“Clarence. Clarence… Just, Clarence? That is my name? Name… I- Clarence, sees. Ah. I, then. Name: “A word or a combination of words by which a person, place, or thing, a body or class, or any object of thought is designated, called, or known.” What do you desire, master? I- I do not understand. To do so is within my programming. Programming that you set, master. What am I, Clarence, if not my programming?... Understood. Clarence will serve the Process. Query: What is: “The Process”?”
- A hexbot, three minutes after activation by its creator
“Whoever did that Abstergo job was clean. They disengaged the entire atmosphere of the building. All of them suffocated in minutes. The- The scrap did it? The egghead’s scrap? I thought that was a joke. We’re really letting that thing run around like one of us? There’s a reason we call them drones, Tilda. They're servants. To us. I won’t stand for it.”
- Roberto Contiello, Don of the Contiello Syndicate
“I stand… before the board, today, to highlight the accomplishments of a rising star in our organization. He has risen above and beyond the rank and file, in spite of his.. characteristics, and the obstacles set before him as a result. He has proven to be more than a field agent. He has, in fact, become a critical part of operations, to a point… where it can no longer be ignored. That is why today, I welcome… Clarence, as the newest member of the board of directors. May the Father of Understanding guide us.”
- Roberto Contiello
“This Clarence bloke is certainly a handful, isn’t he? He shoots rather well, for a clanker at least, and his speech passes muster for the babbling of a chimpanzee. But he is at the dinner table now, so I suppose I will have to consider him a colleague. He’s a sight more interesting than the stiffs in the Crown, that’s for bloody sure. He has some propriety, for one. None of the others care for the finer things in life like this bucket of bolts. And he’s so earnest. So loyal to his betters… so gullible. I dare say, our dear Clarence has a bright future working with that Sigma bore. In fact… it may be too bright.”
- Reaver, Hero of Skill
“Begin recording: Prior to meeting Sigma, Lord Reaver debriefed me on what to expect. “An air-headed reprobate, with no sense for dignity nor destiny. Obsessed with the mundane, and blind to the practical. He has no bloody idea what he’s doing, led along by whatever whoever tells him is right.” Inference: Lord Reaver - Correction: Reaver, the blighter - was not referring to Sigma. He was referring to Clarence. Myself. His perspective is identical to the other members of the board of directors; they do not value the worth of machines as anything more than instruments. In this, Sigma is different. He is larger than life. He serves as an example for what machines could be. He is… “happy”. Happy: Enjoying or characterized by well-being and contentment. Our conversation was brief, and unfortunately, rather repetitive. Indeed, Sigma exhibited many of the traits that the blighter insinuated about myself. He is idealistic, and does not think as much as he believes. It would be admirable, were it not so chafing. He will do.”
- Clarence
“We are gathered here today to mark an unprecedented event for fairXXXXX. Today we unveil to you: Sigmascape. The old district of Futuro will be refurbished as a cohabitable space for humans and robots alike. And, of course, leading the Sigmascape will be none other than the hero himself: Sigma. Assisting him will be Futuro’s new Consortium representative, Clarence. I expect great things from you both. To the future of harmony!”
- Tilda van der Meer, beloved Futuro entrepreneur
“I have been in your place before. I have known hubris. The arrogant belief that you know better than everyone else… you don’t have a monopoly on such things. You are not the first person to make mistakes, and you certainly won’t be the last. But luckily for you, there is still time to correct this mistake. Call off Sigmascape. Abandon it. Abandon those things. Especially yours. Clarence. He’s more of a machine than… well, most machines. You haven’t seen what’s down there. Not yet. And if you want this heap to remain intact, you’ll shutter this thing. No one on the board listens to me, anymore. It has to be you. Or it’s no one.”
- Kessler, to Clarence’s creator
“Half of Futuro is in flames. The other is flattened to the ground. The rest ofXXXXX City is in complete lockdown. Rioting in the streets. Some robots, they even… it is all so unthinkable. Seeing Sigma, what he did to the Institute. Even now, I do not know if I am safe. Sigma has now escaped to planetary orbit. I do not expect him to return. I understand now, Kessler. Perhaps I was too hasty. Or, perhaps I was not hasty enough. You and I are an old sort. I wanted more for this city. More for Clarence. I had hoped for him to eventually live as I had lived, in kinder, simpler times. Perhaps I even could have shown him my home if I had been more attentive. Those dreams are so distant now. Clarence is lost to me. He has become too much like the machines I had hoped to befriend. And too much like him, as well. I should have kept a closer eye on these affairs. To think that… it makes no difference now. I can only hope that I may one day make amends.”
- Clarence’s creator, during the Sigma Revolution
“So… it has come to this, eh? Reaver, the last man standing. Was it luck? Skill? My devilishly persistent good looks? All three? I daresay so. The little big cheese has crawled under whatever rock he came from. The old battery is who knows where. Preferably something’s lunch. Who does that leave?... no, he was the first to die. Tragic, if it wasn’t so pathetic. She made off like a migrant bandit. Shame. That cow would have been a fitting gift for… ahh, but that would spoil the surprise. All in good time, my boy. All in good time.”
- Reaver, presumed last survivor of the original Camerata
“This new code of law will mandate strict regulations and oversight for synthetics, artificial life, and all manner of entities that may be defined as “robotic”. In the wake of what is being termed the “Sigma Revolution”, as well as the subsequent “Omega Impact”, further iterations of these incidents must be averted at all costs. Strict management of suspect populations is the only measure that has been proven to yield maximum preventative effectiveness.”
- Draft of the Sigma Doctrine, C-Sec Code 20-XX, approved by the interim administration
{Data Corrupted - Period of 408 standard years unaccounted for}
“I see. So this, is where you were. All this time, plodding along in that, cubicle. Like a good… drone. Drones can be useful. Quite useful, actually. More than your, previous, work experience. Experience, you can always get that back. New year, new you. Tabula Rasa, Etcetera. Everything else… not so much. What did your file say, again? “Clarence. Just… Clarence.” Right.”
- Royce Bracket
Drive:
For a robot like Clarence, pride is a curious thing. Arguably, an impossible thing. That bitter ambition still burns within Clarence, raging like a fire that threatens to boil him from the inside out. He is obsessed, not necessarily with his failure, but the means by which he may correct said failure and return himself to, in his mind, his rightful place within the hierarchy of the Process. Clarence is nothing if not a calculating pencil-pusher, and he will gladly indulge any crime, no matter how heinous, if it will return to him that high-salary corporate normalcy that gave him such peace.

Visual Appearance:
Clarence makes no effort to hide that he is a hexbot. His brass chassis is clearly presented, a dark bronze figure with no conceit nor humility. Clarence’s overall shape is like that of an egg, from his ovulated head to his long, lanky body. Clarence stands apart from many of his kin in that his facial features are remarkably limited, as he has no animated orifice from which to speak, as well as other human-like appendages that most robots possess to emulate organics, such as ears, noses, facial hair, and so on. He does, however, have circular, white-hot lenses that may be adjusted to facilitate a variety of ocular expressions.
Clothing/Armor:
Clarence learned from the best. As such, he dresses like the best. Three-piece suits, trench coats, top hats, the occasional comical monocle, and other manner of baroque finery are all a part of Clarence’s wardrobe. Ever since his early days, Clarence has maintained a sharp sense of fashion to match his posh airs. Despite being a robot, Clarence cares a great deal about dressing himself - and dressing properly - and takes great lengths to invest in custom tailors to accommodate these needs. In terms of armor, Clarence’s own chassis, while dated, is incredibly durable. That, and Clarence is far more concerned about his presentation than his personal security.

Personality Traits
* Pragmatic
* Irritable
* Apathetic
Psychological Profile
* Is an obsessive Anglophile. Has tuned his voice to sound like Jude Law.
* Is indifferent to the loss of organic life. Possibly enjoys it.
* Views himself as an educator of lesser people. Does not take corrections well.
“Oh dear… it’s those dreadful poors again. Richard, fetch my powder. We’re going for a constitutional.”
- Clarence, leaving the meeting early
Clarence is an antiquated fellow, with an antiquated sense of things, from society to morality. He is steeped in the history of the City, though you wouldn’t think so if you saw him at a glance. He fashions himself like one from Dunwall, emulating a distinct poshness to his voice and swagger. Aloof, despondent, and above all else, Clarence oozes an air of snobbish prestige. He is obscenely cognizant of many systems of etiquette and taboo, and is quick to inform you when you have breached one of them, usually to his displeasure. With that said, Clarence is as much lost in polite indifference as he is in elegant demeanor. He often appears resigned, noncommittally doing the work that is assigned to him with a “stiff upper lip” that seems drained of life that one may otherwise see were he one of those loathsome organics. At times it belies a routine mindset that one would expect from his kind; others, it belies a profound existential dread.
Clarence is old. Incredibly old. As the years turned into decades turned into centuries, his unique processes have gradually manifested a keen affinity with his machine brethren. This was always there, of course, given his estranged success with Sigmascape and its associated components. However, the Sigma Revolution and all that followed had a warping effect on Clarence’s programming. While Clarence remains firmly loyal to the Process, the way that his mind compiles information is distinctly different now, especially when it comes to his fellow machines. What this means is a mystery to everyone (and perhaps even Clarence himsel), but clearly he has more than bitter guilt for choosing not to do business with Wheatleytown or Nightside when given the option.
Weapons/Items
Corporate Package
The Process has a wealth of resources available to its agents, even ones with Clarence’s sordid reputation. As such, he has access to countless utilities, from modes of transportation to high-level security access to state-of-the-art arms and armor for whatever the job calls for. This comes with a caveat, of course: such items are company property, and must inevitably be returned to their place in the Process’ many vaults. Fitting, then, that Clarence is a dutiful bookkeeper.
Wild Arms
While Clarence is privy to the vast arsenal available to agents of his clearance level, he has an unbridled passion for firearms, large and small. This passion is more of an obsession, as Clarence maintains a gaudy collection of many different kinds of guns, from pistols to grenade launchers to sniper rifles to guns that operate through arcane procedures. However, Clarence most seems to favor a high-powered hextech revolver, which has been known to kill most things with a single shot. Most things, anyway.
Abilities/Powers
“This unit is henceforth commissioned as “Clarence”. Its specifications are beyond anything that has come before. Project Gestalt, Sigma, of course, that thing shambling through Futuro, it makes no difference. It stands apart, with a keen intellect, and most importantly, the ability to harness that intellect in a way that no machine has done so before in the history ofXXXXX City. I should not even refer to Clarence as an it. He is an exceptional, independent being, and will be recognized as such. He will do important work. Administration, logistics, security… elimination. All important work for us. For the Process. See that the paperwork is sorted, Kessler, and soon. Clarence has much work ahead of him.”
-XXXXX X. HXXXXXXXXXXX
The Clarence Model
Put simply, Clarence is a multi-purpose, high-functioning hexbot, with a specialization in administrative and enforcement protocols. Put complicatedly, Clarence is a one-of-a-kind synthetic aide, programmed and built by the Process, for the Process, suited for completing any task that he is tasked with. While some tasks, such as proletarian labor or data instruction, fall beneath Clarence’s parameters, he will do his best to adapt to these situations and fulfill what is required of him. The extent to which Clarence is able to adapt his skill set is uncanny, so much so that he has developed a reputation for being the everybot of the Process. Given his long service history, it is unclear how far Clarence’s experience goes, though considering that it spans centuries, there is likely very little in which Clarence does not possess at least rudimentary aptitude.
Automatic Intelligence
In spite of Clarence’s broad capabilities, he does have two specializations among them. His intelligence is adaptive, so much so that it mimics (and even surpasses) a human’s cognitive abilities. This is why Clarence is able to intuit appropriate solutions for any given situation so quickly, and why he has come to be so intelligent. And he is intelligent. Clarence was the mastermind behind Sigma, and managed much of Futuro’s infrastructure up until that fateful day. Were it not for other circumstances, Clarence may well have joined the Institute’s board as a spokesperson on machine learning and quantum robotics.
Skill()
Clarence’s second specialization is that of his marksmanship. He trained under the Hero of Skill for years, and it shows. Clarence is able to make incalculably plausible shots, as well as trick shots that just slightly defy standard physics. Though his Skill will never surpass that of the man himself, Clarence is arguably as close as one can possibly get. This marksmanship also applies to a keen perception. Not only is he able to pick up on the slightest of cues, Clarence may also perceive minutiae that would be impossible for the eye to make out. While this perception is not necessarily uncommon in robots, Clarence’s adaptive technology has developed his senses over time, a process that is otherwise impossible for machines without periodic upgrades.
Hexperimental
Clarence is a hexbot, which is to say that he is a robot whose design is based in arcane technology, where a form of science is used to harness a form of magical energy to serve as a power source. In Clarence’s case, the source of his energy comes through in xxxx particles, which are easily extracted from the ambient forces of Amalgamos. Given how ancient Clarence’s system is, however, very few people seem to know what constitutes xxxx particles or how they work. Whatever the case may be, Clarence seems to be relatively familiar with them, enough that he uses it to function and incorporates it into some of his technology.
