The swinging first only partially took Strange by surprise, he who had been fully expecting this turn of events. The hand hit a sphere of golden runes, Strange safetly in the centre, though it did throw him backwards like a tennis ball. The sphere fell apart as he righted himself, let out an irritated breath of air and flew right back.
"It sure didn't cross your mind to actually ask, did it? These huddled masses had been taken from their families and homes by some improbable being, and you expected thanks?"
The canons rang out, a barrage of explosive artillery that aimed straight at Strange. He held out a hand, clenched it, twisted his wrist and pushed forward. Each projectile that entered a ten feet area around him would burst like a balloon, even accompanied by multi-coloured confetti that began to swirl around the Sorcerer.
"Fact is, I don't give a damn about your thankless task. I know all about thankless tasks, believe me. I'm here to cut a deal. If you won't respond with anything but violence, fine. But you've crossed the wrong Sorcerer Supreme today, lady."
Around him was a rainbow vortex of the transmuted confetti, and Strange's cold eyes were staring through at the giant copper statue.
"So. Last time, because I'm really losing my patience. Let me help save this universe, and mine, or I'll tear it down atom by atom. I won't have anyone threaten my world."

"My dominion is of the shore, not of the tempestous seas", Liberty replied, shrugging off the need of asking. It was an equally dismissive answer, it suggested that whatever consciousness Jamie invoked took more responsability than he did, the soul of New York, how cliché. The statue tilted Her neck backwards as Strange threatened her back, seemingly indignated at the Sorcerer. "Hark this hypocrite!", She announced, the gears of the cannons reloading their payload. "For he gladly saved a few to claim moral high ground, yet would doom more souls than the spangled banner has stars", She proclaimed. Strange saved everyone at Eagle-Eye, but weren't there more people in the building? Would he round all of them up and escort them out, or accept the casualties of war?
She didnt give him time to ruminate on the conundrum, as the statue's robes lifted slightly as the colossus displaced itself forward once, ina dizzying, world turning motion. It did so again, and Strange would see the statue already stood right in front of him, Her left hand already reaching to hold him tight and crush him under Her grasp. What would feel like translocation at first was anything but; Liberty wished to walk, so the entirety of New York twisted and turned to make sure that Her foot landed back on the pedestal as She did.
"War it is! We forge freedom in the crucible of conflict!"

"Whose... the hypocrite... now?"
Strange spoke after creating a sphere of confetti around him, the hand grabbing onto it as it hardened and strengthened. Arms outstretched, Strange gritted his teeth as he concentrated on not becoming a smear on the palm of Liberty's hands.
"You talk about saving souls... but you don't give me a chance to prevent death on an unimaginable scale! Just because it's not your domain!"
He swung a hand, creating a portal that he leapt through. Seconds later and he would have been toast, but he appeared above the statue now, looking down at the giant green woman.
"Whatever you claim to be... you're dooming a whole universe for some petty reasons! Don't claim to be such a benevolent god if you won't even listen to me for a moment!"
He pressed his hands together, golden threads leaping and moving, before releasing a cloud of shimmering chains downwards. Strange was aiming for wrists, ankles and waist, to restrain the giant.
"If you won't cooperate, then we're all doomed!"

Liberty frowned as she let go off a pile of confetti. The world snapped around once and twice so that the goddess could search for the sorcerer without having to turn around, but she had neglected looking up. The titan was at first bemused by this fickle attempt at ensnaring it, but the magical chains proved binding, pulling downwards with all her body and might, save for her right hand which still rose the obsidian beacon. The statue struggled to look up, amd as she did, Strange could see inside her crown. Jamie was still there, huddled comfortably in a corner despite gravity's best efforts. He was trembling, his face buried on his phone just to ignore his surroundings. Whatever force he invoked was out of his control, just as he would have preferred.
"HNGHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"Strange would feel the whiplash of a trembling world as gravity and air seemed to whisk once again, it was not just the copper construct's owm weight, but the weight of the world that shaked and squirmed to break it free. "Let the seas take the continent! It matters not!". The woman announced as the world continued to seize. "For this haven will endure, and receive its dogged visitors!", the pitch-black flame flared and fumed into a pillar towards the skies, as well as through thr magical bindings, sloely eroding them and turning them to ash, for Liberty refuses to be bound. The hellfire came back down, and threatened to provide Strange with the same fate.
"Hallowed is this flame! It will not quench! It must not quench"

The flame struck down, right through the place where Strange had been not a second before.
But it wasn't where Strange was now.
A sparking, orange portal appeared within the Statue's crown. Strange stepped out in front of Jamie, brushing down his robes absently.
"You're really attached to this place, huh?"
He looked down on the man with a sympathetic place.
"I can't persuade you otherwise, but I'm not here to tear you from this place."
Strange motioned to the innards of the Statue.
"It's just not necessary. I don't want to end your way of life, or take apart what you and the others want yo create. Simply... I want to prevent our two worlds from coming together in a catastrophic way."
He sighed as he stroked his goatee.
"We got off on a bad foot. Jamie... won't you help me stop a disaster for both here and the original New York?"

Jamie stammered as Strange addressed him, recatching his phone and holding it tight with both hands as the social media feed extended from its screen into a blade of pure light that took up the space between him and strange. The energy it emanated was formidable, disregarding its cowardly wielder, or the concept of being held at bladepoint by a gif of a dog sneezing. "Does it look like I can help you, doc?", Jamie rebutted, still holding onto anger. "You keep going and going on about portal this, world that, multidimensional collapse by next Sunday. None of that is my job, none of this is my problem!", the world outside seemed to blur and shift as the island burned in ebony hellfire, as Liberty sought to relocate Strange. "Some space ghost offered me peace, and so far that's what I've gotten until you came along. I don't know if she punched a whole in reality to do so, and at this point I do not care!", he continued, there it was again, this mysterious benefactor. "All I want is peace! All. I want. Is peace! ALL I WANT IS PEACE".
The world shook once more, and the room was no longer illuminated by the dimly lit sun. Outside of the crown, Strange could see Liberty pressing her face against the bars of her own crown, the space in which it formerly rested was replaced with a pitch black void. "You Will Have No Refuge, No Solace", the Statue chanted, and black flames crept from every corner of the room. They circled around Jamie and kept him unharmed, but wouldn't be as considerate for the interloper.
"No Peace, No Forgiveness, No Matter What"

"All I want is peace!"
Strange grimaced as he felt the black flames coming in close. Something came to him then, an enlightenment as the words and chaos swam around him. Using his cape and a fair bit of magic protection, he soared out of the crown, past the giant statue (not pausing to see the physics involved, lest he get a headache) and stopped a distance away, clothes smoking and skin feeling singed from the flames.
You just don't get it, do you? Everything always had to be your way. The Strange way. Nobody else could take control of a situation like you, Stephen!
He winced as he remembered those words, spoken by someone he still held strong feelings for. Even Doctor Fate's conclusion to the fight against Enchantress had sounded similar. That was it... this whole time he had been self absorbed by what he thought was best. But perhaps that was why...
He slung out both arms, one on either side. Behind him, fluttering out of the very air itself, came a great white flag that bellowed out behind him.
"Wait! Stop, for a moment, please. I think... I've been too rash about this whole situation. If peace is what you want, then I will grant you peace. I... I will leave you alone."
He bowed his head slightly, hands palm-up, universally signalling that he wasn't about to attack.
"I'm... sorry, for assuming that I could solve this with violence. If we keep fighting, then we will be here for centuries, and I think the both of us have things we would want to be doing more than this."
His eyes fixed on the giant copper orbs of the Statue.
"If we can, let's start over. My name is Doctor Stephen Strange. I came here to help, and all I want is to do just that. I've trespassed into your universe, so I apologise for that as well. And... I'm sorry about running your footlong lunch day."

"Lo! The Coward Hides In Front Of His Cowardice!", Liberty seemed to have made her decision, her right hand lowering for the first time as the brazier of her torch burned hotter and dimmer, unleashing a torrent of consuming fire. "If Victory Is Impossible, Then We Shall Quarrel Forever, For It Is My Purpos-STOP!", the flames froze to a standstill, the world itself halting to take a breath as Jamie himself did. The world blurred once more and the incongruencies righted themselves, the Statue was once again standing up, and nothing was aflame. "Alright that's...that's more my speed, alright...", Jamie undusted his shirt from the edge of Liberty's crown. Strange could feel the world behind him shift and turn, were he to look back, he could see it apparently ammending all of the ruckus from their engagement, someone's gotta man the shoe outlets, after all.
"Now, I don't like checkups, and I think they're below your paygrade, but it hurts more to neglect em, don't it?", the world shifted once more, and in the air, an office assembled, there were no walls or ceiling, only floor tilings and floating diplomas, ornaments, and a door, it was Strange's office, or the shell of it, rather. It was rather dramatic from him to elect going through the door, but the normalcry placated the frenzied engineer. "Well, Doctor Stephen Wizard, I really don't know why I'm here", Jamie stepped forward, the bladed edge retracting from his phone as he shoved it into his pocket and took a seat. "You keep saying something's wrong and I just don't see it. What could I ever do about it?"

It was his office, or at least what his office would be like if he hadn't been forced to walk away from medicine. Strange smiled to himself, waving a hand and replacing his garb with something more akin to his old doctor's attire. He brushed down the magically apparated suit, sat down and cleared his throat. Strange had been back and forth with this man, and it felt like a real world analogy for his life as of late. Now... now he felt more himself.
"Well," Strange said, his scarred fingers interlinking as he leaned back, "you're lucky this was caught early. See, not everything dangerous is visible. I've got a keen eye for problems, and Jamie, there's something wrong."
Strange maintained a gaze with the man who had, until moments before, been trying to kill him with a giant-sized version of Lady Liberty.
"I'm a doctor. I come here to help and heal, not to make the problems worse. You might not be able to see it... but there is a wound. A wound that not only threatens you, but others around you. One that will draw unwanted attention to you and your... lifestyle. I, ah... do you understand what I'm saying?"

"Nope, not all doc, soz bout that", Jamie leaned back into his seat, the gleam on his glasses swirling as if to simulate an eyeroll. "It's my father that's diabetic but I also can do without sugarcoating. Code, finances, numbers, taste for the straightforward stuff, y'know, it's part of the biz", he added. Strange already had him sit down once, but it seemed like his grand rethoric scared off the prejudiced engineer before they could get started on that front, perhaps its best not to lose em again. "So you can tell me what's wrong with New York, and I'm probably not going to like it, but I feel like I've enough spoons for bad news this week, which is blisssssss", he tensed his fingers inward in some sort of reminiscent relief, Strange's forays into the multiversal unknowns have nothing on the volatility and perils of the crypto market.

Strange found himself grinning. This guy... he cleared his throat, and rose to his feet. Beside him wad a whiteboard, which had always been there? Of course it had. It stood to reason that doctors had whiteboards in their office. With a shaky hand, Strange drew two wobbly circles, barely touching at the edges.
"Here is what we can call "our New Yorks". Two of an infinite variety, but importantly two that are separate. Now," Strange drew two lines from one to the other, "this is what we currently have. A portal, tunnel, however you describe it. The two are linked suddenly."
Strange looked at Jamie, making sure he was still paying attention.
"If you have a dam that goes right through the middle of a lake, then the water on each side, while similar, is different. Unique. But remove the dam..."
He struck an eraser through the tunnel, leaving both circles with open edges.
"With the portal that is currently sitting open in both of these New Yorks, it is only a matter of time before the realities within both of them start leaking into one another. I'm not talking about anomalies like myself, or the office... I mean both universes will collapse together, and start trying to replace one another, eventually mixing together in a catastrophic end. This doesn't just affect this New York, but the whole universe beyond... if there is any. Same goes for my reality."
Strange took a seat again, tugging on his goatee.
"You see why I came in guns blazing before... and as far as you're concerned, I'm not the worst that could pay you a visit. There are other heroes with a tougher approach than me, and even worse villains and creatures that would want to take advantage of this. Hence my proposal. Let me help this universe. Close it up and remove it from mine. Hell, I can even keep it on my evil wizard's shelf, and protect it from any multi-dimensional evils that might already be taking an interest."
Strange cleared his throat, and motioned towards the other man.
"So... any thoughts?"

The whiteboard was, in fact, not there at Strange behest, it would take another lapse of perception for it to actually appear, it seemed like the world was still busy working on cleaning up, a reminder that it meant that, should things go sour, this whole song and dance would start over.
Jamie seemed to take to the graph quite earnestly, though the gleam on his lenses seemed to glaze over as vague enough words such as 'realities', 'universal collapse', and 'catastrophe'. "The important takeaway I'm getting here is that tomorrow there could be a hole in the atmosphere", Jamie mentioned quite nonchallantly for the direness of the situation, at least he seemed to get that there was a catastrophic threat hanging from somewhere, even if he massively underestimated its breadth. "Well, yes, kinda. Now I imagine you figured this out as you went along, because you're here and we're not inside of the evil wizard orb yet", he kept up, his tone was somewhat derisive, but cooperative. "But what do you need me for? I believe you said you escorted my friends out, for whatever reason. I've never seen Jackson so relieved before, well it took him a week or so." Jamie spoke quite lucidly of this whole kidnapping session. "You seem to be the different dimension portal man, that's not me", he dismissed, as if they weren't thirty feet in the skies above Liberty Island on the shell of an office at his behest. Strange described this world's will as an animal, and it was an apt comparison, it was apparent that it understood Jamie, but Jamie did not understand it back, nor did he find it necessary to do so.

"Cooperation."
Strange cocked his head, interlacing his fingers on the desk.
"There are plenty of real people here. I would rather not have to deal with a kidnapping, so I want you to let any of them that want to return to my New York, go. You can return too, if you like, but I won't force anyone who wants to stay in this... quiet, hero-free city. I get the appeal, I really do."
Strange smiled, leaning back on his chair. Jamie was more placid now. He wondered what this man had gone through, to be so violently against the norm... or, at least, the norm for his universe.
"But they have to stay of their own accord. They have to know that there won't be a way back to their home. I can't risk the portal remaining open, or being opened more than it has been already. Once that's done, you'll be able to do as you wish in this universe. Footlong fridays and all."

"Hey hey slow down there, what do you mean 'real'", Jamie leaned forward with a tinge of hostility, an undiagnosed symptom. "Everyone is real, I speak to them every week, we go by first names. I get new clients all the time. You're saying that this is a whole nother New York, doesn't it have a whole nother people as well?", he argued. A complication, was Jamie truly not able to tell between his real coleagues and the marionettes of this hollow world? "Wait, who did you carry out? Only the 'real' folk? Whatever that means?", he inquired.
Despite being rational and cooperative, it appears that the world still held some sort of illusion over Jamie, dispelling could have unexpected results. There were some number of people in this world that were caught by the spawning portal that leads here, most of which work at this building, but not all of them, and there was no guarantee they were currently there due to the ruckus at Eagle Eye; Jamie doesn't know all of them, and apparently can't even tell them apart, Liberty, however, boasted to Strange that she did, no less than 50 of them, whether she would cooperate was a different matter.
"How's this gonna work, doc? You got some secret divination technique for 'real' people? Do you flip a coin?"

Strange waved a hand, a little too dismissively perhaps. He had never been one for this kind of diplomacy. As far as he was concerned, there were real people, and whatever dimensional creations that filled this universe. Perhaps selfishly, maybe even arrogantly, only one mattered to him.
"Semantics. The ones from... my New York, and the ones that originated from here. And it's not a case of a coin flip. I know who came from my New York. They're the ones I want to make the choice."
He watched Jamie with a frown, tugging at his goatee. What was this man, anyway? This place... He still had curiosities in mind. It was hard to let go.
"Tell me... you came from my side originally, correct? Who was it that brought you here?"
