Name: Abdel Khader Ali
Age: 25 (b. February 11th, UC 0062)
Gender: dude
Birthplace: Londenion, Side 1 (Zahn), Earth Federation
Faction: Anti Earth Union Group
Rank: Ensign
Appearance: Abdel Khader Ali stands 170cm (~5"7") with a solid build forged in his collegiate wrestling days, albeit with a slight paunch. Although muscular, it is an untoned, heavyset muscle that others often misjudge at first for pudginess.
He has a light brown skin tone and short, black hair he usually keeps scrupulously combed. His brown eyes appear smallish due to his round cheeks and slightly largish nose, but they nonetheless have a certain friendly twinkle to them. He has a thick, but well-groomed, mustache that nearly covers his entire upper lip. His looks tends to be jovial, although at times he can bear a pensive countenance.
Abdel speaks with a low tenor voice and has a very animated way of speaking and carrying himself, often with very lively hand gestures.
Personality: Abdel is an affable, agreeable man who likes to bring up the mood among his peers. He is also a very hard worker, tirelessly carrying out his tasks and encouraging and assisting others in doing theirs.
Due to his usually congenial personality, he is often misjudged as a fool or a non-soldier. His peers are often surprised when they find he has a more fiery side, of passionate conviction for AEUG's cause and the struggle against the Titans. He can express his belief in AEUG's righteousness in terms that are at times semi-poetic, at times borderline religious. This generally erases all doubts that someone as seemingly "soft" as Abdel could be a combat pilot for a rebel army.
Abdel is also rather religious, allotting as much time for religious devotion as he can without interfering with his soldierly duties.
In combat, Abdel is brave and unflinching, but not a glory hound and not reckless. He excels at mid-range combat and is a team player. He usually focuses on backing up and covering more aggressive teammates.
History: Abdel Khader Ali was born on Londenion to a middle-class family of Indian Muslims. His father, a doctor, raised Abdel and his siblings under a strict regimen of constant study "for the best life" as doctors, lawyers, etc.
Abdel excelled in his studies, but he had something of a political and religious awakening in his early teens: against his father's wishes, he became passionate about the tumultuous political landscape of the colonies during the 0070s, about Contolism, about colonial autonomy and independence, etc. Abdel, young and passionate, but naive and impressionable, expressed admiration for the fledgeling Principality of Zeon. He also started spending much time with his aging grandfather, learning more about the theological underpinnings of his family's religion from the more idealistic elder. It was from his grandfather than Abdel developed his gentle and kindhearted demeanor when dealing with others.
Abdel's admiration for Zeon shattered when the opening days of the One Year War exposed Zeon's brutality. He wanted to go off and join the EFSF, or even a guerrilla group, to fight them, but his father successfully prevented the young teen from leaving school. Abdel's interest in one day becoming a soldier was nonetheless awakened, leading him to join EFSF officer's school after graduation, against his father's wishes. The Delaz Conflict broke out while Abdel was in officer's school, resolving him to join the newly-formed Titans as soon as possible to fight Zeon himself.
However, it was never to be. Abdel was rejected from the Titans and became a pilot with EFSF regulars at Konpeitoh. There, garrisoned alongside Titans personnel, he saw that the so-called "elites" of the Earth were really just bullies, ladder-climbers, and Earthnoid supremacists. He heard through the grapevine that Titans brutality wasn't limited to their EFSF peers, however, and learned that colonial civilians lived in fear of Titans soldiers and their violence. Abdel's strong sense of morality and justice brought him to a breaking point: he couldn't fight alongside the Titans any longer, even if he wasn't one of their number. After months of talking with peers who were in the know, soul-searching, prayer, and fruitlessly appealing to superior officers, Abdel decided he had to defect to the AEUG in early 0087.
Thanks to connections with old officer's school mates, Abdel was able to get in and, while on leave, he slipped away to Amman where he had connections with an AEUG insider. While Abdel was being vetted along with some other newcomers, he learned about the massacre at Colony 30, erasing any remaining doubts that Abdel had about defecting. During this time, the battle at Amman broke out. Abdel did not hesitate to volunteer his help and deployed in a junior mobile, risking his life against the Titans he had long ago wanted to join.
He was commended for his actions in the defense of Amman, but he still had to undergo vetting and some paperwork before he was officially assigned to a unit.
