Background:
Before The Eye[/u]
Much of Lyse's past is still….fuzzy to her, a job gone wrong having altered her memories before joining The Eye. What she has pieced together of that time is that she was a low-born from the royal city who showed great promise in magic after visions of the future began to appear in her dreams, allowing her to choose. Stay at her current station, never to amount to much more than a servant, or leave her family and friends behind to train in magic under a man who she only remembers as "The Scribe". Lyse chose the latter. For the most part, Lyse only remembers the broad strokes of this early part of her life; she grew up poor but her visions caught the attention of nobility at the age of 43, quite young to leave home for a High Elf. She then moved up under the wing of The Scribe, studying language in tandem with practicing divination, learning to control and focus the mostly rampant magical power. This was her life for the better part of a half century before The Scribe taught her the basics of illusion magic to help give her something to round out her skills for when she leaves the nest.
It was around the time she left the royal city that her memories began to clear up again, though many names were simply lost, the few that remain well...you’ll see. Around the age of 113, The Scribe sent her off to meet an old friend of his at a Mage College, someone who could help Lyse better than him with her divination, and real world experience would of course do her some good. This was when her life took a very abrupt and violent turn for the worse. Finding herself in the City of Mages, a young and impressionable Elf; innocent, naive, anxious, and a bit awkward, the world was her oyster. She was to begin her studies under the tutelage of The Scribe’s acquaintance there, we’ll call him Teacher. Teacher was never much for actually...teaching, his own preconceptions about gender were a bit backwards, often believing that Lyse was only good for doing his errands…..she really wasn’t having it. It was three years later when she received the news….the Royal CIty had been well...locked. A wall of magic surrounded it, and there seemed to be no weakness, no way in or out, Lyse was trapped out of her home, trapped with a teacher who saw her only as a maid, trapped with no one to help her. With nowhere else to turn, all of her people from the Royal City in similar situations as her, she decided to speak with the head of The College, a Gnomish woman who Lyse remembers as The Doll. Unknowing of how shrewd she was, Lyse asked The Doll for help with her Teacher problem. The Doll is a famously shrewd woman who absolutely loves making deals, Lyse was just the sort who she loves to “help” with their problem. From there, The Doll sent Lyse to speak with a man she would come to know as the leader of The Eye, King Sage. Sage turned out to be a very interesting man, he was crass, violent, loud, a drunk, terrifying, and likely one of the smartest people Lyse has ever met, definitely the first who had shown her any sort of kindness since her arrival in the City of Mages only three years ago, but it wasn’t till years later that she realized this little fact. Here’s the problem, The Doll simply told Lyse to search forSage and ask for a job...she never actually told Lyse what this would entail, but Lyse was so desperate and in need of work, her funds running dry months ago, and her intellectual side craved mental stimulation that Teacher simply could not, and would not, ever provide. Sage told Lyse that working with The Eye was dangerous work, and not one for a soft Elf girl like her, she should look somewhere else and keep living. Unperturbed and assuming this was hyperbole, Lyse insisted several times, insisting for days even. Finally giving in to the stubborn Elf, he tells her to go out into the City of Mages and bring back the names of the three biggest criminals, and he tells her to get into a fight….and lose, lose to the point of needing medical attention, she needed to understand the type of work she was getting into…..at the time she didn’t have many other options. Oh, and she had two weeks.
Joining The Eye
This was it, she was moving forward, she was going to become a part of this Eye group and help….protect the city? Sage was very vague about that, mostly telling her that she would need to pass his test before they moved forward. First things first, she needed a new place to live. There was an inn that she knew of called The Half-Moon, the proprietor gave her a room in exchange for doing a bit of work that night. This was where Lyse met Tawny, the ever so flirty bartender of the Half-Moon who loved to tease Lyse and see her wriggle and squirm under the attention. In Elven society, you don’t usually start down the road of romance until the 120’s or later, and even so it was always a very long and drawn out courtship that could take decades or more, Lyse was currently 116 and had never had the inclination to be flirty or romantic back home, she didn’t have the time for it back then either, so this attention was very very new and confusing for the girl. Needless to say, while flattering and sweet, Lyse did her best to turn the woman down, this seemed to be what Tawny expected, but she always teased Lyse when the opportunity arose, it was a nice distraction from the thought of “where do I even begin to find criminals?” that was running through her mind, her only answer….find the roughest bar in town.
The bar in question, after a bit of investigation, turned out to be called The Snake Nest as it was the favored bar for a small time gang “The Slithering Six” which was….six tough guys who had a bit of a tie to a larger gang run by a man named Swain Sweets, the tie in was Sweets’ son, Sen. It was well known in the city that many High Elves were trapped away from home, unable to make ends meet….and Sweets was taking advantage of this, seemed to be a perfect candidate for Lyse. One down, two to go? This was where Lyse ran into the Beatniks, a rougher group run by a man called Beater, they weren’t big enough to interest Sage...but maybe they could be useful. This was where Lyse first dipped her toes into undercover work, pretending to be a mage in need of some coin, which was at least partially true, she asked if they would like to have her help in any way, and they happened to have the perfect job for her, using her divination magic to discern if there were any weapons with magical properties among a stash they had recently stolen. Easy stuff. Lyse did this for a few days, keeping her ear to the ground for anyone else of interest for her job, and she was making money! The Sweets Gang seemed to be the biggest name in town right now, in fact it was so suddenly powerful that a lot of the underground were growing more and more worried about them, what were they even doing? No one could quite tell, but Sweets wasn’t a name you dropped casually anymore. This caught Sage’s ear now, he had been out of the city for a while, Sweets taking up root in those scant two or so years….but they didn’t seem to be doing anything with illegal magic.
While doing work for the Beatniks, their group was attacked by one of the Slithering Six, a brutish man called Cottonmouth Joe, most often called Cotton, he was infamous for brutalizing mages that got in his way. In a moment of panic while the fight began, Lyse’s first ever, she found herself in his clutches, the mountain of a man choking her out with one hand around her neck, the only thing Lyse could do was let go…..and as she did, the powerful divination at her fingertips pulled information from Cotton, the word ‘mage’ appearing in her head, Lyse uncontrollably began living his memories of his encounters with mages. The things she saw, the things she lived, the things she did locked in the mind of a murderer for that eternal minute, years of memories in just sixty seconds or so. It dropped both of them, Cotton having a backlash of information from Lyse poured into his mind, the next time Lyse awoke she was in an unfamiliar place, one of Beater’s boys pulling her unconscious body out while they all fled the scene. She awoke, her mind blurred with her memories, and those from Cotton….they felt so wrong, she felt like she needed to clean herself head to toe over and over and over again, blood that had never been on her hands just wouldn’t wash away! It was a feeling that left Lyse feeling sick, and as soon as she found herself back at the Half-Moon, she took to the cups to drown the memories away. Of course Tawney took notice, ever talkative Lysendra was silent, just drinking, her eyes looking like there were tears threatening that just would not be freed. Lyse drank. The bar closed early that night, Lyse entering the warm and gentle care of Tawny, the woman’s flirting and teasing ended for that night, just letting Lyse finally cry and let out the torrent of pain that had invaded the girl’s mind, never even truly understanding what it was that caused Lyse so much pain, she simply listened and helped her as best she could, making sure that she was safe, she was there when Lyse needed a light in her life. When she woke in Tawny’s arms, fully dressed still, the harsh feeling in her throat from the sobs that lulled her to bed, her head pounding from the hangover, she found herself more embarrassed than nervous, but the woman told her “I’ve been there, the whole world is against you, and you have no one to hold you….I couldn’t watch someone be alone through that like I was” she kissed Lyse’s cheek and went to getting ready for work, leaving Lyse confused with her feelings.
After the previous day’s misadventure, she wasn’t keen on diving back into all of that...but she had to, right? She went to see Sage, he was seemingly expecting her, word going around that Swain had been seeking out mages, might be something they could catch him for “I didn’t expect you to do this well, girl. In fact, didn’t think you’d even do anything but turn tail n’ run. Welcome to The Eye, Lyse” She was taken to a safehouse of his, Sage explaining that every member of The Eye had a tattoo, this tattoo was imbued with magic and allowed one to see through obscuring things; mist, darkness, some illusions, etc. the only catch was that it needed to be visible, so pick somewhere inconspicuous, but accessible, Lyse chose the back of her neck where her hair would be hiding it. Once at the safehouse, she met two other members of The Eye. Dame Red, and Sir Black. They dubbed Lyse, Lady Blue. The tattoo was more painful than she expected, maybe it was due to the magic...or maybe due to the lack of experience with any sort of lasting pain like this….either way, it was hard for Lyse to bear it without the odd groan or stifled exclamation of pain. He gave Lyse a few things to read over, telling her that she had a month to prepare for her first job, she was to infiltrate the Sweets Gang to find out for sure if the rumors were true, and what he was buying up mages for. They needed to catch him in the act, and she’d need to be careful, take these few weeks to plan. Lyse was not sure she was ready...but she could pull the pin at any time she felt the danger was too great…now to find out if she was a coward or not.
The First Mission, First Love
One month, she had one month to prepare, plan, and maybe relax for at least a day? Lyse hurried back to the Half-Moon, immediately going to the bar and loudly proclaiming “I want to take you out” directed at Tawny. The woman was silent, and then laughed for much longer than Lyse was comfortable with for her first time asking someone out, but all was not lost, the laughter subsided and Tawny eagerly agreed. This was the first moment of happiness that Lyse let herself enjoy, there was no hiding the smile that erupted on her face with that answer. However, the awkward mess that she was, Lyse fumbled with her words and ended up rushing to her room in a flash of black hair and red cheeks. That night was nothing short of amazing, Tawny made Lyse feel special, safe, and most importantly she made her feel happy. Needless to say, Lyse began to fall for her immediately, their relationship falling into place like pieces of a puzzle. Maybe it was the circumstances, maybe she was just looking for that ray of light, but she wanted it and enjoyed every moment. Her mission looming, Lyse knew they would be separated for possibly quite a while, something she made sure to explain to the woman. "As long as you come back to me in one piece, don't make me start to fall for you and then die on me" They laughed, they enjoyed themselves, they fell into one another wholly and fully.
The next few weeks were a whirlwind. Lyse spent the majority of her time studying info that Sir Black had procured from his surveillance of known associates of Sweets, as well as the various properties the man seemed to own. There was a lot to absorb, but she was confident she could do it, especially knowing she had someone waiting for her to come back. Tawny made sure to make good use of the free time that Lyse had, taking advantage of every moment to shower her precious Elven lover with affection, and always reminding Lyse to come back. Two days out, it was time to get the final preparation done, and the first thing on the agenda was the one Lyse was most dreading. Cutting and dyeing her hair. The likelihood that she would run into Cotton was too high, and Lyse wasn't good enough with her illusions yet to maintain a change like that, so Lyse cut her precious hair quite short, and went blonde. Devastated as she was, there was no shortage of enjoyment from Tawny and her "super spy girlfriend" comments. Silver linings. Those were short lived though, because the next thing they knew, it was time for the mission to begin. A heartfelt goodbye, a farewell kiss, and Lyse was off.
Leaving everyone behind, Lyse now under the guise of a woman named Sarina Sunshard, she moved in on her first target, the only son of the gang lord, Sen Sweets. It wasn't too hard to track him down, finding him at his gang's bar enjoying his evening, a fine place for her to sidle up to him and try her hand at using her womanly wiles (thank you for the tips Tawny darling) and use that as a point of ingress. As it turned out, this was both harder and easier than Lyse expected. One, Sen was a very very shy type, the Slithering Six more of a bodyguard group than anything, unbeknownst to most. However, his father was monstrously abusive, and often paired the abuse with affection. The moment Lyse spoke to him in a soft sultry voice "I'd love to buy you a drink" he tensed and looked petrified...yet there was no denial, he didn't ask her to leave, he even seemed a bit interested. The two talked, Lyse(Sarina) testing the waters every so often with a playful touch of his knee or shoulder, each time making him tense and go back into his shell, it was pretty cute actually. As the night drew to a close, Sen actually invited his new companion back home with him, and that sealed the deal. She was in.
The Sweets Gang
From here out, Lyse was all but cut off from the rest of The Eye, only her preparation to keep her safe, and a one off 'emergency beacon' that she'd been given as a last resort if things got too hairy, but she was determined to not use the thing. Sweets owned a few large properties across the city, his son having a manor of his own that was more or less a prison. Every one of the servants answered to his father, every guard, every person there but Lyse, and she wondered if he saw her as some sort of test sent by his father to see if his resolve would hold against the temptations of a woman. As she came to learn from Sen, Swain believed himself some sort of messiah, born of divine mandate with no mother or father (that was….a strange revelation to be sure) and believed women were fit only to be breeding stock, attempting to instill in his son to never trust a woman for any reason. However Sen was an inquisitive and soft soul, having the unfortunate luck of who his father is (Sun only knows what happened to the mother) it also broke her heart in two when she realized…..well she was exactly the sort that Swain was trying to 'protect' Sen from, but she had a job to do, no matter what moral implications came to mind.
The first few days undercover were very lackluster, consisting mostly of doting on Sen and helping him be more at ease with her presence, as well as giving small affections to ease his anxiety at physical contact. It was really cute how he would blush and go stiff as a board before realizing it was just her, there was nothing to worry about with Sarina after all, she was just a fanciful Elf who caught his eye and enjoyed his company. It was near the end of the first week that she caught wind of anything out of the ordinary, Sen receiving a message that seemed to be about a delivery of something important, and his father required him to attend. He asked that she stay in his room till he returned, not sure how safe she was with his father's people around, his room being one of the few where they needed permission to enter. Seeing as she was unable to persuade him to let her join, she abided and waited for him to return….and she waited, and waited, his room holding nothing of interest for work, but Lyse discovered that he had quite the love for history, nearly every book on his shelves a history book of some sort or another. It was dusk by the time Sen entered the room again, and he looked far worse for wear than he had prior to leaving. His father had caught wind of this Elf who had taken his son's attention, and he had to deliver punishment upon the boy for lacking in his work. Seems someone had spoken to Swain about the sudden appearance of Sarina at Sen's side, troublesome, not only that but Lyse found herself more worried about Sen than herself. Perhaps it was her maturity level, being a bit young for an Elf...it seemed she wasn't fully prepared to pretend to be interested in him, she was actually starting to like him, that could be a problem, but she'd deal...right?
From that day, she was far more careful when interacting with Sen outside of his room, acting as his personal attendant, taking "notes'' for him and such. This worked well, she used this as a cover to write down the layout of the building in code, useful for later down the road she hoped. There was scant little that seemed to be going on with the Sweets gang, at least aa far as her organization was concerned...what magical contraband did they have? What did they need mages for? It seemed like they had followed a false lead, the whole operation seeming to be a failure, until the day Sen and Sarina were called to Swain's manor. Compared to Sen's, which was a front for storing mass amounts of illegally imported wine as it turned out, Swain's was practically a compound that a military might have trouble taking, the outer wall only the first of several mundane security measures, the magical ones even more complex. If she was going to find anything, it would be here. It felt like an eternity making their way up to the house proper, being checked out at both walls, as well as patted down at the door (extensively for Sarina) where they entered to see many of Swain’s “top brass” had also been summoned, whatever this was, it was big. They all seemed to be just waiting, everyone else was as lost on why they were summoned as Sen and Sarina were, she was mostly concerned with staying inconspicuous for the time being. There was not much waiting, the gang lord making a grand entrance by slamming the doors at the top of the stairs open “well well, look at this sorry rabble. Y’all must be wonderin’ what’s goin’ on.” his top brass were asked to join him, and the various entourages were asked to wait below. Taking this opportunity, Lyse decided to move about stealthily. Excusing herself to the bathroom, she used illusions to change her appearance and be one of the house staff. She began walking the halls, peeking in rooms to see if any seemed like they held anything interesting, she quickly figured out that anything actually important would be more well hidden than that. It was just her luck that most of the focus was on the main hall, she closed herself into one of the side hall rooms, and began to cast. Divination spells were often more involved for the caster, Lyse sitting on the floor while focusing her divination prowess into searching the house for other magical signatures. For the most part there wasn’t much that screamed out at her, but there was something extremely powerful in the rooms directly above and below the room Swain had called his people into. Though she couldn’t tell what it was, or what it did, it was definitely magical in nature...now the problem was getting there.
There was little she could do now, so for now she returned to the main group, dropping the illusions changing her appearance, and acting as though she simply had a bad meal that kept her indisposed for longer than she wished. Lyse was distracted for the rest of the evening, trying to figure out a way to regain entrance to Swain’s compound, hell it was difficult enough as it was to leave this one without an escort, time to plan. It was odd that only now did she feel like she was truly in over her head. As far as plans went, the best one she could come up with was to use illusions to make her way out of the house, and sneak her way across the city towards Swain’s compound, not an easy feat...but it was definitely in her wheelhouse. When Sen fell asleep, she snuck out and tried her hand at invisibility. From what she could tell, there was far more of a distortion than she wanted...but it’d do in darkness. It was absolutely terrifying, every time she made the slightest sound she thought she was dead, every time there was a person around she was convinced that they somehow knew she was there, her anxiety was off the charts with paranoia. It was nearly an hour of painstakingly slow moving before she was finally out and onto the streets, dropping her invisibility once she was a fair bit away from the manor, and trekked on to Swain’s compound.
It was pushing the limits of her magic, but she managed to infiltrate the compound and find her way to the large room that was between the two magic sources. As she had guessed, there were magic circles across the ceiling and floor, very intricate ones, if she was right….they were teleportation based? She spent a few moments using magic to read the aura, confirming her suspicions. She very quickly decided it was time to leave and get info to the Sage, however in her haste on her way out she ran smack dab into Cotton "well, little Elflet. Yer Sen's squeeze aye? Whatcha doin' here eh?" He guided her back towards the house with his massive hand on the back of her neck "let's go see the boss n' find out how you got in" terror, panic, absolute fear as she was brought back to the room with the magic circles, the confusion was palpable, there was no way out! She found the little arcane emergency beacon in her pocket and activated it just as they stepped into the circle, the light of the powerful magic activating with whatever ‘key’ Cotton had on him, blinding Lyse and then…..white. All she remembered next was white, like the purest blanket of snow across a flat plain. There was nothing, it was nothing, infinite nothingness that she could make no sense of and she was lost in. Lyse was gone.
The Vision of The City
After the whiteness was the vision. There was chaos and order, emptiness and fullness, war and peace, hate and love, everything and nothing. A man pulling the strings, a group protecting those they could, and she saw herself searching….for something? What was she searching for? Like a car crash it all came down around her like a bad dream, Lyse shooting up in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room. Where was she? Was she dead? No, she couldn’t be dead. When she pulled herself back together, she noticed a note by her bed...it was in her handwriting? It was...a letter to herself....
Lyse,
I know this must be confusing...but this is... was the best course of action. You (we) will figure out what to do to fix the mistakes I made. I don’t know when you’ll wake up, or really where you’ll wake up, but you’ll be safe. Safer than you were, safe from the problems that fell in the wake of the Sweets Catastrophe. For me it has been five years, I’ve spent most of it in physical therapy, studying up on magic and recording my thoughts in journals for you, the memories will start to come back in a few days. The City of Mages is lost, not gone...not destroyed, it is lost, I’ve not spoken to anyone who knows where it was nor where it went, perhaps you can find our home and return to Tawny like we promised….just remember she loves us...you….follow the vision. Sage has told me he’ll set up everything you’ll need with another branch of The Eye, trust in yourself, I do.
Love
Lysendra Farsight
P.S. Don’t freak out about the tattoo(s)
She had a long cry after reading the letter, and once that was done...it was time to get to work. She tore through the journals sleeplessly, regaining her mind and filling in the gaps that she could. What she knew was whatever happened to her with Sweets was still echoing in her mind and she was still very much healing. Her home was once more gone, cast adrift in some strange city that eluded reality, yet drew all in? There was a branch of The Eye here researching just that phenomenon, and she was here as a part of it all, masquerading as a seer with her shop The Cobalt Clairvoyant. It was her new life, and it was time to settle in for as long as it would take to find her love and find her home again.
Appearance
Profile:
Description:Lyse, as many elves are, is; tall, slender, fair skinned, graceful, etc. Standing at around 6 ft tall, but weighing barely over 120lbs, the elven form being much lighter than humans or otherwise, one might be mildly surprised when picking her up to find her so light. She’s got a slender build with modest ‘assets’ as some might call them, one may be more likely to turn when she leaves if you catch my meaning, of course Lyse is an attractive woman who often leaves an impression. Her features are soft to look upon; clear pale skin, luscious red lips, soft and somewhat dreamy sapphire blue eyes that look a bit...older, more weathered than she does.
Lyse sports a floral tattoo adorns her left shoulder and down along her left side, becoming a full leg sleeve that ends just before her toes, as well as a small petal like design above and below her left eye, and finally an ornate eye at the back of her neck. Her long and pointed ears have a few silver piercings along the cartilage on both her left and right ears, a mix of rings and studs with one or two blue gems in the mix, the only noticeable pattern being that the piercings on her right ear are all along the top edge, while those on the left are done on the bottom. Of all of Lyse’s….vanities, her hair is what she loves most. Dark black with a streak of blue that splits on either side of her hair part, very often kept long enough to fall past her chest, and very clearly well taken care of, the shine and full look often standing out compared to the more devil-may-care feel to the rest of her outward appearance.
Now, when it comes to clothing, Lyse has a very wide assortment. For the most part if you find her in her shop, which doubles as her home, she’ll be wearing simple dark pants tucked into black boots that go up mid calf, her top a simple white tank top that is usually obscured under the blue hooded shawl she keeps wrapped around her shoulders, the hood obscuring the majority of her face when pulled up. One of her hands is often adorned in many rings that chain to a round coin etched with runes at the center-back of her hand, which sends a single chain to a cuff at her wrist. When out in public, Lyse often leaves the ring/bracelet combo in favor of her gloves, and changes the shawl out for her coat, which is a deep blue with black accents and small silver designs through the blue, the coat itself long enough to fall to her lower calf area. This being said, Lyse can be found wearing almost anything, her job sometimes calling for a very big change in wardrobe, or even hair color. Magic is a useful thing for meeting some of these needs, but clothing is best done mundanely.
Abilities
Gear
The Cobalt Eye- A large sphere of cloudy blue glass that Lyse uses to focus her powers of divination, often just kept at her shop but she has a bag made especially for carrying this precious item.
Impact Gloves- As a very poor combatant, Lyse needs to take precautions. One such precaution is a pair of gloves she had commissioned that amplify the power of her punches by a wide margin. They’re simple black fingerless gloves with small designs in dark blue thread done along the knuckles.
Sapphire of Insight- A small blue gem wrapped in leather that Lyse wears around her neck, a small bead of divination power that she keeps on her at all times. The Sapphire allows Lyse to know one’s name after meeting their eyes. Often used simply as a parlor trick, knowing someone’s name before they introduce themselves, it has come in handy when dealing with other people using an alias.
Conjured Armor- metal armband wrapped in leather kept on her bicep, it is an enchanted piece that creates spectral armor on her body in case of emergencies. It is able to protect from a wide range of attacks, but will still break after too much damage, and will have to recharge longer the more damage is dealt.
Keen Daggers- A pair of boot knives that are enchanted to never dull, always on her person.
Multiple wands/casting focuses- In the case that Lyse needs to use magic, she often has many ‘casting focuses’ on her person at any given time, usually in the form of a wand. There will usually be one that is more easily seen than the others, the others all being more discreet. Her preferred “discreet” wand is a hairpin.
Abilities:
Mundane Abilities
Linguist- A more mundane skill that Lyse picked up, she has a very deep love for languages of all sorts, and as such has learned many over the years, including; Elven, Dwarven, Orcish, Draconic, Gnomish, and several different Human tongues. There are very few languages that Lyse hasn’t at least touched on learning.
Lady of Deceit- Her time as an undercover agent for The Eye has honed Lyse’s skills in subterfuge, the one that she is most known for is her ability to adapt her personality like a social chameleon, and fit to the version of herself that would best fit the situation. Cultivated after years of doing undercover work for The Eye in less than safe situations, Lyse is an expert in deception, and uses her silver tongue in tandem with her mastery of language to slide into an alternate persona like a new dress.
Insightful- People have always been fairly easy for Lyse to read, even without magic. Their body language, their expressions, their choice in words, their tone of voice etc. People give away more than they often choose to when they interact with others, small cues and reactions that they may not be consciously aware of, these are what Lyse looks for to pick up on.
Genius Intellect- A mage is nothing without the mind to make use of the magic at her fingertips, the intelligence to remember the strings of numbers that would become a spell. Lyse was considered a prodigy when it came to the complex equations and theories that made up the learning of magic, her intelligence and talent the only things that kept her from being a simple commoner like her parents.
Magical Abilities
Master of Divination- The magic that Lyse is the most proficient with is that of divination, anything to do with seeing the deeper meaning of things; the future, the past, the truth, hidden meanings, etc. Even mind reading falls under her set of skills.
Visions- Though rare, Lyse sometimes has visions, sometimes of the future, sometimes things happening at that moment, other times maybe the past or even just of someone/something, it is almost always something that her mind has been dwelling on and she would consider important. These visions are often hard to find the full meaning of, being full of seemingly random information that becomes clearer as she gets closer and closer to the subject of it, often having only enough to give a starting point for finding said subject, or finding the meaning of the vision.
Mind Reading- The spells that she utilizes most often are those that allow her to peer into the mind of those around her, feeling out their intentions and their hidden thoughts to gain the upper hand. This is also done out of paranoia, a life of a spy not lending to a sound mind, she keeps this up due to being wary of those who might seek revenge, or know of who she is and works for.
Aura Reading- In a different vein than reading one’s mind is reading one’s ‘aura’ which can tell the caster many things like their emotions and even aspects of their personality. Not a complex sort of spell, however it takes time to find the nuances of auras when first utilizing spells in this category.
Object History- For her cover job as a clairvoyant, Lyse often uses magic to see the past history of objects; who has touched them, what has occurred with the object in use, any lasting powerful memories. The more intense and powerful the event, the clearer the vision will be, a very intimate experience for Lyse in these cases. It’s often not a pleasant one, murder weapons leaving the most clear impressions, but a wedding ring has often had much more positive impressions.
Master Illusionist- Her second most used school of magic would be illusion, creating false images, changing her appearance, even becoming invisible. At the higher end of the spectrum, even making illusions powerful enough to harm the psyche of her enemies.
False Appearance- Though she’s good at coming up with a disguise through mundane means, being able to create a magical disguise on the fly is always very useful. It isn’t perfect by any means, but neither is a mundane disguise either. Lyse has gotten this kind of spell down to a very good ratio of magic spent to create the disguise, to how long the disguise can last, an important thing to remember.
Invisibility- The most difficult part of becoming invisible is maintaining it. In the lower levels, moving too quickly or too harshly can break the spell, and on the higher levels it is still difficult to maintain if your mind wanders too far, or if put into something like a fight. Lyse uses this skill to keep away from situations where this would be a problem.
Illusory Images- Creating false images is the groundwork of all illusion magic, Lyse being able to create complicated moving images that one might not even realize are there if they don’t look close enough, or don’t know how to escape if Lyse is acting on the offensive. As the mind is something Lyse understands quite well with her use of divination, she has combined the two skills to project illusions directly into someone’s mind where she can make even deeper apparitions.
Mental Assault- Her more powerful illusions act almost as a weapon, siphoning off more magic than most of her spells, these are used as a last resort for when she’s cornered with no other choice. Lyse manifests false blades that create the illusion of pain where they strike, which ultimately only subdues her enemy without killing them, a long lasting stun.
