Physical Description: Victra is a surprising person to look at up close. Despite her height of 5'10", her build and structure often makes people think she is younger and smaller. She is a dark still girl who has been blessed with a very youthful look. She has long platinum blonde hair and eyes are a brownish red. From certain angles and in certain light they can look red. For her physical build, Victra is healthy, never having missed a meal in her left but she is fit. The standards of Fortis have made sure that she is capable of pulling her own weight and keeping herself alive. Even though the comfortable lifestyle her family's wealth can easily afford, Victra's body still shows the signs of someone who's still very active, as she will pick up small scars occasionally.
Clothing: Victra favours a white and blue out. Mainly composed of white layers, the shirt's hem is short but this is made up for at the back where a longer half skirt flows behind her legs. History: To understand the history of Victra, one must first know about the Vashanesh Von Vriessde house. This particular take on the story starts back when Manfred Vashanesh Von Tellemanus, one of Victra's ancestors, took the throne of Fortis. A great man in all rights, though what is remembered of his legacy on pages of common history is the effort spent on domesticating a lesser breed of monsters for the kingdom's use. It was a controversial move back in the day the resources spent, had a lasting effect on the nation. The domesticated Pygmy Wyvern became the messenger of choice among the nobility. Compared to existing avian messengers, the Wyvern were higher on the food chain, even when next to predatory birds but not only that as they were both loyal and intelligent. For reasons not understood, the Wyvern could be told the name of the receiver and with no guidance or location given, would find that individual even if they were on a ship at sea or on another continent. They would always deliver the message to and only to its intended recipient.
King Manfred was later to stand down his position as king due to failing eyesight and in his alleged wisdom pass on the crown. It is believed this was actually a ploy by the former king to establish his family as the primary source of trained Wyvern within the kingdom. His immediate family moved to Vriessde Provence and established what was to be their new ancestral home, allowing his sibling to retain the Tellemanus holdings. Here he and the family he took with him began actively training and breeding Messenger Wyvern. The resulting breed would later be called Vriessde Wyvern. A practice the family adopted, along with a few others.
This brings us back to Victra, the first daughter and second child of her family. Naturally this means her older brother is the current heir. Though with his currently proposed wife, it's likely he will succeed that estate instead and leave Vriessde to Victra or their younger sister. He would say something like 'The Wyvern like you better than they like me, you're more suited to take over the family business'. A noble lie, one could say but that isn't important right now. No, what is that Victra grew up knowing she would be second in her family and she was fine with that. Being second had its perks among the Vashenesh.
As a child Victra had to grow up with the majority of her parents' attention on her brother. There were times of course where she was the center of their attention, such as the days when she was hatching her first Wyvern. They were probably worried that it wouldn't imprint on her. If a hatching didn't imprint there was a superstition, that she would never get on with Wyvern. Thankfully this was not the case, it turns out Wyvern adores Victra. They just seem to resonate with her, so with application of some training techniques and repetition, those she raised developed faster than those by her brother. So as a young child, she was the envy of most of the noble kids. Especially when she walked into formal events with four wyvern in tow.
Like all people of Fortis, Victra was given an education but a more expensive one than those given to the lower classes. It was extensive and intensive. Probably true for most noble kids. She had several teachers, though her favorites were those that were her relatives. Such as her uncle Adrius Von Hestell and her distant cousins the Tellemanus. Her uncle mostly taught her politics and finances. The Tellemanus were more for the violent arts. They are a loud and boisterous lot. Even the women tended towards this way. However they were fun, good natured people. They loved telling stories, adventures of old and recent, of triumphs and falls. They were always the family to beat in tournaments, martially they were powerful but they, like the Vriessde, tended to sponsor candidates rather than aim for the throne themselves. They also used the tournaments when they came up to recruit from the lower classes. These are probably more cases of the low born being adopted into nobility than the rest of the kingdom combined. It was their way of rewarding those with true worth and adding a little diversity to the bloodlines.
Victra can't be said to be a prodigy when it came to combat, she has talent for it but short of using wyvern in track, she doesn't excel in any other field other than political intrigue. As Adrius had said to her, it looked like she was the sort of person the next king or queen would depend on as an ally. Victra and Adrius were close, the man treated her like his own daughter and he and his family often spent a lot of time with hers. The amount of time they spent in each other's homes, it would have been hard to tell which family was which. However Adrius was a noble and duty to the kingdom would call upon him. Something Victra didn't like when she was younger. So Adrius came up with a little scheme. Every time he was to leave, he would give her his signet ring, it held little value next to his Hestell ring, but his words were 'I'm not about to forget who my family is in a hurry, I'll be back for that so keep it safe for me' and she did. Each and every time, Victra would keep it safe. Until one day he left and never returned. His wife also left never to return after she led an expedition to find him or at least find out what happened to him. After a year, Victra's parents and the Tellemanus concluded that she too was dead. Victra's family took in Beatrix Hestell as their own.
Beatrix had effectively been a sister to Victra and hadn't been raising in the ways of the Vriessde. No as the last of the Hestell, she had been raised initially as their heir so she naturally inherited everything. Just at the time, she was still a child. She needed to be taught and with her parents gone for the time being, till she was ready, the Vashanesh families split the responsibility between them. Until then she only had to grow up. She would be kept somewhat apart from Victra in that sense, their individual studies diverged.
For in Victra's case, she had to learn about the part of the family business that wasn't common knowledge. The Shady underhand dealings her family practices. It was all to do with Wyvern. While there were other breeders in he kingdom. None had the right to claim theirs were the best. That was something only the Vriessde could claim, a Vriessde Wyvern was the best money could buy but messengers weren't the houses only products. They often sold flocks of their rejects, Wyvern who did not meet the house's standards, or were just the excess stock that never got fully trained. Other Nobility and rich merchants would buy these flocks as they were a symbol of wealth, a way to show off how rich one was while maintaining the guise of practicality. After All even the semi trained garden pets made excellent pest control, at least till their owners forget to feed them and the flock decides to leave. There is however, a third product. In the family it's called the Skystalker and it's mostly responsible for the reputation of the Vriessde messengers. The Skystalker is trained to be an interceptor, they are taught to hunt down and intercept messenger birds and Wyvern not of Vriessde stock. They will also steal whatever the message is. Thus giving the illusion that the Vriessde Wyvern are better because they don't suffer from the problem of being prey to 'wild' wyvern. Only a few noble families know that the Skystalker breed exists. Members of what's often called the Fortis protectorates. Noble families who duty and responsibility in the kingdom is key to its survival. Only these families have the right to purchase a skystalker. Otherwise the skystalker is planted among the flocks, seemingly ordinary and not special at least till it takes down the competition. Skystalkers do serve a few more purposes such as protecting the Vriessde Messengers, and attacking Wyverns.
This is, however, the tip of the iceberg. As message interception is but just one means to an end, it's what they do with them afterwards. Certain messengers are trained to stop by Vriessde holdings so their message can be copied before they arrive at their destination. And those intercepted may never reach their destination. Some are altered, or sent to a different recipient. House Vriessde has been responsible for controlling the spread of information within the kingdom for generations. They with the help of the throne and other noble houses have prevented insurrections, rebellions and interference from other kingdoms. They have also guided political movements and changes among the nobility. On the odd occasion interfered with political union or aided it. Victra's mother even proudly boasts to her that she had once helped a young lady marry the man she loved rather than the man her parents wanted her to marry. Something Victra might choose to do later in life. Especially after she became a knight of the kingdom.
Victra was awarded the position for a number of reasons. Firstly she was capable, in terms of military prowess she was a cut above the rest though not quite Tellemanus quality. But also caused her affinity with the Wyvern. Naturally, it's common for a member of a breeding house to receive the position unless of course, the knight master found themselves an apprentice. Naturally all Royal messengers are Vriessde, only the best for the Royals but use of Royal Wyvern's are very strictly recorded. Even personal ones of the Royal family. For the Vriessde house it often means that if there was troubling talk taking place, it would come via a lesser breed of Wyvern or at least a Vriessde owned by someone outside the Royal family. The task assigned to her position is of course a caretaker. Her duty is to maintain their flock and assure they are fed and healthy. Given how these Wyvern were either trained by her hand or by the hands on her family. Working with them is simple. She would delegate tasks to servants where she could but on the most part the duty is mostly fetching or returning the Wyvern from their keep. She is of course not the only knight with such a duty, though it's often looked down upon by those who don't understand the power of writing over physical strength.
Victra also has another duty, the Flock master specifically has her select the replacements for when a Wyvern needs replacing. It may have been a move to try and undermine her or simply a logical choice to have her do it since Victra did have greater understanding and knowledge of the creatures. Care for the personal Wyvern however, was always given to a more senior knight. Seemingly a more simple task, except they were often at the owners whim for when they were summoned or called upon.
