"...Do we?"
The scene went quickly from chaos and confusion to just the latter, as people came to their senses. Regardless of how warped the perception of time in this world was, it clearly wasn't here for enough time for people to ponder the question. "N-...No, Jamie just showed up one day and did something weird and it's been weeks si-""I do", the entire room's attention pivoted to a young man interrupted the explanation.
"I mean, kinda-" "What the hell is wrong with you! Do you like dealing with faceless mons-" "Look I'm making rent here, I can treat myself a footlong from time to time" "A F-, I haven't seen my daughter!" "Well at least you still have one! I don't have the mob breathing down my back" "Look, Ivan, what happened to Fanny was a traged-" "Nah, Luke's right, this building's got real ramps" "Well if Jamie was so benevolent why are you still chairbound Alexis?" "Woah woah you didn't just go the-" "Damn right I did! Why do I have to come to work? Where's my million dollars?!" "That's not the poi-" "Of course you'd want a million dollars you 'delegating' piece of sl-" "THE DOOOOOR!"
Someone had the sense to call attention to the mass of golems beating down the barricaded door, breaking it down and funneling into the office, as hard as it was through the narrow halfway. Jamie closed the metal fire exit behind him, and rather than seek to deceive strange, it grew roots that fastened it and melded it into the doorframe.

The voices came with different waves, but Strange got the gist. He spun, cloak billowing impressively as he swung his hands forward. Tables suddenly sprung to life, leaping to the defence of the room, slamming themselves top first. Their legs were now strangely humanoid, bulging with muscle as they pushed against the non-human aggressors.
Strange turned to the real people, looking from one to the other. He then closed his eyes and span a hand around, creating golden sparks that opened into the skies over fake New York. A white blinding light stood before them, bridged by more desks as Strange moved them to create a makeshift bridge.
"Go, or stay. I feel like this universe will become more unstable, but there's your choice."
Strange turned his attention to the locked door. He flicked a finger, releasing a bolt of acid that splashed dangerously on the surface, melting a wide hole in the surface.
"Jamie! You have to listen."
He leapt through the sizzling door to the otherside, preparing more golden runes around his wrist.
"Whatever your preconceptions of me, I'm trying to save your damn skin, and the skins of all the innocents back in the real New York. Don't you give a damn about what might happen to them, because of you?"

"...but what about""Just take your damn footlong and make a run for it Jackson!"
There was very little time to make consensus on the nuances of safety in monotony, any stragglers were peer pressured into following the crowd through the very brittle looking bridge to presumably home, a group effort was even done to carry the wheelchair across. The mass of white bodies was being held back again, but it wasn't letting up, so it was imperative to push forward. The door seemed quite resilient to the acid at first, but it crumpled all the while. The fire exit staircase was quite visible from the other wise.
Upon crossing the door, Strange would be able to see Jaime well on his way to the rooftops, before being assailed by a freezing chill coming from the fire extinguisher on the right side. "all i want is peace, all i want is peace, all i want is peace", the chant could be heard farther and farther. "Save me, yes! That's all you lot want to do!", he rebuted, shutting down the metal door leading to the ceiling. Strange would notice that the building was now complicit in this escape, as the stairs only seemed to grow longer as he would ascend through them. The doors were no longer content with being obliterated, and instead an at-first orderly of metal doors seemed to spawn in front of the ever-distant exit, up until they collapsed with the wall and overflowed as it kept multiplying, raining sheets of metal downwards onto the Doctor.

Strange reached his arms out, the first door slamming into his palms. Swiftly he worked more magic into the mix, transforming the door into two flat metal blades. Strange leapt forward, swinging through the assault of entrances with wild slashes, cutting through the doorvalanche and making short work of the fire escapes.
Then he slammed a foot down on one of the pieces of door, discarded the blades and slung out a hand. A whip shot from his palm, slicing swiftly through the extending corridor and hitting the top of the expanding staircase. Strange pulled hard, using the door as a board to slide up the stairs, the rope retracting to speed him up. He shot through the door after a few seconds, going at speed now.
"I'll give you peace, if you help me to get your universe from threatening mine!"
Strange turned as he flew, looking down at Jamie with a frown.
"You've had a bad time with my kind... but trust me. Don't you think I would have torn this world apart if I really wanted to?"

After the exit was breached, the world seemed to whip back around as it corrected the height of the building, it aided the menacing air he was extruding for sure. From here, the pale streets of New York were now botched black, as the entirety of its faux population was assembled at the bottom of the building. Jaime didn't have much of a place to run left or trash to put between him and the sorcerer, so he was forced to listen. "What have WE done to whatever wizard dimension you come from?!", Jamie lashed back out, it was not within his ken to understand what happened to the building, to him, this was New York, clean and pure. "That's such a bollocks answer. At what point should I trust someone that can destroy the world?! Because they saved a cat? Stopped a robbery? Held together a collapsing bridge? Are you gonna solve world hunger?!". Jaime took his glasses off and slammed them to the floor, and somehow, he still had another pair of glasses on. "I did! Kinda, but I did it! Jackson's never been more chatty and healthy. Alexis no longer has to call in sick if the elevator's busted. Clifford's dog got the best vet care he couldn't once afford. Dana and Pierre are coming around I'm sure, their kids are here somewhere sure, I'll find them...they're here...in New York...they haven't left New York...", he stammered, a contradiction, that wasn't good, that made no sense, this was New York, perfect, pure.
"AND LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO IT", he returned to the subject matter.

"How do you think I came here? Your world opened up a portal in mine, an unknown sphere that could do anything. Are you telling me you have such little control over this place that it just... pops up in other places without your consent?"
Strange righted himself, levitating over the black mass of the population below. He swung a hand across the views of New York, an irritated look on his face.
"You've made a paradise here, but it seems like you don't know how to control it. This place is more like a living, breathing animal that you think you have control over, but it's getting bigger. Stronger. Don't you worry what happens if it ever got out of hand?"
Strange pinched his nose with one hand, trying not to dive into the nitty gritty of hero culture and debate.
"You tried to make a place where people like us didn't exist, but you've done so in a way that means we'd eventually come looking. I admire your tenacity, your drive to create a world for yourself. Kidnapping though, is one thing. The collapse of my universe because of this anomaly is another."
Strange floated down so he was eye level with Jamie, frowning across the void.
"Let me help. If I can contain your universe's influence in mine, then nobody from my side will come looking for you. As I said... you're lucky I'm the first person to cross over. You can trust me. There are far worse people that can, and will, cross over into this world if you don't."

"Look, Magic Man, i don't need to 'control' it. I don't want to control anything other than my shift", Jamie absolved responsability, clearly unaware of the rift that exists in the real New York. "All I know is that you're ruining it. We were about to have food catered for today due to our exceptional performance, even, of all the days for-", Jaime turned around and walked back as he gathered his tumultous thoughts. "You're not going to help me, you're going to help yourself. You're gonna take New York, and put it in your fancy wizard orb on a night shelf on your evil wizard collection. And i'm not going to be a part of that", he pointed back at Strange, then turned around at the distant horizon, of the beauty of nothing beyond New York. "I'm NOT, being a PART, of THAT!".
Jamie turned around and ran, jumping off the building and fading from sight. It took a moment, but he could then be seen flying south, hoisted by an abnormal number of pigeons.

"I resent that... it's just an ordinary wizard shelf."
Strange muttered as Jamie leapt from the building and onto a fortunate flock of birds. Alfred Hitchcock would be proud. He followed, cloak billowing out behind him, trying to keep up with him. Reason was running out. Soon he would have to resort to plan B, which was far messier.
"And what's the alternative? Let this place grow unstable, collapse into other worlds, threaten this so-called peace you crave? You're being naive if you think this can last the way it's going. It's already growing too much!"
He gathered golden runes around his wrists, readying a spell for when he got just a bit closer.
"You want peace, and yet you refuse to acknowledge that this universe will cause chaos. Its a ticking time bomb. No amount of footlong sandwiches will change that! Last chance, Jamie... let me help, or I'll sort this mess out without you. Carrot or stick. Peace or pain. The choice is yours!"

"Look here Doctor Wizard, I graduated top of my class in computer science, not multidimensional balance!", Jamie admitted being out of his depth on the subject of this universe's stability, or any universe for that matter. The world shifted, and Strange would see a golem appear from thin air flailing at him with a cane. The skies ahead and above darkened as the world displaced its population above to harass Strange by swinging and throwing every day items at him, as well as with the weight of their incongruent bodies.
"It's not really a choice with any of you ever, you will 'help' me either way, you will me bring pain either way", Jamie yelled back, the rain seemed to slow down if only to deliver this message. As Strange's sightlines cleared, he would realize they were approaching the end of the sketched world; Liberty Island. "So I'll do the right thing, you fight for your peace, i'll fight for mine!", the birds gained altitude and the storm of faux people resumed, taking Jamie to the crown of the Statue of Liberty.

"That's exactly why I'm sticking my nose in. It's what all of us heroes do. You don't know a damn thing about this place, or what it can do!"
Strange arced his arms around, creating a glowing shield that took the golem's attack, then he looked up as the whole population of this facade city began to rain down on him, assaulting him with anything they could get their hands on.
"By the fangs of Farallah... does this guy ever quit?"
He raised his hands skywards. Ice began to form around his fingers, and he released a vicious icy wind that encompassed the golems falling from above. The Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon froze the golems solid, and Strange followed by opening a portal with a swift, fluid motion. The ice statues fell through, coming out somewhere near the Shoe Sanctum far below.
"I'm coming to the end of my patience... if he makes me fight the Statue of Liberty, I'm going to lose it."
Strange's cape pushed him onwards, to the final place Jamie could run to. As he approached, Strange tried one more time.
"You wouldn't let someone without your level of knowledge fix a seriously broken laptop. So why do you refuse my help? I've trained in multiverse problems, contained the chaos and instability that happens when they collide. Now you sit here refusing my help?"
Golden rings surrounded his wrists. Strange looked on towards Jamie with an angry, irritated look.
"As far as I see it, if you refuse my help, then you're part of the problem. You're the reason that my world and this one are potentially on the verge of disaster. Stand in my way now and I'll deal with you like I deal with any being that threatens my universe."

The grounded metaphor seemed to have helped give Jamie pause, Stephen went for a consulting session, so why not be the consultant himself. "And why should I trust you over her?", Jamie challenged him, who was 'her'? "I've sacrificed much to get to where I am, friends, leisure, I was thaught that if I worked hard it would all come back to me, and yet I kept losing more, for no fault of my own. You're a neurosurgeon, not a shrink, so you wouldn't care either, if you're actually one of course", Jamie put Strange's non-evil-wizard credentials in question. "And when I stared up at her I thought I would, too, be lost to some increscribable force from outer space, but no, she reassured me, she even gave me my lizard back. She then promised me that...she would be the last of my worries", Jamie glossed over a lot of things, but it didn't sound like it was the handiwork of an entity he was acquainted with.
"Slowly, but surely that became true, I got to work with no vehicles being thrown over my head, and got home to find it in one piece, tranquility, serenity, it got better and better until I woke up one day to austere perfection", he extended his arms, a frog boiling in water, hypnotized into believing this was still New York. "This city is safe, forever. Why should I care about what the moonites at Qxuzrtryx-1000003 have to say about it? Why should any of my friends care about it?", Jamie rebutted, with the tone of a genuine question, Strange seemed to have neglected saying that his coworkers were evacuated during all of this tussle.

"Your 'friends' were quite quick to escape this place and return to the real New York. Only a few of them wanted to stick around, given the choice of free footlongs or seeing their families. They took my help, and left this sterile world for their actual home."
Strange was frowning now. He had surmised that Jamie was the leader, the head honcho that had been running the show. So, in all of this, a strange thought now crept into Strange's mind. For a moment he lowered his hands, staring across the distance to the man perched upon the Statue's crown.
"Who, exactly, is 'She'?"

"What do you mean 'real'? This is New York! A better New York! A safer New York! You're a doctor, maybe, you know sterile means good!", Jamie rambled, not noticing his own contradictions. "I don't believe for a 'second' they left on their own, I bet you told them you would destroy this world and you made them run away in fear straight into some sketchy wizard dimension", he rebutted, not being entirely far from the truth. "But I'm sure that's fine to you, you did your job, you 'saved' them. I bet half of them will want back in by next Casual Friday, and maybe Dana will bring her damn kid with her and stop bringing drama up every morning". He went on. Jamie dodged the question as to whom he was contacted by, if he even knew. Perhaps if Strange was a shrink he would actually know the words he needed to say to pacify the raving workaholic, but he hadn't been sold on the multiversal imbalance part of the equation yet.

"Yeah, yeah, I've heard the anti-good guy speech before. Stay with me, here. Who. Is. She?"
Strange was growing ever more frustrated with the lack of response. Jamie was scatterbrained, totally mad. It was all he could do to stop himself from physically restraining the man. Strange needed tobknow who was pulling the strings here. If there was someone he needed to know about... he pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I can't believe you're going to make me say it... fine. I want to see your manager."

"I don't know", Jamie blurted out, seemingly exhausted, before rearing to catch a second wind.
"And I. Don't. CARE!.
A titanic voice accompanied Jamie, and the doctor's concerns were immortalized in copper as he would see a copper arm swing past to backhand him out of the sky, even its presumably silky drapes sharing the hardness of metal. The Statue of Liberty was now too his enemy, and it was surprisingly lithe, as this world did not bother with perfectly simulating air resistance. "I Thanklessly Took Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses", a female voice monologued through the statue, apparently Jamie's manager was french. "You Storied Pomp! You Care Only For Your Ancient Lands"", torch still held high, the Statue rose her foot and stomped down, beckoning large cannons to emerge from the long inert fort at her feet. The metal from her torch broke away, erupting in a black, hollowed out flame that contrasted the bleak sky.
"This Warmth No Longer Welcomes You!".
Resounding booms came from the fort, and the sky was rent in a continuous barrage fireworks, aimed with ill-intent towards the sorcerer.
