The Introduction
]In the year U.C. 0079, the cluster of colonies farthest from the Earth known as Side 3 proclaimed itself the Principality of Zeon and launched its war for independence against the Earth Federation. In what was expected to be a short war, the conflict between the Federation and Zeon saw untold destruction on both colonies and even Earth itself. Within a month, the population of humanity saw its numbers reduced by a billion lives with the number poised to grow nearly three billion by the war’s conclusion. Despite its early victories thanks to the awesome power of its Mobile Suits, the Principality was ultimately defeated, surrendering on January 1st 0080 and giving the Earth Sphere a chance to heal after the atrocities that befell it.
Or so humanity hoped.
Though the Principality itself was defeated, Side 3 renouncing its name and becoming the Republic of Zeon with a degree of autonomy under the Federation government, a great many soldiers refused to surrender. While some fled the Earth Sphere in its entirety to the asteroid belt, others banded together and began a guerilla war as pirates and remnants. Striking out at Federation and civilian installations where they could, the Zeon Remnants proved themselves to be a thorn in the Federation’s side, gathering more strength with each appearance. It all culminated in the Delaz Conflict, an incident that saw the Federation’s Space Fleet lose two-thirds of its number in a nuclear attack and a colony dropped on the American Mid-West, depriving the Federation of valuable foodstuffs.
In the face of these constant Zeon uprisings and having little in the way of success in preventing them, the Federation reached a decision: To create an elite counter-insurgency unit with its sole purpose being to hunt down and eliminate the remnants of Zeon, those who supported it, and those who would rebel against the Earth Federation. Known as the Titans, the unit quickly proved itself in eliminating the Federation’s enemies and over the span a few years, gained more and more influence within the Federation, so much so that their scope grew to encompass any and all opposition to the Federation, be it military or otherwise. This expansion and the dogged pursuit of its enemies put a strain on the civilian populace with unrest growing by the day. The tempers of the citizens finally reached a boiling point in U.C. 0085. Gathering in Colony 30 of Side 1, the citizens held a mass protest against the heavy-handed actions of the Titans. Within days, the protest turned violent as riots broke out across the colony, all attempts by the local Federation forces to calm the chaos failing repeatedly. In desperation, the Federation called in the Titans and their answer was as simple as it was horrific: To shut down the colony’s air supply and flood the air with G3 Poison Gas, wiping out everyone inside the colony without lifting a finger. The Federation’s top politicians didn’t even bother charging the Titans with crimes against humanity.
For the citizens of the Federation and especially the spacenoids who repeatedly suffered under the Titans’ tactics, this was the final straw. Headquartered at the lunar city of Granada, sympathetic Federation soldiers and those trampled by the Titans banded together to form the Anti-Earth Union Group or AEUG. With their goal being the complete disbanding and disarmament of the Titans, the AEUG began their war against their oppressors.
It is now August of U.C. 0087 and the war between the Titans and the AEUG rages with no clear end in sight. In the wake of the AEUG’s invasion of the Federation’s former military headquarters, Jaburo, the Federation Council has voted to give the Titans complete authority over the normal Federation forces and assets. Despite these overwhelming odds, the AEUG has proved to be a powerful opponent for the Titans and as the war spirals out of control, there are signs that the Federation’s upper echelons are reconsidering their stance. Worse yet, rumors are beginning to flourish ghosts of the Principality of Zeon are planning to make their grand entrance into the Earth Sphere once more, their isolation in the asteroid belt coming to an end. Already, the remnants that stayed behind in the years since the OYW are rearing their heads, eager for their brethren to join the fight.
With the war soon to open on yet another front, this conflict promises to be just as destructive as the OYW before it and none can say which side will emerge as the final victor.
