Name: Ha-yeon Mok (목하연)
Age/Date of Birth: 24 | February 11th, UC 0063
Gender: ♀
Place of Birth: Gwangju, Korea, Earth Federation
Faction: Titans
Rank: Ensign
Appearance:
Ha-yeon stands 167cm (~5'6") with a slender, but athletic, build. She has very fair light skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair that extends just past her shoulders which she usually keeps tied in a high ponytail. She has a small nose and thin lips, and her sharp narrow eyes contrast with her otherwise gentle facial features. She is not very expressive through her face and so can be mistaken for a cold or humorless person.
Personality: Ha-yeon takes her work seriously and has a certain pride in doing it well. She usually has a serious demeanor, but by no means does she take this to extremes (ie. she isn't robotic, severe, hard-nosed, excessively straight-laced etc). She has a habit of endlessly analyzing past actions and future probabilities. She is detail-oriented and makes a point of being well-prepared, but she is prone to a workaholic habit.
Although very mindful of her place among superiors and seniors, among peers Ha-yeon is more willing to show some humor and levity. Her experiences during the One Year War make her willing to bend or break some small rules when she thinks it necessary. She is somewhat distrustful of Spacenoids, especially those from Side 3, but she has no trouble being civil in their presence. She is usually trusting of teammates and colleagues.
La Historia: Born into a lower middle-class family in Korea, Ha-yeon Mok's early life was marked by aimlessness and lack of motivation. Her family had her shape up by forcing her to join the EFSF JROTC program when she entered high school. Their plan worked as intended, and she was dramatically transformed into a responsible and hard-working young teen before she had finished her first year.
However, the One Year War broke out during her high school years, and the Korean Peninsula fell under Zeonic occupation for most of the conflict. During this time, the line between civilian and freedom fighter was blurred, and resistance to occupation was woven into everyday life: although Ha-yeon never got involved with a resistance group in any serious or formal way, she and many others her age found themselves doing courier work or other small jobs for them from time to time. Several of Ha-yeon's friends, classmates, and acquaintances were arrested by Zeon security forces, and not all came back. Her cousin's fate is unknown to this day.
Ha-yeon completed her high school studies shortly after the war officially ended, and the EFSF honored her JROTC service. She was accepted into officer school in Turkey and, to her own surprise even, showed an aptitude for piloting mobile suits (alongside small electronics, avionics, and some other skills). She graduated 9th in her class and was one of a handful of cadets in said class to be approached by the still-new Titans. She accepted, thrilled to be invited into the Federation's elite new force. The events of the Delaz Conflict and the '83 Colony Drop were still fresh in everybody's memory, after all, so she was convinced that the fight against Zeon was still going strong. She found out later that no higher-ranked cadets were approached; it would be many years before she figured out why some cadets were sought out and others were not.
Ha-yeon was transferred to space for mobile suit training. She was trained primarily in GM-type mobile suits and later on the Hizack, though she has experience piloting a selection of space planes, launches, mobile pods, and Zaku II-series mobile suits. She also has some training in operating warship bridge equipment and executing some basic medical procedures (enough to assist a doctor, far from enough to replace one). She completed this training shortly before she was moved to her first field assignment with the Titans Special Inspections Team 8 "Centaur Unit", a garrison unit stationed at Side 3 as part of the Federation's postwar agreement with the Republic of Zeon, in late UC 0085.
During her deployment with the Centaur Unit, an incident occurred with a Zabi revivalist terror cell. This incident resulted in the deaths of Centaur Unit's commanding and executive officers, the latter the son of an Assemblyman. Although the terrorist cell and their moles in the RoZ military were eventually rooted out, with Ha-yeon and her comrades proving themselves in mobile suit combat in the process, the deaths of Centaur Unit's two highest-ranking officers marred the careers of all other officers within the Unit, including Ha-yeon's. The mission was regarded as an embarrassment to both thec Titans and the RoZ, and reports related to it are heavily redacted to all but the highest-ranking personnel. By mid-0086, Ha-yeon had been reassigned to a garrison unit at Confeito, where she languished and saw little advancement, despite maintaining high skills.
In 0087, Ha-yeon was placed in a hastily-assembled taskforce that attempted to intercept the AEUG's drop on Jaburo, marking her first combat sortie since 0085 and her only encounter with AEUG. Despite her performance, the bad reputation associated with the failed Centaur Unit saw her returned to Confeito garrison duty afterward. In late August 0087, she was promoted to Ensign and qualified on the Marasai model. In early September, she received word that she was finally being transferred out of Confeito to a frontline unit.
Other: During her teen years and officer school, Ha-yeon was an amateur bantamweight boxer with a 33-4 record, winning silver in the world championships during the break between her first and second years of officer school. She still practices the sport as a hobby and for fitness. She also has an appreciation for coffee and cocktails.
