ring wielders will allow the beacon to signal their location to others.
Mind Alteration
As the power ring relies on thought and will to operate, mind tampering is not impossible, the real difficulty lies in properly applying the power. There lies a risk of catastrophic damage to the mind should mistakes be made. A ring wielder can use the power ring to erase portions of an individual's memories. Sinestro Corpsmen have used mind techniques as part of training. Naturally, Sinestro himself is incredibly skilled in these techniques, as well as how to resist them. The power ring can also be used to beam information from the ring wielder to another being. Sinestro Corpsmen have used this technique to share information regarding their enemies during combat situations.
Security Protocol
All Qwardian Power Rings are programmed so as to become unusable in the case that they are stolen, and severely harm or kill anyone who attempts to use them that is not the designated bearer.
Preset Conditions
Commands can be stored in the ring to be executed at a later date, even if the bearer is not wearing the ring.
Recharge Protocol
Like the other Power Rings of the universe, Qwardian Rings must be recharged once every twenty-four hours within a Power Battery of its respective color in order to continue functioning, regardless of how often it was used in the previous cycle. Power Rings, including those of Qward, can deplete themselves of energy before they have to be recharged, however.
Hope Weakness
Like the other Power Rings powered by the negative scale of the emotional spectrum, the transmission and power of Qwardian Rings can be greatly disrupted by the power of a Blue Lantern Ring.
Appearance
Visual Appearance
Physical Appearance
Sinestro is a Korugaran, with magenta-pigmented skin and pointed ears much like an elf. He is exceptionally tall, with an impressive physique that can be admired irrespective of the power vested in his ring. His hair is jet-black, styled in a rather sinister, close-cut fashion, with a highly distinct widow’s peak. Even more signature is his finely groomed mustache that accentuates his facial features, and sneers just as well as his eyes. His eyes are hauntingly yellow, especially since he embraced the element of fear as his power to wield.
Clothing and Armor
Sinestro’s casual attire is elegant Korugaran garb, a black tunic and slacks with dark-purple highlights along the collar, sleeves and ankles. It represents Sinestro’s former nobility and the respect he once held among his people before becoming a would-be tyrant and intergalactic miscreant. Nowadays, it is far more common for Sinestro to be seen (though he has yet to make his official return) in the bright yellow and gold of a Yellow Lantern of Qward, and the very first at that. It is similar to the hardlight-armor of a Green Lantern in many aspects, the most distinct differences being of course the color for which Green Lanterns fear, and the symbol emblazoned on the chest of the uniform that is the symbol of the Sinestro Corps, sworn enemies of the Green Lanterns and anyone else who would defy their master’s supreme order.
“Nothing frightens me. I am fear.”

General Personality
Sinestro would never paint himself as an unjust man, or an evil one for that matter. He holds the law above all else, and would see that order is upheld. What separates him from the Green Lantern Corps and their mission is the lengths to which he is willing to go to see it done. Sinestro holds himself by little morals, especially when it comes to punishing criminals and those found guilty under the law, something that he has taken into his own hands. Sinestro ruthlessly subjugated the people of Korugar to insure that his sector was entirely free of crime, and likely massacred criminals and even potential criminals to make sure of this. It stands to reason that he would do it all again, and more, to insure that the universe was freed of evil that the Guardians of Oa are clearly incapable of stopping. Sinestro spits upon the Green Lantern Corps and everything that they stand for, having been their greatest, and believes that he has outgrown their incompetent peacekeeping organization. Sinestro only respects those that can see the universe as he sees it, a repulsive cesspool of corruption and decadence that can only be met with certain annihilation if it is to become a better, orderly society. Sinestro especially despises Hal Jordan, the upstart Lantern responsible for seeing him exiled, and his last pupil that he had once seen purpose in. Out of all the Green Lanterns, Sinestro means to make Jordan suffer the most.
Fears
Being an individual who was not only the most fearless of the Green Lanterns, but came to use it as a weapon against others, Sinestro is without fear or despair.
Ruthless
Even when he was a Green Lantern, Sinestro seemed to care little for the moral consequences of his methods, despite how successful or effective they were compared to any other member of the Corps. He had no regard for the life of criminals, and saw fit to treat them as subhuman. As a Yellow Lantern, Sinestro is even crueler than before, hell-bent on destroying everything the Green Lantern Corps has built from the ground-up, and building it anew, with him as judge, jury, and executioner.

History
Thaal Sinestro was an honorable and beloved noble of Korugar, and an esteemed warrior. It was not long before he garnered the attention of the Guardians of the Universe. Impressed with his moral character and dedication to virtue and justice on Korugar, Ganthet hand-picked him to become the Green Lantern of Sector 1417. He was partnered with Abin Sur, the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, the two of whom developed a deep bond with one another, to the extent that the two of them considered themselves brothers. Both of them went on to mentor many rookie Green Lanterns, among which would eventually be Hal Jordan, Abin Sur’s successor as well as Sinestro’s final pupil.
Sinestro quickly rose through the ranks of the Corps, developing an astounding reputation of making his Sector completely crime-free. He eventually fell in love with Abin Sur’s sister, Arin Sur, and earned his friend’s blessing in the matrimony that followed. Abin Sur later approached Sinestro with the tidings of a dire prophecy referring to something known as Blackest Night. However, Sinestro dismissed these claims, passing them off as Abin Sur’s naivety at the words of the Five Inversions, known maniacs and intergalactic criminals that could not be trusted. In the following months, Abin Sur was murdered by Atrocitus, much to Sinestro’s grief. Assisted by Abin Sur’s successor, Hal Jordan, Sinestro brought Atrocitus to justice. As he was incarcerated, Atrocitus taunted Sinestro with the same prophecy, implying that it would also lead to his inevitable fall from grace at the hands of the Green Lantern Corps.
Shaken by this turn of events, Sinestro coped by tightening his hold on his sector, becoming increasingly authoritarian to insure that he maintained his system of perfect order. He became more and more unpopular with his fellow Korugarans, and it was not long before his family began to be threatened. Though Sinestro was not moved by these gestures, Arin Sur feared for their daughter’s life. She managed to spirit their dear Soranik Natu away from this turmoil, though her efforts were discovered by her husband after the fact. When an outraged Sinestro confronted his wife about what he viewed as a cruel betrayal, she died from shock. Hal Jordan, who had heard many unseemly rumors about Sinestro’s activities, had followed his mentor home, and stumbled upon his marital incident. Though Sinestro’s reputation among the Corps was nigh legendary, the testimony of the upstart Jordan, and the rest of his people that had been kept quiet under his oppression, sealed the Korugaran’s fate, and he was to be banished to the Anti-Matter Universe. With his last words Sinestro cursed Hal Jordan and swore to destroy him.
Though Sinestro was thrust onto the planet Qward within the Anti-Matter Universe, he was far too willful to accept his fate, too driven by his hatred for the Green Lantern Corps, the Guardians of the Universe, and Hal Jordan most of all to simply lie down and accept his punishments. He struck an accord with the Qwardians, master smiths to rival the Guardians themselves: they developed an experimental Power Ring, and a Central Power Battery to match it. Sinestro’s ring would feed upon the fear inherent in all living things, save himself of all course, so devoid of the fear that he would bring out in others. He had mastered fear long ago, and when he returned to Oa, nay, the universe at large, he would show them the true meaning of fear, and its power to bring order and peace to chaos and decadence.
Roleplay Sample
Home, the home he had known before, was different. It was a green world, lush, more full of life than anything that Earth had known for hundreds of thousands of years. The people there flourished. They likely still flourished. Not here. Here, the sky was a swath of dark and murky color, streaks of red and black staining what can escape the looming clouds that challenged to dwarf celestial bodies. There was no water to be found here. That time passed millennia before he had found his way here. In the far distance was a city, or what remained of one, of a civilization never known by man, or any mortal being for that matter. Their immediate landscape were treacherous, craggy plains, unfit for whatever that dared to live here. Numerous rivers of white-hot energy seeping from the cracks in the ground, hotter even than lava escaped to the surface. Though these pockets did not yet threaten to burst forth, one did not have to imagine what might happen should one fall in. Many already had.
At the nadir of this valley was he, a tall, well-built humanoid figure with bright magenta skin. His hair was styled in a disciplined fashion, with a fierce widow's peak that bordered on the absurd. Nearly as garish was his glowing, yellow uniform clinging to his body. He had his right arm raised, upon which was a similarly glowing ring. From this ring was a projection of a lithe, sagely woman, whose skin was covered in symbols completely unreadable to anyone who was not familiar with that lost culture. Due to being a projection, her form was completely yellow, making it unclear what her true physical features were. Her eyes were on this stranger in the flesh, though she behold him as a man of power... a leader. It was only fair. He was Thaal Sinestro, the legendary Green Lantern.
"...No more. No more, Lyssa." Sinestro clenched his fist, raising it slowly. He was not an expressive man. Here, he was smiling. "I have waited years for this. And they have been waiting even longer. Much longer. We have waited long enough."
Lyssa Drak smiled, ruefully so. This was the man she had come to know, to respect, to follow. It was a rare will that transcended that order of fools, rarer still one that thrived as Sinestro had, locked away in this reality prison. And Thaal Sinestro knew it, too. He knew this more than anyone, least of all the ones who had put him in here.
Sinestro let out a deep breath. Though his smile was beginning to fade, the pride about the Korugaran did not leave him. It never had. "Send word to the others. It is time the universe experienced the dawn of fear."
