Welcome to the Bite-Size Monster Encyclopedia!
This is a little list of monsters that exist within the world you see before you! When creating a character, you can use one of the monsters from this list OR you can create a monster species of your own! and when that monster gets approved, it'll be added into the encyclopedia for others to create as well! It doesn't get any simpler than that!
Let's do this!
Variable Class
(This class is assigned to monsters that are debatable in their class because of the amount of variety there is within their races, in terms of appearances as well as powers. These monsters will be analyzed by the mods and will be given the appropriate class depending on their traits and powers.)
Monstrel
Type of hybrid ayashi with unclear ancestors. Among all the ayashi, majority are outcast ayashi with different types and abilities. Most of them have the ability of transforming their body parts into weapons or performing different skills with their body.
Chimera
A monster appearing in Greek mythology, with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and a serpent as its tail. Since then, any beast created by parts of various animals has become to be known as a "Chimera." As it is synthesized from different animals, it's behavior is diverse, and no one yet knows it's true abilities.
F-Class
Human
The dominant race in the realm outside of the world of monsters, though it's also the weakest of all the species on the list, despite their reputation for being very smart and adaptive. Their abilities vary from person to person, and they come in many different shapes and sizes.
E-Class
Lizardman
A reptilian humanoid with a face of a lizard. Despite their outward appearance, they possess a high intellectual ability. Their bond with their friends is strong, but are aggressive to anyone else. They are a race of war-like hunters.
Merman (Fish Variant)
A half-fish, half-man ayashi with a pair of webbed and scaly limbs. They are capable of firing a compressed burst of water from their body like a bullet
D-Class
Madslug
A slug monster that enjoys wet places. It likes being a bother and is often found in swamps and wetlands enjoying scaring humans who come nearby. They eat rotten food and make poison gas with their body. When scared, they use the gas as an attack.
Jorogumo
A spider monster that takes the form of a women. It has been known in Japan since ancient times. Her appearance is very beautiful, and she uses it to mystify men and eat them. She makes sticky threads within her body which she uses to strangle and take her prey.
Tsuchigumo
The male counterpart to the Jorogumo, being a spider that impersonates a man to disguise itself. It takes its time with its prey, working to let its food tire out before going in to eat them, allowing its sticky silk to entrap and immobilize them.
Goblin
Starting their legend in France before expanding throughout most of European folklore, these small goons are tricksters and adept travelers. They are pack hunters that take pride in their strength in numbers. Though not as smart as other creatures, they make up for it with sheer bravery and determination to accomplish their goals. They can grow up into advanced versions of themselves if they have enough spiritual energy.
Banshee
Recorded in Irish legend, these are spirits that are related to the fairy family. Their sonic cry is regarded as an ill omen, telling that there will be an imminent death in the family. They come in many forms, all of them female.
Gnome
Known in Scandinavian folklore, these fae-like beings live in burrows within hilled woodlands. They are famous for having magic made for protection and punishment, as well as being guardians of underground treasures. Their skills in alchemy and natural sorcery are well studied in the world of monsters.
Pixie
A lesser species of fae within the realm of monsters. They have well-inherited ties to the mystic arts, the dust they spread from their bodies used as a catalyst to conjure spells of various kinds. Though, being lesser cousins, they don't prove themselves as very strong fighters.
Wyvern
A type of dragon whose two front legs have become wings. It is smaller than a real dragon, and its intelligence and battle strength is also lower, but it is still bad news. It uses its poisonous tail to attack.
Centaur
Noble hunters of Greek myth, they are said to be a strange hybrid species born of Ixion and Nephele. They are bound to the wilderness as they are natural trackers and travelers. Once a centaur bonds with an ally, they are promised the freedom of the mountain range for all time.
Minotaur
In Greek legends, it is a large man with a powerful head of a bull. It has incredible strength along with its size, as well as a good level of intelligence. They are popularly known as monsters lurking in labyrinths that hunt down travelers.
C-Class
Mermaid
Contrary to the sweet image projected in popular fairy tales, sailors know that these terrible beauties portend shipwrecks and death.
Onimodoki
A variant of shape-shifting monster that can duplicate a monster's feature at will. Unlike the Doppelgangers, however, they do not have the ability to mimic the monster's powers and abilities. At the same time, they do not require physical contact to transform to the monster they wish to be.
Mukadegami
A well-known giant centipede-like monster in Japan and China. It can grow to a few tens of meters and its appearance can be quite frightening. It is often described as a beast that harms humans, having voracious appetite and eating humans and livestock.
Kraken
An ayashi that looks like an octopus. Legends say that a large one would be long as several kilometers in length which even frightens Vikings of the North. They are usually peaceful creatures but when they are angry, they will drag down anything to the bottom of the ocean.
Hobgoblin
These creatures are goblins who have trained their body and mind and are natural leaders in the goblin world. They can use their spiritual energy to invigorate their comrades. They generally have reddish skin tones and are roughly the same size as your average human, with strong builds.
Bugbear
These ferocious monsters are goblins who have focused solely on being strong, thus they grew larger than hobgoblins and have longer arms than their brethren. They have a tendency to be lazy and not too bright, but they make up for this in their ability to intimidate weaker monsters easily.
Slime
Commonly called Ooze, these creatures are known for their all-liquid appearance and come in varying colors. Most are smart enough to use their bodies to morph into various shapes and they all have the power to merge their bodies with water, making them grow in size or having them blend in with the liquid as a method of disguise.
Alraune (Flower People)
Foretold in German legend, these are plant-like beings that are closely tied to the voices of nature. They are often slim and elegant, mostly covered in flower petals. The majority of them often get their nutrients from the soil by digging their legs and feet into the ground.
Dullahan
Also called Gan Ceann in Irish folklore, they are depicted as headless horse riders that carry their original heads in their hands as they travel. It is said that they are physical embodiments of the Celtic fertility god Crom Dubh. In some tellings, when one of these riders stops riding somewhere, it is where a person is destined to die.
Elf (Light and Dark Variants)
First recorded in German myth, this tribe of humanoid monsters is very well known for their long-life spans and their ties to nature and magic. They are commonly recognized in two variants. The light elves are more noble and precise in their work in the woods as skilled hunters and workers in healing magic, while dark elves are wilder and more ambitious, known as trained warriors, that delve into more dangerous magic.
Dryad (Tree People)
Originating in Greek myth, they are tree nymphs or spirits that inhabit the deepest parts of the woodlands. They are an all-female race of monsters, having the power to control the trees around them to attack people who threaten their home. Most of them live their lives in solitude.
Salamander
These lizards of French folklore are said to not only create fire from their mouths, but also put out fires on their own. Naturally, they are considered to be fire spirits. They are sometimes regarded as symbols of passion, immortality and rebirth.
Artifact Spirit
An object which gained a soul after a long period of time. Most of the time they have special powers related to their artifact. Generally, artifact spirits hold a grudge against those who have mistreated them. When they turn evil, they destroy every master they encounter.
B-Class
Cyclops
Giants with round eyes and a horn on their heads. They're wild and low in intelligence. Because of that they seem like low level grunts, but they are regarded as demigods in myths and legends. Their name means "Round-Eye".
Frankenstein
A monster that's made up of several different parts of individual people, brought back to life through various methods. Most of these creatures are traditionally made using stitchwork and supernatural reanimation. Their asymmetrical bodies are able to harness electricity as a weapon, being natural conduits for it.
Lamia
A monster known from Greek legends, their upper body is human while her lower body is snake. She posses the power to control people's minds. She is a feared monster who lures children in and kills them.
Medusa
Known from the myths of ancient Greece, a being with the hair of snakes and a terrifying visage. Able to turn living beings into stone... Some say all it takes is a glimpse of her face.
Merman (Shark Variant)
These variants of the merman are larger in size and much stronger, their shark-like forms powerful enough to cause major damage. Their skin is firm and durable, with their ability to hunt effectively make them a frightening force.
Djinn (Wind Genie)
Widely known in Arabic lore like it's other variants, they are old and preternatural creatures with some relations to human behavior. They are connected to the element of air, some said to be sealed away in items like lamps and old vases with promises of wishes granted to their finders. Most possess the power of flight as well as the power to control wind, though applications of these can vary.
Ifrit (Fire Genie)
These beings are genies that have the elemental connection to fire, being more self-centered and prone to working in solitude. Though they have few allies, they prove themselves to be highly skilled in combat. They are respectful and bound to honor, making themselves home in active volcanoes.
Marid (Water Genie)
Cousins of the other Genie races working with the water element, these are said to be the strongest variants in terms of power and control over their element. They are amphibious beings that value freedom and individualism, them being owners of very durable fortresses and kingdoms. In Islamic lore, they are regarded as malicious spirits despite their deeds.
Shaitan (Earth Genie)
Given the title of "Unbelieving Genie" in Islamic folklore, they are a strain of their kind that possess control over the earth element, often living as traveling merchants. They sometimes settle down and live with working mineral mines. They are rewarding to those who do great acts of kindness towards them, though they are not afraid to enslave those who threaten them as punishment.
Faerie (Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Courts)
First told of in Scottish and Irish folklore, these high-class members of the fae are numerous in numbers as well as variants, most of them organized in four different courts. Spring court faeries are bright-eyed and polite, summer faeries are benevolent and hot-headed, autumn faeries are hard-working and devious, and winter faeries are malevolent and baleful. Their trickery using magic is precise and chaotic in design.
Golem
Originating in Jewish legend, they are known to be guardians created from clay, mud, rock, stone or other materials in the world. In modern culture, they are known to be protectors of tombs and dungeons, awaiting adventurers to wander into their next battle. Their strength is renowned as much as their great durability.
A-Class
Troll
A monster that originated in Northern Europe. The form they are said to take varies from country to country, but at their base they are warlike giants who live in hilly areas and attack human passersby.
Doppelganger
A creature known in literature to look exactly like someone else. Anyone who sees this creature typically dies within a few days, and its identity remains a mystery. In German the name means "one who walks double".
Succubus
A monster of the night known since the Middle Ages. The female version of an Incubus, it appears in the dreams of sleeping men to seduce them.
Witch
Known since ancient times, they are a race on the boundary of between human and Yōkai. They live in harmony with nature deep within the woods, far from human habitation. It is said that they have the power to use magic by harnessing the power of nature.
Yasha
A demon with its origins in India that become known in places such as China. They excel at transformation and use of yōkai techniques. Those forms range from lions, elephants, hermits, with either one eye or three eyes, they can use varied forms. In Japan they are similar to ogres.
Yuki-Onna
These mysterious creatures of snow and ice only appear during a large snowstorm or blizzards. They have a habit of freezing the lone travelers and abduct the males that they like. These cold and monstrous habits make them well known in Japanese society. They have the power to manipulate ice and snow.
Yuki-Otoko
Known as the abominable snowman or yeti, it is said to be a large, ape-like monster, similar to Bigfoot, that inhabits snowy mountain ranges. In the anime, they are shown as male counterparts to the Yuki Onna.
Zombie
The dead ones who were buried but could not rest in peace and are resurrected from their graves. Most of the time, they won't remember their previous lives and are extremely violent. They possess the superhuman strength like bears, but as they are corpses, their bodies are stiff, and cannot perform flexible maneuvers. In Japan, they're commonly known as "Kyonshii"
Oni
Commonly named "Deamon" in Japanese, these monsters are known to be lesser versions of the Kishin. They worked as servants to their higher counterparts to cause mayhem wherever they go. They are easily distinguished thanks to their freakish upward tusks and their one protruding horn on one side of their faces.
Dragon
Well known since their induction in the Middle Ages, they are large reptilian monsters that can fly for miles without tiring. Some can live up to several centuries in a lifetime. They have many variants, each having their own specialized breath weapon for self-defense.
S-Class
Vampire
Also known as The Immortal Ones, Vampires are often mentioned in the folklore of various cultures: a monster that sucks the blood of humans and livestock. Possessing high battle capabilities and is not easy to kill, their strength is one of the greatest among monsters, but at the cost of such significant weaknesses like being weakened by rosaries (through the presence of silver) and water.
Kishin
A general term used to describe all powerful Oni in the world of Yokai. The term "oni" is well known throughout Japan, but it's said to have originated from the "Rakshasa" gods who served Vaisravana along with the Yasha. Known for their belligerent and cannibalistic natures, they are known to control destruction and ruin.
Pheonix
A legendary bird that freely manipulated fire. Graceful in nature, it is said to be powerful enough to blow away mountains. Should this bird ever die, it is known to reincarnate itself from its own ashes, being born anew for the next generation.
Siren
A mythical half-man half-bird creature from ancient Greece that lived by the sea. Originally, they were referred to as a god whose singing voice had the power to disrupt the minds of those that listen to it. In fact, this creature is the root word of the English word "Siren."
Crow Tengu
A yōkai from Ancient Japan. Possessing the beak and feathers of a crow, it can manipulate the wind through its supernatural powers. Its origins date back before the proud Tengu. There are many legends involving this creature, such as Kurama Tengu, who taught swordsmanship to Ushiwakamaru. It is famous for being a creature who likes children.
Werewolf
A beast of western origin. In exchange for its lack of a unique ability, its physical power towers above the rest. Especially in terms of agility, it is said that there is no equal. It possesses a deep connection to the moon, where its strength increases proportional to the intensity of moonlight.
Youko
The generic term for the Inari, Kudagitsune, and Osaki classes of spirit foxes. Represented by the nine tailed fox, many have very strong supernatural energy. Also, when they beat their tails together, they create something known as "kitsunebi" (fox fire) and completely burn any human who does them harm.
SS-Class
Shinso Vampire
This is a stronger variant of the vampire race, with members of this carrying the blood of the original vampire, Dracula. They are regarded as highly valuable, having regenerative abilities and the benefit of greatly delayed aging. They take pride in protecting their family, and are loving allies once won over.
Ancient Dragon
This is an older variant of dragonkind, carrying the traits of the very first dragons to have walked the land of monsters. Their skin is spiny and highly durable. Most of them have inherited the wisdom of their old ancestors, willing to share it to those they deem worthy.
Primeval Lycanthrope
This is a strain of the half-beast creatures that are said to carry the original variation of the curse that started the legacy of the lycanthropes. They are able to transform into a large wolf-man, though this form looks significantly more intimidating than the average werewolf, their speed more refined and precise. During nights of the full moon, they develop temporary schizophrenia until the season has ended.
Gaiea Elemental
These are primeval elementals that were born when the world was still young. Each one has the ability to adapt their bodies to gain powers depending on the environment they inhabit, such as the power to shape into sand while in a desert, or to shift into water while in the ocean. Though they are still limited in their application of this power, they are nonetheless very powerful creatures.
