General Information
Full Name:
Peter Benjamin Parker
Codename or Alias:
Spider-Man, Spidey, Webhead, Web-slinger, Wallcrawler, Tiger, Pete
Anonymity:
As one of the most well-known superheroes on the planet, Spider-Man is known by almost everyone. He is a national treasure to many and an unnecessary source of chaos to others. Still, he is known in most circles, to varying degrees of fame. His true identity of Peter Parker is much less known, however. To most, he's an average joe, albeit one with a very gifted intellect and a good eye for photography. Peter deliberately keeps certain aspects of himself subdued, as to not draw too much attention to him being revealed as Spider-Man. He has revealed his identity to those closest to him and some of his fellow superheroes.

"Everybody in our odd little community would deny it, but we all watch each other when we cross paths, looking for weaknesses, in case that day ever comes. In case they ever have to stop me...or I ever have to stop them. But we never talk about it. Ever."
Powers/Abilities:
Spider Physiology
After getting bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter attained the proportionate powers and capabilities of a spider, altering his physiology and consequently granting him superpowers and newfound heightened senses. The radioactive, complex mutagenic enzymes in the spider's blood that were transferred at the time of the bite triggered numerous body-wide mutagenic changes within Parker, granting him superhuman strength, speed, toughened flesh, and numerous arachnid-like abilities. That mutation granted him an "enhanced chromosome pattern."
Wall-Crawling
Spider-Man's exposure to the mutated spider venom induced a mutagenic, cerebellum-wide alteration of his engrams resulting in the ability to mentally control the flux of inter-atomic attraction (electrostatic force) between molecular boundary layers. This overcomes the outer electron shell's normal behavior of mutual repulsion with other outer electron shells and permits the tremendous potential for electron attraction to prevail. The mentally controlled sub-atomic particle responsible for this has yet to be identified. This ability to affect the attraction between surfaces is so far limited to Spider-Man's body (especially concentrated in his hands and feet) and another object, with an upper limit of several tons per finger.
Superhuman Strength
Spider-Man possesses superhuman strength enabling him to press lift many tons. He can easily swing a 3-ton wrecking ball using steel chains. Spider-Man's physical strength is sufficient enough to enable him to lift and throw objects as heavy as a big rig semi truck with ease, and land a jet he estimated had a landing weight between 175,000-215,000 pounds. He must also pull his punches and kicks unless fighting someone of similar or greater physical durability. Otherwise, his blows would prove fatal to a normal human being. He has demonstrated that he is strong enough to knock out people with normal durability with as little as a tap to the head. As such, he rarely lets himself use all of his strength. Spider-Man's physical strength also extends into his legs, enabling him to be able to jump to a height of several stories in a single bound. Spider-Man demonstrated this when he leaped over thirty feet vertically into the air when he first leaped out of the way of an oncoming car; it should also be noted that when he first discovered his powers as a teenager, they had not developed to that of his prime.
Superhuman Speed
Spider-Man is capable of running and moving at speeds that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. Spider-Man is fast enough to catch up to an accelerating car while on foot, but prefers to travel by webs. Spider-Man moves faster than the eye can follow; he has even moved so fast he appears as a blur.
Superhuman Stamina
Spider-Man's advanced musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than an ordinary human. This allows him to exert himself physically for much longer periods of time before fatigue begins to impair him. At his peak, Spider-Man can physically exert himself at his peak capacity for several hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him. Several accounts depict Spider-Man as able to hold his breath for eight minutes or more.
Superhuman Durability
Spider-Man's body is physically tougher and more resistant to some types of injury than the body of a normal human. His body is more resistant to impact forces than anything else. He can withstand great impacts, such as falling from a height of several stories or being struck by an opponent with super strength. Events which would severely injure or kill a normal human, leave him with little to no discomfort. Spider-Man's body is durable to the point where tensing his super-strong muscles while being punched in the torso by a trained heavyweight boxer caused the attacker's wrists to break. Spider-Man has stated that he must roll with punches thrown by people without similar strength or durability, in order to avoid breaking their wrists.
Superhuman Agility
Spider-Man's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are all enhanced to levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. Spider-Man is extraordinarily limber and his tendons and connective tissues are twice as elastic as the average human being is despite their physical strength. He has the combined agility and acrobatic prowess of the most accomplished circus aerialists and acrobats. He can also perform any complicated sequence of gymnastic stunts such as flips, rolls, and springs. He can easily match or top any Olympic record at gymnastics apparatus such as flying rings, climbing ropes, horizontal bars, trampolines, and even comparable to the likes of Daredevil.
Regenerative Healing Factor
Spider-Man is able to rapidly heal and regenerate from harm rapidly faster and more extensively than normal humans are capable of and can rapidly heal and regenerate from harm that normal humans cannot heal from. After getting his powers, he soon found that his eyesight was repaired, discarding his glasses. He privately admitted that he can't heal "Wolverine-quick."
Enhanced Immune System
Due to his accelerated metabolism, Spider-Man has a higher tolerance for drugs and diseases than normal humans, and he can recover from the effects of larger doses rapidly. His resistance and recovery time to other toxins and diseases varies, but is typically significantly higher than normal. However, Spider-Man has the normal human tolerance for alcoholic beverages.
Superhuman Equilibrium
Spider-Man possesses the ability to achieve a state of perfect equilibrium in any position imaginable. He seems able to adjust his position by instinct, which enables him to balance himself on virtually any object, no matter how small or narrow.
Superhuman Reflexes
Spider-Man's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are currently about forty times greater than those of an ordinary human. In combination with his spider-sense, the speed of his reflexes allows him to dodge almost any attack, or even gunfire, given sufficient distance. Spider-Man has even been shown in some cases, to be able to dodge gunfire using just his reflexes without his spider-sense.
Spider-Sense
Spider-Man possesses a precognitive "danger" or "spider" sense which warns him of potential or immediate danger by the manifestation of a tingling sensation in the back of his skull, and links with his superhuman kinesthetics, enabling him to evade most any injuries, unless he cognitively overrides his automatic reflexes. The precise nature of this sense is unknown. It appears to be a simultaneous clairvoyant response to a wide variety of phenomena (everything from falling safes to speeding bullets to thrown punches), which has given several hundredths of a second warning, which is sufficient time for his reflexes to allow him to avoid injury. The sense also can create a general response on the order of several minutes: he cannot discern the nature of the threat by the sensation. He can, however, discern the severity of the danger by the strength of his response to it.
Spider-Man's spider-sense is directional and can guide him to or away from hidden weapons and enemies. Sudden and extreme threats can cause his spider-sense to react with painful intensity. Spider-Man can also sense and dodge attacks directed randomly or by an artificial intelligence. Using his spider-sense to time his enhanced reflexes, Spider-Man can casually dodge attacks up to and including automatic-weapons fire, provided there is sufficient distance. His spider-sense is sufficiently well-linked to his reflexes to the point that a threat can trigger them even when Spider-Man is asleep or stunned. His spider-sense has helped him preserve his secret identity since it alerts him to observers or cameras when changing into or out of his costume. The spider-sense does react to those who Peter does not consider to be a threat, such as Aunt May, or when a fellow hero makes a bluff while playing poker. Spider-Man can choose to ignore his spider-sense, and distraction or fatigue diminish its effectiveness. Spider-Man's fighting style incorporates the advantage that his "spider-sense" provides him. His body begins to produce more adrenaline after the sense is triggered, an extension of the 'fight or flight syndrome.' Even when he does not have the use of his eyes, Spider-Man can still use his Spider Sense in a similar fashion to Daredevil's Radar Sense to help him see by sensing the direction the danger is coming from by listening on the loudest noise around him. As a result of the Venom symbiote bonding to Spider-Man, it and its offspring do not trigger his spider-sense -- a trait that sometimes has been attributed to symbiotes in general.
Radio Frequency Detection
Peter's spider-sense also enables him to track certain radio frequencies, which he has used to his advantage via his Spider-Tracers

Indomitable Will
Spider-Man has a strong Force of Will, completely free of evil and temptation. For years, he has struggled to balance his life as a student and his superhero duties. He is able to emerge from defeat even stronger. Through the psychological profiles conducted by Maria Hill, she has stated that nobody has as strong as an ingrained identity as Spider-Man, further demonstrating the extent of his willpower.
Genius-Level Intellect
With an IQ north of 250, Peter is easily one of the most intelligent men on Earth. Some of the Earth's most brilliant minds such as Reed Richards and Hank Pym have acknowledged Peter's intellect, with the former acknowledging him as an intellectual equal whose potential rivals his own. In addition, Peter's college IQ scores were the same as those posted by Reed Richards at the same age.
Expert Inventor/Engineer
With his knowledge and expertise in mechanics, robotics and engineering Peter has been able to use his amazing intellect and resources at Horizon Labs to create many inventions such as the Spider-Armors, the Spidey Stealth Suit, his famous Web-Shooters, the Cryo-Cube 3000 and the noise reduction headphones.
Skilled Photographer
Peter is a very skilled photographer and has worked for the Daily Bugle and the Front Line as a photographer.
Master Acrobat
Thanks to his great strength and phenomenal equilibrium, Parker is an excellent athlete, excelling in all gymnastic fields and being able to perform every acrobatic stunt ever performed, including others that can never be performed by even an Olympic acrobat
Master Martial Artist
Peter has through time become an excellent hand-to-hand combatant utilizing a fighting style that directly complements his superhuman abilities. His methods are volatile, enabling him to rival practically all types of combatants.
Weapons/Items:
Spider-Man's arsenal primarily consists of a wide array of web-based gadgets that complement his powers. Most notably, he makes use of mechanical web-shooters to help navigate and trap his enemies. Later on in his career, Peter constructed more web gadgets to use in combat—namely the Impact Web, the Spider-Drone, the Electric Web, the Web Bomb, the Trip Mine, the Concussive Blast, and the Suspension Matrix. The gadgets have unique features and abilities, allowing them to be used in combinations with one another. Peter keeps most of these gadgets in his utility belt, which he naturally built himself.
Utility Belt
Upon first entering the super-hero world, Peter created a utility belt that held extra clips of webbing, Spider-Tracers, and his Spider-Signal. He has, by today, upgraded his utility belt to hold cartridges of different types of webbing, new Spider-Tracers as well as a newly upgraded Spider-Signal that has a UV light setting for forensic analysis, along with all the various gadgets he has built over the years.
Web-Shooters
Parker's brilliance at physical science allowed him to create web-shooters for use when he became Spider-Man. The twin devices worn on his wrists are able to shoot thin strands of a special web fluid at high pressure and speeds.
Impact Web
The Impact Web has the same effect as multiple shots from the Web Shooter, except that it fires a more intense projectile, with greater momentum. Impact Web webs enemies faster; on most normal-sized enemies, this means being bound instantaneously. Shooting Impact Web on foes that position themselves by a wall surface, or ones that are not on their foot, will often result in easy webbed knockout.
Spider-Drone
The Spider-Drone gadget stuns enemies with a beam of electricity, rendering them defenseless for a short while, as the drone will head into waves and stun them at Spider-Man's request. It is helpful for fighting large groups of enemies.
Electric Web
The Electric Web shooter applies an electric charge on each web shot before firing. This electric charge can be used to power certain electronic conduits. In combat, when an enemy is tagged with an Electric Web shot, the enemy becomes stunned along with any other enemies within proximity for a limited time.
Web Bomb
Upon detonation, the Web Bomb explodes webs that trap nearby enemies. It is incredibly useful in big fights. Throwing a Web Bomb into large groups of enemies can tie up more than one of them, rendering them unable to fight back. Peter also have the option of throwing Web Bombs at groups stood next to walls, causing them to stick to them and instantly clearing out several threats.
Trip Mine
The Trip Mine gadget fires a small device that attaches to a wall or enemy, which upon detecting an enemy nearby, will hit them with a web and pull them towards one another, causing them to slam together. It is meant primarily for large groups of enemies.
Concussive Blast
The Concussive Blast emits a powerful sonic wave, causing nearby enemies to tumble backwards with great force. This is ideal for clearing rooftops or scaffolding of enemies, as it can send them flying over the edge, instantly knocking them out of combat. The gadget is also highly useful in situations where Spider-Man finds himself surrounded by a large number of enemies.
Suspension Matrix
When deployed, the Suspension Matrix creates a gravity field that affixes enemies into the air, leaving them helpless.
Spider-Tracers
Spider-Man uses small electronic "Spider-Tracers" of his own design that allow him to track objects or individuals. Typically, Spider-Man plants or throws one on a departing enemy and follows the target to their hideout. He also uses a launching device in his web-shooters for better range and accuracy. He originally used an electronic receiver to follow the signals of the tracers but later modified their signal so he can follow it with his spider-sense. He can follow the signal within a 100-yard radius. With the help of Horizon Lab's resources, Peter managed to make new and improved spider-tracers with listening devices, G.P.S. and camouflage.
Spider-Signal
A powerful light emitted from Spider-Man's utility belt to announce his arrival to criminals. Peter later updated his Spider-Signal with a UV light setting for forensic analysis.

Appearance

Physical Appearance:
With striking brown eyes and similarly brown, flowing (or messy, as some would put it) hair, Peter Parker can be considered to be a rather handsome man. Most people don't necessarily notice that, however, as his personality is typically the aspect at the forefront. That, or he's simply covering his face most of the time. Standing at 5'10" and weighing about 167 lbs, Peter is a normal man (aside from all the thwippy spider powers) who engages in fairly intense regular exercise. His job as Spider-Man keeps him plenty active and has thus maintained an athletic build ever since he first began to operate as the masked superhero. While looking athletic, he is still slim and light enough to perform his various acrobatics when swinging or in combat.
Clothing and Armor:
Spider-Man has obtained a variety of suits during his years as a superhero. While most are of his own design and build, some have been collaborations, primarily with Max Modell and Tony Stark, to modernize and upgrade his equipment. All of the suits have the basic but essential components and features. Every suit is unique in its own way, however, having certain augmentations and specializations for a particular purpose.
Advanced Suit
The Advanced Suit's design is based on athletic wear and compression clothing. The most prominent aspect of the suit that distinguishes it from other Spider-Man suits is the white spider symbol. While the suit retains the classic red and blue color scheme, it features a large white spider on the chest instead of the traditional black. The spider has long legs and ends at the thin blue piping of the suit. The shoes have also been modernized, now featuring a sneaker-style design instead of knee-high boots.
The suit is equipped with several technological expansions to increment its overall efficiency, having its own built-in camera, radio and communication systems. While wearing the costume, Spider-Man is also odor- and scent-free. Furthermore, the lenses of the suit's mask are expressive and can squint inwards as well as outwards. The lenses have a built-in AR heads-up display system, allowing Spider-Man to analyze his surroundings in great detail; he can also view his web fluid, his current health state, and global position.
In addition to technological enhancements, Peter has also further improved upon the material design of his Advanced Suit, with each of the comprising colors on the outfit actually representing something specific in functionality. The red part of the suit is made out of a reinforced and thicker material, providing Spider-Man some armor and protection, while the blue part adds flexibility. The white bits, which are positioned on his gauntlets, feet, and chest, are carbon fiber, and designed to absorb as much impact as possible, thus offering the most protection.
The Advanced Suit is Peter's latest and now most prominently used suit, having made it with the aid of Max Modell.
Classic Suit
This is the traditional suit that Spider-Man has used throughout his career. It is made from a skintight cloth. The costume is mostly blue with red gloves, boots, mid-section, and mask. Peter designed a web pattern that covers the red portions of the suit, starting at the mask. The suit also has a black spider in the center of the chest and a larger red spider on the back, both of different designs. The mask has plastic lenses with a chrome covering that allow Peter to see out, without letting others see in. The lenses also protect Peter's eyes from dust particles and the glare of the sun while he is swinging through the city. In addition, the mask helps to conceal Peter's identity by muffling his voice, thus making it unrecognizable to others. He also wears a twin set of web shooters on his wrists under the gloves.
Velocity Suit
A joint venture with Tony Stark, the Velocity Suit is a red and gray armored suit that includes unique looking silver visors on the eyes, as well as more defined plating and a glowing blue spider symbol that appears to glow in the dark. The suit is basically a complete overhaul of Spider-Man's previous armored suits, combining several aspects of the previous suits. The suit has four metallic arms, which extrude from the back of the suit to aid Spider-Man in combat. The arms match the suit's overall color scheme, with glowing accents to them. The suit is also fitted with unstable molecules, effectively making it fireproof.
The Velocity Suit can absorb much more damage than his other suits. The suit also allows Peter to use his momentum in order to increase his speed for a time. However, because of the suit being armored, it makes him less nimble than usual. It's Spider-Man's most powerful suit but due to his general distaste for armors in (Peter considers them to be too clunky), he wears it only when necessary.
Stealth Suit
The Stealth Suit is partially armored, with the upper torso being covered in a bulletproof vest while the hands are covered by a pair of fingerless gloves that leave Spider-Man's fingertips exposed. The face is covered by a black ski mask with the eyes being hidden behind a pair of goggles. The suit comes with a camo mode, which is its primary function. Camo mode gives Spider-Man the ability to be invisible to both visual and audio means except from certain lens and frequencies so allies can see and communicate with him.
As for mundane clothing, Peter doesn't exactly wow anyone with his fashion sense. His regular attire mostly consists of jeans, t-shirts (sometimes plaid and flannel shirts), a couple of nice jackets and sneakers. When in the lab, Peter typically puts on a lab coat over whatever he's wearing at that moment.
"Tell somebody you love them, or hit them, and you can't foresee all the possible consequences. You do "A" because it's a good thing. But "A" has consequence "B" which is a bad thing for somebody else. Sometimes I focus so much on what I'm doing right now to fix something, that I forget even bad guys have families."
Personality
Sexual Orientation:
Straight
General Personality:
Spider-Man is commonly seen as a brave and righteous hero with an indomitable sense of justice and responsibility. Shaken by his uncle's tragic death, Spider-Man's vow of responsibility has led him to a path of heroism and humanitarian service. There are times when Spider-Man's sense of responsibility can be almost overbearing; this is most evident when he feels responsible for something he didn't do. For example, would one of his villains break out of prison or some such, Peter would undoubtedly blame himself, despite having no relation to the incident besides his history with the villain. This combined with his strong moral compass in the face of adversity and sharp wit make him one of the most iconic and enduring heroes on the planet.
One of Spider-Man's most prominent traits is his sense of humor. He at times is seen as the class clown in every group he is in. Even in the face of certain death, Spider-Man invariably cracks a joke, to the annoyance of both friends and foes. His reasons for this vary: either he wants to relieve the stress of a situation, or simply because he wants to hide how scared he really is during a crisis. Also, he does this to get on the nerves of his opponents, since he knows that if they are angry, that they would normally lose themselves and be vulnerable to a superior skilled opponent. It is generally agreed, however, that whenever a life is in danger, he will stop telling jokes and take the current situation with the utmost seriousness.
Behind this humorous facade; however, is a wounded soul that has gone through much suffering. While Spider-Man is in combat, occasionally another person dies, leaving him depressed for having failed in his responsibility. Guilt over the loss of his Uncle Ben continues to be the primary motivating factor in his super-heroics and his life in general. Peter is quick to assume guilt and responsibility for anything bad that happens in his presence or that can, in some way, relate back to him. Death in particular is difficult for Peter to reconcile with, leading him to make dramatic and unrealistic proclamations. Spider-Man is also traditionally a loner. Due to his individualistic style, having been a social outcast in his youth, Spider-Man finds it hard to work in teams. However, this has gradually lessened over the years, to the point Spider-Man has worked actively with his fellow heroes and more prominently as a part of Horizon Labs.
Peter is also a strong willed hero, whatever obstacles that comes his way, if it's relationships, being misunderstood, or someone dying in his watch, he always gets back up. His indomitable will and don't give up attitude usually push him to do amazing feats. Despite being a hero, Spider-Man is nerdy, awkward, and shy. These traits have faded through the years as Parker grew up and gained confidence, but elements of the awkward teenage nerd still remain in his personality.
Peter's general demeanor and reputation as Spider-Man often make people forget that he is, in fact, a genius. Most definitely among the smartest people on the planet, Peter is a leading figure in Horizon Labs, next to Max Modell. In addition, his occasional team-ups with the Justice League have proven that he's a truly intelligent individual, helping the team out of several conundrums. Peter greatly values his intelligence and often considers the identity of Spider-Man to be a limited solution to the world's problems. While he has had struggles with his dual life in the past, that has nowadays faded a bit more, as he's grown accustomed to being both a superhero and a scientist. He sees the necessity for both and in true Parker nature, he will keep fighting on both fronts till the end.

Great Power
Peter Benjamin Parker was born in Queens to government agents Richard and Mary Parker. Peter's parents both died in a plane crash when he was still little. An orphaned Peter went to live with his uncle and aunt, Ben and May Parker, in Forest Hills, New York; they became Peter’s surrogate parents and raised him as if he were their own son. Their bond became unbreakable and the duo remained Peter's largest influences, as well as his most trusted sources of guidance. Over the next nine years, Parker grew to be extremely bright in science and became a high honors student at Midtown High School. During that time, Peter became best friends with Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn, forming a friendship that would last into his adulthood. Peter's fascination with science grew even further when he began to follow the career of Dr. Otto Octavius, an acclaimed scientist.
At 15-years-old, Peter attended a public exhibition demonstrating the safe handling of nuclear laboratory waste materials. During the demonstration, a radiation-infused spider wandered onto Peter, biting him. Making his way home afterwards, Peter was almost hit by a car. Instincts and reflexes kicked in and Peter managed to jump out of harm's way. The strange feeling just before the would-be collision and his quick reaction time struck Peter as odd. While he was no slouch, he hadn't always been the most athletic type either. At home, in the privacy of his room, Peter ran rudimentary tests on himself and after quick research and logical deduction, it was clear: the spider bite had messed with his physiology. It didn't take too long for the young web-head to figure out the variety of abilities he had, though he was still unsure what their upper limits were.
Needing to find a way to test out his abilities, Peter stumbled upon an ad offering a cash prize for staying in the ring for three minutes with professional wrestler Joseph "Crusher" Hogan. Despite there being numerous other ways to test himself, Pete decided in favor of wrestling. Certainly a choice. Well, despite being a genius, he had his moments of lacking. But the money couldn't hurt, so there he went. Peter fashioned a crude outfit for himself, primarily for the purpose of wearing a mask to avoid potential embarrassment in case he lost the match. And in case anyone would somehow recognize him. Calling himself "The Spider," Peter managed to easily defeat his opponent. "The Spider" became famous overnight. The mystique surrounding his alter-ego persuaded Peter to begin building his first proper suit and web-shooters, believing that he could do more with his abilities than simply wrestle for money. That said, Peter's vision of using his abilities teetered more on the verge of recklessness than benevolence.
Great Responsibility
Peter's development of his spider gear went through several rocky patches. The creations either didn't work or worked just enough to give him hope and then fall apart. He wanted to be a big shot superhero, as well as bask in the stardom that came with it. His lofty ambitions and little care for anything else but grandeur culminated when, one day, Peter allowed a mugger to run past him without using his abilities to stop the mugger, deciding it was "not his problem". The criminal would go on to be confronted by Ben, who attempted to defuse the situation. Instead, he was fatally shot and left to die on the street, with nobody intervening and Peter in shock, as he held his dying uncle in his hands. Ben could utter only a few parting words. It was the moment that changed Peter's very being. The following months were Hell on Earth. The guilt almost consumed him, if it weren't for May. It was their lengthy discussion that set Peter on his true path.
Taking the lesson uncle Ben once taught him, that "With great power comes great responsibility", to heart, Peter vowed to use his powers for good. He finally completed his suit proper. One with a red and blue pattern, designed with a spider web in mind. He began calling himself "Spider-Man," a name that would catch on fairly quickly. As New York's newest hero, he helped to stop petty crimes across the city and gained a reputation for either being a menacing vigilante or a savior to the people. Peter's superhero career would start with facing the likes of Vulture, Lizard, Scorpion, and Electro. But that was merely the start of the formation of his impressive rogues' gallery.
With the little free time he had, Peter also took up photography (thought Aunt May wanted him to become a scientist), eventually landing a job as a freelancer with the Daily Bugle assigned to take pictures of Spider-Man in action, under the condition that the publicist would not ask Peter how he took the pictures. While the job brought in money, his pictures were often used in J. Jonah Jameson's smear campaign against the web-head. Peter's relationship with Mary-Jane and Harry also remained, although slightly strained, as Peter was trying to juggle everything in his life. It was a clear hindrance to the emerging romantic feelings Peter and MJ had for one another.
ESU
Peter's education developed in its logical footsteps, with him enrolling in Empire State University after graduation. That, however, only complicated things further in his life. He was facing more dangerous foes, as well as working towards what he really wanted to do. This was enforced by his first proper meeting with Doctor Otto Octavius, who was impressed with Peter's intellect and shortly after offered him a research assistant position. Peter initially declined, finding that it would be too much, as much as it pained him to say so. He would come around much sooner than expected, however.
Electro was perhaps considered one of Peter's most dangerous foes. A being with potent superpowers, he was typically difficult to take down. And to have him stay down. This was doubly enforced by a killing spree the villain had perpetrated and while Spider-Man finally managed to best him, the damage was done. The story was sensationalized by JJJ, who used Peter's pictures of Spider-Man to put the blame on him, instead of the obvious villain. Peter's tenure at the Daily Bugle had faced many obstacles, but that was the final straw. He wouldn't stand being branded a murderer. As such, Peter promptly quit his position and left the prestigious news outlet with a bitter taste. Luckily, he had the olive branch he had previously turned down.
Octavius was more than delighted to welcome Peter into the fold and the two began a prosperous friendship, with the man being the scientific mentor Peter had always dreamed of. His relationship with MJ also went to the next level, with the duo making it official. Though the difficulty of hiding his identity as Spider-Man was the indirect source of many of their arguments. Peter had been Spider-Man for a respectable amount of time, but it was clear that it was becoming perhaps more than he could handle. And then there was the part of him that had become truly alive through being Spider-Man. It shouldn't have been a difficult dilemma to overcome, yet...
So he was left with a self-proposed ultimatum: quit the hero business, or let MJ in on the secret.
After a period of deliberation, during which Peter conducted a "test run" where he didn't perform any superheroics, Peter decided to tell his girlfriend that he was the web slinger. She took it better than he expected, but she still wasn't entirely sure what it meant for their future. At least she was game to figuring it out and she felt, for the first time, that their relationship was as open and well-communicated as it could be, given the circumstances. It was a point of great change in Peter's life, but given its developments, it is a period he still treasures fondly.
Back In Black
With his Spider-Man career well underway and a renewed sense of purpose, Peter continued his dual life. His continuing tenure with Octavius was indeed a dream come true, however their operations at Octavius Industries relied on grants. Unless they had something to show, and soon, they were at risk of no funding and would have to disband. Otto, being a man of contingencies and backup plans, was prepared. Unbeknownst to Peter, Otto was developing a neurological disorder, which would gradually cause him to lose motor function. To alleviate this, he had been working and perfecting prosthetic limb tech to give him a set of new limbs. Consisting of four back-mounted tentacles, with multipurposed claws at the end of each one and a neural transmitter attached to the back of his head, Octavius could make himself mobile better than ever before. Because of the neural interface, he could manipulate these arms by mere thought.
It was a lot to dump on Peter at once. The young scientist felt somewhat betrayed, his mentor seemingly not trusting him enough to reveal such information or ask for his help. But Otto was a proud man. He didn't want to ask for permanent outside funding or medical treatment. Which he definitely should have done instead of making four massive, insidious looking tentacle arms. But... live and learn? Octavius also wanted to get the arms done enough before he would show them to Peter, afraid that its concept alone would dissuade the youngster from helping him. He wasn't wrong. Despite being impressed by the technology, Peter admitted that it wasn't the first option he would have thought about. Regardless, he went all in. The arms had incredible potential of helping others with similar disorders, not to mention their possible application in various industries.
The technology was good enough to please an overseeing committee, granting Octavius Industries with enough money to keep the research going. Shortly after the demonstration, as the duo kept working out its kinks, an accident damaged the interface on Octavius. They paused research, giving Otto time to recover, but Peter sensed something different about his mentor as he recovered. He kept his suspicions on what the damaged chip could have done to himself for the time being. The wrong choice in the long run, as Peter was about to experience a sizable change of his own.
Spider-Man was on night patrol, when he sighted a small meteor crashing in Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. Being quick to the scene, onlookers had already gathered, whom Peter quicky had scatter. Initially seeing nothing wrong, he was shortly proven wrong as a blob of black goo attached to him faster than he could react. An uncomfortable sensation followed, as a reaction occurred and enveloped Peter in his entirety. Then, he lost control of his entire body, as this alien being took the drivers seat and began moving towards Manhattan. As he tried to gain back control, Peter noticed that he was producing webs of his own, no gadget necessary. His speed was also much greater. A strange feeling, being a passenger in your own body, yet there was something impressive about this organism's capabilities. Landing atop a skyscraper, Peter finally managed to push his will through and regain control.
The sun began to rise, letting Peter know that passage of time was distorted while he wasn't in control. As he examined himself, he saw how his suit had changed and heard faint whispers. Instead of feeling like he was going crazy, it felt strangely apt. The symbiote and Peter had bonded incredibly quickly, with the organism being content with its host almost immediately. He ran more tests on himself after, keeping this a secret from MJ, as he wasn't sure what this meant for him as Spider-Man. The powers the symbiote granted were nothing short of astounding. He was more effective than ever before, constantly energized and easily besting his villains both old and new, like Shocker, Sandman, and Tinkerer. However, Peter didn't notice that he was becoming increasingly more reckless, egotistical, and callous. The symbiote had become truly bonded to him, exceptionally in tune with Peter's mind, even the emotions that were typically buried.
This became especially evident when Peter's ruthlessness came to the forefront. He didn't only defeat his adversaries, he came increasingly closer to actually killing them. Spider-Man's "menace" status got a new breath of life, as his villains were terrified of him and JJJ's conviction in his beliefs was proven to be right. The news and rumors reached MJ quickly, with the two getting into a heated argument about, once again, secrets and Peter's change in attitude. His anger and hate amplified by the symbiote, Peter ended their relationship, claiming to not need MJ since she was only a distraction from being who he wanted to be. MJ concurred, as she had felt for a long while that she wasn't being trusted enough and that Peter didn't consider her an equal. Peter didn't have time for it and she was furious enough to agree.
For a time, Peter worked alone, thwarting crime by almost any means necessary. He then met Felicia Hardy, Black Cat, a master thief and someone whose motivations were unclear. What was abundantly evident, though, was her immediate infatuation with Peter. She of course knew of Spider-Man, but it was this version that truly drew her to him. The two had a brief relationship, though even that is a loaded term for what they had. Peter also continued to work on Otto's arms, now willing to take the necessary risks he was averse to before. He and Octavius perfected the technology, something Peter would also come to regret down the line.
Everything culminated when Spider-Man was facing off against a returning Scorpion, only to be ambushed by some of his other villains and, most surprisingly of all, Octavius. Damage to his neural interface had permanently changed his thought patterns and bringing forth aspects of him he previously kept subdued. Peter couldn't see the similarities then, but would later. The symbiote helped Peter easily dispatch his foes, aside from Otto. Peter's surprise, shock, and increasing regret began to overpower the symbiote's parasitic nature. His fight against Octavius was more difficult than expected with that factor. Peter's own willpower fighting against the symbiote's control coupled with the realization that his mentor broke bad made it all the more surprising that the web-head actually survived the encounter, much less win. As Octavius lay only marginally defeated, he revealed his knowledge of Peter's identity.
The range of intense emotions enveloping Peter made it difficult to properly confront Otto. But he mustered enough strength to express his regret and disappointment, which his mentor used as tools to try and manipulate Peter further. Having had enough of outside influences coercing him into doing things he knew were wrong, Peter's will took over. In a painful process, in front of the man he worshipped, Spider-Man physically ripped the symbiote off himself. Hearing its screams felt as if his eardrums were about to explode. His pleas for help went unanswered. Peter knew better. He had to. And he succeeded. He had successfully rid himself of the alien organism, but didn't manage to contain it, as it was too swift for a recovering Peter to catch. Spider-Man wouldn't have to wait too long to encounter the symbiote again, however.
Octavius was handed over to the authorities, his arms removed and Octavius Industries dissolved. No prison could keep Doc Ock though, as Peter learned that he had escaped a few months later through the aid of other villains. His whereabouts remain currently unknown.
Catching him would have to wait, as Spider-Man had amends to make. The damage he had caused was more than what could be fixed in a month. Peter's resolve was high enough to keep him going. The first person he had to reach, was MJ. Hearing him out, she appreciated what he had to say, but decided to stay split. She needed time and he needed to clean up his messes. She had her own life to get in order and unless Peter did the same, they didn't have a future. It was one of the more painful days in Peter's life. But he understood, because he had to. It was the least he could do for her.
His tryst with Black Cat also ended shortly after. Largely because Felicia was more interested in Peter being Spider-Man than anything else. She didn't want to deal with an ordinary person when she was anything but. It was the excitement, the risk that drew her. Regular Spider-Man was too safe. Peter was somewhat relieved, though still considers Felicia to be a valuable ally and someone he continues to try to have go legit. Time would tell if that could actually work.
Maximum Carnage
Peter was perhaps the loneliest he had been in years. He had to pick up the pieces and fix what he had messed up. Public perception of him was mixed more than usual and it took a while to build his reputation back to where it was. As was the case with the so-called "Parker luck," that would come in the form of two deadly foes, unlike any Spider-Man had ever faced.
The symbiote soon found a new home in Eddie Brock, finding him to be an equally suitable host as Peter was, if more... robust. As the two bonded, the symbiote's lingering memories of his previous host and the emotions attached made Spider-Man an immediate target. The two fought numerous times, with Peter eventually learning who the symbiote was attached to and henceforth tried to persuade Eddie to be an ally. A useless endeavor, at first. The web-head was also fueled by his own guilt and caution, as he knew firsthand what the symbiote was like, even if it manifested differently in various hosts. Peter saw Eddie as someone he could perhaps "save" and make amends with to satisfy his own shortcomings. It, naturally, wasn't that easy. Venom and Spider-Man continued to clash, with Peter continuing to try and persuade him to see another way.
That wish came to be in a period, where a part of Venom latched itself onto Cletus Kasady, birthing the murderous Carnage. Far more deadly than Venom and with no remorse, Carnage immediately proved to be perhaps Spider-Man's most dangerous enemy. He seemingly had a counter to everything Peter could throw at him and was unpredictable enough to make Peter feel like he may not be able to beat him. Aid came in the form of Venom, who saw Carnage as a failed portion of himself and couldn't let him run amok. Taking down Carnage was a difficult ordeal, with several other heroes aiding Spider-Man and Venom in the process. Though it was ultimately the duo that took him down, even if they didn't manage to actually contain him, leaving Carnage to lick his wounds but still be at large. A part of the story that JJJ desperately clung onto.
Spider-Man and Venom retained their unlikely peace agreement for a time, until Venom saw Peter as the main threat once again. However, Eddie was now enough in control to tame the symbiote's lethal urges, meaning that Venom and Spider-Man could occasionally look past one another and team up when needed. Still, Peter keeps Venom in his periphery at all times, almost always prepared for a potential "betrayal."
Beyond The Horizon
Miraculously, during these formative and dense years of Peter's life, he managed to graduate ESU. His scientific career had taken a backseat after Otto's turn to the dark and Peter's own struggles with his identity and foreign forces. Luckily for him, he was noticed by Max Modell, who had been following his career for a time and took the opportunity to hire him at Horizon Labs. His work under Octavius was sure to come in handy and Modell was going to make sure that a mind like Parker's wouldn't go to waste. Peter's scientific career finally managed to take a properly stable course, where he could do the work without the fear of any of his peers turning into gimmick supervillains. He had enough of those and more were still popping up. It really was a circus ensemble.
Through plenty of lengthy discussions and work, Peter and MJ also managed to rekindle their relationship, with both laying everything on the table as a sign of full trust. Both had matured and experienced enough for their relationship to truly flourish. The couple became partners in more ways than one, with MJ helping Peter in investigative endeavors and proving Peter wrong by successfully overcoming situations he previously didn't trust her enough to handle.
Peter Parker's life has been through many trials and tribulations, many of which were his own doing. But that has only bolstered his resolve to to good, to prove himself capable of protecting everyone he possibly can. Even with his many experiences and years of work, Spider-Man continues to be a learner and someone who will always try to fight for those who can't always fight for themselves. A champion of the people, a brilliant scientist, a alright boyfriend, Peter is a man who occasionally stumbles, but always picks himself up, because that's what a hero does.
Role Play Sample:
Ah, the musky, polluted smell of New York City. Nothing like it. Sure, it was disappointingly harming to the environment and... well, disgusting, but it was the smell of home to Peter. Exhaust gases from every vehicle and building imaginable, the murky waters of the Hudson, it all screamed New York. But nothing did that more than the citizens going about their lives on those streets. Watching over them was an incredible privilege, something that Spider-Man just enjoyed doing every once in a while. Sitting on a ledge, seeing life go by in its standard rhythm. It was a reminder that he should take it all in more often. It was also a reminder that these citizens sometimes needed someone to look out for them, as capable as most of them were by default.
While New York was a hotbed for heroes and villains alike, too many of them were focused on the big threats. The sweeping alien invasions and unexplainable phenomena. Few took the time to look down and see the swaths of people getting caught in the crossfire. Peter didn't blame them. Those flying faster than the speed of sound and vigilantes with immeasurable wealth at their disposal were bound to focus on what could potentially end life for all. So he was glad to take up the part that was sometimes vacant. To be the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
As soon as he finished that thought, he heard a police report of the Shocker in the midst of a robbery. Tailor-made for Peter's capabilities. He smirked under his mask, standing up from the ledge he was sitting on and launching himself between the numerous skyscrapers of the city in his known acrobatic fashion.
"Tsk tsk, Herman. What a Shocker."
As he cast his first web, Peter breathed a sigh of disappointment. Not his finest material.
"Glad nobody heard that."
Finishing his mutterings, Spider-Man went on to do what he was best at: swinging and stopping crooks. It sure was awesome to be Spider-Man sometimes. Well, most of the time.
