Appearance
Visual Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Youta stands out in a crowd, even in today’s world. Though he’s not overly tall, 5’11”, he has long pink hair! It’s hard to miss pink[/color] hair! And then you contrast it with his deep tanned skin and there’s just a feedback loop of noticeable traits. He has dark dark dark brown eyes that one might even call black, but up close you’d find they are in fact just a bit brown. Giving him a look up and down, you’d very clearly see that he lives an active lifestyle of some sort, what with his lean runner’s build and toned muscle (not like a true Greek God, but a fair bit of definition at least). Youta wears his hair haphazardly up in a messy ponytail, usually some still hanging down around his shoulders. When he lets it down, his hair hangs below his shoulder blades and closer to the middle of his back. Across the bridge of his nose there is a scar that stretches from past his left eye to just under his right, and a series of other scars all over his calves.
Civilian Clothes: While usually one would find him wearing his UA uniform, which he wears a bit more casually with the shirt untucked and halfway undone, as well as the tie loosely hanging around his neck. Youta’s out of school outfit often consists of a flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, a pair of somewhat ripped jeans, and some similarly beat up skate shoes. Nearly always with any outfit he’ll wear his necklace, a simple silver pendant in an acute cone shape, as well as the black cord bracelet and anklet that almost never leave his left wrist and right ankle respectively, and finally a pair of goggles either around his neck or up on top of his head. He’s got a few piercings in both ears as well; industrial bar, helix, conch, etc.
Hero Outfit: With how his quirk works, Youta wears a mix of protective gear and athleticwear. The main parts of his outfit are the sleeveless top, which zips down the middle of the front and has a high neck. The top is white with a pink stripe along the zipper, and two parallel pink lines on either side of the neck which end at the shoulder. His pants are a contrast, being dark black but for the pink drawstring and parallel pink lines down the sides of the legs which end just before the elastic that marks the end of the pant leg just below the knee. For the most part these are just clothes, and it is the remaining pieces of his ensemble that make up the important portions. None of these are so important as the shoes. Designed to look like basketball shoes, these sneakers are mainly white with a black tongue, and a few splashes of pink near the toe and heel areas. What sets these apart from regular shoes is the strong carbon polymer they’re made of, able to withstand extreme heat and are damn hard to pierce, the sole has a thin titanium plate just below the foot just in case of such an event. The collar of each shoe is extra reinforced, made to provide protection and stability for Youta’s ankles. Youta is further protected with the special knee and arm pads, made of a similar carbon material as his shoes though it proves a far stronger armor, even able to block small arms fire. He wears a set on his knees, over the pants, three on each arm starting at his wrist and ending at his bicep worn over a pair of pink sleeves. To protect his hands he wears a set of black fingerless gloves with reinforced knuckles and palms. Youta’s gear is stored across his back in a flame-retardant backpack that is filled to the brim with supplies and has a single cross shoulder strap made to unbuckle in the middle for quick release. Furthermore he has a utility belt around his waist, and keeps his katana sheath attached to the right side.
Youta’s Backpack: Kept within his backpack is essentially a rescue kit. Examples of some things he carries; extra water, food, a well supplied emergency med-kit, an umbrella, blanket, satellite phone/radio, a tanto style knife, extra arm and knee pads, candy (It’s to give to kids he saves!....and when he gets snacky), and some small little comfort items to give to the kids like little pro-hero toys. He keeps the bag stocked up as much as possible, he happily would give the whole bag to someone if they were really in need, he can always buy another.
Personality
Bad Habits: Youta has a bit of a tendency to get distracted, his ADHD tendencies getting the better of him and he sorta...trails off…looking at…something...in the...distance...
Goal: Youta dreams of opening a hero agency one day, one that focuses on helping children and would provide counseling services as well!
General Personality: A bit bubbly, warm, kind, happy, goofy, etc. A bunch of buzzwords to help describe Youta, who is very much a mix of these words. Growing up he always loved going out and about, being active, having fun adventures in the theater of the mind! This fun loving young boy grew up to be a fun loving young man as he reached the end of his high school career, the Youta we know and love today. While he might appear to be flippant about things, Youta does his best to take things as seriously as he can...but sometimes he just doesn’t have it in him to be a stern serious guy, y’know? Life is too short to not live happily in his opinion, so he keeps in touch with that inner child who used to dream of running on water one day. As with any good hero-to-be, Youta’s main drive is helping people in need. One thing about his brand of heroism is that he has an extra soft spot for children, who might not fully understand or be able to deal with the often heavy and complicated emotions that arise in a life threatening situation. One isn’t done being saved when the hero rescues them, and Youta has a passion for spreading that message. Perhaps if he’d not become a hero he’d have been a child psychologist, probably a good idea to get that sort of training anyways considering his goals in life, that’d be a lot of work though...man…..oh uh...got distracted!
Back on track. Okay. So, Youta is a passionate guy overall, he doesn’t do much half-way if he really sets his mind to it….it’s just kinda hard to get past the tall neigh insurmountable wall that is procrastination brought on by the ADHD, but once he does surpass it there’s no stopping him! Except maybe for lunch? Boy is a bit of a bottomless pit, he’s fairly sure it’s a small side effect of his quirk that he burns more calories than the average bear, but he’s not 100% on that yet. Further testing is required. In the arena of say….flirting? He’s a bit unstoppable, sometimes his mouth acts before he can stop himself from saying ”Wow, I don’t think I’ve seen such a beautiful smile. I’d love to see more of it if you’re up to share!” At least he means well? Youta has a lot of emotions, thoughts, and words that he just can’t stop himself from sharing sometimes, he makes up for it by being quick to apologize if/when he realizes he’s taken a step too far. Oh uhh, he’s also kinda obsessed with music. He plays the trumpet and the drums, totally spaced on that...whoops! Onward.
He’d be pretty reticent to show any of it, feeling like he’s supposed to always be that cheery guy who brightens up the room when he enters, but he does get extremely frustrated with himself for some of the pitfalls that come with how his head works. Those who are closest to him have likely seen him break down once or twice when it gets to be too much, but for the most part he finds it hard to let others close enough to see that side of him, it isn’t on them to take care of his problems…but it is his job to help everyone he can.
Personal Life
Mother: Luz, alive (Physical Therapist), manipulation of tension
Father: Akira, alive (Pro-Hero), manipulation of aerodynamics
Siblings: Hikari; older sister, alive (Pro-Hero), manipulation of elasticity
History:
Honestly he hasn’t had too crazy a life yet, he grew up happy with his family. He adores his big sister, he gets along well with both of his parents...yeah. As a kid he and his sister (older by four years) used to play all sorts of imaginary games together where they were heroes together, a brother sister team the likes of which had never been seen! Sure they had their spats sometimes, but what siblings didn’t? There wasn’t much rivalry between them since her quirk more resembled their mother’s, and his resembled their father’s, it really helped them find some fun ways to work together. One favorite adventure of theirs was when they made an old cartoon style person slingshot with the use of a tree and some sheets, making sure to do some proper testing before they fired Youta like a missile into their neighbor’s pool (they asked if they could swim in it first, don’t worry) They did kinda forget about the depth issue and he fractured his hand on the bottom when trying to stop himself...it was a blast! They got sooo grounded for that, but it was worth it. One of his favorite memories for sure.
When his sister enrolled in UA, he was simultaneously super proud...and then suddenly super alone. He knew she was working towards her own dreams, but Youta’s best friend in the whole world was suddenly just not there, she was far too busy and determined. He never resented her for it, he knew she was doing good for the world and she missed him just as much as he missed her. In fact seeing her working so hard was what inspired him to follow and try to make it into UA himself, it marked a big change in him. From then on he began working harder on his sword techniques with his father, and of his own volition he took up boxing to learn how to actually throw a punch. Since he had been an avid lover of music, and a decent enough musician, the rhythm side of boxing made a lot of sense to him, the mix really helped him out. What’s more relaxing than beating up a bag when you’re a hormonal and pissed off teen? There...there are probably more relaxing things to be honest.
Eventually the time came that he was going to test himself at UA’s entrance exam. He might not have passed with flying colors, but dammit he passed! Now he could really begin working on bettering his mastery of his quirk. Akira had already graduated, she was out there doing hero work, and now there was another Jin roaming the halls of UA who would do his best to leave his mark. In his second year there was a dramatic event where he and his class had to work together against a real life disaster he pushed himself harder than he ever had before. See, there had been a building collapse in an earthquake when his class was out together for a shopping trip, who better to help save people than the fastest guy in class? He went from the top down, saving as many people as he could without stopping, it was here that he realized what he really wanted to do with his life. There were a lot of kids in there who were lost and confused, they were just too young to be able to actually deal with some of what was happening, to deal with some of what they were seeing! It was what kept him going through the whole ordeal, he had to help them! He wanted to stay after to make sure they were all okay, but he blacked out from the overexertion from the almost forty minutes of high speed, high adrenaline heroism he was taking part in. When he woke up in the hospital a day later he was so sore he could hardly move, the extreme buildup of lactic acid in his system was quite the thing, he was pretty lucky to have made it out of there alive. But his first question when he woke up was ”are the kids okay?” before he probably quickly passed out again within five minutes. Youta Jin, Racer Rouge, was on his way to being a real hero. Year three was going to be one helluva ride.
Quirk
Name: Tribokenisis
Quirk Type: Emitter
Power: Youta’s quirk allows him to create a field around himself in which he can manipulate how friction acts upon the surfaces within. The field appears as a light pink glow around him that extends for about five feet around him in all directions. Within this field he can both raise and lower friction levels to the extreme high or the extreme low, though he’s not perfect at the precise control of it he can raise the friction in one area while lowering it in another as long as it is within the aura. While not a supermove per say, the main ability that Youta uses is what he calls ”Speed Skate” which is where he alternates raising and lowering friction on each foot; raising the friction on the pushing foot while lowering it on the resting and repeating with the roles switched, allowing him to skate across the ground at super speeds. To maximize his speed during this, he will keep as much of his aura as possible focused on dropping the friction on his body to reduce drag from the air around him.
Supermoves:
Speed Slash: Using his sword in tandem with a sharp rise in friction within the sheath as well as on the hilt and his hand, Youta will ready a draw that he releases with a massive reduction in friction within the sheath. He often does this while also Speed Skating, imitating samurai movies of old in this powerful iaijutsu style move.
Turbo Thrash:[/u] While he isn’t a particularly strong guy, it’s hard to withstand a rapidfire barrage of jabs and punches coming from all directions. Creating as little friction as possible between his arms and the target, Youta attacks over and over again in a countless series of well placed strikes, keeping himself in place by increasing the friction below his feet as much as he can so as to become an immovable object (or as close as he can get)
Drawbacks: While it isn’t the most immediate of consequences for using/overusing his quirk, he generates an above normal level of lactic acid, and dehydrates much faster the more he uses his quirk. For the longest time he didn’t quite notice, but he greatly overused his quirk once when he was just starting his time as a first year at UA and was laid out in the hospital for three days recovering. To counteract this he does his best to not have sustained quirk use for more than ten minutes, every ten beyond that will likely be a day in the hospital, he doesn’t want to think of the possibility that he doesn’t make it to the hospital in time...or what happens if he greatly overuses his quirk. Another glaring weakness is that his reflexes aren’t quite superhuman, so while he may be able to move much faster than he’s ever tried….well he might not be able to keep up with what’s going on at those speeds! Oh, and there’s the fun tidbit that if he goes too fast without reducing the friction on his skin and general personage he could rip it all right off.
Fighting Style: Since he’s not exactly a powerhouse, though he’s done some things to make up for that, most of his style is being able to be faster and more nimble than his opponent and to barrage them with so many attacks that it’s more like a death by one thousand cuts. In effort to have some sort of actual combat effectiveness, Youta has trained in boxing techniques to get the most out of every punch he throws, technique is key! In a similar vein he learned swordsmanship from his father, the practice honestly helps him center himself when the rapidfire barrage of thoughts proves to be too much, it does get to him sometimes after all.
