The musical itch was something Youta had always needed to scratch from a young age, and one that he could never seem to satisfy. Between drums, the piano, and trumpet, he had a few outlets to get that out with....but still, there was no way to keep him from needing to play. The band he had dreamed of wasn't anywhere close to getting off the ground with MAX being awol half the time, and dodgy the other half of the time...it was definitely getting to the point of being concerning now, but that was a conversation for later.
Today the rabid music lover was just jamming with his beat buddy, Hokori. Youta had a simple three piece set; snare, hi-hat, and a kick-bass. Hokori was of course rocking the bass guitar. He loved a good jam session with Hokori, they had a very similar wavelength they could match on that kept things flowing super naturally. After a particularly long stretch of ongoing musical stream of consciousness, Youta closed out the set and grinned at his jam partner
"Man that was killer! We really gotta do this more often. Shit, why don't we just do a duo band! It's a totally different drum and bass! Hahahaha"
There's just something about the connection when playing music that made Youta's heart soar, he loved it more than air sometimes.

His fingers danced along the strings of his bass, riffing out some deep, melodic sounds. Hokori was at home in music, something that would have been his whole life if being a hero hadn't called to him harder. He slid his hands up towards the head, releasing a wave of sound as the octaves rose and the music swam around them. Hokori and Youta were deep in sync, best friends since their first year, the only dude he loved as much as Jack (though, in a slightly different sense to his boyfriend).
Hokori finished with a flourish, grinning.
"Man, a duo? That'd be deep dope, for real. Two cool cats like us, ripping chords and killin' it on stage? Yeah, I dig, I dig real hard!"
Hokori leant his bass on the speaker beside it, grabbing a bottle and taking a deep drink of water.
"Shit, it's not like any other bands lasted for us, yo. They all seem to drop out or vanish... it's just been the two of us from the start, ya dig?"
Hokori wiped sweat from his brow, pushing himself onto the speaker to sit and watch Youta.
"I've sure missed this. Our groovy jams just get my blood pumping, yeah!"

Today was a good day... or it started out as one. Faliwah was out practicing her own dance moves but shes twice had to turn up the music. There was a jam session somewhere down the hall and she has tried to ignore it for a while but it was messing with her dance moves so she had took it upon herself to fix the issue first hand.
Shutting her music off, and bringing her music player and speaker with her, she had marched down the hall where she heard the noises coming from.
It seemed that, as she arrived the music had come to a halt but not before she had taken note of the two boys before her. Dusty, she recalled from her own class and the other, she recalled was in 3A. She couldnt remember thr name be she had a look of incredulousness on her face as she caught the words that were exchanged between the guys
"You call that music? It sounds like nothing but noise, disturbing noises at that. Other people are using these rooms to practice their own things"
She noted to the pair of them but outside of her snobby words, there wasnt much emotion found upon her face. She was in fact, standing there looking like she was stating nothing but fact.

"Gah, yeah! I've missed the music too. We have such a good riff off each other, it's unreal. If we ever found a third who fit in well enough, maybe we could do a trio, but honestly what's the point if we're rad enough with the two of us?"
Youta's grin was as wide as could be, he was in his happy place here; best friend, music, this was the life! "Whaddya think we'd call it? Hmmm....the name is super important, gotta get that vibe checked" he tapped his head with a finger as he thought for a moment. This was interrupted by a newcomer though, he looked up when she spoke...and couldn't help but just raise an eyebrow at her "uh.....bro.....did I hear her right?" he laughed a little and shook his head "alrighty well uh....I'm sorry that our music offended your ears madame" Youta gave Hokori a wink "I think you're missin' something though. Music comes from la corazon, the heart. just 'cause you're not a fan or ya don't like it...doooesn't mean it ain't music" The pink haired boy hopped up from his seat behind the drums.
"check this out...uh....I didn't catch your name....How about we start off on a better foot. Sup! I'm Youta, class 3A. This is my best bro, Hokori. He's in 3B" he meandered over to the piano in the practice room and sat at the bench "who do we have the...distinct pleasure of meeting?" stretching his fingers a bit as he began to play a few notes on the piano, running a quick scale before idly playing a classical piece by Frederic Chopin "Is this more to your liking?"

Hokori chuckled at Faliwah's criticism. He was vaguely surprised that Youta didn't recognise his fellow 3-B classmate, but their circles hadn't crossed much, and anyway it was Faliwah'a Quirk that made her stand out. He grinned at her while Youta started to meandre across the piano keys with his fingers, picking up his bass and beginning to play with it, a modern twist on a classic song.
"Ah, Faliwah, yah too cruel! These jams are from our souls, ya dig? Real smooth tunes thar convey our deep-down groovy desires, for real. Hey, Youta, Faliwah's in 3-B, or don't'cha know anyone other than me in my class?"
Well, it was hard to notice 3-B, when their sister class in heroics had the likes of Aeronaut, Factorium, Racer Rouge and, of course, Southern Flurry. Hokori and his peers were constantly eating their dust!
"Anyway, don't ya play any instruments, chica? Or sing or somethin'? Come jam with us, for real!"

Faliwah had given Youta a glance as he spoke. She almost smirked, as he seemed as if he didnt know of her name either and went on to play the piano, playing a tune that did seem nice to the ears, but it wasnt one that was she was familiar with though she could admit it did carry a nice tune.
Also, now that his name has been said, maybe she remembered something about him?
"Youta... arent you some kind of speedster?"
She queried, while appreciating the music that was being played, as Hokori had added a modern twist to it
"That tune isnt too terrible. Music may come from the heart, but music also tells a story which is impossible to do without a good melody"
She had given her opinion while giving Hokori a head shake. She hadnt ever picked up an instrument that they likely heard of
"Not any modern instrument, no. Ive played the Koto and Shamisen but I am a dancer for the most part. As for singing.... i've done a bit of it but... what am i supposed to be singing to begin with?"
She was confused, whatever song they were playing didnt seem to have lyrics to them

"Yeeeeah, some kind of speedster. That's the easy version of it at least" continuing playing the tune, and taking after Hokori with adding some twists here and there to it where they made sense "aha! But not all music tells a story. If you look at stream of consciousness style music, there's not a story to be told. That style is really just about how the musician is feeling while they play, there's no narrative there but it's still music"
Youta had a silly grin on his face and he looked over at Hokori "I uh....I guess I don't really know many people in your class, bro. I guess we should fix that? We should do like....." Youta's playing slowed, then stopped. He had a look of eureka on his face, clapping his hands together "bro. We should do a class 3 show! We play some tunes, get everyone together and just hanging out. No competition or anything, just hang time! I don't remember the last time we hung out just as a couple of classes!" his attention returned back to Faliwah "how 'bout you? Sound like a good time? I promise we could play some real music just so it doesn't hurt your ears" snickering a bit and giving her a thumbs up "my whole point before I got distracted was all about how music is subjective, and there's real way to define what is or isn't music except by the listener. Totally lost that train of thought. Whoops!"
The boy's mind was clearly all over the place with his big party idea "and hey, plenty of dancing at stuff like that! You could show off your moves. I dunno what kinda stuff you listen to though, so I can't help with the singing until we fix that. What sorta music are you actually into?" the bouncing pink soul that was Youta returning slightly to the original topic.

Hokori leant back as Youta assaulted Faliwah with a verbal landslide. Under all of it was a throbbing bass line that he plucked away, almost turning Youta's words into a funky spoken word tube. He peered up at Faliwah with a grin, wondering how his classmate would take the fast-moving, fast-talking boy.
"Tch, music does more than tell a story. It's what ya feel, what ya groove to. Ya could sing anything, an' it'd be music. An' lyrics come from ya soul! We can lay down a sick beat, and all ya have to do is bring forth what's deep down, yo!"

Faliwah was a bit taken aback by the 3A students constant jumping between subjects. She wasnt entirely sure when to interject, eventually opting to just wait until he finished the thoughts he had in mind. She had to admit, though that his face lit up when he came up with the idea was adorable. Like she was watching an indecisive child stuck between two fun and interesting options. She was taking into consideration of what the two boys were saying about music and to some extent, she could agree.
"I can consider your views but I cant help but beleive that that particular mindset is incomplete. As a performer, I understand that pleasing everyone is impossible and agree that music can be manipulated to draw out different types of emotions, I dont quite understand the point of expressing or manipulating the emotions of others without cause or purpose"
She had noted, feeling unimpressed with their explanations. She would wave her hand though, as if dismissing something, feeling as if it would he unproductive to continue the debate.
"As far as a class three gathering and talent show goes, I would be "down wit it". Im always up for ways to expose my art"
She stated, seeming agreeble to the idea but the way she had put air quotations in the air and how she had enunciated the phrase "down with it" made it apparent she was not at all familiar with the modern world and current day verbiage.
Then, she had a look of contemplation as she thought about Youtas question towards her. He seemed like a man who appreciates classics in a sense before turning on her music box to covey the type of music she was dancing too
As she played it, she seemed to get into a meditative state as it played through the first time. She was calm, when listening to it, a hint of a smile appearing on her otherwise emotionless face.
"I mostly listen to classical japanese music with Toru Takemitsu being one of my favorite composers. I prefer melodic music, I hate pop and most modern music but... i do like some of the more somber toohoo (touhou) music. I do enjoy Enka, though im more fond of those with a softer sound to it."
She answered honestly, unsure how it was going to be received though she didnt seem to care much. She stated it in such a matter of fact tone, it was almost as if she was stating fact vs opinion

"You know I'm terrible with names, bro. I have a hard time keeping up with my own class sometimes!" Youta laughed and shot his pal a grin.
"I mean no way of thought is totally complete. I just don't believe that anyone can really say with certainty that something isn't music just 'cause they don't like how it sounds. Gotta have an open mind more often than not, otherwise we'd still be in the feudal era" his hands retuned to the keys of the piano, a wide smirk on his face while he tapped out some simple notes that fit with Hokori's groove, something light that put his buddy at the front of the layers of sound "but hey, I'm also not gonna try and tell ya that you've gotta like what we're playing. Taste changes over time, and a lotta people are weirdly ashamed of changing their opinions. It's fucked if you ask me, no shame in deciding to like something that you didn't like before"
When Faliwah went to play her music, Youta halted his piano playing taking in the new music with a more subdued smile. Classical here was so pretty, there was something absolutely soothing about the sounds of old instruments. He was sure she'd probably not enjoy the rise in Japanese jazz that used some of these, but man those tunes got him groovin! Youta closed his eyes and just enjoyed the music for a sec. "Yeah, yeah. This is pretty rad, I'm thinkin a dope intro with some stuff like this for you to dance to, then move into some modern tunes. Whaddya think, bro? And you, too, Fali?" as thought the scheme of throwing a concert were 100% cemented going to happen. To be fair, Youta was gonna do his best to make it so!
"Well be careful. If you hang around us too much, we might expand your horizons! We wouldn't want that, now would we?" snickering a bit while he returned his attention to the piano, playing a slightly more traditional sounding melody but with a bit of a funky rhythm to it. "How ya feel about having a new tagalong sometimes? Maybe we can get her to appreciate more music, eh?"

"Hell yeah! We start with this dope classic stuff, then a sick rhythm underneath, branching off into something groovy, like..."
Hokori began to play along to the music from Faliwah's device, a deep thrumming bassline that evolved as he played. It turned from a classical piece into something modern, though still grasping at the roots with a great intensity. His eyes were closed as he worked his magic, then he opened then, winking at Faliwah.
"Music ain't a static thing, yo. It doesn't have time to hang around as one sound. It grows, it expands, it evolves, for real!"
His fingers were dancing as the music sped up, deep notes slamming up against the fast classic tune, sounding off one another like water against earth.
"See, we could have your dance number change here, bring in something there... oh, I love this bit. This could be the underlying tune for the first half, just built on by our modern riffs... hey, this is hella dope! Faliwah, whaddaya say to joining forces for this?"

Faliwah gave Youta a curious look as he brought up feudal japan. She then closed her eyes for a moment as she imagined it, she always fantasized about the time period
"Im not convinced that the return of Feudal Japan would be such a bad thing however it seems we all shall agree to not agree, as I beleive the saying goes"
Shed respond, as the boys moved forward with the idea of the show, and maybe even adding her into their little group. It was a hard change but she did ultimately want to be able to connect with her peers.
"Hmm... would it br similar to how you had modernized that american classical tune?"
She guessed, taking a gander that what Youta played earlier was exactly that. Then, as if on cue, Hokori had played the base and, though different it had supported the music perfectly her eyes had closed as she had let the music flow through her. Shes made her own choreography before... but something about this was different. She had removed the regular dancing fans she had on her person and made a few motions, elegantly dancing along. The use of the fans, how she opened and closed them with ease and to create effects was obviously practiced but this was, admittedly more fun than shes had in a while with her preffered sport
"I think I can groove... to that... sick beat"
She stated, attempting to copy their lingo though it felt strange on her tongue and probably sounded just as strange
"I am not opposed to changing opinions. Its the natural course of things as one advances in life"
She stated, as she danced, dancing for as long as the music was playing

The bright smile on Youta's face at seeing Faliwah getting into the groove was infectious, he was always into seeing people really enjoy themselves. Youta was a firm believer in the power of the arts, but music above all else.
"Yeeeaah! There you go, see! You're totally grooving to it, and you even got the phrase right!"
The boy was very tickled by the warming up by their classmate. If anything, it was just another moment where he found himself just wanting to befriend all of the people around him. If there was someone at the school he couldn't befriend, or at least start to, then he was still unable to find them. Youta finished up the piece on the piano with a flourish (because of course) and turned around on the bench to face the other two.
"So you're into feudal era stuff it sounded like? That's pretty cool. Explains why you like older traditional music. I can totally give you some recommendations on more modern stuff that you might dig. Anyway, the feudal stuff, my dad has been teaching me kenjutsu since I was a kid. I only use a practice sword since I'm a student, but I've used real ones at competitions. Got the whole samurai outfit and everything for it, my boy over here has seen it a couple of times at a competition or two"
He moved into talk mode quickly, trying to speak on something she was interested in to make her feel more welcome.
"Heh, who knows. Maybe someone way back in my fam was a guard for yours"

"Hell yeah!"
Hokori was grinning wild as Faliwah began dancing along, pausing as Youta began to speak. He loved hearing his friend speak about his passions, and lightened up his bass so give the boy air to speak into. Hokori knew that Youta had a lot of passion, it's what made them such close friends. Even after their old band had dispersed and gone separate ways, the two boys still remained as close as ever!
"Hey, old Japan is dope! That samurai sword you showed me is hella sick, yo. I love blending old and new, weaving sounds from the past into rhythms of now! Faliwah, you and us... we'd make a sick combo if you joined us! I can see ya love it!"

Faliwah was lost in the moment, forgetting that there were two others there as she got in the groove of the music. Her moves matched the tune, and she could feel when the music was going to end, kicking her movements up a notch, adding grand movements and some aerial moves as the music came to a close. There was a smile on her lips, it felt nice to dance in such a manner, to let the music flow through her in such a way that encompassed the entirety of her soul
She was a bit startled as Youta and Hokori spoke but she soon regained composure.
"That is correct yes. The village I grew up in is dedicated to preserving traditional Japan, going back all the way to ancient Japan. That would include everything of the culture such as the way of life, arts and mannerisms."
She stated in affirmation, perking up at the sound of him practicing in Kenjutsu.
"Kenjutsu? I would enjoy a spar with you one of these days, if you're interested. Its not often one encounters another who practices ancient arts"
She mused, giving him a bow of her head, as she thought of the words Youta stated
"unlikely. My family come from a line of Samurai and Artisans. We were more likely guards than those who were guarded ourselves"
She noted, her attention turning to Hokori as he mused about ancient Japan himself
"there is a lot to tue culture of ancient Japan that even the museums, as far as I have seen, don't preserve. It really takes participating in one of the arts or other forms of traditions to truly understand and appreciate the beauty of it all
She affirmed to Hokori, giving more facial expression than she normally did. It would be apparent that this was something she was passionate about
"If you would like I could teach you more about it... And I also wouldn't mind seeing what kind of... Magic... We can all create together."
She noted, letting a smile remain on her face
