CORE INFO
Name: Desmond Gray
Alias(es): Des
Gender: Male
Age: 23
APPEARANCE
Picture:
Physical Traits: At first appearance it is easily seen that Desmond has had his fair share of war or battle. Two distinct scars that run across his face that weren’t properly treated, and had healed poorly. Roughly looking around the age of his mid twenties, possibly younger. His hair is short and black which brightly displays his yellow eyes that often glow in the moonlight. Average height where you wouldn’t pull him out from a crowd of people, though he his thin, he is rather muscularly toned due to his constant drive to keep training his body, staying fit and at the ready for the next battle. His skin is slightly tan, due to the fact he trains often without his shirt or upper clothes on, the sun usually touching his body in the morning. Quite common for him to be displaying a cold and uninterested expression and is often assumed he is alone whereas he doesn’t have any interests to make friends where he resides.
Clothes/Style: Desmond is outfitted with a verity of articles of clothing, but mostly armor that is miss matches for his attire. From plates of shoulder-wear, to leather thigh and shin guards, even heavy cloth around his arms and hands. Most of his armor is a mix matched set of light cotton pants and a bare chested long sleeved shirt that’s tied around the front of his chest. His boots reach up just above his knees and are tied at two opposite parts of his legs. While in most seasons he can be seen wearing a heavy canvas jacket among all of it. It is rare, but Desmond can sometimes be seen wearing a few articles of clothing bearing the insignia of the The Church of Mending.
PERSONALITY
Outer Persona: Quite a very stern and direct persona. Desmond has a very outspoken, cold way about him when he explains what he is trying to say, and never sugar coats anything. Sometimes his short-tempered, crude, and aggressive. His past has dictated his later personality unfortunately. Cocky before every battle, he likes to prove to himself that he is as strong as he believe himself to be. However, despite himself he has experienced many losses in his life, (which shows from the numerous scars that he shows off as a badge.
Inner Persona: Although he lives in a megalopolis of people, he has grown accustom to the business of the comings and goings of life there which Desmond has up until recently called home. Though many people are unaware of his crude nature they can usually be seen leaving him alone, but if an unsuspecting passerby approaches him in need of assistance, he would most probably offer some help. Though he would be more than likely quiet about his deeds, and would feel at least appreciated if to give a little kindness. Rather soft to unfortunate or any underdog that would be pressed to fight in unforgiving situations, Desmond would probably not want to involve himself to fight against anyone who couldn’t defend themselves properly. You would find Desmond near crowds, or at least near ear shot of conversations because he wants to at least know what is going on around him.
Core: Hurting. His past certainly molded him to be how he is, and is angry most of the time because he was dealt a terrible hand of luck. He fights uncertain odds a lot of the time to prove himself, and to others that he his stronger than he appears. Not having family has broken him, and doesn’t want anyone to notice he wants to belong to a family. Desmond is envious of people who still have their love ones, and have someone to return home to, that they are waiting for them. Prideful in this endeavour he is willing to protect those who still have a family, and who have those waiting for them at home. Never does he want anything that happened to him to happen to anyone else.
BACKGROUND
Summary: A very curt, rude, and outspoken on many subjects if something interjects how he views his way of life. After disbanding from the Church of mending he joined the Hunters seeking vengeance towards his families destruction and slaughter. In turn he believes this will offer him solitude and peace instead of the ever growing anger he has towards the monsters outside the walls of the city. Always trying to prove himself the stronger warrior, he sometimes find himself victim of biting off more than he can chew.
History: Some small settlements still reside outside big megalopolis cities, and well fortified landmarks, it isn’t uncommon to find them close by. Desmond lived in such a small settlement, a few miles from the Grand City of Lantern. It consisted of five small families that had thrived there for many generations. At times there were monster attacks that would arise, however some of the elder’s had their own defenses that were somewhat capable of warding off some smaller or moderate Monsters that would come seeking food or destruction. The technology was old, but had been developed from the City of Lantern, and though there were minor mechanical adjustments here and there that would need seasonal tinkering, the weapons were effective enough.
The Gray family had been a linage of mercenaries for many centuries. Blade or gun for hire on the road for many different jobs, they were good at what they did and what they did had been countless assignments. Desmond was one of three brothers, and one sister; Jesse, Brian, and Jennifer. His father had been killed while on assignment when Desmond was very young so he was raised by his mother, and helped raised by his grandfather. Aside from the constant sword work training his grandfather trained him and his siblings, but it wasn’t enough to take down what eventually had been the end of the small settlement the families resided. The Hatto’s, McGalvin’s, Hillard’s and the Silverson’s were all obliterated one evening when a highly danger monster found it’s way to their settlement. Desmond was the only one that was able to survive, barely. The monster was never seen again.
Eventually the Church of Mending had overseen the reports on what had transpired at the settlement, and after caring for Desmond’s severe wounds, they had accepted him into their ways and congregation since he had no place to call home. Though Desmond’s characteristics were not of the norm for such a group, they did what they could to calm his anger, but had been unsuccessful. Eventually, Desmond broke away from the Church of Mending and wanted to follow in his families ways in mercenary work.
