Appearance: Zobeen Garbann stands 175cm (~5'9") with a thick, stocky build, with the utilitarian musculature of a man who's lived a life of tough manual labor. He has a medium-black complexion, dark brown eyes, and black, curly hair that shows a bit of a premature receding hairline. His remaining hair is somewhat close-cropped. He also sports a thick, curly black beard. His nose is wide and blunt, and his eyes are deep-set and somewhat large, giving him a slightly wild-eyed look at times, and a tired gaze at other times.
Despite being 30 years old, Zobeen is often mistaken for someone much older due to his craggy facial features, rough skin, and gravelly, baritone voice. He also tends to have an unkempt look to him, be it in his posture, how he wears his clothes or uniform, how he grooms his beard, or so on. Sometimes his hands start trembling and he can't stop them.
Personality: Off the battlefield, Zobeen is a brash, obscene, loudmouth who tells boastful stories of questionable veracity and often tries to provoke others who seem too tightly-wound to him. He tends to be lewd toward attractive women, though he keeps this behavior in check around women who serve with him directly on the battlefield (esp. other pilots). He often gives unsolicited opinions, often his pragmatic and cynical views on unfolding political events, or on his comrades' behaviors, etc.
He's more of a cold operator on the battlefield, treating sorties like work to get through. He is thoroughly calloused and pitiless about death on the battlefield, of both foe and friend alike, and highly methodical in his approach.
History: Born into grinding poverty on Side 3's Colony 10 "Dooparalamoore", Zobeen Garbann fell into a life of petty crime and street thuggery at a young age. Fed up with having no future, he left his broken home by the time he turned 15. He spent a few years drifting around the Earth sphere, doing odd jobs and manual labor to get by. These several years of drifting took him to several colonial Sides, a couple Lunar cities, and some places on Earth. Thanks to a lack of consistent record-keeping and only vague (and sometimes inconsistent) accounts from Zobeen himself, this chapter of his life is not well documented, and it's not always clear where he was and what he was doing at any given time.
Sometime in UC 0075, however, Zobeen returned to Side 3 and did his military service. The reasons he gives for this are vague. Thanks to his experience with mobile workers and petite MS during his wandering years, Zobeen was earmarked for mobile suit training.
When the One Year War broke out, Zobeen participated in colony-gassing operations in Side 1, then later was reassigned to reconaissance work. He was critically wounded in March while covering an Earthside drop operation and medically discharged while recuperating in a military hospital in the Zeon homeland. He recovered, however, and was picked up by Kycilia Zabi's Mobile Assault Force in July. He operated in recon missions out of Granada from then until the Battle of A Baoa Qu, in which he participated and was captured after his Rick Dom was shot down.
Zobeen was released from an EFF military prison in late 0080 and opted not to return to Side 3, instead resuming his previous life of drifting about the Earth Sphere. He was in the Lunar city of Granada in 0083 when an undercover scout for Axis discovered him. Zobeen took the guy's offer to get with the Advance Fleet as they withdrew from the Earth Sphere and returned to the asteroid base. During the journey back, Zobeen learned about Haman Karn and was converted into a loyal follower of Zeon's steward.
On Axis itself, Zobeen's crude and lewd behavior was met with mixed reactions. His uneducated, poor background, vagrant past, and disheveled look were offensive to many, but his experience and skill were enough to keep him around, and his loyalty to Haman was considered unquestionable. He was considered useless as an instructor to pilot cadets, but he was valuable as a test pilot for dangerous mobile weapons. He was also frequently called upon to pilot aggressor units for live training exercises.
Due to his recon work during the war, Zobeen was assigned to the 1st Advance Recon Fleet upon its formation. He is now stationed aboard the Musai Kai-class cruiser Dresden, which acts in a support and scouting capacity for the Endra-class Zandra, in a souped-up Zaku II.
